This is my second time trying Far Cry games (my first far cry game was far cry 3), quite disappointed they remove looting and skinning animation, but so far this game is really really fun I love it so much
It's an outstandingly good game until the last fifteen minutes where it becomes one of the worst.
This is my first and most action packed game I have played. The difficulty levels feature and the overall multiplayer feature make it very awesome. Highly recommended game.
The 'Remember Me' button on Ubisoft Connect doesn't work. I have to log in every time I want to play a game. It's really annoying.
main story was good side missions repetative the environment was gorgeous and the music was hella good so i give this game 8.5/10
After playing 19 hours, i can't play it anymore. The game wont start, already tried verify or start the game from ubisoft still wont work and start with administrator. Not gonna try reinstall tho to much waste of time.
The second best Far Cry game in the franchise, in my honest opinion.
The story, (For something from Ubisoft) is rather appealing, touching and genuine. You fall in sync with it after a while, and with each step you take to the endgame, the more excitement you build up.
Gameplay wise, the game is still at it's core, proper Far Cry. Gunplay feels amazing, although eventually you may get tired of using the weapons, as the arsenal may seem wide, but in reality, considering just how much shooting you will do, it isn't all that sizeable.
I'd call this the last, good, and last ever, proper Far Cry.
Worth every single penny.
This game has an explosive and sinister set up from the first scene and the story progresses well at the major points. In the mean time the gameplay is mostly linear and begins to get repetitive, however the gameplay can be somewhat broken up with fishing, hunting and stunt challenges. The villians are absolute psychopaths as is typical of the FC series and the devs have gone a great job illiciting their mental trauma through the acting and animation. The other NPCs range from basic drones to fleshed out interactive personalities with usually comical back stories. They also interact with each other using unique dialogue depending on who they're speaking with. The companion characters help to stave off the crushing isolation of solo gameplay and theyre actually very useful, each one having unique skills to compliment your preferred style.
Great game, smooth satisfying gunplay, unforseen ending. Glad I bought it.
The story seemed like it could be interesting and the combat was pretty fun, and worked well with keyboard and mouse. Shortly after reaching the open world though I realised the gameplay loop just wasn’t for me.
While the tutorial was cool and a well-written set-piece, the post-tutorial felt so disjointed from it and started awkwardly, with your character waking up and some guy immediately telling you that you’re starting the resistance now. Umm ok? Then within the first hour, I rescued 3 of the most generic NPCs who were taken hostage.
And no they weren’t together. This wasn’t one hostage situation. These were 3 separate rescue missions that all felt exactly the same. I thought “is this really what I’m going to be doing over and over again?”
Sad because I loved Far Cry 3 back in the day and I heard great things about the story, but this generic open world just doesn’t cut it in this day and age.
Also my game stayed running a good few minutes after quitting to desktop. My guess is this is Ubisoft trying to prevent refunds by having their launcher keep the game open in the background. I’m glad I noticed and force closed it.
Do not recommend even at 90% off. There are better sandbox shooters
I honestly avoided this game for a long, long time. When it first came out, there was a looooot of criticism. People didn't like the setting, the silent protagonist, the MTX (which is entirely avoidable), and the chaotic nature of the game. Sure, I get it, you can't go 15 feet without running into another fight (or three all at once), but in today's climate, this is 100% worth it when it's about $5 on sale. Farcry 3 will always be my favorite due to nostalgia, but this honestly is a better game in terms of polish and content. If you want to add a game to your backlog, you can't go wrong here.
Far Cry 5 is by far and wide one of my top five favorite games. It's pretty short for this genre of game, but all the characters are really interesting and the story is compelling. While New Dawn was completely unnecessary, the DLC for 6 - Collapse - added a new layer to the story that I absolutely adored. There are many heavy themes in this game like child abuse, manipulation, drug abuse/addiction, war, and domestic abuse. Despite all of that, it's still an amazing game that I've played at LEAST 20 times
This game definitely will stay the best in series. There are no need to activate towers like it was in FC3 and FC4. Skill tree and perks available while missing in FC6. Besides the best antagonist which has been chosen by God to save souls.
