ЭТО У НАС СЕМЕЙНОЕ
Children of Morta – action-RPG
Уникальный игровой процесс сочетает жанры action-adventure RPG, rogue-lite и hack and slash.

played on hard. was good, but i had to bring it back to normal for me. mostly playing solo, and occassionaly local co-op. loving local co-op with the wife when we get amoment. love the setting and family vibe. fantastic pixel graphics. can recommend.
Very fun action roguelike with a simple but charming story and great pixel art.
Feels good to grow with the family's character.
Each character own different ability, choose your own style and enjoy the game.
If there're more stage and able to develop Home, it'll be more interesting.

Difficulty in Normal mode :
Casual, I would say Hade is more difficult.

Morta is a very fun game but, the game is a little grind heavy. Morta also offers a fun cooperative game mode.
Not a fan of the corruption fatigue mechanic. Can't honestly recommend this to someone with something like that in the game. For me, it screams of crying devs upset that you aren't playing the game like THEY want you to play it which it was one of gaming pet peeves.
Impossible to progress with melee characters, there are too many enemies in the dungeons, some of them are too fast, some can not be staggered, and health is scarce.
"ok that's no issue, there is an archer character who I really liked and I'm just gonna play her all the time" I thought. Wrong. If you play the same character for long enough it will get fatigued (in my case it was -56% max health) and the negative will wear off over time when they rest.
If you force me to play other characters please make sure they don't suck.
I've been enjoying the gameplay and visuals for this game. However, the narrative exposition in Children of Morta is exhausting and unnecessary, and it's killing my enjoyment of the game so much, that I had to go and mute the narrator and turn on subtitles. Guys, the animation and art tells the story just fine without some guy with an unlikeable drone telling you what you see. Let the visuals do the story telling instead of force feeding me narrative. I'm here to play an RPG roguelite and wasn't expecting an audio novel in between. It's not great. 90% of the narrator's spoken dialogue could be removed entirely and the game would not suffer for it. You hired these artists to do all this elaborate artwork and animation, and you're ruining it with some british dude yammering on and on describing what you see with your own eyes. If y'all were trying to hit that vibe Hades had with their narrator, Homer, you missed it. That being said, it's pretty good if you turn the sound for it off and use subtitles.
Honestly its not a bad game i just think its kind of boring and the character balance seems like ass. idk i only played 4 hours tho
This is an absolute gem, visually stunning with a heart-warming story. Fantasy action rogue-lite with a strong theme of family.
prefect game for story and rpg fans alike. play it one of the best ones.. aaa games lack impact for meny.
indie games/aa games hit just right
Children of Morta is an incredibly heartwarming and engaging action RPG that combines fast-paced combat with a deeply emotional story about family, sacrifice, and legacy. What stands out the most is its beautiful pixel art style, which perfectly complements the rich narrative and immersive world.
The game revolves around the Bergson family, each member with unique abilities that are not only powerful but also reflect their personalities and growth. As you fight to protect your homeland from evil forces, you’ll get a sense of connection with each family member, making their victories and losses feel impactful. The story is both tender and epic, making it easy to get emotionally invested.
Overall, Children of Morta is a beautiful, thoughtful game that successfully blends action with a powerful family narrative.
Hey!!! ...That's pretty good! Real talk though, being able to play a dungeon crawling rouge-like with my partner is a game changer. Pun intended.
have grinded on switch. not easy but satisfying. beautiful game and nice story. dlc worth pickup on sale
Nice game. Story rich. Good pacing. Challenging enough. Beautiful design.
This game is fantastic.
The multiplayer leaves a lot to be desired, but the hack'n'slash action is phenomenal.
Ranged characters seem to have somewhat of an advantage, but overall the progression, storyline, narration, BGM and even (surprisingly) the visuals are solid and give a sense of nostalgia.
Would recommend for $10 (I got all the DLC). It's the price of a movie.
