floor is unkillable

bought this game when Left 4 Dead 2 came out, got nostalgic, downloaded it, faced with a new EULA that said I actually didn't buy the game all those years ago. Tricked! Got me!

How is this not fraud? I never accepted any EULA like this back in 2012 when I supposedly bought the game, but now I guess I never really owned it in the first place.

A pretty fun game to play with friends. I think it's a bit hard when I first changed from beginner level to normal one.

it a little old for me, and i dont know whether the multiplayer is working or not. But the single player is a good mind numbing carnage. if I got this game when i was 12 or 13, i would have appreciate it more. If you want to play it, buy it when it is on sale.

Killing floor 1 is the definition of dated game/old game
Killing floor 1 is really not any better than 2 but it's an experience.
I have probably a lot more bad things to say about it, but I'm not gonna say it. I'll let you find out them yourself If you choose to buy this game.
The only 3 bad things I'll say are moding is dead, all the Tutorials link to something to download, but it doesn't exist anymore. So I'm not sure what to do there.
Getting to the shop every round is a chore. So if you don't like that then I cannot recommend you buy/play this game
Last thing don't buy this game for full price, it's crazy that this game is listed for 20 bucks.
It's is not worth 20 bucks plus all the dlc.

Story

The story is very minimal. A biotech company called Horzine conducted genetic and cloning experiments in the UK. Things went horribly wrong when an experiment led to the creation of genetically modified mutants, also known as "specimens" or "Zeds". These creatures escaped containment and overran parts of London and southern England. A government cleanup operation fails, and chaos spreads. The cities fall, and the military struggles to contain the outbreak.

Gameplay

Killing Floor is a co-op survival horror FPS game. You are part of a small group of survivors — ex-soldiers, mercenaries, and civilians — who band together to fight wave after wave of horrific monsters, called Zeds, in an effort to survive. After the final wave you fight a boss. You earn money (Dosh) by killing enemies, which you spend at a trader between waves to buy weapons and armor. You can weld doors shut to keep the Zeds out, but they can destroy the doors.

A cool feature in the game is Zed-Time. A slow-motion effect that adds dramatic flair when scoring kills, especially headshots. It’s so satisfying to shoot headshots in this game.

There are 6 core Perks. Each Perk provides passive bonuses and weapon discounts, and levels up through in-game actions. Perks level up through specific tracked stats (e.g., headshots for Sharpshooter). Max level is 6. You choose your Perk at the start of a match, but can switch between waves. Each one is tied to a specific weapon class or role:

Berserker - Melee tank and crowd control.
Sharpshooter - Precision long-range killer.
Commando - Assault rifle expert and cloaked Zed spotter.
Medic - Team support and survivability.
Support Specialist - Shotgun powerhouse and a better door welder.
Firebug - Area denial and fire damage.

The game is designed for 6-player co-op but also playable solo. Way more fun to play with your friends than solo though.

Enemies & Bosses

All Zeds scale with difficulty and player count, becoming more aggressive and numerous. They can spawn from different directions, encouraging constant movement and awareness.

There are 8 different Zeds and 1 Boss:

Clot - The basic Zed, can grab you and immobilize you. Dangerous in numbers.
Gorfast - A faster melee attacker with a cleaver-arm. Stronger than Clots and hits harder.
Bloat - A fat, slow disgusting Zed that will vomit acid on you, and explodes in bile on death.
Husk - A ranged Zed that is equipped with a powerful flame cannon. It fires a flammable ranged attack that pierces armor and deals continuous damage to those hit by it.
Stalker - A cloaked and stealthy Zed. Dangerous in numbers.
Crawler - A fast spider-like Zed that moves on all fours. Jumps and lunges at the player. Dangerous in numbers.
Siren - A screaming psychic Zed. Emits a deadly sonic scream that damages players through walls and destroys grenades mid-air. Don’t let her get close, especially if there are many.
Scrake - A mini-boss type Zed with a chainsaw. Calm and walk until provoked (takes a certain amount of damage) and then enrages and sprints at the player. Teamwork can be key to surviving this enemy.
Fleshpound - A mini-boss and the most dangerous Zed with a glowing chest and massive bladed arms. Enrages when taking too much damage too quickly or on sight of players. Deals devastating melee attacks. Requires strong coordination to bring down.
The Patriarch - The final boss after all waves are done. Can cloak. Has a chain gun and rocket launcher. Heals himself up to 3 times by running away. Spawns additional Zeds during battle. Strategy involves coordinated damage to prevent healing. Trap him, then burst him down.

Environment

The maps are dark, gritty, and often claustrophobic, and vary widely in layout, style, and tactical challenges. There are different variations of maps such as industrial/facility maps, urban/street maps, outdoor/forested maps, and experimental/custom maps from the modding community. Every map has weldable doors where you can seal off paths to control Zed flow or protect chokepoints. Some maps encourage kiting (running and shooting in circles), while others favor holding tight chokepoints. Zeds appear from dark corners, broken walls, or sewer grates. Knowing these helps plan defenses.

Visual Design & Sound Design

The visuals are good for a game from 2009, and the Zeds look scary and disturbing. It looks dated playing it in 2025 though. Some maps can often be very dark where flashlights and muzzle flashes are your main light sources.