Still looks great in graphics and still satisfying to ride ATV across Hope County.
And Ubisoft added achievements so it worth to play it again.
Far Cry 5 – A Thrilling Open-World Shooter
Far Cry 5 delivers an engaging open-world experience set in Hope County, Montana, where players take on the fanatical Eden’s Gate cult, led by the charismatic yet terrifying Joseph Seed. The game offers fluid combat, dynamic AI, and a vast, beautifully crafted world filled with exciting missions and exploration. The resistance system adds depth to progression, and co-op multiplayer enhances replayability. While the story is gripping, some side missions can feel repetitive. Despite this, Far Cry 5 succeeds in delivering an action-packed adventure with strong storytelling and immersive gameplay.
Rating: 8.5/10
I love the game but can't stand the forced cinematic's every time you play. they drag on and on and even after you complete the game and start new game plus it still makes you sit through all of them again.
I was lost. Confused. A mere wanderer in a broken world. But then He spoke to me. Joseph. The Father. He showed me the truth. The world outside is corrupt, filled with sin and chaos. But here, in Eden’s Gate, we are free.
The outsiders call us a “cult”. They do not understand. They fight us, try to destroy what we’ve built. But they will see. They will all see. The Collapse is coming, and when it does, only the faithful will remain.
Join us, or be cleansed. The choice was never yours to begin with.
10/10, would spread the Father's word again.
The ending was underwhelming. A lot of the gameplay during main quests was forced and does not go with the character arc.
very cool game. however, plane controls are absolutely garbage. it auto-orients the plane so its hard to do much of anything in the air besides basic flying. I feel like both planes and cars should go faster, but that might be just me. it's a cool game and it's very pretty.
I'll start off saying that there are some major similarities to Assassin's Creed as far as gameplay is concerned. However, I will say that I've played the hell out of this game for about 3 years now; I can't help but come back to it time and time again. I've touched an Assassin's Creed game maybe once or twice in that span.
You're pitted against a cult which has taken over an entire region in the USA. There is a small resistance group in the area, but they need you, The Main Character, to help them take out the cult and its seemingly infinite wealth of money, weapons, and bodies.
My go-to weapon is the sniper rifle - there is nothing quite like hitting a precision headshot on a Peggie from hundreds of feet away. I also highly recommend making the Rocket Launcher your new side chick. If you blow up a silo or a helicopter or even one very unfortunate cult member, you'll feel amazing.
This is an intentional aspect of the game, I'm sure, but there's way too much direct eye contact from NPCs that get right up in your grill. If that ain't your thing, be prepared for a lot of it.
I will say there are a ton of characters in this game, none of whom I care about very much, save for my dog, bear, and cougar pals. Protect them at all costs.
If you want a game that is an utter timesink--I've literally spent more than a work week's worth of time on this game at this point--this is your game. I highly recommend it overall.
A Step Up, but Not Without Flaws
Far Cry 5 is a vast improvement over its predecessors, with better gunplay and a less repetitive structure. For context into value (I would say consider only on sale) - I poured just under 40 hours into the game, and completed the full storyline, all side quests, and most of the other challenges before I got bored.
That said, like the older titles in the series, it eventually started feeling repetitive. I pushed through to the end, but certainly had zero motivation to continue with New Game+. There is arcade mode, and several DLCs, which in theory could address that argument, but I was ready to move on to other titles.
Some other key standout negatives: The companions were a mixed bag - while I tried all of them, many suffered from frustrating AI behavior, often being more of a hindrance than a help. On top of that, I found car driving physics to be sluggish, and the wingsuit controls were downright horrendous - frustrating to get going on some of the Clutch Nixon challenges.
