Love it. Bought it for $1.50 on sale and now I'm pissed that I haven't been playing this all along. Better late than never, I suppose!
It's just a really well done first-person, party-based dungeon crawler. I don't understand why there isn't 100 clones of this format by now. Maybe it is difficult to do.
Make sure you have friends to play with, because the bots are absolute trash. Even on the easiest difficulty they don't do a thing.
Would not recommend for the for single/solo player.
Awesome game easy controls. But difficult game to master worth the challenge.

great game, one thing that would make it better would be a big DLC where you fight orcs instead of skaven and chaos, would be awsome

I only played a few minutes of this game and I pretty much loved it. Gameplay story everything is amazing as usual with warhammer games. If you like warhammer and warhammer lore stuff then you should definitely get the game especially since it's on 90% sale right now
Love vermintide games! nothing to say about the hold feature.
But the NEW Versus feature is pretty bad
-played 5 games and once had a balance team member most of the time game end 0-290 or 60-200
-big time lag and people teleport everywhere
-super unbalance (don t know how but when i play, it looks like i don t do dps... fill verry wierd)
-some maps are to easy and some maps are just to hard to do anything.(some lvl design should be rework)
doesn't feel polish...
one of the best games ever was able to get it for just 2 dollars and the maps and combat is hella addicting. would recommend when on sale
One of the best horde, first-person... Shooters? Slashers? On the market. Even to non-Warhammer fans, it is an easy recommend. Warhammer Fantasy is a great setting but a fantasy setting overall in the first-person market is still refreshing and niche, so props there. Melee combat feels satisfying, as does the ranged combat.
There's almost any kind of Fantasy character you can want (with the caveat that there are only 5 actual characters, making sure you never have to play your least favorite, so all the variants are just subclasses of the 5)--a ranger, a mage, a dwarf, a knight, a fighter, a cleric, a hunter, a druid(ess), a rogue, and oftentimes there's overlap in this. The game has plenty of options for people who want to play with a purely melee build or primarily ranged build (though all builds will require a bit of melee knowledge).
The base game has 20 character classes that cover most of your bases in terms of gameplay--4 free classes for each of the 5 characters. Also, you will have most weapons available, with only a few being locked behind DLC
It so far comes free with three different gamemodes--a "story," mode, that while there is an actual story, it is mostly used as a series of maps to play on, but if you want to play through the whole story, you definitely can. A roguelite mode. And the new PvP mode which is great--somehow turning a horde PvE game into a really good and surprisingly fast-paced PvP game as well is quite the accomplishment.
I cannot recommend enough, though with the caveat that there are some niche playstyles that are only seen in the DLC classes (namely, the necromancer and outcast engineer are both entirely unique), so if you want those experiences you will have to just plunge into the DLC's there. Otherwise, the base package will cover most of your needs.
I want to start by saying I absolutely LOVE this game. I started playing a month ago.
With that being said, I don't want to recommend this game in it's current state. I just learned a bunch of stuff about this game. I got my last character to level 35, rolled my first 300 power exotic (and got a few more as well), and even rolled a Veteran Charm with Barkskin. All by November 12th. Thank goodness because on November 14th, they completely changed the progression system.
This sucks for me because after getting used to how earning loot worked before, I get to learn all over again. I learned that I no longer have a chance at Veteran items. Even beating the campaign levels/Chaos Wastes on Legendary, I'm still not even rolling 300 power Rares.
I still don't have all the items I'd like for all my builds. Looking up info is harder now that I need to make sure the equipment or talents recommended to new players from guides wasn't nerfed (after being more-or-less the same for a long time).
This update kinda killed my will to keep progressing, ironically enough.
I do enjoy the PvP, tho. It's fun when you don't take it too seriously. The Rats are EXTREMELY fun to play.
first time playing these types of games i usually play single player mode games but this genre is also pretty fun .
Great game especially with friends, one slight word of warning though when playing quick play there are some super toxic players. Not enough to ruin the game but do be on the lookout
the versus mode absolutely sucks
maps are too small spawns are way too frequent rats do too much damage and there is not near enough ammo on the map best way to get scores is just go invis and run
might be fun with friends
nice game but need more event and content (like new characters or classes)
95% off? It's exactly like a free game.
I spent a few hours playing it, and it's a really enjoyable team-coop game with a welcoming community.
This game is similar to WWZ / Left4Dead
It's really satisfying to break every rat's head with an axe.
Strongly suggested 11/10
Nerfing dlc items again and changing talents that finally made a dlc classes good back to bad or meh for the sake of pvp systems
>play versus for first time
>losing hard against good players
>someone complains and leaves
>new guy joins
>we win
truly a l4d2 versus experience just like i remembered :steamhappy:
Very fun game. I'm usually a big hater of melee combat in first-person games but this actually feels pretty good. It has a nice blend of melee and shooter combat that feels smooth to transition between and the hordes of enemies are fun to fight. The enemies that randomly stun-grab you without warning are a bit annoying but eventually you learn how to avoid getting caught.
