Wont launch, Forces Ubisoft app to be open to play. thumbs down
8.5/10. This game really surprised me with how fun and fresh it is. The melee combat and pets are especially good. For me this game is 5x times better than Far Cry 5.
unique experience for a far cry game. If you like an easy, well detailed and short game, this is for you.
i played this game with low expectations but extremely surprised , almost everything in this game are perfect
graphic - animals and humans design -animations - combat system ( many times better compare with games like horizon zero dawn )
nights are dangerous and full of terrors with beasts
missions and side ones are beautiful
every elements are great in it
I felt the primitive time. 92/100
buy and enjoy
this is for sure one of my favorite Far Cry games of all time with stuff like not being able to use guns (since yk its the stone ages) I love the combat system in which my main weapon was for sure the two handed club, the story is great with the Wenja clan rising up from the ashes by our main character Takkar facing foes such as the Udam clan and if you wanna know more just play the game. Great job ubisoft on making this masterpiece of a game 9/10
Overall the game was good. Good graphics, game play was good. Duration of game was excellent as it took me approx 83hrs of game play to beat the game. The only issue with the game I found was the story was a little lacking. Would recommend a go if you like far cry style games as this one was unique.
I was hesitant to play this game, but in hindsight, I don't know why - it was amazing!
I love the stoneage theme, the combat was engrossing, and the world realism was incredibly believable.
I completed all the main missions, upgraded all the weapons, tamed/hunted all the beasts (including rare ones); this is the closest to 100%-ing a game I have ever been.
I have previously played Far Cry 4, Far Cry 5 & New Dawn, and I was unsure if this game would be worth it or not. I was worried that the lack of guns and vehicles would be too different, but this is still fundamentally a far cry game - albeit with scarcer ammo. It still has the similiar mechanics and game concepts of a far cry game. Instead of a car, you can ride upon a battle scarred cave bear you've tamed, wielding a spear as you charge into a clan of Udam!
Fire plays an important role in this game, particularly when you are weaker: it can burn enemies or frighten them off (some animals at least), light up dark caves, shoot flaming arrows - the fire propagates naturally through the game world - it's just so dam good!
The enemies and 2 main enemy tribes are comprehensible and diverse, and fit within the time period. The graphics are still quite beautiful, even after all these years (I played on 1440p Ultra settings).
I regret not playing this game earlier - a true masterpiece of a game.
Honestly - this is the best stoneage type game I've ever played, and makes me more personally interested in the paleolithic, mesolithic and neolithic time eras!
10/10 from me.
I've played every Far Cry game since 3, so I don't know what made me skip Far Cry Primal. I seem to recall a lot of bad reviews, and I'm sure if you'd told me "Imagine playing an entire Far Cry game with just the bow and melee" that would have sounded very unappealing. I think it must have mostly been bad reviews though. And I should have known better.
Far Cry Primal is the most fun I've had with a Far Cry game since 4, maybe even since 3. Forget all that nonsense about playing a whole Far Cry game with a bow. That sounds terrible because you're remembering how trash it is trying to kill guys with guns with a bow when they know you're coming. In this game no one has anything more advanced than the bow, most have spears and clubs, and it all works really well.
Let's start with the story. Far Cry is famous for its bad guys (Vaas and Pagan Min being the best, Joseph Seed being okay, and whoever Giancarlo Esposito was playing in 6 being absolute dogcrap. We don't even speak of the atrocity that was New Dawn.) Unlike those other entries, Far Cry Primal doesn't rely on a really compelling big bad, because it's a lot less adversarial than the others. It does have 2 separate "big bads," but there's not nearly as much back and forth as the other games (and that's actually a great thing- I'll get to that.) Primal plays a bit more like a survival game, although it really isn't (you don't have to build shelters and eat and drink and all that). But you're part of a fledgling tribe stepping into a vast wilderness filled with beasts and monsters and psychos, and it feels a lot more like staying alive and keeping your people alive than a series of covert ops building toward eventually taking down the big bad, even though that's technically what it comes down to. What really supports all that is the atmosphere of the game, which they absolutely nailed.
