This game is unplayable.
Literally.
I literally cannot open the game I spent $5 USD on.
Also btw you do need Ubisoft launcher for this 15 y/o game and it will make you retype your password every time you restart ur pc and want to play(?)
DO NOT BY THIS GAME (or anything by Ubisoft; Their old games are good but don't work and their new games work but also just suck.)
Nothing like a relaxing island getaway filled with murder, drug trips, and a guy named Vaas who definitely needs therapy. 10/10, very soothing.
Love the game, Vaas and Jason definitely got some sexual tension going on. Anyways FUCK ubisoft and their unorganized ass start up system.
🎮 Far Cry 3 – A Timeless Classic Worth Revisiting (Even in 2025!)
I just wrapped up Far Cry 3 with a full 100% completion, including every achievement, and wow… what a ride it was! Honestly, it started off a bit slow and slightly repetitive, but the deeper I got into the game, the more invested I became especially in the story and its legendary villains.
Let’s talk about Vaas and Hoyt. These two absolutely stole the show. Vaas in particular? Insanely well-written and performed. His chaotic energy and mind games really pulled me into the darker side of the island. He’s easily one of the most iconic villains in gaming history. Hoyt, while more calculated, also brought serious intensity and made the second half of the game feel just as compelling.
As for the achievement hunt—it was fun and totally manageable. Nothing felt overly grindy, and exploring the island, clearing outposts, and hunting for relics kept things fresh and exciting.
Even in 2025, Far Cry 3 holds up incredibly well. The gameplay still feels solid, the atmosphere is immersive, and the story is engaging from start to finish. If you haven’t played it yet (or it’s been a while), I definitely recommend giving it a go. Old but gold, no doubt about it.
🌴💥💀
Rating: 8/10 – Insanity never felt so good.
Played this when it first came out and loved it then, still love it now, absolutely worth dealing with the trash Ubisoft launcher.
Seeing that achievements had been added to steam I booted this up to complete those I haven't in the past.
Well...talk about breaking my nostalgia glasses! I did not enjoy revisiting this game and I don't recommend this when there are other games/titles available over this. FC3 is a 4/10 for story, 6/10 for gameplay.
The part most people remember is Vas, the villain, but what they forget is that every interaction with him is lead by control being taken away from the player for him to hit you from behind on a corner that I have cleared...aka...he teleports in to defeat the player. Where he then does some stupid speech with a bit of charisma that is redeeming and then fails again...to the point that the game lamp-shades this and then does it again. Completely irredeemable writing.
The majority of the optics are unusable as they have large coloured icons with artificial bloom that covers anything you aim at; and even then the reticle sways from the center of the screen but the bullets are all locked to the center; ie bullet impacts and point of aim differ. This was something that was seen as unforgivable in Aliens: Colonial Marines but for some reason is forgiven here...why? Neither should.
The general gameplay can be repetitive unless you go out of your way to change up tactics to put yourself in disadvantageous positions and the towers have been memed to hell at this point.
Basically; TLDR - can you have fun with this, certainly, but it is at best a 6/10.
Unplayable in current state.
If you have a 32 core CPU prepare to be stuck on the loading screen before you even get into the game. It remains like this permanently & you have to force close it. Your game will never load.
Ubisoft pushed a patch to "fix" this but either it didn't get pushed to steam versions of the game or it didn't fix it at all.
There are alternative ways of fixing it but it involves disabling one of your CPU cores which I will not be doing just for the sake of playing this and then having to enable the core & restart my PC when I want to play another game.
Until this is fixed the game is completely unplayable and quite frankly a waste of money and time. DO NOT BUY.
Ubisoft are a terrible company and generally I suggest not giving them any of your money. Let them waste away & be taken over by a competent studio.
I can't play this game because when I try to log in, the third party launcher forces me to use my old email address, even though that's not the address registered on my Ubisoft account anymore. There is no way to edit the email address field when I try to log in.
If you look at the Steam guides you will see that all of the top rated guides are for how to get the game to run despite Ubisoft & Uplays best efforts to the contrary.
The game is technically absolutely unplayable. It's very sad to see, that literally pirated version of this game works 10x times better than this official bought one.