The levels and environments are very well made and look good. The progression is nice and the crafting system makes the tedious task of discarding bad loot less painful (a lesson that many recent looter shooters still haven't learned surprisingly).
The game is great in co-op (haven't tried the new PvP mode yet) and the inclusion of steam workshop support for modding really adds to the longevity and value of the game.
Also the game has a Dwarf
Get it if you enjoy swarm shooters and wading through swamps of hosile rats with your friends
Even years after its release, the game looks stunning. Each maps full of cool details and atmosphere that pull you deep into its grim, war-torn medieval world. Combat shines with its satisfying mix of weaponry and magics.
Whether you’re cleaving through Skaven hordes with a heavy sword, delivering devastating area of effect damage with Sienna’s fire spells or creating powerful barriers with Kruber’s support skills etc. each character feels distinct and rewarding.
The magic system brings an extra layer of chaos, especially Sienna’s ability to control fire with precision and unleash cataclysmic blasts is both visually spectacular and deadly. Swordplay is equally thrilling with precise timing required to cleave through enemies. The game’s secrets add an extra layer of depth. Finding hidden Grims which increase the difficulty but reward you with extra loot, discovering these secret locations, often tucked away in corners or behind environmental puzzles, makes each wave feel more alive and fun exploration beyond simply surviving the horde.
The bosses like the towering Rat Ogres or Chaos spawn, require excellent team coordination and strategy, turning into satisfyin experience with all bloods on the floor at the end of the wave :D
For co-op taste and medieval fantasy lovers, Vermintide2 is a must play <3
Terrible update. Another fun strategies got a nerf
Been playing this game for a very long time and i have always loved it, but this progression update stuff kinda sucks, its even worse for new players and veterans alike from what i can see. With all maxed out characters and full power on every build i haven't gotten a single 300 power item from any crate or from any crafting i have done whatsoever. This feels like its meant to make progression harder across the board which i do not think was the purpose of the update, it feels like its made to punish players and make them grind more which this game doesn't need in the slightest.
Im hoping that the crafting system and loot system is either just reverted to before this or improved, as the old one sucked too but was better than this.
Reworked the Progression System actually makes the grind harder for new players and is kinda shit
Commendation chests are now crap. Used to be +10/-5 of max average power now it is based on character level when acquired. ~160-260 below level 30 ~260-300 at level 30-35
-Gear obtained from Commendation chests from levels 1 to 30 now cannot give Veteran rarity items and have a maximum of 260 item power.
Crafting is not based on the old +10/-5 instead it is based on the 260-300.
Reds are no longer power 300 so now you have a chance of dud reds.
(watched a friend draw a 216 red)
Gear obtained from Veteran difficulty chests are now capped at 200 item power.
TLDR
The grind is harder, bad time to be new to the game.
Got it on sale, 6 years after its release. The game is surprisingly fun and has a lot of content. The gameplay is solid, the melee mechanics are actually really good and satisfying and about 50hrs in they don't feel boring. It just feels really nice to smash, slice and throw away vermin and watch their stupid little rat heads ragdoll around. The maps are great both visually and design-wise. The music is great. The dialogue is really great. The chest system is pretty good, the crafting is solid. The roguelike Chaos Wastes mode is quite fun. Overall the game really surprised me I was not expecting it to be this solid. It's perfect for relaxing after work, especially if you have a friend or two.
I love being able to play this game in singleplayer AND multiplayer, it feels so good to hack and slash (and shoot) hordes of enemies. Gotta watch out for the packmaster ambushes though!
A good fun team coop experience, one of the best out there, made excellent by mods. Whilst not without small issues, its easy to look past them, as there's a lot to enjoy. If you're familiar with Warhammer it stays true to that setting, with well written characters and dialog.
Great game, some of the most visceral and satisfying melee you'll find out there. The progression system leaves a lot to be desired, though. From my own experience and whenever I've on-boarded new friends into the game, it's often been the case that the time investment for grinding levels and gear up to a proficient level will take longer than the actual development of a player's skill to jump up in difficulty, leaving some small periods of time where they're likely gated from playing something harder just because of their gear.
If you can get past those few hours of slower progress though, there's not been a more addictive gameplay loop I've found in any other game. The combat is brutal, yet elegant, its aesthetic of this beautiful, grim world is soaked in grime and blood, and the rats are endless. There's not many highs in gaming that rival this when I play it with my gym-playlists.
Game is Great and Unique!its not easy especially on legend and cataclysm its veeeeeeery hard!!and its best to play with friends ,you can always play with bots :)
This game is great for the people who love playing horde games like left 4 dead. The gameplay is great I just wish gets more attention when it comes to these types of games. I recommend it to those who want to play a different horde game or to new players.
Vermintide 2 offers a fantastic atmosphere in each of its maps. Levels are greatly varied in terms of scenery and the player characters have an oddly entertaining group dynamic that doesnt feel forced. Both writers and voice actors did a great job there.
Enemy and player models convey the look/feel of Warhammer Fantasy perfectly and even the soundtrack ties it all together nicely.
Definitely play this with a group of friends though, and unless you are specifically interested in the DLC characters, i would advise to stay away from them. The Grail Knight for example is very fun to play, but i feel it takes away from the joy of my group when i have the ability to take out tough elites at the press of a button.
