Oh yeah, this one was MUCH better than the first!
Enemies on last levels were a little tanky, but otherwise, pretty fun game.
It's a boomer shooter. Kind of a D rated Wolfenstein/doom with Nazis, monsters/Aliens and some tribal looking dudes. Gameplay is decent. You'll get around 8+ hours out of it if you need something to play for cheap
This game is really awesome
the controls, gameplay, the sounds, surroundings, graphics, its all like it puts you in front of a pentium 3 to play a classic FPS game, But with a more modern touch. good nostalgic experience
if you love old 3D fps games you will really like this!
Astonishing ! with everything. After complete the first one this one is hell lot of better !
Oleg made an amazing lvl from 3rd one up to finish I mean I didn't like that one before final 2 lvls but I won't spoilers here so Im not gonna tell you what it is.
An amazing combat. Better firing weapons better enemies, locations bro this game is fcking incredible.
This is insane what one human can do. Im glad that I have had giving this one's a chance.
Now u can clearly see where they are spawning. The music is awesome for metalheads and normal human beings. From beggining I was like naaah Im gonna smoke this game quickly then I was starting searching for secrets then after 2nd lvl I was like hmmmm much better game. But the 3rd one after 10 min made me go like fck yeah and then 4th and 5th aaahhhhh yeeeeah ! <3
Thank you Oleg for this and pls make the 3rd one even fcking better ! <3 Love you
It is almost a perfect game
My rate: 9/10
Still has some of the same problems as the first game (a bit cheap looking in menu presentation, mixamo animations) but overall a noticeable improvement. The movement is far better here with the double jumping. Still fun gibbing enemies. The bosses are more creative. I think the guns might be better in the first game but the new ones are pretty good still and the fact you can change the way they fire with the new upgrade system is neat.
Was a pretty fun time for a low entry price.
A solid little game. Decent follow up to Putrefaction 1. Decent levels, at the end I would say it goes from decent to quite good Guns are satisfying, and there are cool customization options for them as well. Unique atmosphere, your weapons range from an MP40 to a futuristic energy gun, dynamite, a shotgun and grenade launcher. I dont think there is much to complain about on this game, other than the game being a bit too easy and I also wish it was a bit longer too. It is a strange mix of all sorts of things that come together to create a very unique game. A few bugs, but very rarely something I noticed. I also wish there was a different way of the saving the game, but given the length of the game it is not a big issue.
I dont think the survival mode is meant to be taken too seriously. More of a way to test out all the unlocks for the guns and experiment a bit.
Huge improvement from the first game, with a bit of a Duke Nukem vibe.
defently a really neat game a huge improvement over the first one with a more deep story and gameplay it was awesome experience i highly recommend get all the putrefaction games
very much worth it, especially on sale!!!
fun gun play. lots of detail in the environment. good movement.
That trailer song can sell a broken clock to a bus driver, let alone a simple but functional 'one-man army' [to accompany the spirit of one-man game development] FPS action.
(Though I hate how often the аss-kicking trailer music is not included into the game itself)
This one felt too janky for me. It seems like a cheap knock-off to me. Way too many spots to get stuck on and obnoxious bugs like falling through the map. It could have been something awesome but as it is I just feel like it's an alpha build or something like that. :-(
combined with serious sam and doom series
why this game is run on 30 at all ?
coz it is not optimized
This game is very good game for an FPS fan. It is has good graphics and really like the overlook of the game. I would 4 out of 5 stars if it was a movie. The only way to make this game better to me is to add some RPG elements to it since my Favorite games are FPS/RPG hybrids like Borderlands. You can not have it all for only five dollars, so RPG elements are probably a bridge to far. Overall, a good game for the price.
Putrefaction 2: Void Walker
fast game with modern day graphics with easy controls that moves from location A to B to C and so on,
good amount of action and special effects,
good game.
Personal Suggested Purchase Price: $0.49 Or Less During Sale
I finished the first one, but the second is just disgusting.
The first few levels are okay, but the more they progress the more nonesense that comes into play.
By the end of the game, you are fighting bulletsponges with ever depleting ammunition.
Instead of making me feel strong and powerful, this game gave me anxiety attacks every time I hear the battle theme. Why you ask?
