Rosenkreuzstilette is an action-platformer game in which you step into the shoes of Spiritia Rosenberg, a virtuous young woman caught on the wrong side of a revolution instigated by her closest friends. Each of the game's seventeen stages is filled with treacherous terrain and swarms of enemies ready to make quick work of our plucky young heroine. Guide Spiritia safely to the boss at the end of each stage and use all of the abilities at your disposal to knock some sense into them.

Upon defeating a boss for the first time, Spiritia may acquire a new magical ability or two. There are plenty of unique abilities scattered throughout the game, and some of them can make particularly troublesome areas much easier to navigate. Each boss is especially vulnerable to certain abilities, so learning to pinpoint and exploit these weaknesses is bound to make defeating them a lot less painful (for you, not them).

Having recently completed a six-month-long teaching assignment for the Holy Empire, Spiritia Rosenberg was anxious to return home to her friends and get some well-deserved rest.

Unfortunately, her homecoming would not be the warm welcome she had expected. As Spiritia returned to the Imperial Training Grounds, a monstrous dragon appeared and whisked away her student Iris, the daughter of the esteemed Count Michael Zeppelin. Moments later, flames engulfed the training grounds and its surroundings, ruthlessly consuming everything in their wake. With no time to lose, Spiritia and her fairy companion Lilli rushed into the burning forest in pursuit.

Making her way through the roaring flames, Spiritia was overjoyed to find her best friend, the cool and collected Freudia Neuwahl, already on the scene. However, her joy quickly turned to horror as she learned the identity of the arsonists; her own organization of magicians, Rosenkreuzstilette, with Freudia herself leading the assault.

Freudia informed Spiritia of the unit's decision to rise against the injustices fostered by the Empire, inviting her to rejoin their comrades as they declared war on mankind. Not one to tolerate the suffering of innocents, Spiritia refused - and vowed to stop her comrades from making a senseless and deadly mistake.

Join Spiritia in her quest to stop Rosenkreuzstilette, a company of rogue magicians led by Count Zeppelin himself. A squad composed entirely of Spiritia's dearest friends...

Be sure to write this password down in case you need to quit your game for any reason. If you're feeling lazy, press the F12 key to save a screenshot of your password to the game's "screenshot" subfolder.

Think of replays as video recordings of your game sessions that play within the game itself. If you are having trouble with a particular stage or boss, studying a replay can help you recognize different ways of approaching a situation and allow you to figure out enemy attack patterns. You can also use replays to share particularly impressive playthroughs with your friends or to point out the locations of the many secrets hidden throughout the world of Rosenkreuzstilette.

To save a replay, select “Save Replay & Quit” from the Password Screen that appears after a Game Over or completing a stage. Alternatively, you can press the Pause button and select “Save Replay & Quit” from the Pause Menu to save a replay at any time. Selecting this option will end the current game and display the Save Replay Menu. This menu will appear automatically after you have completed the final stage, allowing you to save a replay of the entire game. Select an empty slot and you will be prompted to enter a name of up to 8 characters long. Once you have entered your name, select “Save” and your replay will be saved for posterity.
Replay files are saved to the game's "replay" subfolder and are automatically named in sequential order ("rks001.rpy", "rks002.rpy", "rks003.rpy", and so on).

Rosenkreuzstilette is a mix of Megaman (gameplay) and Castlevania (aesthetics) with a few references to other franchises thrown in. It's also quite difficult (especially when using the unlockable extra character), so don't expect to fully beat this game unless you're willing to memorize the stages and boss patterns.

I was willing to learn this stuff and 100%ed this game as well as the sequel - and I don't regret it because the controls are fluid and the graphics and music are great. If you're more of a casual gamer though, I'd recommend staying away from this one (as well as the sequel).

I usually don't care if a game is a shameless copy of a different game as long as it's good, but this one went beyond just being a legally distinct Mega Man fangame, it copy pasted many screens, enemies and bosses. It's not just a reference or homage, most stages are literally a collage of screens from different mega man games, there's barely anything original here. If you're a MM veteran the game feels like a Deja Vu marathon, i didn't enjoy that one bit. What's the point of playing this game if i'm just playing a mediocre remix of classic levels?

The game isn't terrible, i mean, how could it be if it's literally mega man with copy pasted enemies and level design? It has nothing to offer to MM veterans searching for something new to play, it's not even a decent challenge, it's either extermely easy or it's some annoying spike spam because you can't be a true MM fangame without having a bunch of instadeath screens that require trial and error.

It's not terrible, it's playable, it can be fun because it's literally MM, but it's not really worth your time.

Also why the hell did they decide to rip off Toad Man??!!??! There's like a billion robot masters and you pick fucking Toad Man? Seriously?

Old school megaman clone with personality/waifus . It's not too difficult to the point of kaizo, it's beatable by exploring your options. It knows what it is, and does a decent job at it.

A genuinely cool mega man style game with a unique art style, some banger music, and fantastic level/boss design. Its a bit jank at times, and there's a lot of direct references to very specific things from across the whole mega man series, but its still a great time regardless.

I don't think this game is objectively bad. There's certainly an appeal here for a certain type of player. I fit into some of the target audience venn diagram bubbles, just not all of them.

If you are a big Mega Man franchise fan, you may like this game. That's what drew me to it. But the most reliable predictor of how you are going to feel about this game is how you feel about Mega Man 2 specifically.

I mean it. You may as well prepare to feel the exact same way about this game, because while there's other nods here and there (even to games outside the MM franchise) it's a startlingly faithful homage to MM2 in particular. That's why the recommendation is tricky. The things that turn me off are going to be the same things that hook others.

I'm in the camp that thinks Mega Man 2 was a great product of its time and a HUGE improvement over its predecessor, but has since been overshadowed in so many ways (both inside and outside of its own series) and just hasn't aged well.

Rosenkreuzstilette crawls inside and wears that age like a onesie. It's very intentional and up-front about that. As I watch the trailer replay while writing this review, I realize I should have taken those cues more seriously. I don't regret the purchase or supporting the devs (though I'm not sure how much actually goes to the original devs), I'm just left with that "agree to disagree" feeling that pretty much any MM fan is used to feeling when discussing with others what the ideal MM experience is.

And that's kinda one of the great facets of these types of games. They appear so similar, but there's lots of nuances underneath that will put players into different camps. Mega Man has a broad appeal, so not every game will click with every player, but each fan's preferences are valid and it's nice that they have spiritual successors to capture those feelings.

"Rosenkreuzstilette" is a great Mega Man-clone, but with magical anime girls and a weird mid 2000s internet-collab feel.

It is an uncomprimising mash-up of all the elements of the early titles of the blue bomber (even the infuriating ones like password-progression, the Quick-Man-Stage lasers and the yellow devil boss-fight but on speed). I played some female fronted Mega Man-clones like "Khimera" and "Mega Serval" before (is this a thing now? I dunno, but they are great and free btw), but this one is quite special and can sometimes be a really tough nut to crack.
The stages feel a little bland sometimes (except the final stages, they crank up the difficulty quite a lot), but the bossfights make up for it. The soundtrack is quite great, the gothic "castlevania-like" tabs are nice and the german stage-names, character-names and spell-names along with the voiceover are absolutely ridiculous for a native speaker.

In short, it's a great and weirdly niche genre fanservice, got both titles on sale for around 4 bucks and wasn't disappointed!

Cute Mega Man clone that leans a bit too much in the "too hard for its own good" category.
If you're a completionist you are gonna suffer, four of the achievements require a good level of mastery over the game, and considering that just finishing the game normally without going for anything special is a good bit harder than any classic Mega Man you can imagine how hard those are.