Still one of the best games of the Far Cry series. and still a game thats very much worth still playing 12 years after. it was ahead of its time then. and can still be fun to play even today + now theres also steam achievements added. a bit late to the party to add achievements but better late than never. multiplayer no longer works. but still a 10/10 single player open world shooter
cannot get the fucker to run fuck ubisoft none of their shitty games work with their garbage launchers
Peak Ubi gaming experience. Great character designs and good story / maps. The only drawback is that Ubi Connect is mandatory. At least with games in which they ended online support, they could let us play them directly with Steam.
I played it mainly with three weapons to make it more stealthy::
* Bow: because using a sniper with silencer makes the outposts too easy.
* Shotgun: in case they were unlucky enough to spot me.
* RPG: for armor soldiers (I prefer it over C4), vehicles and helicopters..
* Extra (grenades): mwahahahaha.
PD: Citra, WTH, woman. I'm so glad I chose the ending in which I save my friends
this game is very amazing to the point thatt you will immerse yoursalfe in its world and you will feel like youre jason brody 10/10
Far Cry 3 came out in 2012 and I just played it now.
It's an interesting and exciting story, but the ending disappointed me. I chose my friends because I saved them throughout the game. The characters are vibrant and well-developed.
The protagonist, Jason Brody, often becomes unhinged, either due to the influence of drugs or the traumatic events he has endured.
The soundtrack is superb, particularly during the mission to burn the plantations.
This is still my favorite entry of the entire Far Cry series, but this PC port is atrocious. The game constantly crashes, and minor quirks/bugs from console seem to have been amplified into a larger issue in the PC version.
Revisiting Far Cry 3 after nearly 13 years since Ubisoft recently updated steam achievements for the Far Cry series. I maintain this is the best Far Cry from a story perspective even though it’s the Far Cry that started Ubisoft on the path of recycled game mechanics involving skinning and climbing towers. If they had stopped here, Far Cry 4 would probably be a different game.
The story is the perfect analogy of the everyman hero, which is a trope often displayed in film and other video games. The best video game of all time uses this trope to no end- ‘random everyman ends up an action hero and saves the day’ with little or no skills to do so. Far Cry 3 explores this idea at what cost to the main playable character Jason as he slowly rescues each one of his friends who has been kidnapped by a pirate lord Vass, who is planning to sell them into slavery.
Playing this game in 2025, I encountered dozens of crash to desktop events, which I later resolved by using Large Address Aware software. It would have been nice if Ubisoft actually tested the game on modern hardware along with updating the achievements.
Graphics and gameplay wise this still holds up in 2025, though the animations are what can make a frustrating experience at times. There is an animation for everything! Vault over a log 2 feet off the ground: animation. Skin an animal: animation. Heal while in the middle of gunfire: Super long animation. There is so much stunlock in the game you will need to adjust your run and gun playstyle.
Far Cry 3 is probably where the Far Cry franchise peeked and though the franchise will probably live on, we will likely see some changes to the formula in the same way Ubisoft changed Assassin’s Creed. A change now is welcomed.
Far Cry Ranked
1. Far Cry 5
2. Far Cry 3
3. Blood Dragon
4. Far Cry Primal
5. Far Cry
6. Far Cry 2
7. Far Cry 4
Maybe because I didn't play Far Cry series back in old days, and played FC3 for the first time 13 years after it's release, I can't say unfortunately that I really enjoyed this game. Let's go through good points first:
1. Shooting and action gameplay. Indeed, I have enjoyed all firefights in the game, especially the main storyline quests where you either have to fire from a turret on a chopper or a car, or when you need to fight your way through whole groups of enemies. Guns have a good variety, possibility to upgrade them and they "feel" well when shooting.
2. Movement. It's fast and there are many ways to do it - on foot, by car (which are freely available, flooded on the map), with a wingsuit, with a glider or just fast-travel. The movement, sprinting, jumping animations really "feel" and immerse you enough into the game.
3. Unique design of enemy outposts. I enjoyed most of the game capturing enemy outposts, by analyzing enemy positions, looking through the layout of them, planning the stealth way to capture some of them, sometimes using the explosives or animal cages to distract enemies. This was really nice and simple tactical "minigame" for me each time I was capturing an enemy base.
4. Music during action scenes. It had good rhythm as well. Also liked the inclusion of "Ride of Valkyries" in some of the game quests.
Now the bad points:
1. Presence of custom launcher. I did not have many problems with it as others are writing in reviews, however forcing player to not only download another launcher, but also create an account with absurd password requirements that will be re-asked each game launch is stupid. We already have Steam, stop adding these.