Despite its flaws, Far Cry 5 was still an enjoyable ride, just not one I’d go back to for a second round.
Worst part of this game? The redneck christianity music, worst kind of country music.
Cant believe music like this exist und people actually listen to this crap irl.
And Hurk, f*ck this dude. Stop bringing him back in every f*cking FarCry,
But otherwise; pretty solid FarCry game.
Not my favorite (3 is still the best), but damn close.
Best FarCry story. Good/interesting chars.
The map is boring tbh, no diversity. We have the 3 regions, but they all look the same.
I wish Ubisoft would bring something new to the table. Outstanding new.
Companions are nice to have (they had this feature already in Wildlands).
Didnt care for the fishing part, did it only one time for the bear companion.
But thats it, nothing really new.
I didn't expect much and was positively surprised. It's fun if you don't think about it too much. But it's all ruined by stuff despawning as soon as you look away. A vehicle, an npc, a body or even an encounter... You look away and it's gone. I smashed through a roadblock with my car and when I turned back to finish the job all that was left was some debris?? No vehicle, no enemies, nothing. Very frustrating and immersion breaking
You will know when you have found something great a feeling comes over you and you are compelled to share it with the steam community. This game is that kind of feeling it has a lot about it that pretty much makes it the pinnacle in the open world genre, I say without hesitation buy this game. The graphics are beautiful the mechanics are too and map is just vast (a lot to explore). The feeling you get when you climb up ladders or swim in the lake is wonderful. A piece of modern art is what games in this caliber are. Sure it is a ubisoft game and comes with the launcher but that is such a small deal, in this games case I'm sure you will overlook. Oh last thing you will see some pretty weird things on your journey (the cows made me smile) when you come across a dog befriend it as it is a great friend to have.
The best Far Cry game ever made. Had it come out in 2019 instead of 2018 it could have won game of the year. As it stands, it is a masterpiece with one small caveat; the hair geometry and texture is subpar at best. On the other hand, the acting is phenomenal. Too bad the protagonist is so notably and inexplicably silent. Ubisoft, if you're listening, use this game as your template and add a couple of new game-play elements here and there. Don't reinvent the wheel, make any drastic changes, or deviate from what has otherwise worked. Do this kind of game more often (and consistently), and your company might not go tits up in the next year.
I bought this game during a sale hoping for a new multiplayer game to play with my gf and its fun asf. First person shooter with lots to do and lives up to the farcry franchise.
-10 Needs Ubisoft Account
-10 Makes you play though an hour to get to co-op
-10 Can't skip anything
-10 Doesn't tell you anywhere that its only two-player coop
-10 Only bought this to play with friends. Can't play with friends
0/50
get drunk, get in car with mounted guns run people over and shoot them, get shoot with bliss bullet, gets kidnapped, gets away 10/10 would do again
While the graphics are great, the main story line is not really engaging. The gameplay mechanics are pretty ok, it is another generic Far Cry, nothing new. However, even after all this time from the release, the game is unplayable once you hit the chapter "ignorance is bliss". The cutscene that is supposed to trigger, somehow, just doesn't trigger. It is a well known bug that Ubisoft just won't fix. Their "solution" is to delete your saved game and start all over from the beginning of the game.
I played Far Cry 5 for about an hour, and it felt like every other Far Cry game before it. The series has seen only slight improvements over time. The first game was great for its time with a unique story, and while Far Cry 2 missed the mark, it was at least a bold step into the next generation of consoles. Far Cry 3 was a highlight, but since then, every entry has felt like a copy-paste job with minor tweaks—Far Cry 4 was essentially Far Cry 3 with a new setting and story.
Ubisoft plays it too safe. They don’t take risks, and Far Cry 5 gave me no “wow” factor. It felt too familiar, so I refunded it before I hit the two-hour mark. Maybe I should have given it more time, but nothing in that first hour convinced me it was worth it.
