Its really good. It basically is just dmc5 gameplay with less moves and worse level design only play it if you really liked dmc5

Nero's abilities and devil arm was coolest things to play with that we can dodge,perry and attack in stylish ways.
The story felt like a anime and it was well animated too.
the only bad thing was the repetitive Boss fight (like some bosses came 3 times in the main story) and they were so easy BUT THE FINAL BOSS was the hardest in this game!

While yes, Devil May Cry 4 never was fully finished and Dante's part of the game is repetitive. I still had a lot of fun killing demons with my devilbringer and enjoying style switching with Dante.

This is in fact the first game to include Nero, A kid with a demon arm. Even though he isn't Dante, he has his own movesets and own combos that make playing him fun and enjoyable. His gimmick DevilBringer, is really fun to use in combos and I think is the most badass thing to use in a boss fight, this game wasn't perfect but jeez its really fun and has really great gameplay, his track "The Time Has Come" is one of my FAVORITE battle songs in all of DMC.

The gameplay being fast and smooth the whole time playing it. Running through levels and killing demons fast and smooth was really nice. I loved Nero's gameplay and style that he has is also really fun. His "Red Queen" being his main sword looks really cool. It's gimmick being that you can rev it up to deal more damage and overall pack a punch, I didn't use it all that much but when I did, it dealt a lot of damage.

Dante being the complaint that I hear when someone talks about DMC 4. I didn't have that much of an issue playing through Dante's part, it felt nice playing him again after just getting done with DMC 3. He does have a repetitive backtracking which I didn't like all too much, his combos and the addition to style switching made up for it. The new devil arms he gets aren't all too great, I only really used Rebellion and his gauntlets. His boss fights are also repetitive and that got annoying to me a lot of the time but being able to use a "certain weapon" as him at the end of the game felt so fun and made up for the repetitive stuff.

While Devil May Cry 4 isn't the strongest out of 1, 3 and 5. It has it's bad parts and great parts! But I think that It certain does deserve more love and appreciation as it is a great DMC game and is very fun! (I also like it a lot more because I can play as Lady and I loveeeeee Lady)

I loved this game don't get me wrong, but its so broken and is in desperate need of fixing as crashes are common and while there are checkpoints for dying and continuing, there is NO checkpoints if the game is closed it seems, please fix the game CAPCOM. This was a great game but it NEEDS to be cleaned up, I literally cant progress past chapter 09 because no matter what it breaks after the bosses cutscene no matter what I try

Good game, bad port. I've ran into so many issues with it. I will be honest and say that i do play on my Steam Deck via Desktop Mode, but it doesn't excuse how frustrating it is to deal with this game. DMC4SE has crashed my Steam Deck more than a dozen times. In Desktop Mode, I have to play in windowed mode, or else the game itself crashes. Even then, if I attempt to close the game manually, it freezes my entire system, forcing me to hold down my Steam Deck's power button to restart it. The ONLY WAY I can close the game without freezing is having to minimize the application before closing it.

If you don't care about mods, just get the game on PS4 or Xbox One until Capcom fixes this port... that is if they ever will considering how little they care about their ports.

A little easy/unbalanced. Dante here plays a little weird. The romance story of Nero is cringeworthy. But overall still good game, a plus for playable ladies 8/10

C'MON, CAPCOM.

The game is listed as unsupported on Steam Deck, but I've been playing it there just fine. However, on Windows it refuses to launch. Awful. Even if you have a Deck, it's still crap that you can't play it on a desktop PC, so I'm saying don't bother until Capcom fixes it.

Random update in 2023 broke the game and made it always crash on launch, rendering it unplayable.

This game is incredibly conflicting because as a dmc game, it's phenomenal. The opening is the best in the series, Nero quickly cements himself as a shot of life for the franchise, the music is exquisite and the story that perfect mix of pulpy gothic action. Even Dante's sections which are just Nero's missions in reverse, are absolutely carried by the writing and combat. Despite some missteps, the first playthrough is one of the undeniable high points of the entire series.