2. Crashes. With all respect, you had 13 years to fix most of the crash issues with the game, yet it still crashed for me when I just wanted to take a screenshot or, more critically, during main missions, forcing me to replay them after restart.
3. Repetitiveness. Well, I understand it's a Ubisoft game but still. Whole map full of same-type side quests that I quickly became bored of. The main quests are surely more interesting, but half of other game content is the same copy-paste.
4. Weak character design, despite of relatively good acting and motion-capture. Nobody except probably Vaas, Doctor Earnhardt, Sam and Buck really interested or surprised me as characters. Liza portrayed as silly hysterical partner, not doing anything really useful; Hoyt is a typical movie-level cliche villain, being represented in game as "root of evil", while Vaas being far more insane than him. It's portrayed that Citra is in love with the main character, but I couldn't care less about her death in one of the endings. Jason came for combat support, not for love, being seduced or joining a cult. I had zero feelings for her as a character.
5. Plot holes. Either it's lazy story-writing, or it was just rushed, or maybe even there is some hidden deep meaning that I am not seeing - but explaining how did Jason survive certainly fatal encounters with key antagonists using "drugs" or "hallucinations" is not right. How did he single-handendly unarmed take out multiple Hoyt's guards during the poker game? Why everyone ties so easy to release knots when capturing Jason, so he can just break them with his arms? How did Vaas fail to kill Jason so many times while having good opportunities? I can write many more....
6. Terrible UI. The inventory is accessed through a pause (?) menu, same as the skill tree. UI buttons are disproportional in sizes, sometimes hard to click, the inventory management is a mess, the save system sometimes works sometimes not and other minor issues.
7. Unimmersive artificial game limits or unexplained events. Again, I understand it's a Ubisoft game and it was 2012, but forbidding me to use a boat to travel from North to South island just because I am "out of bounds" is lazy game design - make me run out of fuel then, or be shot by some patrol boats, etc. instead of just putting a hardstop timer. Also, after I capture an outpost, the Rakyat arrive almost immediately after the flag is risen. Where they were when I was fighting 5 pirates at once at this outpost seconds ago? Make them arrive a minute later at least, maybe?, it's not difficult anyway.
8. Other minor problems like same-repeating green-grass terrain, unbalanced economy and upgrades, enemy AI bugs, empty points-of-interest on the map, etc...
In summary, I am putting thumbs up as I would still say that good points outweigh the bad ones, also as an expression of respect, considering that it's a 13 year old game in a very famous franchise. However, even compared to games of the same time, there are plenty of outdated and archaic mechanics in the game, and many things that could've been done better, in a way that would allow calling FarCry3 a "masterpiece", which is not fair to do today.
Far Cry 3 is a must-play for anyone who loves open-world games. Its groundbreaking mix of immersive storytelling, vast exploration, and innovative gameplay set a new standard for the genre. With a memorable antagonist, meaningful player choice, and a dynamic world that reacts to your actions, it's no surprise that its influence can still be seen in today’s top titles. If you're a fan of immersive worlds and non-linear gameplay, Far Cry 3 is a classic that continues to inspire modern gaming. Highly recommended!
ubisoft games in a nutshell, you buy a game, try to play it, oops you need ubisoft connect launcher or whatever, okay me login, oops a ubisoft service is currently unavailable. please try again later ( aka go f yourself u already paid us the money lol no u cant play the game whenever u want only when we allow it haha )
Cannot even launch the game because I no longer have access to a 15 year old Uplay account and it wont even let me link a new account. Their support sends you in an endless loop of account recovery links that ends in them telling you there is nothing you can do to recover your account. Great support Ubisoft.
mainly only good because of vaas and his actor being great. still fun tho, they gave it to me for free with far cry 5
DONT BUY THIS GAME. Ubisoft totally broke the game. Literally unplayable, you cant play without crashing the game every hour and sudden fps drop. Need to login Uplay for every time and cant play it offline when all online features are already removed. This is the worst experience I have ever had in life. NEVER BUYING ANOTHER UBISOFT GAME AGAIN.
First of all, I was very skeptical of the ‘masterpiece’ label for this game, given Ubisoft’s track record. Maybe back in 2012, they weren’t as bad, but I’ve always had mixed feelings about them. Even their so-called golden age games like Prince of Persia, Rayman, or Splinter Cell never felt on par with their competition at the time.