For those wondering, I played it on my Steam Deck, and it runs fine. You just need to disable the Uplay overlay and tweak some settings for better battery life.
Ubisoft really needs to stop rehashing the same formula. At this point, if you've played one Far Cry game, you've pretty much played them all.
By far (cry) one of the greatest games I've ever played.
Not only does the game feel very smooth and nice to play, the different options for weapons, fighting styles and companions make for a pretty customizable way of going through the story.
Then, the story, which was so incredibly good. The setup is good, there's a constant, uncanny vibe because of how devoted your enemies are.
I do now sadly have PTSD when it comes to Only You..
My first Far Cry game was Primal. When I checked trailer for Far Cry 5 I was amazed.
Moving from prehistoric to modern time, it just felt good. The vehicles, guns etc.
And till this day it's my favorite Far Cry.
The only thing I'm disappointed about, is how long it took to give us achievements on this platform.
I'd go for it right away, but since I completed this game like 5 times, I don't feel like playing it at this moment.
What a terrible app. Seriously, ubisoft needs to get rid of the app. It constantly delays enjoying a game.
replayed this game many times on console, absolutely love this game. <3
It's a Far cry game. You can expect to do the same things as the previous two games although the map is be a bit larger this time around. Fun guns, lots of quests and side activities and a ton of characters to meet. No hunting animals for rare ingredients though which is a bummer, at least they replaced it with fishing which is also fun in its own way.
The story seems to be a more central element in this one which for me is a bad thing. Just let me take over bases and do some side quests. I don't want to get dragged across the map and watch ten minutes of cut scenes about some dude wanting to kill me and ramble on some random mumbo jumbo about humanity or something.
I have a lot of nostalgia for this game. co op is really fun. if you like far cry, you'll like this. in my opinion its one of the last good far cry games. new dawn has too many rpg mechanics and I've heard nothing but bad things about far cry 6. not as good as far cry 3 but its still pretty fun.
Best dumb fun you can have with a good friend, buy it for coop, biggest minus, story is super weak!
The best thing about Far Cry 5 is the theme—the atmosphere, the villain, and the scenery are fantastic. The world looks incredible, and the open-world freedom with all kinds of vehicles is great. But once you scratch beneath the surface, the game quickly turns into the same thing over and over again.
The story? Forgettable. The main villain is cool, charming, and well-designed, but everything else fades into the background. The game is best played stealthily, which is why I ran with a silenced sniper and shotgun. Sadly, the companion system ruins stealth completely. They’re more of a nuisance than a help, breaking mechanics, making noise, and just generally being useless—I ditched them as soon as I could.
What’s actually fun? Stashes and outposts. The little puzzle-based treasure hunts are super creative, offering parkour, gliding, and other fun challenges. Clearing enemy camps through stealth is also enjoyable, but there aren’t enough of them.
Progression-wise, leveling up feels pointless. You get all the useful perks early on, and the rest are just filler. Worse yet, resistance progress means nothing—you can take over the whole map, but enemies never let up. They still spawn everywhere, sometimes instantly. I once had an absurd moment on a bridge where enemies kept respawning under and on top of it, creating an endless firefight that made zero sense.
Now, the NPCs… My God, the NPCs.
This game has some of the worst AI I’ve ever seen in a game. Enemies are brain-dead but have inhuman aim at the same time. One second, they’re standing in the open, letting me pick them off one by one. The next second, they’re sniping me from miles away with a pistol.
Then there are civilians. My God, the civilians. These people are suicidal. They walk into enemy fire, stand in front of moving vehicles, and react to danger in the dumbest ways possible. If I had a dollar for every time an NPC ran towards an explosion instead of away, I’d have bought the entire game three times over.
But the worst offenders? Friendly NPCs. These people are not your friends. They will block your movement, steal your vehicle, and ruin stealth missions by loudly announcing their presence to enemies. I've had allies kill themselves with their own grenades, drive into rivers for no reason, and randomly shoot at nothing, triggering enemy reinforcements. It’s like they’re working against you.
