DO NOT PLAY WITH KEYBOARD AND MOUSE, THIS IS EXTREMELY FUCKING IMPORTANT. Other than that, it's a great game.
Possibly the silliest game I've ever played... Whilst at the same time being insanely prescient and current with its plot! And for a game from 2013 it certainly holds up well graphically. The voice acting is a bit OTT but that's Metal Gear for you I suppose :)
The game throws you straight in at the deep end and then just keeps amping up the insanity layer by layer. Parry system takes a little getting used to but once you've got it it's very fun. The bosses progressively teach you the game mechanics and then later on give you a full examination on those mechanics. Plus you get to parkour along lines of rockets to cut giant mechas in half with a sword - what's not to like! It's a shame there's no sequel. Highly replayable and highly recommended.
good but it made me rlly mad because i sucked ass at it. im sorry kojima. please dont execute me.
Fairly good hack & slash, although I’m more of a gun guy and extreme stealth, this game comes no where in between what you’d expect a Metal Gear game to be.
Someone dressed up as jet stream sam stole the ball and scored on us in Azure Latch
Metal Gear Rising is a game where you fight cyborgs and giant robots to get to an evil organization, peak storytelling and gameplay. Remember to upgrade your character, you can do that, don’t make yourself suffer because you didn’t bother to check the customization menu. 10/10, the only issue with the controls is the weird enemy lock on system.
I don't like these kind of action combat games, rarely play them, and can be frustrating with the punishing combat, but I heard the music and good opinions about the story, so I tried it.
A good story, complex political arguments made from different perspectives.
Some interesting character interactions before and after combats.
A camera that sometimes works against you, I move the camera around to view where I want to go and the game resets the camera, rotating it so I end up watching the enemies that the game thinks that I should be looking at.
The combat requires learning to parry, I played on Normal and some bosses could only be beaten using parry. Decreasing the difficulty may make parrying easier, but I don't think you can beat the game without that movement. By the way, the way shows some information only once and then you need to use the internet to find out how to do some movements. Parrying is one example, I stopped playing for some days and when I took the game again, I didn't remember that parrying even existed. Searching for strategies to beat a boss I read that I had to parry him, then I had to search how to do that, because it is not in the list of skills or movements in the game itself.
VR missions are not there to help you earn XP and improve your weapons or skills, are there for players who want to hone their gaming skills.
If you are not into action/spectacle combat games, this one still deserves your attention because of its story.
The bosses are tricky which is what I think makes this game 10x better, the story line and memes that have been made from this game are amazing
To be fully honest I believe that Gamer's should at least play this game once. The combat in this game is really fun and satisfying especially in "Blade Mode", where you can cut up your opponent into pieces if you either weaken them to state you can cut them up or my parrying their attacks. The story in the game is kinda wacky but in a good way its apart of it's charm. I highly recommend the reader of this comment to try this game if you can.
extremely good game, soundtrack is fire and the boss fights are peak
METAL GEAR RISING; REVENGEANCE is a great game for mfs who enjoy playing as a spine-fluid drinking cyborg
10/10 experience thus far
UPDATE: 13.6 HRS
nothing changed but I FINALLY beat Samuel
cant focus on gameplay, raidens ass is too fat
The soundtrack alone is worth buying the game.
I was not able to pass the second boss, my IQ isn't high enough for this game. Amazing game, however, just like Bayonetta, Sekiro or Devil May Cry series, you'll need to buy a third or fourth controller.
Play this game. This is peak. Even if you aren't a metal gear fan, this can be played without context from metal gear solid. GIVE US METAL GEAR RISING REVENGEANCE 2
Holy shit do I love this game. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is literally the definition of badass.
