A Hat in Time is a cute-as-heck 3D platformer featuring a little girl who stitches hats for wicked powers.
A little girl and her spaceship
In A Hat in Time you play as a tiny space-travelling girl with a big tophat. Her adventure is halted when all her fuel, the Time Pieces, is lost and scattered across a nearby planet. Hat Kid must now jump, fight and stitch new hats to make her way into every nook and cranny of this new world in order to restore her fuel and resume her journey. On her way, she'll bump into the menacing Mafia of Cooks, the goofy birds of Dead Bird Studio, the spooky shadows of Subcon Forest, and more!Murder on a train! Parades! Trespassing in a movie studio?
Every mission in A Hat in Time is unique! At one moment you'll be solving the Murder on the Owl Express by finding clues and interrogating the locals, the next moment you'll be the band marshal in The Big Parade, or sneaking through the bird-run Dead Bird Studio!
Small child, giant worlds
Jump freely around in 5 massive worlds with new adventures to discover around every corner! Just like any child, Hat Kid loves to climb and explore, no mountain is too big for her sense of adventure. She can do multiple jump moves, as well as climb walls, and swing over gaps!Cute hats, magical yarn and snappy badges
By finding and collecting rare magical yarn, Hat Kid can stitch new cute hats with a variety of abilities, including a witch hat that allows her to cook explosive concoctions, and a wooden ghost mask that allows her to peek into other dimensions. Hats can become even more powerful, by attaching badges that are found, sold and traded by the locals!Community-funded, community-focused
A Hat in Time was successfully funded on Kickstarter, reaching nearly 10 times its goal! In order to celebrate our community, A Hat in Time is releasing with full modding and Steam Workshop support, an in-game screenshot mode, and more!Поддерживаемые языки: english, german, korean, french, simplified chinese, traditional chinese, italian, japanese, portuguese - portugal, portuguese - brazil, spanish - latin america

one of my favorite platfomers, its story is wholesome and fun.
cute silly game, i recommend. mods on top of the game add extra fun!
i LOVED this game. probably in my top 3 favorite games of all time. the storyline is so interesting, the game is extremely replayable, the characters are all unique and fascinating in their own way and the game is overall a 10/10. i have spent many years with this game and i can say it's a masterpiece.
Hat Kid is a menace to society and I love being a menace
So yeah I get that Hat Kid is actually the one who brings together all the main antagonists in the end and makes friends, but if you really think about it it’s just funny to say she’s a menace. Pollution and giving corrupt people power? Unacceptable ;)

A Hat in Time is a game that kind of reminds me of a mix between the PS One game Donald Duck: Going Quackers and Super Mario 3D World. This game is definitely best played with a controller, but still very playable with keyboard. I really like the concept of the hats giving you different abilities. Most of the time, the game feels very responsive. The only complaint I really have is that the game freaks out when your controller is plugged in or if you try to tab out (game crashed on multiple occasions when I tabbed out to a different application).

Overall, it’s a great game. I really enjoyed my time with it. Collected all the time pieces, basically did everything there is available in the base game apart from finishing 30 steam workshop levels. I’m definitely interested in playing the Nyakuza Metro and Seal the Deal DLCs at some point. The story is solid, the world feels big and is fun to explore, it just holds up very well overall. Definitely pick this up on a discount!
getting all of the achievements in this game was almost as difficult as Hollow Knight and i'm not joking. 10/10.
Cute as heck! I have payed for this game on XBOX and PS5. But I had an even better experience with steam! It has so much more content! I really enjoy the steam version!
Very good platformer. It reminds me a LOT of Mario Galaxy with a crude sense of humor. its great for people of all ages
What a good game! i've been having a blast with this one. though i'll admit i got a bit stuck on Chapter 4 (purely because of my fault, and I'm such an idiot)
A Hat in Time is a wholesome adorable 3D Platformer that is worth your time, the reason is because how enjoyable and fluid the gameplay is and adding the great level design this game has to offer, i would not recommend buying it at full price, but if you are 3D Platformer lover or want something like this, you should.
And the Soundtracks is also amazing and enjoying to hear. they're fun, groovy and sometime fit the level you're currently playing on
I haven't played the DLC's yet but they do look interesting and fun
my rating 8/10.
yes but no
overall good game but in certain sections 100% focused on platforming (timing and not missing jumps) can be fucking infuriating just quit the game and do something else soooo ehhhhhhhhkkkkkk
more so fun when it's not ultra nightmare level platforming
more fun when the boss isn't platforming ): then becomes from a chill game to a stupid stressful game
great game, online mode lets you meet a lot of friends, camera is a bit buggy but that's okay, great price for all the content you get. 5 stars.