Okay, so what about the gameplay? First, this one is a little more challenging than the other Far Cry games, which are infamous for being way too easy, and I did play through most of this on the highest non-hardcore level. But I died like, A LOT, and stealth was absolutely essential most of the time. Unlike a regular Far Cry game where you can just get a couple of good automatics and then gun your way through basically anything, you're going to have to think and be a lot more precise in combat in Primal, because there is no "spray and pray." You either have to put a carefully aimed arrow into someone, or a carefully aimed spear, or you need to get right up in their faces and bash them with a club. (Speaking of which, THE SPEAR IS LIFE. Upgrade your spears ASAP and use them as much as you can. A thrown spear is the most powerful weapon in the game by orders of magnitude.) The level design is mostly great though- extremely varied, although some of the bases are so difficult to infiltrate it's crazy.
What about other Far Cry-isms? Well, crafting is EVERYTHING in Primal. Even better, it actually makes sense. You hunt animals and collect resources to upgrade your weapons and carrying capacity because of course you do. What else would they be made of in the stone age? There's a lot of that, and it's good. You also hunt and collect to upgrade your village as you recruit more tribesmen. It's a really good use of the resources, better than any other Far Cry game.
There are a couple sequences right in the beginning of the game where they frustratingly take away your control of the character to make you watch cut scenes that you could have easily played out, but after what's basically a 2-part prologue that doesn't happen again. There are going to be some familiar drug sequence vision quests, but they're relatively light and not nearly as long or obnoxious as in most of the other games, and they actually tie directly to the main plot.
Okay, let's talk about getting captured. We all know the Far Cry writing staff is absolutely incompetent at storytelling and have no idea how to move a plot forward without having your character captured repeatedly. 5 was of course the worst offender with at least 10 times you lose control of your character to be auto-captured. Well, I have some great news. No, you do still get captured in Primal, but it only happens twice the entire game, and the sequences aren't very long or frustrating. This was the best experience I've had in a Far Cry game vis a vis being forced into stupid auto-capture scenarios.
In terms of quality of life, you can hold a lot of resources, and you even get little deliveries of extra resources to your village that you can access everywhere across the map to replenish. There are spawn points you can unlock all over the map, so you rarely get thrown too far away if you get killed. There are also a lot of fast travel points once you unlock them. You're going to be doing a lot of picking up arrows and thrown spears from the corpses you've slain, as well as the usual looting bodies, so good news! Unlike other iterations, when you kill the last bad guy at a base or other control point (and it gives you that slow motion final kill and maybe a cutscene), once you're returned to play nothing has changed, so all the corpses are still there to be looted. There aren't any towers to climb, which is a bit of a shame, but makes sense in the context. Instead you basically have mini-bases: bonfires with a cadre of guards, where you kill the guards and light the bonfire and it becomes a fast travel point for you.
Alright, on to the bad news. The two big boss fights are terrible. I mean just awful. One of them has a very silly mechanic to deal damage that has to be done perfectly, and at higher difficulties the enemies are programmed to basically avoid the mechanics, making it nearly impossible to do, and not even a tiny bit fun even when you succeed. The other one the enemy is just a nearly-invincible tank, and you'll need to go in with all your weapon-making resources because you're going to spend at least half an hour hitting the boss like 500 times to slowly whittle away the hit points 0.2% at a time. It does give you a flashing indicator when you do damage, which is good because like I said, you're doing so little each hit you couldn't tell otherwise. So the bosses suck, but most of the rest of the game is good.
One other complaint I had is that as you progress the story the game will automatically crank up the difficulty on you. Hitting certain milestones just basically causes all the enemies and challenges to level up. This is fine in principle, but playing on harder difficulties by the end it just makes every enemy automatically detect you instantly and all have perfect vision and aim all the time, plus doing a lot of damage, but pairing that with them all taking at least 3 arrows to kill, and some as many as 7 to 8. I also encountered a few what I assume are bugs, but only in the late game after it had leveled up for the last time. Some enemies became unaccountably invincible, like a random archer I shot with more than 20 arrows before I gave up on trying to kill him despite the fact that he was very successfully trying to kill me back. Other times I'd put spears directly center-of-mass through enemies, throws that would have hit 100% of the time earlier in the game, but now 3 perfect throws in a row went right through the enemy without dealing damage. Anyway, if the cranked up difficulty gets too annoying, you can literally just pause at any point in the game and alter the difficulty, which was a nice option to have.