At least the game runs well—solid 50-60 FPS on high settings, and the visuals are fantastic.
At the end of the day, Far Cry 5 is just another good-looking, brainless, repetitive shooter. You can buy the best weapons in 3 hours, progression is pointless, and the game doesn’t evolve much from start to finish. It’s fun in short bursts but gets stale fast. If you want to have several hours of fun go for it when it's on sale... this thing is not worth the full price by any means.
4/10 – Gorgeous but shallow, with NPCs so dumb they belong in a comedy game.
Not sure why this game is marked unsupported for steam deck but it IS playable. It had an entertaining storyline and good graphics.
Why was it so bloated !! One of those games where I "forced" myself to play all the boring parts to get to the decent ones. This is a huge letdown after the fourth and especially the third that are among my favorites games. The narrative is completely thrown out of the window in favor of the sandbox. This game felt like it wanted to waste my time, always giving just enough crumbs of gameplay so that I don't drop it. If playing as a camera holding a gun with no name, no past, no future, no voice, not a shred of emotions, fighting vilains that are at best forgetable in a sandbox that is stupidly tedious to play through, is something that you enjoy then maybe this is the game for you.
It really is a fun game, but (like a lot of Ubisoft games) it has its bugs, unnecessary grind, and questionable design choices. In terms of the FarCry series, its one of the better ones, and its story alone is worth the playthrough!
Far Cry 5 is one of the best games in the series. The environment, the villain, and the story are pretty good. The side quests and characters are also quite fun.
Achievements
Required time: 65-75 hours
Difficulty (in my opinion): 6 out of 10
DLCs required for 100%?: Yes, 3 (Lost on Mars, Hours of Darkness, Dead Living Zombies)
Getting 100% of the achievements is also quite varied and not too grindy. The main game itself makes up about 40-50% of the time needed for 100%, and you only have to learn about half of the skills and collect a small portion of the collectibles. So, it doesn’t overstay its welcome. The game includes a few co-op achievements, but they can be completed quickly with a partner. There aren't any really missable achievements. So you can take your time and enjoy the game at your own pace.
The three DLCs are more time-consuming, though only the last one (Dead Living Zombies) presents a medium-level challenge. There’s also an annoying achievement requiring you to kill 5000 zombies... but at least there's a trick to do it AFK.
Finally, you need to replay the main game in New Game+ on the hardest difficulty. That might sound tough, but if you use the Mars DLC weapons, you can basically melt every enemy’s face off. :-P Apart from a few sections where you're stuck with a preset loadout, the difficulty becomes trivial.
I have only played solo and I find this game amazing. The story is good, the way the game flows vs story progression is extremely lax. I wish it was a cross-platform game. I am still waiting for a good game to come out that is truly cross-platform. I am going to obtain the whole series and play each one.
If u want to play it, buy it in a sale!
its doin the same over and over again.
take a base there.
free some hostages.
bring something back.
even if u like to do these things there are other games that done it better (ghost recon wildlands)
i loved the setting with the cult. but every character is like a puppet and there isnt someone u love or hate.
in Farcry 3 u had a better villan and ur character wasnt some dude with no name and no voice.
A great Far Cry game with an interesting plot and creative antagonists. I love the side characters and hired guns with their own missions. There is always something to do; whether it be story, collectibles, destroying vehicles, clearing outposts or racing against time.
Welcome to Hope County: Guns, Cults, and Chao. Montana: Where the forests are beautiful, the guns are plentiful, and cult leaders are somehow even weirder than in Florida. Far Cry 5 brings chaos, mayhem, and yes—Steam Achievements! (Finally, Ubisoft—took you long enough!)

Conclusion:
Far Cry 5 masterfully blends its chaotic sandbox gameplay with a dark, intriguing story set in a breathtaking open-world environment. With engaging villains, tight controls, and an endless supply of “only-in-Far-Cry” moments, it’s an excellent entry in the series. Whether you’re a longtime fan or a newcomer, Hope County is a wild ride worth taking.