Easy anti-cheat broke and now I can't play the game. Re-installing the game does nothing because there's no EAC folders in it for steam to re-install. Why must games make anti cheat a fucking pain in the ass to deal with?
Truly one of the most fun WarHammer games I've seen to this day. The Combat is so fluid yet impactful. I can and will be continuing to swing wildly in entertainment at the hordes for a long while to come.
Not to mention the mob density, animations, Variety, Maybe the uniqueness of what specials do and are could definitely be expanded upon but that's honestly one of my only complains.
If you make sure to keep in mind the reviews when buying the DLC you will generally have a great price for content as the game is already very re-playable.
I don't recommend many games to friends. But this one is highly regarded in my eyes if you are into horde slashers or the warhammer universe.
My pros:
As with most Warhammer games, the visuals are great and they do a fantastic job with lore and story. I really enjoyed the level design and character interactions. They have a decent variety of weapons for each character that will keep things interesting for the first play through.
My cons:
The combat is straight forward and simple. Even though it appears to have a good variety of play styles with all of the different characters, professions, and weapons, they are all extremely similar to each other. Each character/prefession gives you 1 new ability that is pretty minor in the grand scheme of combat. The talent trees are all passive very minor increases to mechanics shared by everyone else. You will not feel unique or customized in any meaningful way.
I rate it a 6/10, could have been 10/10 if they gave the characters depth and real choice in level advancement.
No multiplayer support on linux, thanks to EAC. Not worth the money, if you want to play on linux.
Despite some scummy DLC practices earlier on, this game has come a long way! From a buggy launch, to corporate greed, to doing a huge turnaround and now actively working on a Versus mode, I'd say it's worth the money.
Get the DLCs on sale, tho. Winds of Magic is only good if you want some really cool weapon skins and new weapons
Amazing game to play solo or with friends. Difficulty choices allow you to pick if you want to chill or get sweaty. Great sound design. Great visuals. Amazing setting. Best in class movement and melee combat. Just buy the game if you are on the fence.
Easy and fun to get into, high skill ceiling, love the advanced mechanics when it comes to combat, very fun to play with friends. 10/10
Nothing can beat stress relief by smashing RATS TO PIECES! This game has very great lore and the dialogues between characters are very immersive and funny! At the beginning of the gameplay was somewhat just about clicking button and kill some rats but towards the endgame it's still clicking button and kill rats BUT with more in depth mechanic you need to master if you want to SURVIVE the END TIMES!
Overall the game has very good replayability and I never got bored of it, however there are some bugs but almost every games i play never escape from this so it's acceptable.
9/10
Cleave a big horde of things with a weighty weapon is a niche not too many games I know of fill. Game's much more complex than just slapping rats, granted, but it's the main thing I think of when thinking of this game, and it's easy to want to come back for that reason.
As of writing this, the community's still active so finding multiplayer lobbies with people playing is no issue.
Wow, they've added an incredible amount of content.
I'm not sure how its possible that the gunplay in this feels better than Darktide. In fact this game does so much better than it and I'm not sure how they fumbled that fish. Vermintide II is a great horde hack/slash with some shooting alongside either bots or your friends against the forces of the Skaven, Beastmen, and Chaos. With that you already have more enemy variety than Darktide, a game set in Warhammer 40,000. I'd recommend this game to anyone wanting a fun time with hilarious characters and not cardboard cut outs you have no connection to. The graphics are suberb, it has the fairest lootbox mechanics I've seen in a game ever, and it has a roguelite mode for seemingly infinite fun with your mates.
I love the grim dark realistic settings compared to the cartoonish goofy asthetic now i just need a mod that uses the model so I can put em on Warhammer 3 skaven units
Rat must die.
Really fun with friends, haven't tried playing solo or online
The subclass system is a super cool change from the first game, and lots of other aspects included in game 1 are a lot easier to understand. Love killing ratties too
dated gameplay mechanics but fun
Amazing game SUPER fun with friends and still gets updates way after launch
Vermintide II, is a near perfect game. Its consistently fun, is a horde-clear game with a story, tons of modes, class systems that don't lock you down to 1-2 builds per. The developers cared about the game and flushed it out fully, de-bugged 99% of the game and allowed it to flourish.
After playing Darktide, by the same studio, with better graphics... I am still returning to Vermintide because the game feels more playable at any scale. Want to solo play? The bots will use your own classes and won't int you from the lowest to highest levels. Want to grind with friends? Its there and scaleable. Definitely a top 5 game for me.
Great horde shooter/slasher. Fantastic first person melee combat. Colorful cast of characters. And, the community is still going strong. Not having trouble finding groups.
An all around amazing game would recommend if you like the left for dead play style. Great all around classes to play and choose from. The Maps are amazing and feel great to play on.
Great game, absolutely the best game FatShark has made, Darktide is stumbling but it's picking up steam and soon I hope it will be just as great as this game. My only gripe with this game is that it doesn't have cross-platform for PC and console, I understand the limitations but it will forever be the hangup I have.
