This is a single-player game that doesn’t require the internet at all. However, it forces you to connect to a Ubisoft account and stay online at all times.
I wanted to overlook this issue and judge the game based on its gameplay, but unfortunately, due to problems with this constant online connection to the Ubisoft account, the game suddenly and randomly shuts down. This happened so frequently that after a few hours of playing, I gave up on continuing the game, Probably forever.
42 hours of fucking awesome, full on, entertainment. Hot bitches. Hot as fuck cool holy shit fantasy worthy sexy ass bitches that give this action packed title meaningful direction. i fucking loved it. kind of a likeable cali native type main character. wasn't too serious, bit surfer-like. kept the serious sides of the game a bit more light hearted. i loved it. felt he was relatable. just a good hearted person.
thank you for the title. it was 42 hours of fun. thank you ubisoft. the one thing that sucked is iirc you have to launch into the ubilauncher from steam, so not really any point in getting it on steam unless it's onsale i think.

The game is beautiful, I jus't don't like Ubisoft and his guidelines...
Unfortunately, the novelty of checklist-like gameplay kind of wore off after 11 years of Ubisoft and the likes flooding the market with the exact same game. Waste time crafting to hold more than 1 weapon and 30 bullets? I'll pass. Anyone that enjoys this kind of gameplay will probably enjoy this, because honestly, when compared to modern open world games they barely improved the formula past this. I'll give the game some credits for having actually compact open world so you waste significantly less time when driving from point A to B, unlike later games though.

Every time, EVERY launch this piece of shit ask me for password. And you cannot turn it off, it is made "for security increasing". I highly DO NOT RECOMMEND buy this game, or any other games of ubisoft. Just use another, "free" options, that would muuuuch more comfortable.

Great game, but you have to use low quality Ubisoft launcher. It forces you to reenter Ubisoft account password EACH time you enter the game, annoys you with UAC requests and generally MUST NOT be required for a single player game.
I bought this game on steam and there is literally no valid reason to force my to use Ubisoft launcher, except for data collection.
Best Far Cry game by far, while the newer games have improved features and more diverse worlds, they just don't seem to fit the same aura this game had, which was something truly special, the characters were so immersive and I loved Vaas as a villain, I really felt like I was Jason saving my friends and escaping the insanity of Citra and the island, absolutely recommend this masterpiece in every way, I also highly suggest the map editor as that adds hours of countless fun after fully completing everything in Story. 10/10!!!

good game play and story-line, still a good game to play in 2024!
Crashed every 30 mins or so usually in the middle of long quests and didn't matter if you had saved if you went back in game immediately it would take you back 10 mins or more in the story, Boss fights were absolute trash. Looting and finding relics was more of a check list rather than treasure hunt. Also even on insanity mode it was the easiest game ever
I randomly got TotalBiscuit's 'WTF Is...' video for Far Cry 3 recommended to me and it reminded me of this game(obviously) and that I played through it loosely on the PS3 close to its original release, and I realized that I never played this on PC and I only ever really rushed through the main story, did some messing about in multiplayer, and not much else.
So I decided to play through it again on PC and I must say Far Cry 3 holds up very well and very quickly it becomes obvious why this game was so popular and well-received and why it set the stage for the rest of the Far Cry series.
It feels good and is very entertaining to play, it controls perfectly and sound design and effects are great, it looks really good graphically and again holds up very well in that regard considering it is (probably)a console port and from 2012.
While the story around the main character is a little questionable, the story as a whole is fantastic.
I think Far Cry 3 was the last big innovation that happened to Far Cry. The general model or gameplay loop is at its core still the same today, every Far Cry game after Far Cry 3 is still using Far Cry 3's formula.
NPCs are a little disappointing in that you most of the time see the exact same miniscule set of different NPCs carbon-copied everywhere with a very, very small range of voice actors and short dialogue lines.
Another criticism that I want to mention is with the inventory and crafting system. Both are incredibly simplistic, have clunky & frustrating menus and feel pointless and made me ask "why is this even here?". They feel like gimmicks that are there just so it can be slapped on the box as features of the game and for no other reason, it doesn't really improve the gameplay in any way.
For the time however it may have been more than fine I suppose, and I guess this criticism might come from being aware of how good such systems can be and are in so many games nowadays.
Be aware that you're required to use the Ubisoft Connect program to play the game.