Where the game irreparably crumbles is later playthroughs on higher difficulties and subsequent run throughs. The dice game, which was fine in it's first appearance, overstays it's welcome to a comical degree. Dante's whole "once more with feeling" feels like old ground, the unlockable characters don't offer enough fresh experiences to justify all the misery, the final boss is inarguably the worst in the entire series and just gets worse on higher difficulties. A later boss locks themself into an unbreakable loop that WILL end your run. It's at these points where the game shows it's weakness and it's unfortunate because a Devil May Cry game should truly shine on that second playthrough, when the player has the basics down and can start refining their skills while the game ups the ante.

All in all, I do recommend this game. It's just hard to keep recommending it.

Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition was my 3rd game in the series. Going from DMC3, to 5, and now this isn't disappointing. Even with only 14 hours, this game is a blast, and I assure anyone who considers purchasing it: it is an experience.

Game crashes on steam deck every time you go to the upgrade screen.

Unless you are willing to troubleshoot it, i don`t recommend this version of the game on PC. The game crashes on launch, and you need modify the game`s executable to work. The performance is bad too, i was having fps drops on a 5800X3D with a 4060Ti. I heard that you need to modify the game`s hex values to disable effects to fix the performance too lol. Anyway play the console version ^^

In the past Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition was working fine for me but now I'm trying to launch it now & it does not want to work anymore! :( A game I've grown up with & now i'ts that time it does not want to work.
Capcome needs to fix this.

its been years since ive played this, you move a lot slower than I remember. I also forgot the items in the shop get more and more expensive. needlessly annoying. overall a fun game that i"d recommend to people who enjoy hack-n-slash fun.

capcom should spend less time taking down mods and more time fixing their games.

good game but after you complete it as Nero you have to do everything thing again as Dante which is really boring, but playing as Vergil is really awesome but the cut scenes as Vergil are boring

Devil May Cry 4 is a fun action game, very much in line with the rest of the series in terms of gameplay. However, the new character, Nero, has additional gameplay gimmicks, mainly his grapple arm and grab mechanic, that make him very fun to play as. I found the first half of the game, where you play as Nero, to be the most enjoyable part; after a certain point in the game, you switch to playing as Dante, which was a nice change of pace, but unfortunately the Dante section of the game is just backtracking throughout the whole game quickly and re-fighting the main 5 bosses again with Dante instead of Nero. The ending was solid, as you switch back to Nero to fight the final boss.

Although the second part of the game was lacking from an environment and story perspective, I found playing as Dante a nice change of pace, and his action was just as fun as Nero's, even if I prefer Nero's abilities. Overall, I'd recommend to those who enjoy action games like the DMC series, NieR, Metal Gear Rising, and others.

DO NOT PURCHASE THIS VERSION OF DMC4. If you want to play dmc4, play any other version that isn't from steam because this shit is so fucking broken I can't even start the game. THIS PRODUCT SHOULD NOT BE FOR SALE.

It's not a bad game but it's currently convenient to play it everywhere but Steam. The game crashes at some point and you can no longer recover the game, there are a thousand solutions and some may work. First time I write a review because I find it horrendous that people can keep buying this game and it has so many bugs.

Capcom pushed an update randomly that completely bricked the game, the game boots to a black screen and will not go any further. There is a very awkward "fix" but that comes with its own issues like the steam overlay and steam input being disabled meaning certain controllers will no longer work and the game will now crash if you tab out during gameplay. It has been like this for the better part of a year and it has not been fixed

since mission 7 the game felt tame and i endured all the way to the first half of mission 18 before it FUCKING CRASHED

I really enjoyed this game. Its got an interesting story, classic DMC cutscenes, and of course great combat,

The only downsides to the game are purely mechanical. First they added a second currency which is used to level up skills instead of red orbs. This makes red orbs worthless pretty quick once you buy all the blue and purple orbs you can. Also, there's a ton of red orbs to find in the levels so it can be kinda tedious in subsequent playthroughs if you're trying to get high scores. Second, there is an automatic enemy handicap if you use too many continues (I think it triggers after your 3rd death). This was particularly annoying since it means you have to restart the level completely to get that proper sense of accomplishment on difficult levels.

I think that they were trying out a bunch of new things with this game and not all of them really worked out which is why it gets overlooked between 3 and 5. Despite those annoying little quality of life things, i think its still definitely worth giving a shot.

