Liftoff®: FPV Drone Racing

It's wild that this is the industry standard for learning fpv drone flying. I am a beginner so let me share first impressions from that point of view. Firstly the most egregious:

- The first lesson on the tutorial has you simply fly in a straight line so you can focus on your throttle / altitude control. Makes sense. But for some reason, they have this tutorial set on a golf course and the starting area is not on level ground, so as soon as you take off, your drone immediately beings drifting to the left. Baffling why the tutorial is not in a completely flat part of the map.

- Then you get to the tutorial step that teaches you how to make banked turns. Seems like it would be easiest to do this with a big wide open area that has maybe a few big 90 degree turns with large gates that a beginner can easily see and pass through. But no, the tutorial forces you to do very tight 20' radius figure 8's. Impossible to do if you're just a beginner. Was not helpful at all to 'brute-force' my way through this tutorial level.

Here are some other issues that I came across that were more unique to me since I am using a steam link box to play on my tv in another room:
- The game can’t recognize my controller's throttle input below 50 when plugged into steam link. Very bizarre. But when I run a usb cord directly from my computer, it works fine.
- I can't use any bound buttons on my radio controller to pause the game. Normally if you are at a computer this wouldn't be a problem - you can always press the escape key on a keyboard. But my keyboard is in another room, so in order to get back to the main menu or restart the race, I have to either beat the race, or walk back to my desktop computer and click esc there. I also can't select 'retry' with the directional sticks on my controller once the race finishes. I have to go back to my computer and use the mouse.

MY ADVICE FOR BEGINNERS WHO STILL WANT TO BUY THIS GAME:
- I highly recommend you just do the "pole position" race (circuit map) for the first few hours and practice with a drone that can flip back over if it crashes (i used the racewhoop). That track has wide generous turns and large gates and is way better than doing the tutorial or other races where you'll spend most of the time on the ground. The first race in the Pit ("way down in the hole") is good too.

I feel like an actual radio controller is mandatory here. I use an Xbone controller, and it's playable, but it's too sensitive and drifts.
So far works really nice with Linux natively

only played 3 hours total and it seems like the real thing. at first i couldn't get the drone to hover or keep still. now i can hover, turn, and light weight go the directions i want. give me some more time and i think i'll get better.

Parfait pour s'y pratiquer. Lier la manette se fait très facilement et les menus sont simples.

Almost playing well but getting better keep low, fast and meticulous, good stuff.

after some training in Liftoff you can really go and fly fpv drone with feeling that you know what you do, without crashing right away.

Physics feel very good, slipstream is nice and racing feels good. Has few nice maps, but could use some more.

This is a great game. IF and pretty much only IF you fly or plan to fly fpv drones. I use my controller do practice without spending a whole lot on crashing drones. It is very fun to fly in this simulator and helps a lot for practicing.

Great way to start FPV drone flying, without fear of crashing.

Amazing graphics & music! Difficult at the start, but slowly masterable, recommended ;)!

The best gateway drug to spending hundreds of dollars on a new hobby you can't afford.

Let's hope I crash less flying for real than I do in Liftoff.

Best real world physics compared to an actual FPV Drone. Feels like I am actually flying my fpv's. This would be the best option for learning on a simulator FIRST, as it is almost exactly the same as real flying.

I was able to learn how to fly fpv safely with this sim. Spent about 20 hours on here before flying irl and it definitely helped! I recommend turning prop wash on in the settings though because that was a surprise to me when I had my first actual flight

Excellent sim! The tutorials got me familiar with the foundations and after lots of practice, I was able to fly my Avata 2 in manual mode, and weeks later, still haven't had a single crash. Highly recommended!

I love this simulator. I've never used a different simulator and I don't feel like I need to. I know the physics are going to be different in real life, but this still has helped me to get the muscle memory for drone movements down.

Good physics, nice graphics. As close to the real thing as you can get.

This Sim is a lot of fun, hopefully I can actually fly acro mode eventually.