I did have some late-game complaints with the story, but those would be very spoiler-ish, so I'll leave them out. They're relatively minor gripes in the grand scheme of things, but they forced my character to act a certain way toward enemies that was just ridiculous and stupid, and it annoyed me.
Overall this is a great Far Cry game, and I highly recommend it. If only they were still making them this quality.
Ya know, I played far cry 5 before this, practically back to back. Bad idea. However, with that in mind, I still enjoyed the Ubislop experience. Not the most fun game ever, but the immersion is a pretty nice change of pace compared to the guns guns done typical far cry game. Not amazing, but worth a fair try. A shorter game with some quirks, but still fun most of the time. 6.5/10
This is a basic First person Killing game with a great twist. Your a Caveman 10,000 BC using rudimentary weapons to kill animals and enemy tribes. You do missions to save your brethren including NPC that give you crafting recipes and Skills to use. You also be come beast master taming and using animals. eventually you can ride some of them, As your camp grows upgrade village huts (no this is not a building type survival game). The visuals are beautifully rendered. Combat is Basic but hey, YOUR A CAVEMAN !!
I am enjoying this a lot as it's a great way to relax at the end of the day and not have to work whats left of my brain to death. Game is 8 yrs old but I can see me playing it over and over while increasing difficulty.
good game. Great setting and fun game play, underrated. Would recommend to anyone.
Although is a pretty old game, in my oppinion its worth buying.
It's innovative gameplay makes this game never get old, and it has a pretty long gametime.
You unga and you bunga.
Great game with good graphics, considering it's technically "old".
Honestly, I enjoyed it. I'm not familiar with the Far Cry series (they're on my "To-Do list"), but I enjoyed Horizon Zero Dawn and wanted a "primitive" type explorer game to try. While this is definitely no HZD, it did become a good zone-out game.
If you enjoyed the exploration and collection aspects of Assassin's Creed, Saboteur, and other similar games then this may be up your alley. Traveling from spot to spot and clearing areas became a good wind-down for me after a hard day.
I will say though...I was initially surprised by how populated the world was! While going from one place to another, you get stopped constantly by wild animals and enemy tribe warriors. Trying to get basic quests or objectives done sometimes feels like you are hurtling yourself face-first through an active battle field, with screams of the dying, roars of animals, and sounds of combat all around you, rather than scouting through the wilderness.
This is a great game where you can tame animals (beasts), which is very cool and really helpful when it comes to hunting and roaming in the wilderness. Love the story too! Never ending searching for resources for upgrades and crafting, which is fun and it allows you to explore the map.
Holy crap I am so booreeedddd.
It's the same FarCry recipe but since you're a literal caveman you get about a fifth of the tools you'd normally have to, and this might blow your mind:
Hunt, clear camps, climb towers, accidentally fall of cliffs, and fail to pay attention and get 1-shotted by a bear.
I'd pay maybe $10 bucks for this but even then I'd only recommend if you're *really* into cavemen for whatever reason. Probably easier just to replay Farcry 3 with melee weapons and the bow.
Absolute peak unga bunga game design. 10/10 pet collecting mini game, with 11/10 head pats.
Best caveman simulator.
Never played a Far Cry game before. Scenery is pretty, playing a prehistoric character is interesting I guess and riding sabretooth tigers and mammoths is cool, but there's not too much innovation with the weapons which I suppose is to be expected. The part where it has to load Ubisoft Connect in order to to work is beyond cringe, and has inspired me to work more overtime and spend my days off outdoors, so I don't have to put up with DRM nonsense.
Skyrim is better and so is the latest Tomb Raider game. 3/10.
i just like the way the game was done its well made good graphics good story bad company though
It is very bad that i can't choose language in game menu. Can't understand Russian language and here is not way to change it. This is worst thing in the game.
