Metal Gear Rising Revengeance and the Stanley Parable had a child and it was great
Got every achievement in 6 hours. Absolutely would recommend
Pretty short game, really fun cathartic combat but the story does go all over the place. Apparently a lot of players complain about hitstun which means they didn't pay attention to the tutorial, you can recover from hitstun instantly by pressing the jump button to recover a la kingdom hearts.
Outstanding visuals and the combat honestly feels very good..
however the game is very short... is what i thought at first but achievement hunting gives it a few more hours of playtime which i heavily recommend.
its fun ignoring the narrator and listening to him get mad as you do your own thing!
enemy stun lock combos
unskippable cutscenes
repeating unskippable cutscenes
Narrator is obsessed with imagery from some play called "The King in Yellow"...Black stars, Carcosa, yellow kings...if you're not familiar with it, nothing will make sense....which I'm not, and it doesn't.
Average Hack&Slash.
The meta commentary made it better.
controls and navigating menus are clunky on keyboard, and the "meta" narrative may get interesting later on but honestly the narrator's voice is grating and makes me not want to play
This game left me with so many questions, and not a single one is answered. It is too short and not linear enough to warrant going back to replaying it and figuring out the lore. I don't get the meta commentary aspect, and the narrator is just very annoying. The combat was satisfying, but not engaging. I got to burn through enemies without ever thinking about the buttons I was pressing.
TL;DR - If you enjoy The Stanley Parable and fast-paced 2D action games, this will be perfect for you. Be expecting plenty of 4th wall breaks and a shockingly brief amount of time to complete this title (I got all achievements and beat the game in a little over 4 hours).
Gonna' be honest, going into this game blind, I did not expect it to be what it was. I will keep this mostly spoiler-free, so no need to worry, I'm not going to ruin anything that you don't experience in the first 5 minutes of the game. That said, the appearance of the narrator completely caught me off-guard and it was only after a bit of playing did I realize what the game was truly going for. I will say, I'm not too crazy on a lot of games that break the 4th wall so heavily, but I didn't hate what was done here, so that's a plus in my book.
Now, I will say, this game plays so amazingly, I really wish they could have made it longer for that alone. It's so intense, fast-paced, fairly flashy, and the dash ability is amazing, both in and out of combat. Major proper to the battle designers here because they definitely nailed it.
The music and sound design were pretty spot on too, although I am not super crazy on the electro/techno/synth-y sort of genres on display in this title.
Also, I will say that I do enjoy the idea of the game's plot as a whole, but I do kinda' wish there was a bit more to one half of it. Not on the 4th wall break side of things, but the other plot. Keeping it vague for newbies, but those who have played the game should get what I mean.
All in all, I enjoyed this title quite a lot and definitely look forward to sequel, or another game by this crew that plays kinda' like this one. I highly recommend it if you want something to just sit down for an afternoon and blast through some enemies and a fairly short story.
The Stanley Parable if it was actually good
If you played Devil May Cry or Bayonetta, then this one is for u.
ICEY is more of hack and slash & less of metroidvania. (no itemisation, just 1 or 2 acquired skills & you are done)
The rest is pure ACTION. Go wild & stylish as yet another "Daugther of Vergil".
love the art, love the style , love the story love the game play love the achievements. fun game to play if you want to kill some time
interesting combination of 2d god of war, anime and stanley parable. yes, THAT stanley parable.
I give it no because the concepts are contradicts each others
good combat mechanic is ruined by the narrative story that trying so hard to be funny like stanley parable
it's best to remove those comedic element, because it's very out of context
Short but fun
despite not having a bajillion hours and having not played it in probably half a decade, ICEY is a game i still hold very fond. its art is beautiful and its storytelling narrative is very interesting. you're able to replay it over and over so many times to go down different routes and paths. i love it so much. i wish it was longer.
From start to finish, it took me about 2 hours. I didnt finish everything and i didnt explore everything. Fascinating nonetheless. I personally like the combat style a lot, though in the beginning i had my issues but i quickly got used to it and i even just realized now that i finished this game without dying. In any case, I definetly enjoyed the game, especially the art, and combat style. Overall i recommend it. I forgot to mention how great the music was and how perfectly it fit.
I will never regret buying this game
ICEY is basically The Stanley Parable if Stanley had been a girl with a sword who fought robots in a dystopian future. I really like the feature that lets you jump in sewage. A few minor gripes: I don't know if it is intentional, but it gives me the wrong achievements sometimes and then I get the correct achievements later. While the narrator can be fun to mess with, he occasionally sounds like he tries a little too hard to be funny. The "main story" is also very short. But at its core, it's a fun and colorful side-scrolling hack and slash. I see it as a thing to dink around with and kill evil robots, mostly. If that sounds like your thing, try it out.