Combat is fun, and the world is full of things to do. Co-op makes it even better!
This game was fun. It is not the best in the series, nor is it the worst, but man do I hate having to follow a character for 10 minutes while they dump their childhood traumas on me (looking at you Jess). Jess is the most egregious case, but there will be multiple times where you have to follow a character and I swear Ubisoft just does this to extend playtime. And why the fuck am I faster than them if we are meant to be walking together. Its so annoying to have to adjust my pace to theirs especially due to how slowly they fucking walk. But anyways that is honestly my only very big annoyance with this game and with a lot of Ubisoft games actually, but besides that, its a very solid entry in the franchise. All 4 villains are fantastically portrayed and it really is a shame that they decided to go with a silent protagonist, some banter between dep and John would've been fun to listen to, something in similar fashion to what we had between Ajay and Pagan in FC4. I wish I could say the same about the allies we get, but I already forgot all of their names except for Jess, Hurk and the 3 fucking animals. Barely any of them are memorable and the allies that are important to the story, some of them you almost never get to see them as the story progresses. Also Montana is beautiful. Not in the podium but at least top 4 when it comes to Far Cry games.
Time for DLCs. Hours of Darkness, Lost on Mars and Dead Living Zombies are the only content expansions for Far Cry 5. The deluxe pack just gives you vehicles/weapons to use in the main campaign. As for the three big expansions, Hours of Darkness and Lost on Mars are the only ones worth checking out. Dead Living Zombies is a waste of time and getting the achievement for 5000 zombie kills was mind numbing.
7/10
this is the 5th time I have played it - what I like about it is that there is a ending to it, would recommend it to all that like a first person game that has a lot of action to it.
Overall game seems pretty fun. I spent a lot of time in it. Was enjoying myself until I got to the ending. That's probably the dumbest boss fight I've ever seen. All the hype and the desire to struggle the main villian, leading up to... that. What a waste of time.
Ultimate Hell Yeah Simulator
Imagine you’re sitting there fishing in a peaceful lake, drinking a beer with some chill music in the background, and suddenly a bear just fucking mauls you. That’s this game, beauty mixed with chaos. A stunning landscape where you can hunt mystical LSD bears with helicopter missiles. Missions range from running over deer for roadkill meat to saving a sheriff from some MK-Ultra, other-dimensional brainwashing. It’s a proper redneck simulator with some insane villains, maybe not as iconic as Far Cry 3's Vaas, but still incredibly memorable. Especially Faith, whose dreamlike sequences give me IRL fever dreams.
However, this game has a huge amount of issues, it’s not a good game. In fact, it’s buggy, the AI is horrible, and stealth is borderline useless when the game suddenly decides you’ve been spotted. And why does a single-player game have microtransactions? If Ubisoft had spent as much time and money fixing the game instead of trying to turn it into a Garry’s Mod clone with recycled assets and DLCs so bad they make you want to uninstall, it could have been something great. Then there’s Arcade mode, somehow even worse, with an achievement for playing five Arcade Hero maps, which is hilarious when 95% of them just crash the game.
There are so many things wrong with Far Cry 5, but that’s the thing, it’s still really fun. And isn’t that what Far Cry is supposed to be? Ultimately, it comes down to what you want. If you’re looking for great storytelling, go play Far Cry 3. But if you just want to lose yourself in a beautifully broken sandbox of explosions, cultists, and wildlife that actively hates you, this is exactly what you need.
By the time my wife and I got to the ending in our coop game, we had only started feeling the monotony set in. We enjoyed the chaos and mayhem, don't get me wrong! When the final mission was upon us, we were excited that all we had fought for over the last couple dozen hours was finally going to come to fruition.
Then we experienced the ending. Yep. Glad we're done with this game. Good riddance.