great game, would be better if the ubishit launcher would get out of my way and not ask for my account password EVERY TIME I wanted to play, but it's a good game
Sadly I cannot recommend this game in the state it is now. The amount of times the game crashed while in the middle of a mission or sometimes the very end, resulting in me having to redo the entire mission, is nothing short of ridicolous. And whenever this happens (or you just quit and come back later) you have to listen to the same phone call telling you where to go again. God forbid you do anything other than the story missions because then, thanks to the crashes, you will hear that same phone call over and over until you've had enough and finally go do the story. Had it not been for this I would have enjoyed my time with the game more. But sadly that's not the world we live in.
Great Game, Alot of Issues.
Far Cry 3 is for sure one of the masterpieces made by Ubisoft, but i highly recommend avoiding this PC Port and to go ahead and play it on console instead. The performance for Modern Computers is BAD, for a game with this graphics style you would expect it to run at a very high FPS but nope its the opposite here. Unless you have a 60 Hz monitor you won't be experiencing that feeling of a high refresh rate, nope not on this game sadly. As it barely is able to chug out 100 frames. the big key give away is scrolling through the PCGamingWiki and finding 3 pages of unsolved performance issues. That tells me everything i need to know about this port and how it was constructed.
Most of it comes from the engine sadly so theres not much you can do about it, if you like 60 FPS Gaming on a Computer then ignore my review and enjoy the game, But for those who were hoping to experience some insane fluidity then unfortunately this is one of those games were it is indeed not possible.
Only writing this for people who have never played a Far Cry before like me - I was told to start here. Don't. It's severely outdated, from the constant popups forcing you to open three levels of a menu to just use an item, to the insane Ubisoft required login for a singleplayer game.
Not worth, Going to try 5 and see if it's more palatable.
Can't Start the game some of the time, other times it crashes randomly
Connections with "Ubisoft Connect" and steam do not work some of the time. I have to login to Ubisoft every single time I start the game even when Ubisoft is running (logged in) in the background. Sometimes it works, other times it gives me service unavailable or other errors.
When i do get to play the game it Crashes randomly and is very buggy.

A little bit of a 2010's classic, this one. A pretty fun story, if you ignore the fact that the protagonist is a morally compromised frickboy, immersive jungle environs, a couple memorable music tracks and solid gunplay. Skip the side missions, they're worthless.

I will warn you: the minimum OS requirement (for those of you looking to try and play on era-specific hardware) is Windows 10 now, because it requires the massive PITA known as Ubisoft Connect to even fathom the idea of launching.

This is one of the best far cry games ever. The story's well written and has a lot of twists to it. The characters development is great and well written. The gameplay's amazing with different ways to approach and kill enemies. It has a lot of varieties of gameplay like stealth, sniping, all out shooting and sneaking. The graphics still looks great. But the game crashes often for some reason which is so frustrating.
Ive played this game twice now both on xbox and pc. Its actually a really fun open world game that I suggest giving a shot and the villain is actually a bit interesting. I enjoy either going loud and causing hell or picking them off one by one and watching them loose their minds
Not including hours played on the PS3 & PS4 you can expect to complete the story and other side quests in around 24 hrs. Despite its age even a price tag of $25 is worth it for new fans of the far cry series trying to get a hold of the roots. After completing the story about a dozen times I can say with 100% certainty that this game is worth it and even competes with the new versions of the series. A wide variety of weapons/attachments, vehicles, enemy types and a huge open world map you cant go wrong. Any outpost is up to you how you take it and even early game weapons can carry you far demonstrating how much punch they really do pack. Overall, Far cry 3 is an experience that could spoil your feelings about the newer games and will keep you coming back for more. This, dare I say set the standard for the series that hasn't been quite matched yet.