Definetly one of the best platformers to get on steam, highly recommended. My fav 3d platformer was probably mario odyssey and i think i might like this more. runs great on deck except when i installed the dlc or something which lowered the framerate conisderably :(
i got this game around the time when it first acme out, and i love it. The aesthetic/designs are so cute and fun, the music is amazing, and the gameplay is phenomenal. I play with an xbox controller which works great, but i have no idea how well it plays with other inputs. The base game rocks and the dlc are also very fun, especially considering how cheap it all is. 10/10 would recommend.
A child gets robbed by a mobster and her first thought is to overthrow the mafia, help two birds take over Hollywood, sell your soul just to legally trespass, restart the black plague and fight another child at the daycare, 10/10 game would definitely sell my soul to play this for the first time again.
Peak gaming experience. I have never liked the platformer genre as I felt it wasn't for me with two of my left hands. But here I am with 200 hours in the game and I can't stop coming back to it to play the newest mods or to replay my favourite ones.
Goat bless Gears for Breakfast.
A very fun and cute game where you beat up birds and explore interesting worlds (with a healthy amount of humor).
If this game was a person, I'd give them backshots so DIABOLICAL, I'll create an earthquake so destructive the planet will fucking explode. TEN OUT OF TEN.
A Hat in Time is pure whimsical joy! Every world bursts with charm, the movement feels amazing, and the cozy vibes are top-tier. Whether you’re exploring quirky landscapes or just chilling in your spaceship, it’s a delightful adventure from start to finish. Highly recommended for a cozy platforming escape! 🐨
This game was a blast, really fun and fluid platformer with great level design! Not too long either, with a reasonable number of collectables. If you like 3D Mario games, this is definitely worth a shot.
I LOVE this game, its so cute! Also, it's a great 3D platformer, even after all these years.
One pro : Amusing dialogues and jokes.
One con: Random skill checking challenges they may break you(if you're caught off guard)

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!
You did it! You saw this review and thought "Why is this random steam user calling me a fool?" Well, to be honest, I don't know. I just wanted to reference this game in this positive review, and I think this game is...
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!
Anyways, onto the actual review.
The graphics aren't absolutely, down to the molecule realistic, which I like for this game. It makes it run easier on lower end devices, and I don't think this game would work with a high-fidelity style.
The movement is fun. That's all I have to say about that.
The level design is excellent with some anomalies to that (looking at you subcon well enterance)
The character design... oh boy where do I even start? I mean, first of all, there's the mafia, which is a serious topic usually, but the developers made me laugh with the some things that the mafia said in this game. The Conductor and DJ Grooves are also rather unique characters. I'll let you see why.
Overall, I'd give it a 9.9999/10.
An amazingly cute game with simple yet engaging mechanics, long may Hat Kid reign over space.
A hat in Time is a super 3D platformer with tons of collectables to find. It has a super cute and funny artstyle, a very good soundtrack, a funny story with funny characters, nice designed levels, nice movement and everything a 3D platformer needs. And there is also a very difficult challenge mode after the main game. If you love 3D platformer this game is a truly must play for you.
Seriously one of the best Indie 3D Platformers out there, there are equal parts style as substance and they're overflowing. The characters are so endearing and memorable, it takes you back to your childhood as you go on adventures with your new friends across a colorful variety of worlds, all the while the soundtrack lifts you up into a wondrous dreamscape of joy.
Throughout the years I have played many games and sunk plenty of hours into them but despite some having more of my life than I have spent enjoying holidays or that I am not really into platformers as I am not really good at them. But, I loved this game when I first played it and later enjoyed a co-op with my friend to run through the story. There isn't much to say except that I love this game, I hope you did too.
The visual colors is what strikes me.
Yes, This game is indeed cute.
This game is very very fun and good. Controls are extremely satisfying, the levels are pretty and well thought out, the art style is amazing, the music and the sound effects are great and there is a ton of content to do, so you can get a lot out of this game.
But Jesus Christ almighty, the story sucks hard and some characters are unbearable.
This game made me feel happy playing it. Online was very fun, game made me laugh out loud several times even all these years later.
The platforming is fun and the rest is just the right amount of deranged.
If you've played Mario Odyssey, then buy the game. If not, then still buy the game. Really good.
Going into this game blind was one of the best and most fun decisions I made back then and if you like exploration and platformers you should give it a go.
Feels like a modern take on Mario 64/Sunshine.
The soundtrack is one of the most fun ones I listened to in a long time.
tldr:
This game's REALLY fun, DLC included. Workshop support adds even more fun.