This is a really good game to learn FPV. one of the best the best i have used in a wile.

This game is great for beginners, to start learning FPV sim. Make sure you are using a gaming PC to run the game, high frame rate is your friend. Also I recommend watching Joshua Bardwell's Learn to fly an FPS drone guide on howto fly.

This game is great for fpv drone learning and just practicing, great selection of drones and great maps with community tracks.

Solid physics good amount of tracks to play even tho i can't race my favorite one any more it only lets me freeflight it :(... the game is solid tho i recommend

very good game however recommend watching Joshua bardwell's guide on how to fly. MAKE SURE YOU ARE NOT USING A DESKTOP PC LIKE ME, its works but it only gets 40 fps and i have a dell inspirion

This was my first FPV Sim. Amazing community and toooons of maps. Physics are always improving but still a bit too shy from reality. Developers listen to feedback and are always improving the experience :)

Not updated often, generally only has older drones included, physics are floaty in comparison to some, doesn't perform fantastically and there's not a lot to do. The weird (probably) AI training with coins isn't that cool either.

This game saved me so much money. I put in a hundred hours in it to learn FPV and made me much better when I tried FPV in real life. The developers are very supportive even with my weird Linux setup. Highly recommend!

Must have app if you are getting started with fpvs. Paired easily with my mac and my radiomaster boxer. Awesome app/game to learn and master piloting a drone.

If you want to learn how to fly FPV drones this is certainly a place to start. You're still going to crash a lot though. Turn off god mode.

its actually really nice. I love it so much, I have always wanted to fly a drone but being broke its not that easy. even though i dont even have a real controller it is still sick even with just a ps4 controller. def recomend

The Windows version runs well on my MSI laptop. I use a RadioMaster Boxer as the controller. Graphics are great. Runs around 250fps. I'm using this to learn following Josh Bardwell's How to Fly FPV 20-vid series on Youtube.

I recommend it, the first veils were like learning to walk. After a few hours, one more is released. I highly recommend it so as not to risk the drone. This is the first step to be an FPV pilot

Overall, Liftoff has made learning FPV so much easier and more fun. If you're looking to improve your skills or even just start from scratch, I highly recommend giving it a try!

This game is outstanding for learning the basics of how to fly FPS i don't know how close it maps to real world flying but understanding how to move in space ahead of the real thing seems like a game changer.

slowly getting the hang of it. picked up a rotor riot boxer and lift off to finally get my foot in the door, glad i went this rout, i crash alot!

Good game. Well defined graphics and a nice sandbox layout. Plays well on Mac, excellent on windows 11. Plenty of features/accessories. Gets you well trained for real drone flying.

Fantastic game, not fully true to life, some may agree with that liftoff is a bit more floaty than say Velocidrone, but still its close enough to the real thing (as long as you use a radio controller), I bought myself a DJI FPV and thanks to Liftoff I have been able to have several successful flights :), if you do want super realistic physics then Velocidrone is the one :)

Great Sim, I played a lot of hours of this before i got my first FPV drone, and i still have yet to break a drone from a crash,

Perfect for practicing when the weather doesn't allow it or you simply don't want to crash while trying new tricks.
Not the best visuals, but imo it feels way more real than any other sim I've tried so far.

Great simulator! Let's you build a digital version of your quad, well, for the most part so that you can get some great practice and break it in game instead of in the real world! Best physics I have seen yet!

I have only been using this simulator for a few weeks but I believe it is the best tool available for anyone starting off in the world of FPV. I have recently purchase the 2 newest DJI FPV 'Whoop" style drones, the Avata 2 and the Neo. I am exited to start flying but I'm also ensuring that I have the necessary confidence to operate them prior to taking off.
For the price Liftoff is money well spent!!

Closest thing to flying. So much fun after you get used to acro mode.

Be careful with the confidence you gain in this sim. Replacing parts is a lot more expensive than pressing 'R'