The gameplay is where this game shines the most. Kojima is known for making absolutely crazy stories, ones that just are so far out yet still so amazing to experience. The whole story feels like a fever dream. The final boss, Senator Armstrong, is barely talked about for the entire game, shows up in the last 90 minutes, most of which being a cutscene, and still lands right on the dot of being an amazing antagonist and a stellar boss fight. Speaking of cutscenes, I actually loved how cinematic the game was. One of my favourite things. The soundtrack is one of, if not the best video game soundtrack ever. The entire game is a massive adrenaline rush. Especially for the final boss fight. The games first boss has you jumping from rocket to rocket as this crazy fast intense music plays. "RULES OF NATURE". The only thing I despise about this game is how short they made it. The main story can casually be beat in under 5 hours, but even so, those 5 hours will be the best time of your life.
10/10 game.
A memory broken! The truth goes unspoken! I've even forgotten my name!
But you know what I haven't forgotten? How ridiculously fun this game is! If you're a fan of high-octane action, over-the-top combat, and more one-liners than an entire season of an action TV show, then Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is for you.
Imagine a world where stealth is replaced by absolute destruction. Forget the usual sneaky tactics, this game lets you slice and dice your enemies in the most absurdly satisfying ways possible. You play as Raiden — the guy who used to be a cute, innocent little boy and now is a cyborg ninja that can cut through tanks like they’re made of butter. Not only do you slice through enemies, but you can also slice through time itself... okay, not literally, but it sure feels that way when you go into "blade mode" and slow down time to shred everything in your path.
The combat is so fast and fluid, it’s like a dance, but the kind of dance where you’re cutting your enemies into little pieces while making sarcastic quips. Every time I thought I had a handle on the combat, the game threw a new challenge at me, and I’d find myself saying things like, “Well, that’s not in the handbook,” as I dismembered another giant robot.
Oh, and the story? A wild ride! You’ll be dealing with corporations, robots, evil politicians, and a guy named Jetstream Sam (who, let’s be honest, sounds like he was made to be an anime villain). The twists come fast and thick, like the game’s incredible soundtrack that will have you headbanging in no time.
And let’s not forget the graphics. I mean, I’m not saying it’s photorealistic, but there are moments where you’ll wonder if the game is actually too gorgeous for its own good. The cityscapes, the detailed characters, and the insane robot designs are pure eye candy. I found myself pausing mid-fight just to admire the scenery—before going back to slicing dudes in half. Priorities.
But here’s the real kicker: there’s a moment where you’re fighting a giant robot and it’s almost like they’re daring you to take on this mechanical beast. You’re thinking, “This is it. This is where I die,” and then you slice through its face like it’s a warm knife through cake. Yes, you feel like a god, and it feels amazing.
In conclusion, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is like a rollercoaster of absurdity, awesome combat, and moments where you’ll shout, “How the hell did they think of this?!” It's so over-the-top that it loops right back around to being perfect. If you’re into cutting things in half, bad-ass cyborg ninjas, and a soundtrack that’ll have you ready to punch a wall (in a good way), then this game is a must-play.
10/10 — Would slice and dice again.
This game is amazing if you like Cyborg Ninja's game's but if you like me it's also another Chapter in the Metal Gear Solid world but as the Name says this is Jack the Ripper's story and it also give's us the chance to see why Solid Snake protected her from the moment she was Born.
This game has a pretty big learning curve. However, Once you get past that this game is an absolute blast.
Fun game, great combat, lots of replayability but short, finished it in like 5 hours. It's story is kinda bad but funny.
A really cool game was included with the soundtrack
I wish I could recommend this game; there's a lot of great style and substance to the combat, strong music, good bosses. Unfortunately its lackluster story won't get out of the way--even skipping as much as possible, on replay, there is constant whiplash as you're pulled out of gameplay to listen to a codec or skip a cutscene.
I'd love to see a sequel with less yappin' and more slashin'.
Just played the first few minutes and I am already sold. Would hack and slash again.
Game released over 10 years ago and I wish I had played it sooner.
The gameplay was solid, there were pointers where the camera was a little rough in large groups of enemies or tight areas but otherwise was absolutely manageable. There were a ton of fights and adjusting to the playstyle was very rewarding and fun. The bosses were cool and I loved that there were so many legitimate boss fights where I had to 1v1 a strong character and have to figure out their moves in order to win the fight.