Overall Rating: 7/10
Only played for a short time, but this isn't for me. Combat feels clunky and weirdly sluggish, ant the narration is just weird.
I still don't know what this game is about
A little clunky here and there, but it's a good game and I'm glad I played it. What more can I say?
Red fly laser things hit tooo hard feels broken spam and too hard to hit back just annoying distraction for the main fight
I loved the layout and mechanics of the game as well as the visual elements and styling, it blends a mixture of future and present to help guide me on my journey through the icey world, the difficulty means you will be playing for a while and honestly after my MMORPG addiction and its end i dare say it was worth the effort, i did have to look a few fights up but that was more to do with time constraints than anything else.
Id say it plays like a futuristic cuphead + a sidescroller
The game doesn't really earn the meta-narrative interactions that it has been lauded for. One of the first few interactions is the narrator getting incredibly upset that you went into an empty room, there was no lead up to this, it was just jarring. You're playing this game for either its 4th wall breaks or its game play, you can find both elsewhere and probably get more enjoyment out of it.
The hack-and-slash action aspect of the game doesn't feel particularly fun or varied, and the 4th wall breaking meta narratives are not interesting, and come out to be more annoying than anything.
It's very short, no real replay value, the dodging never feels right, and the later bosses are a boring and repetitive hit and run away, this is probably not the anime style 2D H&S you're looking for.
Surprisingly well-made! Fun hack & slash game with emphasis on a 3. wall breaking narration. Soundtrack is nice, too.
Spam X to win...
This is a hack and slash game where you have a narrator you can listen to and follow, or completely ignore and explore. The narrator will get upset and that’s the source of the humour. Humour is subjective and while I don’t think it will hit with most people, the game is still engaging enough for its 10 hour runtime. Also, it only costs $14 Canadian, so you get enough bang for your buck.
Zero clue how the game's this highly rated. Enemies scale insanely quick and if you make the mistake of actually diversifying your moveset instead of dumping into one move + health you're stuck dealing with insanely tanky enemies that wipe your shield in 2 hits and your healthbar immediately after. Later areas have large groups of enemies juggling you in stupid ways like groups of suicide bombers grabbing you, exploding, then the next one grabs you immediately because you have no iframes getting up. The dodge sucks and has no iframes unless you pull off the parry which has an INCREDIBLY tiny window. I wasn't even done the first run before I started dreading the fact that I would have to do this again for whatever other endings there are, and just gave up.
Damn shame because I was actually liking the story.
Is this the greatest hack and slash ever? No, not really. Is it still a good value for the money. Yes.
Things to note: If you absorb these games the way the US economy absorbs debt, then this one is not going to shine for you, there are a lot of titles that work just as well to scratch the itch. But it has a nice aesthetic, and it has a nice goldielocks control scheme that's not too hard and not push X to beat game.
What it does it does well in a humble way, it's not trying to be a blockbuster, but it has a fun game play loop that works when you want to relax, and upping the difficulty makes you sit up, but it's not a From game, so you're not going to be stabbing yourself in the face and making deals with demonic forces for the timing to parry.
All around, a good cheap title, and it's not too commitment heavy.
I was really sold by the art, looking for a cool, straightforward game with interesting art and worlds. I wanted cool background art and easy gameplay (My favorite game is Strikers 1945-3). Those qualities are here, but the meta stuff, though clever, just detracts. It feels like two different games. I mean, did you need to go meta? Was there some profound, existential statement in there? Well I missed it because I gave up. We all like that sweet, sweet taste of meta fiction. What with the Deadpool movies and all. But I don't know why you needed to speak directly to me through your game. There I was enjoying your elegant design choices then you had to interrupt that to tell me about life and the industry or something. I feel like you and my ten dollars and 99 cents are laughing on a yacht somewhere, laughing at that fool who just wanted some robots and pizza. I think the game would have been a lot stronger if it just relied on your elegant design with the cool art. Really just wanted the simplicity and the robots. Obviously a lot of thought and talent was put into this game, but if it were salvaged from the meta stuff and relied on its mechanics and good looks, it would be stellar, in my opinion. Maybe even as good as Strikers.
fuck Carlos
this game juggles you too much, one enemy hits you and youre done, infinite juggling. shit checkpoints feel like an eternity on the runback
Its fun
The game has a lovely but noısy Narrator and thats all u need to know
A very fun short game, took me 4 hours to 100%.
