I AM the FROG 🐸
This game is good fun, absolutely worth the price
frog hops
Frog Hop was a cool looking platformer that I picked up years ago way back when I first started collecting Steam games. It's great for fans of the platformer genre. Has three difficulty levels and plenty of ways to keep all types of gamers entertained, from casual to hardcore.
It's like minecraft... but is a platformer
I bought Frog Hop just because I like frogs, but it's a cute game. It might look simplistic, and it mostly is, but the dev did put attention to detail in everything. But looking past the simplistic art style, it's definitely not one of those games which were quickly thrown together, turning out buggy and still trying to make a quick buck out of it. It's stable and of good quality. An even though the game has been out for multiple years already, the dev is still updating the game from time to time. Sometimes with minor content/features, sometimes just a few fixes, but the long-lasting support is a good thing.
Often on sale for less than 1$ as well, so you have almost nothing to lose if you buy it during a sale.
This is a great platformer game with a very nice aesthetic and really cool game play. I think this a very underappreciated game and I highly suggest this.
you're a frog and you hop
Play this game. Honestly unlike any game i've played. Unique gameplay mechanics, the boss fights are clever and fresh, plenty of content if you're willing to go the extra mile and get all the hidden gems. I love this game to death.
Despite it's simple art style, this game has some nice mechanics and items. It's a good filler.
I like frogs 🐸
only wanted to tell this
if i can say one more, i will thank to you that who created this game
and make the main character as a frog
I like frogs 🐸
What a charming little game. Perfect for easter time. The most adorable (over the sweet hero sprite) is the awesome music playing throughout the game. This whole product is a one man job, and you can feel it in every bit. Everything it may be lacking in the graphics department when it comes to level tiles it surely makes up in the overall level design.
While it may only hardly be worth the five bucks they're asking for regular price, you should absolutely get this when on sale or in a bundle if you (like me) have a soft spot for mario like retro jump'n'runs as Frog Hop for sure is one of the better ones out there.
lovely made, fun little platformer. Lots of unlockable gimmicks and stuff. Recommended!
Hippoty Hop!
Frog Hop is simply a great platformer. It is accessible for newcomers and hardcore mode provides a challenge for even the most veteran of gamers.
The low-res art might throw some people off, but it is just an artistic decision, and the retro style goes well with this game. Nothing about this game is "low-effort". Level design is great, with a number of hidden rooms and secret paths for the completionist to uncover. Music is catchy and fits the theme perfectly. Story is not needlessly complex and is conveyed beautifully without need for dialogue. Design-wise, Frog Hop is polished all the way around.
Control in Frog Hop just feels right. It is simple without being dull. At first, the slow ground movement may feel much slower-paced than what most platformers offer. However, you soon will find nodes that you can attach to and swing off of which dramatically changes how you traverse maps. (As well as bouncing off enemies, which can be chained together in various places.)
Charms add some nice variety to play-style, while being completely optional which I think is a nice touch. There are a few that feel dramatically more useful than others, but they are mostly just there for fun and none of them make you game-breakingly overpowered. Which charm you want to use is going to depend on the type of play you enjoy and to some degree the particular level, if you are having trouble with a specific area. I think this is a fantastic addition because it allows the player to take a game aspect they dislike and make it more bearable - every game needs options like this.
Honestly, there's not much to dislike. Additional content is always welcome, but in playing through the game I felt like the length was perfect for what it is. It kept me interested all the way through, and by the time I finished the final boss I felt satisfied with the variety that I experienced throughout the game. I was also willing to go back through and collect all the gems without feeling like it was a grind.
There is plenty to appreciate about Frog Hop, so if you give it a try, I'm pretty sure you won't regret it. $5 is a totally fair price for a solid platformer that makes an identity for itself.
A frog trying to do their best. Honestly I found this game charming as heck.
Such a great game, and after this most reccent update which added alot more achievements as well as tweaks to the charms characteristics. There are many levels and mechancis used throughout those levels and with the huge selection of gameplay changing charms to choose from, you can completely customize your play-style. Give it a try, you won't regret it. This game oozes charm and there is no dought this was made with love :)
Frog Hop is a great platformer where you hop around as a frog. While the premise (you're a frog and your frog friend goes missing) isn't something super new or extraordinary, the gameplay and level design are great! Let's go into some possitive/negative, eh?
+Movement is fun! Jumping around, bouncing on enemies, and swinging from floating orb nodes all feel polished and fun. I should also mention that the controls are responsive and tight.
+Level design is tight. The levels feel coheasive, giving the player plenty of risk>reward as well as short cuts, secrets, and spots that exist just for fun.
+Most mechanics show themselves through gameplay. Enemy paterns are set up fairly easily. Boss paterns are telegraphed, but still interesting and varied. Bug pals (essentially upgrades) are placed in ways that force you to notice what they do without telling you.
+HUD options that are great for speedrunning. I am an avid speedrunner (just look at my time in You Have To Win The Game), and having HUD options to show time, button inputs, AND player velocity is outstanding. These options are turned off by default, but can easily be turned on in the options menu.
~Story is take or leave. Aimed at a pretty young audience.
~In menus, jump is back out and attack is select. For me, this meant A was back out and B was select. Reminds me of those old RPGs on the PS1. This is a small issue, thus it not being a negative.
-Some mechanics are not well telegraphed. The bug pal abilities can be hard to notice if you miss their first introduction. Some enemies seem impossible to kill when they do in fact have a weakness. Some blocks look deadly even though they are not. Some blocks look safe even though they are not.
-The difficulty ramp near the end of the game is wildly steep.
Final verdict: This is still a great game, and I would highly recommend it to anyone for the full $5 price. If you are a speedrunner of platformers, this is a must have.
Smooth gameplay, great level design and fun swinging and platforming mechanics, especially in the later levels.