Here is a direct exceprt from Oleg's mentai process:
"I just made the player fight in a giant arena against a lot of enemies, what should I do next? I should make him fight more of the same bulletsponges. After that... I will make him fight more of them. Afterwards, I will make him fight flying enemies, while jumping through tiny platforms, above a pit that instakills the player. Also, I should not give him any ammo in between these two arenas. (That is where I died a series of times, eventually remained alive only to run out of bullets, because I had already fought a giant arena of enemies and there was no replenishment of ammunition. Decided to delete the game.). Yeah, I am a great level designer... Also, I should make the final weapon as effective as peeing against the wind."
tl;dr
Cons:
- Bulletsponge enemies.
- Horrible, repetative arena design.
- Hitscanning attack which takes 1/2 of your entire health, delivered from a guy who barely tickles from your bullets.
- The final weapon of the game is ridiculously weak and borderline useless.
- Will give you PTSD
Pros:
- Oleg is a pretty cool guy and he delivers a lot of support for his later titles, but I have to say that FPS games are really not his strong point.
- You may chuckle at some of the jokes.
- Disembodied cosmic skull talks to you in a thick Russian accent.
- The first few levels are genuinely balanced and interesting, but after the Nazis everything goes to hell. I am almost sure he did it just to artificially prolong the length of the game.
- You get to hear me bit*h about how much I hate this game.
Here's a quick and dirty review.
The game does have it's issues - feel free to look at the pictures I uploaded. I managed to jump out of the map on more than one occasion. Many of the inside levels are so dark you can't see much at all, and I even managed to fall through a solid floor several times (deliberately in the end) to the platform below. You can also see between meshes and a lot of the internal levels are brown with brown enemies. Meaning those people, like me, who are colour blind will struggle with parts of the game.
Some of the English spoken dialog from the alien skull is grammatically incorrect or just plain wrong, but it's easy enough to look past.
Aside from that, it's a reasonable game. It claims to be an old school shooter, and in that respect, I'd have to agree. Where the levels are bright, the game play is mostly enjoyable.
Pick it up on special during a sale. It's worth a play through once.
A good, mindless FPS that I heartily recommend. It's in the style of Serious Sam/Painkiller with a bit of Doom mixed in.
Takes about 4-5 hours gameplay on hard (there are 4 difficulty levels - easy, medium, hard and extreme). That difficulty is very well balanced - not too difficult but definitely enough challenge so you get that feeling of catharsis upon victory. I had the toughest time on a couple of bosses which is what you want. The enemy waves were by and large not too overwhelming, and you aren't forced to fight in tiny enclosed spaces too often so keeping nimble on your feet and playing cautiously will see you through most fights. And you can increase a stat that makes fallen enemies drop more health and ammo which helps as you aren't overloaded with ammo in general, which is a nice change. The one issue I would level at the game is it wasn't very clear when you had "leveled up" and gained a new stat point, so just be sure to periodically check as when you allocate them those bonuses come in very handy, particularly the extra speed and health and the aforementioned increased drop rate.
As for the weapons, most of them were fairly fun to use, although there isn't a huge selection. But the game also lets you customise the weapons with your own choice of secondary attack which is a very nice addition. Plus the relatively low number of weapons means you are more likely to swap them out more often and every weapon has a use in one situation or another, no matter how far you progress in the game.
Story is suitably inane, and the dialogue is predictably cheese, but this isn't what you play these games for! Though the story does give a good excuse to bring variety to the worlds you visit. Another world or two wouldn't have gone amiss!
Enemies are also varied quite a bit throughout, and the game does a good job of mixing the level design up so some of their strengths get emphasised and other times you can exploit the terrain and rain death upon melee only enemies.
So, all in all a good game, I'm looking forward to trying the standalone expansion.
Rating: bad (4/10)
Introduction
Putrefaction 2: Void Walker is a first person shooter in an post-apocalyptic mystical world setting, similar to Doom or Quake. It contains a lot of shooting simple AI, upgrading weapons and jumping for puzzles or progress.
Gameplay & Story: 5/10
The story continues the first part of the series Putrefaction - after killing the boss in the first part you get teleported by a strange being into a new world where you have to chase after some special power that this being wants to possess. Besides running, shooting and jumping you wont have much to do in this game. The dialogs between the main character and the "skull" inside his head are supposed to be funny, but they reminded me so much of Duke Nukem and Serious Sam, where it was fun for the first time but gets old too quick. Some secrets were hidden really well and I had to use a guide to find them to not spend hours just searching for a secret for finishing an achievement. It is possible to upgrade some of your character stats and weapons by gathering energy from fallen enemies or finding secret spots. The weapons can gain special abilities like setting enemies on fire or stunning them, which gives little RPG feeling to this First Person shooter.