I'd give this game a 6/10. This is a really fun game to get into, but the longer you play the more shortcomings you find. The story is rather good and fun to play through, but the late game and replayability is lacking. There are many obvious and rather easy to implement quality of life improvements that many, many players have mentioned in their respective reviews, but the developer has chosen not to make these changes, for whatever reason. I have 27 hours in game and enjoyed almost all of those hours, but I don't see myself playing this game anymore. I would continue playing for many more hours but the late game is very frustrating due to many poor design choices.
Storytelling - amazing
Visual - amazing
Gameplay - very average, only 4 atacks per character, 3 with very varied cooldowns. The gimmick of forcing the player to use all the character was ... okay.
Menu - garbage, designed for consoles.
Network - terrible, enemies took damage at least 0.5 seconds afterwards, I had issues of teleport backward, made for a frustrating gameplay.
Overworld - 0/10. As the co-op friend I had no control over anything. I just had to wait and sit while the host did the fun part.
Overall I did not enjoy myself and will not be playing more.
Only thing this game has going for it is story go buy binding of isaac rebith or hades instead
cant play online without endless bugs and lagging
Incredible game, especially for people with limited time and Mac users who want something casual.
Same price on GOG and Steam. Steam gets all updates while GOG gets none (for years now!). Quite scammy behaviour from 11 Bit Studios in my eyes. Will update review on Steam if something changes regarding Children of Morta on GOG.
A cool coop adventure game, with an intricate plot. but on one screen, in hot seat it's nearly unplayable: too little a screen for evading and dodging enemies' attacks.
Very very good roguelike
The mechanics are interesting and you have to play all characters to max out all of the skill trees because some abillities overlap. Which i really liked tbh. I like leveling up and i like skill trees so i didnt mind a bit of grinding.
Other than the good progression you actually have a pretty good story. I actually listened to almost every conversation instead of skipping and stuff. The characters are well written for a roguelike game.
You can also play another gamemode if you finished the main story
Fast-paced gameplay and arcade style controls are quick to learn and offer a decent feel of skill progression. The world is cool and the storyline is quite rich, if a bit cheesy at times. Just enough difficulty to make the stakes feel high. I like this game as a way to escape for 20-30 minutes, feeling refreshed and focused when I go back to other tasks.
I want to love this game. It has enough good ideas that you can see the great game that it could have been, but instead falls short in so many ways and becomes all the more frustrating to play because of it.
Time and care went into much of the design, while other (mostly gameplay-related) decisions are baffling. Visual design of the house that serves as the hub between levels, as well as the background artwork? Gorgeous and intricate. Visual design of the levels themselves? Generic, boring, and extremely repetitive. Design of the characters, to make them each have distinct personalities and playstyles? Fantastic. Combat? Grindy, repetitive, somehow both too fast and too slow.
It feels like the devs really love the lore of the family they created and spent the majority of their time polishing the hub world and crafting the story, and that the actual gameplay was an afterthought. Which is a shame... It's frustrating to play a game that could've been so much better.
Absolutely beautiful pixel animation and narrative storytelling. The gameplay is like Diablo, but with roguelike elements that remind me of Dead Cells.
If you want to buy this game strictly for the multiplayer experience - dont. It's unplayable due to lags even when the connection is fine. You will be very frustrated during the online sessions, when the lag, not your reflexes will kill you.
Multiplayer mode is out for a couple of months now, but it still has this sorts of issues.
tldr; Overall the game is really nice, but if you're planning to play coop - I do not recommend. Coop mode was realeased long time ago and it can be very annoying to play it (is nooone working on this game anymore? If so why are you charging for incomplete features?).
It is really heartbreaking to leave a negative comment on such a game. Cool storyline, amazing pixel graphics, fun mechanics. All plays well here... untill you enter coop mode.
I convinced my friend to buy it and play it together. Unfortunatelly, online coop mode is kind of trashy. Person invited to my game does not develop his own charactes - all progress is only saved on my account. So we both are exping my charactes only. Also there are sync problems for person who was invited, his hero is teleporting back and forth, dying from attacks he dodged at his screen (even with decent connection and minimal ping). You can find multiple threads online about it. Shame it didn't got decent net code, just bare minimum so it can be categorized as coop. For me it's a dealbreaker as ppl pay money just to be able to play online.