Story is amazing and gameplay is super fun!

Absolute banger of a game! Playing as Nero was a fast-paced thrill ride his gameplay felt dynamic and fresh, making the first half an absolute blast. But then comes the second half, where you switch to Dante. While his reckless charm, stylish combat, and aesthetic gameplay are undeniably captivating, revisiting the same areas and bosses felt a bit repetitive.
That said, the combat is jaw-dropping, the action is top-tier, and Dante's carefree attitude is just infectious. Even with a few crashes here and there, this game delivers an adrenaline-packed experience that's hard to put down. Highly recommended for action fans. 9/10

This game is literally unplayable on a modern PC. I had to search through forums to find a non-CAPCOM supported fix. I was eventually able to get to the menu, but any attempt to access the settings results in an immediate crash.

It is actually criminal that this is still a product for sale and CAPCOM should be ashamed.

Capcom needs to fix this game. Its ridiculous for customers to have to use hex editors just to make your game run. This honestly should be removed from steam until they fix this

I love DMC 4 (the Special Edition in particular is great with the addition of the new playable characters), but the game is literally unplayable. Capcom released an update that has broken the game to the point that it immediately crashes on launch, no matter what I do. Lots of folks online report the same issue, and yet the game remains bricked to this day. FIX THIS CAPCOM!!!

For whatever reason, CAPCOM updated the exe or whatever and now it will literally never launch. The exe or whatever is broken. I literally cannot play this game that I bought. I am not the only one experiencing this issue.

This game is stupidly fucking fun, but the very end segment you can see where the devs didnt have time to finish the game properly so its quite rushed. final boss sucks complete ass but everything else is unbelievably fun. the main story characters are both unique to play as, and the extra ones are fun too. You will be backtracking when you switch characters halfway through the campaign, and theres only like 3 or 4 bosses and youll fight them multiple times and its a bit dissappointing but they arent bad fights besides the final boss.

this game is very good but there is an annoying bug in this game, usually appear in mission 6 and 19, make a fatal error memory overrun pop up then you must close the game, the most weird is there is no problem with my pc and i can play other mission without any problem. and not just me, a bunch of people have it too and capcom didnt fix it, such a dissapointmen, dont buy this game, because you can't play it

The game itself is fun. Has a few frustrating puzzles but overall a fun experience. I will say that the port needs some fixes you find off the Googles, Youtubes, and Wikis out there for it to run on the last 2 machines I installed it on as it crashed upon launch.

dmc4 is just very good in combat & story was fine.

bloody palace is a massive wake up call to players true skill, especially with the other playable characters as well.

I've beaten dmc1 and 3, and I still have no idea how to play these games. I fиcking hate games that have ranking systems and shіt, but damn if they don't have most badass plots, stylish designs and the most amazing aesthetics forcing you to keep playing just to see whats gonna happen next. Basically this series together with other 90% of Japanese games ever made are a sweet-suffering gaming equivalent of an actual S&M play. And since minor physical pain makes me cry like a little girl, these are my number one go-to alternative to the actual thing. VERY NICEEE 👍👍👍

Pretty good! It's one of my favorites in the franchise, though I'm biased because I love Nero. Unfortunately, I had to rollback the game to a working version which isn't great but whatever. The game works on PS3& PS4 if your PC just wont load it and you're REALLY that desperate to play it. I would only recommend if you're willing to put in a few extra minutes fixing the game because it crashes on a lot of modern PCs and you are in it for the story/combat. Dante's missions are literally just heading backwards from Nero's so have fun with that lolol. The story is pretty good, I think Kyrie and Nero are so sweet! Nero's combat is fun (I LOVE his sick ass demon arm) and Dante is great as always. playable Lady and Trish is also a nice touch, but i wish they had their own stories. It was disappointing that Vergil, Trish, and Lady were just replacing characters instead of having their own cut-scenes or accounts of the events. :( The most annoying things are the candy land dice games but this game has a place dear in my heart. I would definitely play DMC1/DMC3 to start the series if you're really thinking of getting into the franchise. :)

Nero's combat bgm is really nostalgic for me. Also I enjoy the style ranking system, feels good to get an S rank on a level.