This game's basically the best game for those who crave a well-polished and fun collectathon experience akin to those of the N64 era. The characters in this game are fun, the difficulty is beginner friendly and isn't all too hard (except for one act within the Seal the Deal DLC...) so it's a smooth ride to the finish, the movement is easy to get a hold of while the hats add depth to the game, and the levels are well designed and have quite a lot of variety. Go check it out yourself. Only issue I really have is that the game can be pretty laggy in the first mission due to the firework particles I think and the first major boss fight's sandbag particles are also quite laggy, but the rest of the game runs very smoothly. This game also has workshop support, and for what it's worth it does a lot with it. You can play new levels, add more cosmetics, music, yada yada. There's a lot to go through and if you like how this game plays i'd recommend trying them out.
One hell of a game, very fun and the story is cute, I bought a bundle with some DLCs and did not regret it, please do buy it when its on a discount.
The game is great fun only problem is I have a glitched time peace that no matter what I do I can't it. The mods are awesome even the cosmetic ones.
Best platformer game ever, Conductor best character
A very solid §d Platformer!
The controls feel good, the levels are not only thematically but also mechanically unique and the game looks really nice as well.
Really fun and super cute 3D platformer, I love this game sooo much
TLDR -
A Hat In Time is a PHENOMENAL platformer that has a timeless design to it, and still plays exceptionally well to this day. The controls are tight, the music is great, the levels are really cool, and the characters are memorable. This game is absolutely deserving of its overwhelmingly positive rating. If you love platformers, get this game. It’s so worth it.
Pros -
Even though this game absolutely violates the 1$ per hour of enjoyment rule for most casual players, I say that it’s worth ignoring that rule for this game. It’s exceptionally made.
SUPER tight character controls, you’ll never feel like you aren’t in control of your character.
The graphics are beautiful in their own toony way. Basically timeless design.
Wildly good character design, a lot of these characters are SUPER memorable.
The level design is incredibly well done; the only one that lacks compared to the others for me is the forest.
This game is designed with skilled platforming in mind, this game can be a challenge.
Mids -
Minor graphical bugs - you really have to look to find them.
The forest feels a bit empty, but something tells me that may have been intentional.
There are some cosmetics, but they are entirely randomized, so good luck getting what you want.
Cons -
I really haven’t thought of any… This game is really, REALLY well done, and still runs well on modern hardware.
Foreword
In 2007, a turning point occurred, when projects that laid the foundation for the modern genres, technologies and business models of today, as well as games with parkour and open world elements, began to be released. Of course, 3D platformers that stuck to the old formula from the days of fifth-generation console games failed to take root in the wondrous new world. As a result, it was easier for future indie developers to go into 2D-platformers because of the cheapness of development, as well as the nostalgic formula of projects from the NES, SNES and Mega Drive days. In the following years, if games in the 3D-platformer genre were released, they were projects of already known at that time franchises from major publishers such as Ratchet & Clank, Mario or Sonic. After a lull of almost a decade, 3D platformers experienced a well-publicized revival in 2017. Projects like Yooka-Laylee, Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, Super Mario Odyssey and finally a project that came out of Kickstarter after 5 years of development, A Hat in Time. This is what we're going to talk about now.
Story
In the story we find ourselves on a spaceship, on which a girl named Hat Kid is flying. The main fuel source of the ship is hourglass-shaped "Time Pieces", thanks to which the protagonist flies to her home through space. On her way through Mafia City, she is approached by a mobster collecting customs duties and damages her spaceship while trying to get in. As a result, the “Time Pieces” that the ship flies on end up scattered all over the planet. Hat Kid tries to save time from the anomalies, which she does by collecting the “Time Pieces” before they can be captured by the game's antagonist Mustache Girl and enslave the world. Hat Kid decides to travel to various colorful and outlandish worlds in order to get the time pieces back and stop Mustache Girl from taking over the world.
Gameplay
The gameplay of “A Hat in Time” is reminiscent of the platformers Super Mario 64, Banjo-Kazooie and Psychonauts. The main focus of the game lies on jumping, collecting items and solving puzzles along the way. The player is given the freedom to choose the order in which to progress through levels and complete tasks, which adds an element of free exploration and gameplay flexibility to the game. One of the most interesting aspects of “A Hat in Time” is the variety of a wide variety of sparkling and colorful levels. They represent worlds with unique themes, ranging from a Town completely populated by mobs, a movie studio of owls and penguins to a creepy house with a ghost monster inside. Each level is filled with details and secrets, and riddles and challenges await at every turn. Hat Kid also engages in boss battles where she needs to use her skills to win. There are many different hats in the game, giving skills to complete levels: dealing damage, walking on invisible objects, speeding up, etc.