I'd be comfortable buying separate, coop-only version of this game, providing that it would actually work without any problems.
good simple fun. Nice story with wholesome message.

Content and Replay Value
Children of Morta is a narrative focused roguelite game. Therefore, by nature it has a high replay value. You play as multiple members of the Bergson family, each with their own distinct playstyle. Each dungeon you run through is procedurally generated with little bits of secondary story sprinkled throughout. The game encourages you to change family members for each run because character levels gained ARE NOT shared. The game penalizes overuse of characters so that you level each family

Should you get it?
This can be a quick palette cleanser game. More so if you’re into the roguelite genre. But if you’re not into roguelites, you should stay away from this game. It doesn’t do anything to reinvent the genre. Just its own unique spin. If you are into the genre, I’d suggest getting this game because it has a reachable ending

Setting and Writing:
In Children of Morta you follow the Bergson family, Guardians of Mount Morta. They are tasked with curbing an impending doom name, wait for it, the Corruption. And this corruption is spreading rapidly. When playing as your selected family member you delve into cities with ancient spirits that have been locked away by the corruption. Freeing these spirits gives you answers on how to stop the corruption. The story telling is a bit dark but has a heartfelt cliché type ending. What is worth noting is the neat side stories riddles in the zones. Some of them tell tales of triumph over others fighting the corruption. Others are gut-wrenching stories on how people and societies have succumbed to it. Children of Morta does better than most other roguelites in developing and telling its story. Most of that has to do with the tone of the story. Although its overall message is one of love, there is plenty of heartbreak.
Gameplay system & Bosses:
As stated previously, Children of Morta is a roguelite that plays like Diablo. It sports a top-down, 3 skill ARPG playstyle. With that information it is well known that you will die in this game. But with death comes increased power. As you make your way through dungeons your choice of Bergson will gain levels to make them stronger. With levels comes new powers, and with new powers come deeper runs to complete the mission. There are six Bergson’s plus one friend. Each have their own playstyle that fall into the following archetypes: balanced melee, glass-cannon rogue, crit monk, tank, rapid spell slinger, balanced archer, and midrange specialist. As you can tell there are a plethora of styles to choose from. With all these archetypes it gives plenty to choose from if choosing to play multiplayer. Children of Morta sports both online and couch co-op. Children of Morta strongly encourages you to pick a different member each run (if you don’t, you’ll receive a health and damage penalty during the run). Diversifying your playstyles will see you make your way to bosses that entrapped the spirits you’re trying to free. Each boss is a unique challenge, but not overly challenging
Quest, Mini-games & Challenges:
This game is straightforward (like all roguelites). Make your way through all the bosses. The unique aspect that I enjoyed was how side missions and in dungeon encounters happen. These stories tell interesting stories on how others are dealing with the corruption. Not every story has a happy ending which I appreciate. It is a grim time in the world and no matter what the family does to help, sometimes it just falls through. This lets you know that during these desperate times, not everyone can be saved. Children of Morta also has a challenge mode, but the story mode was good enough for me.
Miscellaneous (art, music, etc.):
The 16-bit art style is beautiful but hard to discern sometimes. If nothing else, it’s what delineates itself from the rest of its roguelite brethren. The music is very high fantasy but not memorable outside of the main hub area.
Love the game, solid roguelike. But the game has slight stuttering and does not support ultra widescreens which is a disappointment in 2024.
I feel like I should give it some more time, but honestly after 3-4 hours I just really do not feel compelled to play more. The game supports single player, but VERY clearly is built around playing with a second player to make the most out of all the characters. If you don't, some characters just feel like they just straight up suck, and it feels like that's intentional so that the other player can cover your weaknesses.
But then the second boss happens and you literally do not have enough dodge juice to avoid their attack patterns, and the only way around that is to either A: Get another player so they you can play it properly and keep their attention divided so you have a fair chance, or B: Play on an easier difficulty, and I'm a gamer so that ain't happening.