Lastly, the soundtrack. This game has possibly the best soundtrack I have ever heard. The music added so much to the boss fights, it got me so hyped that I felt like I could run through a wall. Absolute masterpiece of music selection,
I would absolutely recommend this game.
This game's got it all. Over the top violence, awesome music, awesome gameplay, political commentary, a villain you realize is only wrong in his methods, cyborgs, a sense of humor, horrible experiments on children and you throw a Metal Gear in the first 20 minutes!
first time in ages i had a game night™, just like the good 'ol days before I GOT RESPONSIBILITIES!
I'm really glad i listened to my instincts and finally gave it a shot, i'm 21 years old and never got around to play this game when it was out for PS3. Well i'm glad i waited cause knowing me when i was young i wouldn't have paid attention, the story is refreshing in a way that i felt like i needed to do what the story was asking me to do, i felt motivated to see it too the end. The combat is unlike anything i have ever experienced before it has a certain mechanic that no game has ever done.
I would highly recommend this game to anyone that enjoys a good story, and spectacular combat 10/10
STANDIN IN, I REALIZE....
Gameplay 8/10
Soundtrack 10/10
Nanomachines, son 10/10
Overall 9/10
Great game and great mechanics. Just wish the camera wasn't so janky. Lost a lot of fights where a mastiff, raptor, or boss went near the border and I had to somehow parry when my camera kept resetting to default.
This is one of the most timeless masterpieces that keeps getting better and better every single day it passes since we were blessed by its release. Don't miss out on absolute bliss incarnate in game form. Get it, finish it, replay it, S rank it, and the experience will sear your soul forever.
This game's combat with parry/deflect mechanic make my snake solid again for the first time since Sekiro.
Doktor, turn off my Yuu Tejima inhibitors.
❖ The soundtrack is absolute cinema (god-tier).
❖ Raiden is a very well written character to relate with.
❖ The combat mechanic is pretty solid (I sucked at parrying = skill lssue).
❖ Each villains are memorable to this date (which is impressive).
❖ The skill tree is actually useful (to a extent).
❖ Slice and dice literally anything.
❖ 10/10: Would recommended anyone to play MGR: Revengeance.
Side note: I'll vote for a specific U.S. senator that can destroy social medias spewing lies and defamation. Amen.
Insane combat game play and an amazing story mode!
i know i only have 4 hours on steam, but ive beat this game like hundreds of times on xbox, and have a few hundred hours, really enjoy this game, and its my favorite metal gear game, very ahead of its time. if you are thinking about getting it you should, amazing game (also boob posters are in the game so peak)
good challenge with great combos and gameplay that rewards skill
A great action game that's annoyingly hampered by its questionable control scheme for parrying and the shoddy camera.
The camera has a mind of its own which I can only describe its behaviour as a slithering fucking snake across the screen, seriously ive looked up raidens ass more times then I can count, the last boss can be infuriating with this camera as you would sometimes miss parry opportunitys as the camera would rather face something else, leading you to get hit, mad annoying.
Besides that the games awesome one of platinums best games, the soundtrack is legendary, bosses are fun and memorable, plot is typical metal gear nonsense jacked to 11, the memes of this game are more popular than the game itself these days.
Game length is only like 7 hours long so a pretty short game by todays standards, the difficulty does offer some good challenge just on hard, very hard ramps it up with more cancer enemy placements for you to enjoy, and the hardest difficulty Revengeance mode is pretty much parry perfectly or end up in block stun or die, although this is also in your favour if you're good at parrying, you can pretty much melt enemies in Revengeance if you can perfect parry on que as it does so much damage compared to the other modes.
Took 10 hours of trying various guides online to get it to launch played for a bit and no it doesn't work again. unacceptable to charge money for this
Combat in this game is incredible, the story is peak. I would Raiden and his sexy cyborg heels.