Combat & Challenge : 3/10
Sadly the combat was absolutely boring, since the AI of the enemies is one of the worst I've seen in 20 years of gaming. They basically run straight at you shooting, if you are somewhere upstairs they try to jump up but quite often they also run or shoot against walls. I finished the main campaign in about 4 hours on Extreme (hardest) difficulty with dying only few times due to either fail jumping from me and some one-shot boss mechanics. The bosses besides the final one were absolutely easy and you basically had to run in circle while shoot the boss with hardest weapon. There were almost never trouble with finding ammunition or other difficulties found in other shooters on harder difficulty. The only real fun part about the combat was shooting limbs off enemies and seeing them jump around funny or being bounced off by broken physics of the game.
Graphic & Interface : 4/10
The graphic was simple, but some levels contained a bit of details. There were multiple styles of maps so it was not too much of reskinning used, however the interface was so oldschool that it looked just bad and unfitting. Some map borders should be defined better because quite a lot of time I trapped myself between rocks not being able to jump out again that caused some frustration while exploring the map.
Progress & Mini-Games : 2/10
The progress is based on killing all enemies on the level and finding all secrets. By that you gain energy to upgrade your weapons and cores for upping the stats of your character.
Audio & Immersion : 6/10
There were not many tracks, but some heavy metal songs during bigger fights were fitting the game and gave an immersive feeling like in some good old FPS titles. The weapons and enemies had distinct effects and the score is still not higher than 6/10 because there were too few different tracks and it became repetative after few maps.
Side-Notes
- This game offers single player "campaign" and two survival mode (number of waves or amount of time).
- This game contains steam achievements and steam trading cards, that both are easy to finish in about 5 hours.
- This game is absolutely short - it took me about 4 hours to get through campaign on hardest difficulty while finding all secrets and killing all enemies. Another 2-3 hours for finishing survival modes and achievements.
[*]This game is not well polished since some enemies tend to bug around, you can get stuck in a lot of places, graphical errors when entering or leaving rooms and other annoying bugs occur.
Summary
Putrefaction 2: Void Walker receives a bad score, however if you can get this game on a sale for what you consider a cheap price, I can suggest getting it, since you can finish it in a short time, farm some achievements and get trade cards along that would re-pay some of the initial price payed. For some people it might even be fun jumping like crazy and shooting limbs off enemies while listening to metal music, however the quality of the game is nothing compared to good FPS titles.
I hope this review helps you making the decision if its worth buying and installing this game. Rate and leave a comment if you enjoyed reading it.
~ForestWolf
I have only played about half of this game, so this review only reflects 4 out of the 8 levels that are in the campaign.
Pros: Cool weapons (6 in the game)
Challenging gameplay
A survival gamemode along with the campaign
Cool looking enemies
Old-school gameplay (aka searching for secrets and character upgrades)
An upgrade system for all weapons
Decent level design
Gibbing system for turning enemies into a fine red paste
Nice looking envronments
Difficult bosses (on the hardest difficulty)
Good pricetag for the amount of content in the game
Cons: Poor voice acting for both the main character and enemies
Poorly translated dialogue
Cringy dialogue (on occasion)
The campaign is somewhat short
Mediocre story
I highly suggest you install the demo before buying the full version. And for those of you that use windows 10, run the game on windows 7 compatibility mode, otherwise it will not work. Overall (what I have played of it), this game is a lot of fun, and I highly suggest you buy it.
Edit: Okay, I just finished the game, and overall, it is still just as fun as the first half. Save for the second and third bosses on extreme difficulty.
Think of this games as a lackluster Serious Sam. It has the same feel as a Serious Sam game, things just don't come together as smoothly as they do with Sam. I would give this rating a "neutral" if possible, a "yes" if you really enjoy Serious Sam - type FPS, and a "no" if you like higher quality shooters a la Crysis, Far Cry, Bio Shock, etc.
Considering this was a one man job and I can't say that it wasn't enjoyable. I would ultimately recommend buying this game when it's on sale.
No-nonsense weapons with no reloading. Cheesy voice lines. Vague story where you need to kill a lot of people but aren't entirely sure why. An achievement with the description "Deal with guys from cave near the road." 10/10
Fun fast paced 90s style arcade shooter.
Pros:
Run around and shoot things.
No Reloading guns.
Most of the guns feel great to shoot.
Levels are not just corridors.
Cons:
Simple graphics and sounds probably from the Unity asset store. Doesn't bother me but I know people who hate dated graphics.
Occasionally when looking for a secret you can jump into an nook and get stuck. Then you have to reload a checkpoint.
The machine gun isn't fun to shoot.