Only by on sale, kinda dogbutt compared to any other Far Cry. Amazing concept, executed poorly, and does not hold up to Far Cry 3 or the modern games.
it's not a bad game, but all the previous far cry games are better. i recommend you play those instead. the only people i can recommend far cry primal to are far cry fans who really enjoy the formula, and want a relatively shorter game to sink a few days into. but if you're looking for a great game and have no loyalty to the far cry franchise, skip this one and play 4 instead.
i do reserve some praise for this game in its setting. i appreciate the prehistoric atmosphere, and the fact that ubisoft invented a complete artificial language just for this game is impressive. there's also a lot of nice world details that's exciting to come across, like animals fighting each other or poor enemies falling prey to wild beasts.
but that's where all my praise ends. truthfully, this game feels like a far cry 4 clone without the wingsuit or automatic weapons (even the map is ripped off from 4). moreover, while it felt like ubisoft tried to encourage players to think outside the box (as opposed to blasting everyone with an assault rifle), their execution falls very flat. most of the game was me being frustrated over minor details. it really felt like ubisoft dropped the far cry formula into a prehistoric setting without ironing out the rough discrepancies between the two (in all honesty, this is probably exactly what happened).
I liked this Far cry game as i did like half of the side quests and it did not feel like it is rinse and repeat. The ending was kinda wack tho. But i really enjoyed the gameplay.
Liked "The Flintstones" as a kid, but found the massive number of anachronisms to be jarring and overwhelming? Here's your chance to get your inner caveman on in an environment that's a bit more realistic. Mind you, the game is set well before recorded history... so you can assume there's rather a lot of "looks good/sounds good/probably good" stuff here. The usual Far Cry mechanisms are in place - you have to climb a bunch of radio towers to unlock... no wait, it's all bonfires this go around, your animal buddies are still buddies (AND WHO DOESN'T WANT A SMILODON FOR A PAL!?! HECK YEAH!), and Herk returns and plays to form as The Man Too Dumb To Survive... and yet, here he is in all his prehistoric glory. So off you go - go kill things and take their stuff. Go kill other prehistoric dudes and dudettes and take THEIR stuff. Don't overthink it, just enjoy it.
I hate this piece of work Ubisoft and its crapy launcher. I didn't pay this game on steam just to waste my time, energy and nerve to god ubisoft not working piece of ubisoft launcher to deal with. Why would you even sell this game if you are going to refer me to an other platform in the first place. BTW you can't play offline. Even tho this is a single player game. This sole reason is why people go pirate. Just to get my email and spam me your worthless piece of ubisoft, you are making gaming experience tedious. Good ubisoft job.
Far Cry Primal is a refreshing take on the series, throwing you into a beautifully crafted Stone Age world. The animal taming and survival mechanics are fun, but the story is short and gameplay can feel repetitive after a while. If you’re into prehistoric vibes and don’t mind a slower pace, it’s definitely worth checking out!
love taming beasts and fighting beasts hope to find games like far cry primal this before history civlization is cool
I really enjoyed playing this game and I completed it. Really unique game, many cool upgrades, beasts and skills. I like primal / survival games, and this game was perfect. Very interesting story, many things to do and to explore, brutal fights, hunting and much more. Totally will play again in the future.
The most underrated Far Cry work.
Also, the last decent Far Cry Ubisoft made.
Please recall the blueprint you've drawn in the ending part of story mode.
It takes only 16 Giga-Byte to provide such a marvellous visual effect. Never out-dated graphic art in 2024 tho.
Perfect performance on Steam Deck, smooth and stable 60 fps experience with nice battery usage balance.
Definitely 9.5 out of 10.
Far Cry Primal is one of the most unique entries in the Far Cry series and an absolute must-play if you're looking for something fresh yet familiar. While previous games focused on modern warfare, guns, and explosive action, Primal takes us back to the Stone Age, offering an immersive and beautifully brutal experience that stands out from the rest of the series.
The first thing you’ll notice is the complete absence of guns or vehicles, but don’t let that deter you. The combat system is reimagined with primitive weapons like spears, bows, and clubs, and it’s every bit as satisfying—if not more so—than firing off machine guns in Far Cry 3 or 4. Instead of sniping enemies with a scoped rifle, you’ll master the art of stealth, animal taming, and crafting to survive the wild, unforgiving world of Oros.
Speaking of Oros, the world is stunning. Ubisoft has always excelled at crafting vibrant open worlds, but Primal’s prehistoric setting elevates the atmosphere to a whole new level. From lush forests and snow-covered mountains to deadly swamps, every inch of the map feels alive. You’ll often pause just to soak in the sceneries, only to be startled moments later by a roaring sabretooth or a mammoth herd charging nearby. The game makes you feel like a part of nature, and it’s a massive departure from the series’ reliance on modern technology.