The story is really good, I'm not going to just take a big dump on it, but I cannot recommend this game to anyone who is seeking a solid single-player experience like I was. Maybe if I finally get another friend to play it with, I might change my mind, but it really sounded like this game could be played single-player and you could have a solid experience with it, but I just didn't have that experience.
I played this a lot more on console before getting it on steam, always loved the amount of story progression and how it doesn't feel as grindy as some other rogue lites can feel
I cannot believe I have never played this game before now. Holy poop! It's so good. Cheers
I suggest experience it, has a very interesting story and gameplay
you will not feel tired
I play this with my wife and we both enjoy the game. We've completed the main story and family trials with each character.
While the gameplay kept us returning, it was the characters who we remember most. The developers got it right with a story rarely told these days, which is about family.
I can understand if it's not everyone's cup of tea, but its uniqueness shines on its own. We'll done.
One of the best, if not the best, pixel arts I've ever seen. Solid story with gruesome moments, solid multiplayer experience with low latency.
This is a game where the journey is better than the destination, but I definitely recommend this journey. Completed in about 13 hours, 7/10
This is a very enjoyable game. Each dungeon run (even the ones which fail) feels worthwhile because of the various ways in which the characters and the overall family can invest to improve their abilities. Each of the family members play differently, offering lots of interest and variety. Definite recommend.
A great roguelike with a decent story and excellent mechanics
good coop game so far. i'm still at the beginning so don't take my opinions too seriously. despite the cons, i still recommend buying it because it's well-polished and fun to play.
pros:
- very beautiful, well stylized
- fluid mechanics
- good and creative classes
- simple skill build-up
- intuitive UI
cons:
- when dead, you should be allowed to select a camera view of your partners
- "main house hub" controls should be fully shared or at least fully visible to other people in coop so they can suggest/read upgrades
- like i said, i'm at the beginning of the game, but i'm feeling that bosses are easier than the rest of the dungeon, even playing on hard mode. hope i'm proven wrong in the future
it would also be nice if it were possible to switch characters in the middle of the dungeon
Great story. Interesting game play.
I play this game with my wife and it is one that we both enjoy because the story is about family and working together and the way the story is interwoven between the deaths is great. Also we really appreciate the artwork, I think it's the best pixel-art I've ever seen - the game is beautiful!
Felky Fun Meter
|----------|| [10/10] Massive fun!
Lots of characters to choose from, all having their own gameplay that made them unique and interesting to try even if it ended up not being my style for most of them.
Satisfying progression in the skill tree too ^^
I liked the story and the interactions between the characters a lot :D
Combat felt very fluid and enjoyable, difficult and/or punishing at times but fair; with a good enemy variety and bosses.
Artstyle is amazing and the animations are smooth.
Overall an amazing experience <3
Good game, nothing extraordinary, but nothing egregious either.
Truth be told, I dont know how one more review is going to really convince someone to play this game, but here goes.
My brother convinced me to pick the game back up after a played about an hour and didn't really like it. I've played rogue lites before, and this one felt like more of an adventure than anything, which was really kind of nice.
The characters their motivations, story progression, and the obtaining unlock-able characters felt organic and properly paced. There was enough tension in the story that it felt like I had to continue on, but not so much that I felt rushed. Something I quite liked was that each character had their own play style, and even if you didn't particularly like them, they still contributed to helping power up your favourite ones by way of passive traits that are shared among all of them. Narration is well done as well.
All in all, I've played for 25ish hours, and beat the game. I like to farm and be really prepared, so it took longer than necessary, and I was pretty damn overpowered by the time I got to the Big Bad Villain, and I curbstomped him. Don't feel bad for him, he really, really deserved it, and it felt great to watch the ending scene.
The game is not too long, not too short, and I'm happy with what I've played. If you've got the money, pick it up, if not, wait for a sale and play it over a weekend. (Also I only played it by myself, so no idea hoe coop is.)
Thanks for reading, take care!