Visual design
The graphics of the game, even in this day and age, looks just great. It is, of course, about the art style. It combines a vintage atmosphere with colorful and vibrant character designs, from the protagonist, to the usual NPCs along the way. The visual effects and painterly art design bring the environment to life and add to the game's own charm. Each level in the game is a real work of art. From lively and colorful city streets to mystical and mysterious castles, the game immerses the player in a variety of locations with unique designs. The combination of vibrant colors, detailed textures and colorful effects create a visual feast for the eyes. Special attention is paid to character design. Each has their own unique appearance that reflects their character and role in the game's story. From the cute and funny Hat Kid to the eccentric and bizarre villains. The characters of A Hat in Time make the player truly fall in love with them. The visuals of the game also capture different eras and styles. From retro gameplay to enchanting fantasy worlds, each level immerses the player in a new atmosphere and amazing visual experience. The details in the environments tell their own stories, the exploration of which becomes a real pleasure. Equally important is the animation in the game. Characters move smoothly and vividly, every attack, jump and movement is a real spectacle for the eyes. The feeling of presence and involvement is enhanced by the high-quality animation.
Music
The game's soundtrack includes over 50 tracks written by composer Pascal Michael Stiefel, also known as “Pascal's Triangle”. Each track combines a unique style and atmosphere, bringing each world of the game to life. The music in “A Hat in Time” echoes a variety of genres and styles. It can be bright, energetic and rousing in one level and then become gentle, melodic and dreamy in the next. From jazz and rock and roll to classic artificial compositions, each track creates a unique mood. The album features some iconic tracks that have become fan favorites. For example, “Your Contract Has Expired”, characterized by its recklessness and spontaneity, or “Bon Voyage!”, enveloping the listener in the atmosphere of a relaxing cruise trip.
Other aspects
If we touch on the Steam-version, then here is given a large workshop of mods. A huge number of maps, mods, game modes. A very nice bonus for those who are not enough original content and want to entertain themselves even more. Alas, here we couldn't do without a spoonful of tartness in the honey barrel. Despite the fact that the game runs on Unreal Engine 3, its optimization leaves much to be desired. The game manages to load my PC as if it was trying to run Cyberpunk 2077 on ultra max settings. The second aspect concerns the Seal the Deal DLC. I understand that Death Wish mode tries to bring variety, to make the levels unfamiliar to what they were in the original, but here when playing through it, I got the impression that the developers didn't test these levels at all. That is, they didn't think about how the players playing as Hat Kid would go through complicated versions of old levels without using mods in Steam Workshop.
Conclusion
A Hat in Time is a true work of art in the world of video games. One of the best 3D platformers of our time. The combination of unique visual style and addictive gameplay makes this game a must-have for all lovers of adventure and visual delight.
Very fun and silly, i just wish online multiplayer stuff was on console(and also the vannesa dlc) i had to buy steam version in order to play.
A very good game for hardness and just modding is easy in a hat in time.
Cute and decently tough. Snatcher really needs to up his game if he wants me to give up. Also, where can i get his book? I require it for the day i got kids of my own.
Absolutely cute as peck and well worth the money. Fun story, endearing characters, and great gameplay! Highly recommend to any platformer fans
I'd already played the console version, but I had to buy it again on PC, that's how great this game is!
This game is a joy to play, the controls are tight, and the gameplay only gets better as you unlock new hats and abilities. Seriously, this game is one of the most fun platformers I've ever played.
My only complaint is the camera, which can be a little annoying sometimes.
The game is quite short, I did mostly everything from the main game and the two DLCs in about 16 hours. On the other hand, every single hour was so much fun.
9/10, great game!
Ive had this game for many years now and I have restarted the game a lot but never completed it and just finally finished 100% completing it. This is one of the best games that I have ever played and im so glad that I came back to play it again.
Fun experience especially for people who enjoy 3D platformers. The bosses are cool and soundtrack is very impressive.
Such a good game. Really good controls, great music 10/10
a truly great game allows to you understand the antagonist is probably more in the right than the player, but still fuel an urge to kick the shit out of that kid
One of the best games I have ever played! Definitely recommend playing for people that like to play Kirby games, etc.
One of the best platforming games i have played in my life. The style is cute but also varied, the platforming is unique and addictive. Most importantly the characters made me laugh, cry and sometimes scared wink wink. Also i forgot to mention this game allows you to make mods of levels, costumes, characters and more so it's literally never ending. Overall i loved it and i believe you will to.