One of the standout additions is the beast taming system. Early on, you’ll gain the ability to tame wild animals, which becomes one of the most rewarding and dynamic mechanics in the game. You can call on wolves, bears, leopards, and even a majestic sabretooth tiger to fight by your side. Each animal companion has unique abilities, like scouting for enemies, hunting wildlife, or charging straight into combat. It feels like a game-changer, and once you get a loyal beast watching your back, it’s hard to imagine going without it.
Crafting, which has always been a key feature in Far Cry, also gets a significant upgrade. In Primal, you rely heavily on resource gathering to craft weapons, tools, and upgrades for your gear. Since the Stone Age lacks shops or vendors, everything you need—arrows, traps, and healing items—must be crafted on the go. It adds to the immersion and survival aspect, making you feel connected to the land and its resources.
The village-building system is another great addition. As you progress, you’ll find and recruit survivors to join your tribe, and your village evolves over time. Upgrading huts and gathering rare materials unlocks new abilities, weapons, and perks, giving a real sense of progress. It’s not just about fighting for survival; it’s about building a home and leading a community, which adds more emotional weight to the game.
The story might not be as character-driven as Far Cry 3’s Vaas or Far Cry 4’s Pagan Min, but it works well for the setting. You’re Takkar, a hunter fighting to unite the Wenja tribe while facing rival clans and the constant dangers of the wild. While it lacks the over-the-top villains of previous games, the raw and primal theme makes up for it. Instead of flashy cutscenes, you’re treated to the brutal simplicity of Stone Age life, where survival is the ultimate goal.
Overall, Far Cry Primal takes a bold step in a new direction for the series and delivers something memorable. The lack of guns and vehicles might scare off some players initially, but the game's beast taming, expanded crafting, and stunning prehistoric setting make it incredibly refreshing. If you’re a fan of the Far Cry series or open-world games in general, this is absolutely worth playing. It’s not just another Far Cry—it’s an adventure into a forgotten age, one that’s as beautiful as it is dangerous.
I first played this game when I was around 8, I absolutely loved it! Fast forward a few years, still love this game. The graphics are amazing! The story itself, the missions, the freedom! Everything is amazing. Totally recommend!
Honestly one of my favorite Far Cry games. I love the setting, skills development and the whole atmosphere in-general. There is a big hope to get achievements soon since Ubisoft has been adding achievements to the older games like Assassin's Creed, Ghost Recon and some others. Concluding this review with an honest opinion of mine that definitely buy this game when on sale.
I think it´s a good game, but you will notice it´s age. There will be some glitches like getting stuck or being killed for no reason ext. Balancing is also i bit bad, almost the whole game (on hard mode) is everyone just being a glass cannon that can get one shot. Animations are also very long (tip you can turn some repetitive ones off in settings). Even though i enjoyed playing it and it's worth checking it out.
Far Cry Primal takes a bold step back in time, immersing you in the prehistoric world. The open-world gameplay is still thrilling, with the unique twist of using only primitive tools, weapons, and animal companions. While the story is a bit basic, the vast landscapes and tactical combat make it an enjoyable adventure. Hunting, crafting, and conquering rival tribes provide hours of fun, though it lacks the depth of some other entries in the series. A refreshing change for fans of survival and action!
One of the most entertaining video games I've played and finished multiple times. Unique and very enjoyable. I recommend it to people who enjoy Far Cry games and are interested in prehistory, not for the historical accuracy, but for the experience.
One of my favorite games of all time. I'm a sucker for paleolithic stories, and this one does not disappoint. There's not many games that feature this setting, and Far Cry Primal is at the top of the list in terms of gameplay and attention to detail. From the artwork to the dialogue (I think I remember reading they used Proto-Indo-European), this game does a phenomenal job of immersion. It was the first game I got 100% achievements on back when I played it on the Xbox. My only complaint would be the lack of achievements for the Steam version.