Children of Morta requires too much grinding, making progression feel like a chore. The short duration of individual dungeon runs prevent any real sense of satisfaction. The story clips are unskippable and boring.
This is a wonderful charming game and especially great to play with a friend. The Bjergsons and their journey is so well done and the gameplay is fun to boot!
10/10 I love this game
mark is best boi
Writing an early review for this game feels a little strange. On one hand, I love a lot of the ideas they have. These types of games are great, and the flavor they've added to it is wonderful.
But at the same time the execution is lacking :/
Optimisation feels bad. Sometimes it gives me a whole lot of frames, while other times (in the same room, with no changes to the environment) it gives me half as many. It often looks like the frames come in bursts, so even though 40fps is not bad, it looks worse cause there's stutters in them. (running this on an NVIDIA GPU that's dealt with bigger games just fine).
Sometimes enemy archers shoot through walls (that I just saw my arrows on the same exact trajectory -to hit that enemy- bounce off of).
There's several categories of items you can pick up, but it's a challenge to keep track of what it means for something to be 'category a item', especially because clicking the 'tooltips' button only mentions "this is category a item' without actually telling you what that means, so now I need to look that up somewhere.
This one run I picked the wrong character, so I immediately went back to the house to repick that, which prompted another cutscene, cause the game assumed I did an entire new run, which meant I'd seen like 3 cutscenes in a row, while only having played two small dungeons.
Even early on in the story as I am at this point there were a couple things of dialogue that felt kinda weird, about the mother's relationship to the illness of a child in the story. Having gone through something similar with my mom, and having talked about that extensively with her; the framing was weird and uncomfortable.
I'm aware this genre of game requires you 'die' a lot, and redo dungeons before you actually finish them. But especially at the start there's a couple times it feels like they're just waiting for you to die so they can progress the story, which makes dying feel forced. "We made it so you can't win this level so you die and we can show you this cutscene" type of thing. I don't mind doing something multiple times. But it being a premeditated choice to have me die in order to progress the story is not something I as a player want to be made aware of.
I'm not sure why, but the gameplay gave me the impression the game doesn't know what pace it wants to work at. It's like it wants to fit the genre, but also wants to adhere to a style that won't allow for the same types of movement or pacing. And it keeps me from enjoying it the way it deserves to be.
I know most of these are minor things, and by all means, this game could very well be something for you. There is a lot to love. But all of it added up made it so that for me, personally, I quickly became uninterested in playing on.
Its nice at first, but gets really repetitive. coop doesnt work too greatly. nice story really, but i expected it to be a roguelike as in choosing different abilities per battle or level up, but no, they are tied to a character, which makes the game quite repetitive as you can only spam the same 3 or 4 abilities, dodge, spam abilities, dodge, etc.
Its OK, but i didnt find it particularly entertaining beyond that.
Well made game that is just not fun.
Narration is great, visuals are great, except the story is extremely slow and pretty boring. It just doesn't hook the player.
Combat is kinde fine, except it's full of annoying mechanics and turns into mess quite fast, lots of punishing mechanics and tons of monster with high HP makes it quite a slog.
Balance is pretty much nonexistent. You have 2 playable ranged characters which with enemy HPs/amount and lack of aoe play like "kite enemies for years till they die", and melee characters(I unlocked 4) which are not satisfying to play at all despite having bit more DPS and better aoe since you have too little windows of attacking on melee. If the game had twice less characters but they were balanced better each one, it would've been way better.
Powers are cool but there's close to no synergy, you just get power from relics/blessings, and that's basically all.
Progression is cool, you have levels of each character, and levels unlock powers, except as I said it's absolutely miserable to play on melee, so if you want your powers upgrades you have to suffer. And lvling is pretty slow.
I did act one, it was kinda fun while I was getting upgrades and all, but closer to the end of it everything slowed down significantly, act two made me want to just run from enemies and instead of killing them.
I decided to drop on act two because I'm not seeing fun to kite enemies for 30mins and doing that for six (or maybe more) more dungeons.