One of the best games ive ever played, i love slicing up muscular men with a glowing red katana that an acquaintance of an acquaintance tried to stab me with, while blasting the best music ive ever heard, at volumes so high it isnt music anymore, rather a sound.
10/10 would recommend
Pros:
- The combat is a surprising twist on both the usual Metal Gear stealth formula and Platinum's Spectacle-fighter style, almost feeling at times like a prototype for Fromsoft's Sekiro while feeling more like a DMC title.
- Combos are fluid, the parry system is really fun to master, and the Blade Mode makes tearing through enemies an absolute blast.
- MOST enemies are really fun to fight, all having their own unique strategies and challenges to keep you busy.
- The soundtrack is sublime, between the more ambient tracks between fights to the pumping lyrical songs. Red Sun is peak boss music.
- On that note, the bosses are some of the best-designed fights in a hack-n-slash.
- The story is extremely over-the-top while still feeling genuine and compelling. Its repeated use of the term "memes" is both hilarious and thought-provoking. It will make you laugh one moment and have you deeply disturbed the next (especially during File 4's finale with the server room scene).
Cons
- Some enemies were very clearly meant to be faced one-on-one, but because this is a Ninja Gaiden-esque hack-n-slash said enemies tend to be put in groups. Gekkos are cool in one-on-ones but when there's two of them and/or a group of mook cyborgs it can get really annoying. Same with Mastiffs and those dinosaur guys I forgor the name of.
- While parrying is cool, having said parry be mapped to the default attack button with a flick input is... baffling, to say the least. You might want to keep up a combo chain before going into a parry, only to go INTO a parry way too early and get hit, completely ruining your groove.
- While Platinum titles are usually short by nature, MGR is SHOCKINGLY short, with only 8 main levels, some of which being really short transitional chapters and others being just a boss. So in reality there's only like... 4 full length levels? 6 if you count the Sam and Bladewolf chapters.
- VR missions suck.
YMMV
- The game does feature stealth sections if you wanna put up with them. Unfortunately I haven't played the other Metal Gear games (yes I'm missing a lot of story context shut up) but this is passable, and aside from a couple hostage situations (especially the one in File 5) the stealth was rarely an issue.
- For whatever reason the PC ver flat out lacks a framerate option. Which is fine for the most part since the game was made for 60fps and can hit that on most rigs, but if you're someone who likes their games over 60 you might be pissed. Not helping is the fact the game runs at 59fps for... some reason, which leads to microstutter.
- There's no way to view the inputs for attacks on the customize screen, meaning you have to go out of your way to pull up the help menu to see what you just unlocked.
- While the steam page specifically advertises the boss replay and cutscenes options, both of these are hidden behind doing the DLC levels, which can catch you off guard. Not helping is the fact that said levels, especially Sam's story, are extremely difficult compared to the base game.
Let er rip. Goated gameplay, goated music. Now i want to play the older ones.
First game that made me want to grind for 100% achievements, just 12 more achievements to go.
this game, it's absolutely perfect right down to the small things, some glitches here and there, i blame that on steam, but that aside, as i Devil May Cry fan i thought this game was completely different but to my surprise it feels a lot like Devil May Cry and that made it easy to learn, i recommend to anyone familiar with Fast Hack and Slash.
his game is an absolute masterpiece. I had never tried such an experience before and I believe that there will not be a similar game that contains a story depth that resemble this game due to the fact that it include some sensitive topics. Overall, the gameplay was distinguish, the soundtracks were overwhelmingly great and suits the scenes and the characters were beyond perfect.
best. game. ever. best. soundtrack. ever. best. best. ever. would kill mom for this game
One hell of a great time! All the characters are memorable and the game is incredible. The mechanics are easy to learn but hard to master. If you're on the fence about this game, just get it. You won't regret it.
can't play on fullscreen because my screen resolution is too high for this game
why is this an issue when its not for any other game even before 2013?