I was looking forward to playing this game, but it's so lame - aka boring. Plus, if you are not in the mood for the mission you wandered into, game won't let you escape a mission to do something else. THIS IS A GAME DEVELOPERS MAJOR ERROR. I tried the owl guide mission several times and failed, and with NO WAY to get OUT of the mission, I quit. When I went back into the game, I was STILL in that CRAPPY MISSION and DID NOT HAVE ANY OTHER OPTIONS, couldn't look at map, couldn't open inventory... so that RENDERS this GAME - LAME. Unfortunately, I am UNINSTALLING & FORGETTING ABOUT THIS BS GAME.
i like this game but could have a longer story line
What a game! a mesmerizing stone age adventure, kind of regretting skipping this game before. It was sitting idle on my Steam library for months after months.
Main thing i loved about this game was the gameplay & environment. Stone age mechanics like hunting, exploring & collecting the material for crafting was so much engaging, 60% time i was literally doing this. No modern guns like sniper, lmg, no grenades. Only prehistoric era weapons 😂 the real challenge to adapt the tactics.
Game's graphics was breathtaking. Night time was genuinely scary & beautiful at the same time, attention to detail was quite good enough.
Unfortunately, the story is lackluster and doesn't quite engage as much as the gameplay, kind of 'meh' feels sleepy. May be due to stone age era with non-english language? If you care about story, just skip it. Otherwise for the immersive gameplay & stunning visuals must give it a try.
Great game, super fun. More hours then shown for some reason.
Wanted to get a nostalgic dopamine hit so I reinstalled. Then I remembered why I uninstalled.
UBIsoft as is common knowledge, their launcher, DRM.
All of it is F---ing garbage.
UBI connect shows up to gatekeep.
Remembered an email and password, worked,
Then asks for the CD key my dumb--- can't find through steam anymore and culminates into saying this game is tied to a diff account and can't launch?
Sure, checks out. No ---- it's registered, we both know that. It's registered to me in fact.
From steam, where I bought it, where I've owned it, where I find it when I want to play it.
Won't even let me try a diff login. Who doesn't have four or five emails anymore?
(If you don't you're doing it wrong.)
Locks me out after first try, (correct accnt fyi, just no key, closed out, reloaded, to see what happens.) saying hit up customer service.
I'm logged into my steam account, it's obviously tied in and DRMed far more then they used to. Get w/ the f---ing times.
Swear to gods I'm over all this launcher to launch the other launcher from my launcher b.s.
Not to mention their launcher actively thrashes my comp and acts like spyware immediately upon install. Same b.s. for years though 'better' then it used to be. (Prob cuz gamers are techies now and notice this stuff.)
Fun game, not worth the creeper level of intrusion and control freakery that ultimately slows your rig way down and increases your packet traffic by a noticeable margin.
I'm ignorant to the reason this type of 'customer convenience' and 'consumer protection' is apparently needed.
I refuse to make an account to run my t.v.
If you sell your game on steam let them handle the verification.
That's why I buy things on steam. Easy peasy.
If you like Ubisoft style games but grow tired of the all guns all the time part of Far Cry, this game is for you. It is a nice little change from the standard.
one of the best games i ever played i played it in my childhood and i played it again and always its the same wonderful experience i would recommend this game to everyone , this shit is mind blowing
It lets you play the way you want to play it instead of forcing you to go through the game the way developers intended.
Such a magical, rich setting. Glad Far Cry embraced this oft very underrated genre. Building the spiritual beliefs to a kind of reality with the beast mastery grants an added layer, not unlike what sword and sorcery brings to ancient or medieval eras. It's niche but appreciated.
This game is fun, but mediocre at best, with all unending collectibles and side quests that are all a bore. But if you like cavemen uga buga smashing heads with a club you should really give it a go (:
I don‘t really like the Far Cry series or Ubisoft Openworld in general. But this game is pure art.
The proto-indoeuropean language, the characters, nature and animals, the gameplay, the map.. everything is just perfect for a prehistoric game 12.000 Before Present.
My only criticism would be, that Sapiens and Neanderthals (and possibly another group of humans ingame?) would presumably not have lived together in 12.000 BP, because according to science, Neanderthals habe already been assimilated at this time.

Beautiful locations, of course it’s a pity that they took away firearms, but overall it’s interesting to play.
Very stunning graphics, beautiful open world and an amazing story. Help a tribe known as the Wenja expand and dominate other tribes in the stone age.
Great game, but fuck Ubisoft for forcing you to have their useless launcher. Also, no achievements?
Great game!
There are a few bugs, which can be annoying at times, but overall, great game!