Easily the Best game of the Far Cry franchise. From the main antagonist to the amount of fun having while playing through the main missions. Even the side missions are great being short and nice. Liberating outoposts and the radio tower signal destructions are the quintessence of this game. If you like fps games this is the one you must play. 10/10

The story? A rollercoaster of what the heck just happened moments featuring Vaas, a villain so charismatic he’ll make you question if he’s the real hero. The gameplay? It’s like someone handed you a Swiss Army knife and said, “Go wild.” Stealth, explosions, or just screaming while running through fire—your call.
In short, it’s an unforgettable blend of freedom, insanity, and far too many wild boars trying to ruin your day. 10/10 would accidentally grenade myself again.

Amazing gameplay, story, and graphics (if your PC can handle it!). My only complaint regards how the game would sometimes crash without installing a software that allowed the game to use up to 4GB of RAM instead of 2, any other issues were just skill issue haha

I liked the game until stupid Ubisoft started to ask for permission every single time I'm entering the game. Game crashed few times...

I do not remember anything, just killing. The collectables sucked to get but anything for the 100% completion. Took ages but I finished the game at 100% completion, with a God-like Jason. I played hardest difficulty which was fun. Would recommend.
This game is worth a play through, although it can be a little frustrating.
Due to constant crashes, I had to turn anti-aliasing off. I also had to choose HBAO for the occlusion setting. This improved that problem drastically, although I still had a few crashes during my gameplay (I'd guess 7 or 8 in my 39 hours).
The good about the gameplay is that the story and setting are engaging. The wildlife will absolutely kill you and probably more so than the human enemies. Vaas is a great villain and I'd recommend the game just for that performance!
The bad is that some of the missions are a little unclear about what to do. You may have to run through a few of them more than once just to figure it out, especially later on (which is annoying). Keep some syringes on hand. I also didn't care for the ending, no matter the justifications I've read from other players.
It's not an overly difficult game once you get going.
This was my first FC game and while I probably won't return to it, I'll gladly play 4 and 5 sometime soon.
I love this game. What I don't love is Ubisoft. See, this is a single player game. There's no reason to need to connect to Ubisoft's garbage service, yet here we are, needing to do so to play a SINGLE PLAYER GAME. And lately, every time I try to log in to Ubisoft Connect, their garbage service, I get an error saying that I can't connect.
For. A. Single. Player. Game.
SO now I have a game I can't play because Ubisoft is trash and forces their BS service on you that does nothing (except collect data for them). Fuck you, Ubisoft. And thanks for making it impossible to play an otherwise fantastic game I love.
I absolutely love this game. I've played it through multiple times on Xbox and on the PC. I'm usually not a huge FPS fan, but Far Cry 2, Far Cry 3 and the more recent Far Cry 6 are some of my favourites in the genre. I honestly feel Far Cry 3 has only been surpassed in the series by Far Cry 6, with 4 and 5 falling short, in my honest opinion.
Far Cry 3 immerses players in the stunning Rook Islands, a tropical paradise turned chaotic battleground. The lush jungles, pristine beaches, and hidden caves provide a beautiful backdrop for the game’s open-world exploration. Players assume the role of Jason Brody, navigating a gripping narrative of survival, revenge, and personal transformation, whilst trying to deal with an unhinged antagonist.
Gameplay combines stealth, combat, and crafting, offering a variety of approaches to missions. From liberating outposts to hunting wildlife for upgrades, every action feels impactful. The dynamic environment and unpredictable enemies ensure an adrenaline-fueled experience, making Far Cry 3 a standout in the open-world action genre. Crafting in this game seems to have been dropped in the later games, which I do feel is something missing from the newer games in the series.
All in all, thoroughly recommend this tropical romp