This game is just a fever dream, adrenaline junkie, meme generator that pumps adrenaline straight into your veins and is the embodiment of the phrase "F*** YEAH". This game is probably also one of the easier hack-and-slash type games out there, since the mechanics are quite simple: Light attack, heavy attack, dash light, dash heavy, items, and a block/parry. (Quick note about the parry for anyone wondering, you have to press forward on the control stick AND the light attack button AT THE SAME TIME. Forward on the control stick is also in the direction of the enemy, and parrying is doing that right as the enemy hits you, not before). Also, there is a bullet time mode called Blade Mode, which, once an enemy is flashing blue, allows you to cut the enemy to pieces (also another quick tip, you can use the right analogue stick to aim your cuts if you're having a hard time cutting the target areas for the Zandatsu, or the way you recover Blade Mode gauge and health).
Neither of us have the time to cover the story, but just know it's amazing, and the Codec calls add a ton to the story (another note is if you're going for the Codec achievement, use the Codec while close to an enemy to get a special Codec conversation. This is why I missed the achievement on my first playthrough even though I was actively looking for more Codec conversations).
Last is the extra content: The VR missions, and the DLC missions. First, the VR missions are fun.... So long you aren't going for gold. Going for gold can slingshot you through half the store, so it's not worthless, but IT IS NOT FUN. The times are so strict, you have to use guides on the internet if you want to keep your sanity. Or, you know, just do them for fun and not gold. That works too. One more thing about the VR missions is that there are 70 missions total, 20 you find hidden through the campaign, and 50 that are DLC missions. You have access to the DLC missions straight away, but the main 20 you will need to find in the main campaign missions on laptops. They aren't that hard to find, I managed to find like 17 by myself, only a few I had to use a guide for.
As for the two DLC missions, one has you play as Blade Wolf, the other as Jetstream Sam. Unfortunately, these missions are kinda lackluster. The story for them are fine, but the gameplay, and more importantly, the content, are kind of lacking with them. First, with Blade Wolf's story, it's really short. There are three sections to it; the start, which is an introduction to the gameplay changes in Blade Wolf's moveset, showing this is more of a stealth mission rather than a combat themed one, which can be fun at times, the second part, where Blade Wolf attempts an escape, which is the meat of the game, and then the end when you fight the boss. The boss is the best part of the story, since it's a very well done boss, but aside from that, there isn't too much with it.
Next is Jetstream Sam's story, and hoo boy, I might get people mad with this, but I don't really like it. It has the same problem with Blade Wolf's story, in that it's short, with again, three sections, the sewers, the main building, and then the Armstrong fight, but the gameplay is more like Raiden's, as an all out combat style rather than stealth. However, this is where the problems come in with two minor changes: One is that his block doesn't block all damage, meaning anytime you get hit while blocking, you will take some chip damage, which is somewhat fine, since at this point, he doesn't have his augmentations yet, so of course he won't be as strong, and this encourages players to learn the game more by perfecting their skill in parrying instead of blocking, but this is where the second problem emerges: The Taunt. Jetstream Sam has a unique move where he taunts the enemy, making them mad for a short while. When this happens, the enemies take and deal more damage. The problem? THE DLC IS BALLANCED AROUND THIS. If you don't taunt the enemies, the game will come to a crawl since the enemies are REALLY tanky, meaning you have to use the taunt to make them take any substantial damage, but since this also makes them more agressive, and the taunt animation takes a while, though I can't remember if you can cancel it. In summary, you either play while knocking on death's door, or by playing at an incredibly slow pace.
While I would say more, I realize I said more about the DLC than I did about the main game. Point is, it's good. Really good. Get it if you're a fan of Hack-and-Slash games, a Metal Gear fan, or just curious about the MEMES, THE DNA OF THE SOUL. You'll have fun with it.
recentlly just finished my first playthrough and its a great game. its a ton of fun just running around and cuting enemies.
i also think that this is a game that you should try even if you usally play other style of games because i usally just play euro truck simulator 2 and loved this game when i tried it for the first time not so long ago and rn its my favriot game ever by far.