Anyway, I also had some prejudice against playing FPS games on a gamepad when this first came out, and I didn’t own a gaming PC yet, so I skipped it—without realizing I was skipping a game with such a huge influence on the industry.
I had a moment of enlightenment when I realized that some of my all-time favorites, like Metal Gear Solid V and Zelda: Breath of the Wild, took inspiration from this game’s open-world design. Big shock! I had heard this before, but I dismissed Far Cry 3 so hard that I convinced myself it could never hold a candle to those games in terms of execution. I was wrong. This game executes its ideas incredibly well—maybe even better than my favorites (Zelda and MGS).
The gameplay is fire! Also, my prejudice against playing FPS games on a gamepad? Gone. I played most of this on my Steam Deck, and it runs very well. The weapons feel great, the upgrades are satisfying, the skill tree is fun, and the story is both engaging and easy to follow. And the best part? It delivers all of this in under 20 hours—so much content without feeling bloated. I won’t bother with the newer Far Cry games because I know they’ve become the same bloated mess as most Ubisoft games nowadays.
Anyway, I love this game. It’s amazing. I missed it back in the day, ignored it for over a decade, and now—holy cow, what an experience. I want more games like this: medium-length, engaging, a blast to play, with amazing gameplay.
9/10
Finaly Ubisoft decided to add achievements to these games, and i can play them again, theyre good ,fun and worth the time. Sadly this far cry 3 crashed for me allot. Game is pretty short took me 19 hours to get all of the achievements and basicly do everything what game has to offer. Ubisoft launcher sucks.
I LOVE this game, don't get me wrong.
i shouldn't have to login, multiple times... for the game "to not" work!
maybe i'm just old and not understanding.
Fun game, and pretty much my favorite Far Cry game; However, the very first Far Cry will always hold a spot in my heart. I had to revisit this since it now has achievements on steam. Graphics at Ultra actually hold up well for 2025. Gameplay is the king here, Far Cry 3 is by far one of the most fun FPS games ever made and yes I needed achievements in order to come to that realization.
8/10
- Loses two points cause Ubisoft is one of the silliest companies in existence but then gains one point back because Ubisoft has semi redeemed themselves by adding achievements on Steam. Yes I know.... tacky.
- Loses another point cause I don't give out tens, or in this case nines for Ubisoft cause I'm petty that way.
ubisoft connect and horrible performance for its age are the main reason why i think you should not buy this game on pc despite it being a good game
id rather deal with ten EA apps over 1 ubisooft connect thats how bad it is
Great game that launched the Far Cry series, though it's a bit short. The gunplay and graphics haven't aged well, but the story alone makes it worthwhile. Definitely recommend picking it up during a sale, but not at full price
Still stands as one of the best Far Cry editions. Just wrapped it up again in 2025. Multiplayer is dead (servers taken down) but it was primarily a single player game to start with. All achievements work.
The game was great but having to retrieve my strong password every time I wanted to play the game was extremely annoying.
Did I ever tell you what the definition of insanity is? Insanity is launching the fucking game over and over again, expecting it to not crash. That is crazy.
Its so sad bc far cry 3 is such a good game. Ubisoft fix ur shitty games.
So much dissapointed product. On every launch require enter password for Ubisoft service that I never doesn't have plan to use.
Just one question for developers and company "How can you image do so bad?"
Pretty solid game, good old game that gave a lot of Nostalgia now that playing though again for the Achievements. Thank you Ubi !
This game is Legendary, the Villain are well written
The Gameplay is fun, the Takedowns are great, the Weapon Handling are awesome.
The only complain is that the Game had a tendency to crash... a lot
8/10 For the Crashing issue.
Back when Ubisoft tried to make games that were fun and engaging instead of whatever the fuck they make now. Combat is decent, but pretty basic, nothing much to speak of there, but the story is where things actually get interesting. By no means is the story Shakespearean, or anything, but they did create a very compelling couple of villains, and an interesting morally diverse protagonist. Won't say much, to allow anyone who want to experience the game themselves to do so, but overall the game is a solid 7/10, simple, but fun. Once you get to the final island, it turns into an 8/10 bc you get something that makes every game better, but that's as high as it goes. As for 100%ing, it's pretty easy, albeit a bit time consuming. Fortunately, Ubisoft didnt have you collect ALL of the relics, and the other collectables are pretty small, so it's not the most difficult. Other than that, the takedown one with either parachute, zipline, or glider is pretty terrible and inconsistent. Took 3 successful tries to have it pop so, not much else I can say on it. As said, 7/10 overall, not bad Ubisoft, if only you could make a 7/10 game nowadays.