Pros:
Amazing gameplay
Gunplay/difficulty - Not particularly hard*, even on the hardest difficulty, but VERY fun!!! and made me feel accomplished whenever I'd conquer an outpost or beat a mission (Especially a specific stealth mission in the latter half of this game. That mission sucked balls but I was happy when I beat it soo)
Exploration - This game is up there with Red Dead Redemption 2 in how free and real the world feels. There are so many places you can just go to and explore with details and stuff. It's so cool! Idk I just think traversing up the mountains or the process of travelling from one place to another just is so pleasant in this game. Helps that this game still looks good.
*You can make this game as easy or hard as you want through the strategies you choose to use. Maybe some diehard FPS'ers won't like the idea of having to limit yourself for the sake of a game, but idk I like challenging myself. You can really approach most (fuck that stealth mission) situations any way you want.
Graphics - this is still a very good looking game. Worse than, like, GTA 5, but idk I like the blurriness of the surrounding islands when you look at them. Near distance things look beautiful, maybe even better than Far Cry 4 which is already a good looking game.
The soundtrack/sound design - alot of NPC voicelines are compressed to all hell so count that as a negative, though not exactly a gamebreaking one, but other than that the guns sound almost as good as the soundtrack. The main theme is one of the most beautiful songs I think I've ever heard. Definitely one of the most beautiful pieces from a soundtrack I've heard. Call me a loser but chills bro... chills
Story (partly) - Vaas, the antagonist for part of the game, is iconic. He's scary, funny but not too funny like Pagan Min in Far Cry 4, and idk just cool man
There's good and bad aspects but I won't spoil any, I just think that the story is slightly overhated because part of it ties into a thing most shooter games don't take into account
Cons: Not all that hard unless your below intermediate-skill at games, and if that's the case then you will want to crank the difficulty up to the max
I dont believe you can access the multiplayer nor the multiplayer campaign anymore which would really suck. I never played it but still, those are important parts to this game that you just cant access (though I get why - its an old game)
Overall this is one of my favorite games of all time, I spent a lot of my summer when I was a showerless 12 year old staying up all night playing this game on my dads laptop (idk how tf it ran this game). Still as fun as it was when I first played it, and while not perfect is actually surprisingly close to it

What an unbelievable journey
The story is the standout and the pace is really good. I absolutely loved the storylines and way the game slowly builds up Jason into the one man army he is. To help with this the characters are amazing with great character development. From Jason Brody turning into John Wick to the villain Vaas as one of the most unhinged characters ever. Vaas dialogue is truly one of the best in videogame history. So much realism and passion that went into that character. "Did I tell you the definition of insanity?"
The gameplay is really fun. 10x better than farcry2. The stealth feels good, loads of ways to approach outposts and a good amount of weapons and really in depth skill system to help build ways to help you. Weapons are upgradable and feel great shooting with satisfying reloading animations. The landscape is absolutely huge and breath taking jungle and mountain locations
There is so much to do. The radio towers were really fun to climb, the in play games like poker, racing and shooting games are good and upgrading your rucksack crafting using animal skins. Transportation felt good if not quite basic though there are a good number of vehicle. My favourite is the wingsuit you get. Then there are relics, letters and the dlc content that extend the playtime. I'm a good 50 hours in and though I completed the story, still have some extras to get
I played on the steam deck and was a great experience. Some slight negatives was that for an older game it really taxes the steam deck battery life, even on lower settings so I think it may be poorly optimised. Also the controls are okay but not perfect and felt the responsiveness was ever so slightly lower. My only other wish was *spoiler* keeping Vaas around longer than he was. Hoyt is a good villain but Vaas stole the show and only in half the game. Only really fussy picks but the game itself is perfection

Along with the original Far Cry the best piece in the series. Guns and action are good, graphics still very nice, character animations are awesome. There are great villains (Vaas, of course), fine looking NPCs (Liza is one of the best looking females in hisotry of gaming), beautiful locations (old ruins and temples, caves, fortifications, all looks great), and not too many of those useless activities.
This is one of the most immersive story games I have ever played. Would strongly recommend to anyone that's looking for a good story-driven game
story is still rather good but the multiplayer aspect has been removed as the servers are shut down. You can still challenge the various scores but they are the default scores of the Devs not other players. Either way a fun game that mostly holds up well.

Fun game, I've purchased it on ps3 back in the day. Figured I'd purchase on PC so I wouldn't have to live through the low fps on console. This game is fun for about 2 hours, until it starts to crash unpredictably. Tried numerous fixes on the web, without much progress. Deleting profiles, switching directx settings, touch input, updating drivers, uninstalling. I've restarted the game 3 times just to run into the same random crashing. Wouldn't recommend.
