This is one of the worst VR games I have ever played. The tutorial makes zero sense at all and didn't even describe how to do anything
The game does not register if i have done a kick flip when i have for a chalange fix that it not good for the game any way i like it
Very confusing, the play area seems backwards, choosing to be regular stance makes you roll fakie. This game is strange and as much as I wanted to play it more I just could not wrap my head around wtf was going on. I'd recommend to try (like i would almost any other game) thanks to the refund system, but I would keep your expectations low.
Game literally has no way to pause on the Oculus Rift (1.0 for those of you who are in the future and have the Rift 2 as there may be a hardware fix by then) as the button to pause is THE HOME BUTTON which means that the input is not registered.
I've had this game on my wishlist for over a year, and I finally caved and bought it at full price simply because I need more skateboarding experiences! Hover Skate VR is unplayable. There are so many glitches that prevent me from enjoying anything this game has to offer, and it appears the game hasn't had an update since last year, over 6 months ago.
The game shows some promise, mind you. If the single dev could just work on it more and offer us larger play spaces and more free-roaming and exploration as well as better movement mechanics, it could be a good game for VR demos at least. The board-flipping mechanic needs some work, but it kind of works. It just has some glitch issues, like times when the board just flies away for no reason or completely vanishes and renders the game unplayable.
The levels could be a lot bigger! People have this crazy notion that VR games have to be small. That's simply not true! I want to use the movement mechanics to rotate my board rather than strafe. I want to explore an entire skate park freely rather than running a line of grind spots and teleporting back to the beginning of them. I want more of a reason to challenge myself and others. Currently, the leaderboards are for whoever gets the highest combo, which is just grinding a single spot from what I can tell. I can infinitely grind and just wait for the points to accrue.
I ultimately refunded the game because I simply could not play it. The board kept disappearing and not coming back. Consistently, after several restarts. I know it's in EA, but it's been in EA limbo for a while. I was hoping the game was at least playable by now... but it isn't.

The only game that gives me motion sickness. Be warned.
if you thought skate had a learning curve you're in for a shock.
but it's very promising and that feeling of actually landing a difficult trick is so rewarding.
really looking forward to seeing where the devs go with this.
Challenging and fun game, if you skateboard you will like it and should probably get it.
Ok, so its not a skate simulator, and its not Tony Hawk Pro Skater...
The thing with Tony Hawk was it made it easy to pull off sock moves with simple button presses...
This game is actually challenging, I kinda equate it to those mini finger skateboards, it actually takes practice and skill to pull off moves and chains of moves to get a good multiplier like in tony hawk...
Its really hard, but oh so satisfying to pull off a decent streak...

Its basically Pro Skater... in an alternate universe version of Back to the Future 2's "2015" where everyone does handstands to get around. Which is kinda exactly as awesome as it sounds :)
As a skater for many years I found the controls near enough impossible, not being able to shift your front foot (towards your body) easily made even kickflips very difficult.
It took far too long for the board to reset too in between fails.
As for doing kickflips. I wanted my right hand at the back with my left side towards the track but even then it still saw a kickflip as a heelflip.
Also, not a big fan of the music so would appreciate some audio controls.
Fix these and I'll be back to try again as it's a really good idea but as most of these games that emulate something that takes skill (like rock band etc). It's designed for people who have never skated (it seems) whereby people that have will find it non-intuitive. Not sure if there's a middle ground but I hope you find it (or add in a option for "skater mode"! :) will be back if you do.
It's basically Skate with your hands as your feet and instead of jumping up, you push down to "jump" and do tricks. I find it pretty relaxing.
I enjoy the game, but the latest version isn't working for me. It never loads into the HMD. I can see it on my desktop window, as if it's loaded and working, waiting for me to set the rail height. But it never loads to HMD
I absolutely dont know what the other positive reviews are talking about, I skate myself and think this game is horrible.
- way too short levels, do 1 or 2 tricks and its over
- the board is way too floaty, it constantly slips out of your hands by mistake
- the tricks arent registered correctly
- its all about stupid points....no style no clean landing, nothing, its just crazy flips on end
- there is no regular stand.....only goofy, anything else is registered as a switch trick
- bail one time during a session and its over, back to a menu and select restart, since you bail so often its annoying as hell
- the controls overall are just way too awkward
Its just not enjoyable, like at all. I really like that this is something different, but in the end I think it fails to deliver a fun experience. I absolutely have nothing positive to say about the gameplay.

Great game for Early Access, Developer has talent and seems to give a damn. Support the dev and keep this game going.
Pros:
++ Impressive for early access. Developer has skills yo.
++ Oculus Touch support added
+ Graphics are nice and polished, nothing over the top and nothing boring.
+ Flip and grind mechanics are great considering the early access stage.
+ UI is quite polished, works as good as it looks too (heaps good).
Cons:
- Needs an 'auto restart on bail' option, better yet a 'get my board back and keep going' button.
-- No slow motion option, this would reduce nausea for those affected and also be nice for learning the mechanics.
-- Board is very picky about where you place your feet to start, would be better if it were a button instead?
It's like EA's Skate series in a new medium. Plenty of potential and just the included levels have tons of replayability.

innovative use of beer curb skateboards brand i cant give this game enough props man its a skaters dream machine
Backed 100% The developers are genious. This concept needed to be done in VR, and Hyper Light found an innovative way to make it, not only feel great, but work so smooth! Please realize how rediculously polished this release is compared the flood of gimics we have these days on Steam. This is one of those VR games that you can just waste hours in trying to land a flawless line. I'm not even a skater by any means, but a big fan of other skating games through the years. I think this one is honestly the next evolution of those franchises. EA needs to contact HyperLight and send them a cheque to create a big release with this code. I have a lot of faith that this is going somewhere in the near future. Imagine multiplayer! I can't recommend this one enough. Not to mention - Those new music tracks are so killer ;) Wish HyperLight the best of luck!!!!
Cool game! Hard.. but I imagine real skating is too. I like to try out the edge case games, I think it's important to try out and ask for games out of the norm. Lots of trial and error (again, real I imagine) but the physics and such feel right. If you are into skating I imagine you'll like this. I'll try more later, but wanted to give a positive review because the game delivers as promised.. VR skating with your hands (feet?)
Pretty fun once you start learning how to play, I'd like to see longer maps though too, I've only played for 2 or 3 hours and I am in first place for all 5 maps so I must be pretty good