Bought this game on sale to replay the classic and remember what Ubisoft was once loved for.
Ended up dealing with:
- Ubisoft connect
- The game constantly changing the resolution setting from native to the "apparently we are now playing Far Cry on Tamagotchi"
- Changing language manually by directly going into the files of the game
- Frame dips and micro-stuttering that gives me headache and somehow following guides from the internet now made that problem worse.
Basically... I'm not a big fan of Ubisoft
From islands to Africa and then to more islands, another fun installment from ubislop. I still find all the far cry installments enjoyable to play (idk about fc6 yet though) and this one's story is quite fun.
game does lauch or work tried everything if anyone knows how to fix it lmk please
I like this game so much, but ubisoft connect and it various problems make me hate to play this game. My ubisoft connect always got crashed after 10-15 minutes played, require to login every time, sometimes fails, and i have to change the password before i play. Is there no solution for that ?
Unplayable on modern hardware.
Just as Ubisoft added achievements.
It's like some sick joke.
Can't stand the practices of this company.
I can't see myself purchasing another Ubisoft title in the future.
0/10
game good
ubisoft bad
why the fuck do i need an internet connection to play a singleplayer game
just to load your stupid 3rd party launcher? f off ubisoft i hope you go under
Still just a masterpiece of a game. Also earned achievements right away either with my Ubisoft account or cloud save i had from 2012. not sure
I played for an hour but i keep having a repeating problem. My game screen will switch to a windowed format whenever a few specific but common (key game mechanic) cut scenes happen. Such as getting attacked by dogs or opening the camera/binoculars more so its hard to get the screen to go back to normal through the settings if it will. This happens every time I play the game and I have not found a way to stop it yet either. Its a good game(I did 2 missions so far) but i cant play when its showing on the left side of my screen in a shrunk window.
Edit: it looks this game never got an update for compatability with windows 11. Which is the reasons for the complaints about bugs/crashes.
Will the game is fine and i have played the game before on ps3 ah old times but playing any game from ubisoft or EA in pc is annoying as :::::: ,1 you cant play offline you need their shitty app connected to internet first , 2 every time i lunch their shitty app problems happen, crashing , need to re do the password every time , sync the game to their servers even if i disabled the shit , they are wasting half our playing time on fixing some garbage and useless apps now the regret of buying FC5 is coming to me
With the amount of crashes I experienced per hour in this game I can say that I know the definition of insanity. More crashes than in any Destruction Derby games. However it didn't bother me that much, because I fucking love this game. This is almost a perfect game.
I had played it years ago on Playstation, but with the added achievements I just had to get my fix somewhere, right?
And I knew I would fall in love anew when I was giggling like a little kid being chased by four komodo dragons.
Have you ever stopped to look at how they move? How they sound? They are MAJESTIC. Damn, I love komodo dragons.
Yeah, yeah, the characters are great, the story is fun, I got the ending I deserved with some boobs in my face I guess.
But the komodo dragons; keep hustlin'.
another great game i cant play because lame UBISOFT making everything about them and not about us enjoying the game we bought. i dont know why i even bother with them any more i think im done. long time fan of this game wanted to replay the past alil and they cant even do that for us with out making us jump through hoops. always making the game laggy no need for the sign in garbage. buy the game on console and save yourself
Hate for Ubisoft for not allowing me to play the game.
I bought the game on Steam but you require to run it through Ubisoft connect that is laggy: require to login every time, sometimes fails and require to restart it, then 50% chance it will suspend my password and require to change it, then by changing it that often it's easy to make a mistake while reentering it again and again and in result your account is blocked for 1h and you can't play it.
Nice user experience!
Crashes like crazy, if you don't do activities and just hunt stuff you can lose hours of progress because of this. Don't even bother playing it.
No cloud save and shitty ubishit launcher which requires logging in every launch lmao
I can say that I grew up with this game and it is very special for me.
I finished the game many times and it was never boring for me.