The sound design is good. Some sound cues are vital. Hearing a Siren scream or a Scrake rev his chainsaw gives players a chance to prepare. The soundtracks, heavy metal, kick in during combat and pumps you up for the action.

Constructive Criticism

Killing Floor is clearly designed for co-op, playing solo is less fun. There are no bots available to fill the empty slots either. Playing solo as a Medic or Support Specialist is basically useless and impossible to survive as. So there are some balance issues, even in co-op, where some Perks are far stronger than others, especially at high levels, where Sharpshooter and Support dominate, while Firebug struggles.

The UI is an outdated interface with a confusing Perk system. Making max level at 6 is a bit weird as well. The trader menus are slow and a bit awkward to navigate under time pressure, especially for new players. No real progression system or cosmetic unlocks either, except leveling your Perks.

Movement is slow and weighty, especially compared to modern FPS games. You have no sprint and jumping is very clunky where It feels like you should be able to jump up on for example a box, but the character doesn’t jump high enough. Feels like you just jump up 10 centimeters from the ground.

The Verdict

Despite the flaws, it’s a very fun co-op game that I had a lot of fun with back in the day. This is a good game, but Killing Floor 2 is much better.

A timeless masterpiece that started as a mod for UT 2004 and released on steam as a really good standalone game! Basically Left 4 Dead and Call of Duty zombies before these games was even an idea in a human's head. Despite the age of this game it's still a very peak COOP horror zombie shooter with friends or public servers with randoms! This game even after all these years still has a dedicated playerbase with active servers so it is not dead whatsoever. If you played KF2 before this just know you're going to experience challenging and unforgiving gameplay along with slow movement as in no ability to sprint, once you get the hang of it you'll have a blast! Unlike the sequel this game has a really creepy cool atmosphere love the rusty aesthetic many of the maps this game has, I can see why many people like this game over KF2 this game has some unique looks compared to the sequel. The soundtrack in this game is a banger gotta love some industrial tunes from zYnthetic and Dirge's metal music. Buy yourself this great classic (unless you already own it because you bought the deluxe edition of KF2) and skip modern day garbage zombie shooters like MWIII and BO6 zombies. This is a game that everyone should have in their Steam library! Since Killing Floor 3 is on the way I hope the prequel is just as good as this and the sequel.

The most exciting zombie killer game. It's very easy to play, without need of reading any tutorial. Just goes to action directly. I play it with mouse and a gaming keyboard and it feels great. You don't have crosshair but there's some free software for that and also some paid and cheap here at Steam. If you play without crosshair, it's good too because it adds extra stress and challenge. The music is calm but when zombies appear it switches to heavy metal, which is even more great!

This game is still, to this day, one of the best when compared to all its' competitors. How is it possible, that a game that's over ten-years old, outlasts both of its' sequels, and an infuriating wave of disappointing Zombie-Shooters every year?!!

It alright but i have no booty to play with

What turned into a simple mod formed into a great game with a heavy metal soundtrack (absolute plus) I just wished the game was more alive, Used to play this back in the day when I was younger and it still has the same charm it had all those years ago, Still has a small dedicated player base as well mostly Russian lol but they are chill. I still think the sequel is much better and more kick ass but the heavy metal soundtrack in this game takes me back and the soundtrack overall in general is really good, really fun mutant zombie killing fun to pass the time nothing too in depth or anything it's just fun.

This is a Floor that you can go Killing on.

Good game, simply better in aesthetic than the second and third game, but difficulty names are quite inaccurate - if Normal is that hard then I don't want to know what Hell On Earth is. There's also the problem of making private servers being quite confusing and difficult, so you have to resort to public servers. How fun.

BEST KILLING FLOOR GAME,

Интересная игра, но быстро надоедает, интересно смотреть на анимацию перезарядки вашего снаряжения. Ещё одна из причин почему игра так сильно бесит, я наиграл в L4D и считаю, что управление в KF это неудобно особенно в самом начале, связанный с прицелом как будто мне специально руки выворачивают при первом появлении на локации и длится это секунд 7-8. Боссов очень мало, Особых заражённых тоже, есть те, которые бесят, сама механика полностью бесит, к вам подходит заражённый и замедляет, а более точнее полностью останавливает и пока вы не отобьётесь дальше не пойдёте. При переходе на следующий уровень оружие не сохраняется и нужно покупать его заново, то есть заново копить деньги. Босс или любой NPC может зажать вас в углу и не дать возможности выйти вам из сложившейся ситуации, когда играете в Соло (режим для одного игрока). Скудный запас фраз у боссов. Платное дополнение к оружию, которое никакого эффекта, кроме хвастания скинов, которые даже продавать нельзя. Замедление времени и продавца никак нельзя пропустить.

Killing Floor 2 was even better.

Public Hell On Earth games are fair and balanced. Ask the 10 Scrakes and 4 Fleshpounds homing on my position to give me a big hug. Thank the local firebug for setting them on fire to make the hug even warmer :)

But in all seriousness KF1 is good except for leveling up certain perks,difficulty is challenging depending on the team. Also the M99 creates a black hole in anyone's bank account.

Interesting game, but already outdated

I have to say that this game manage to create incredible atmosphere and genuinely puts in a sense of tension when you're exploring certain maps trying to run. It feels a lot like a source game, but with a bit more of blood. Compared to the second game in the series, there are far fewer weapons and perks.

You can't skip the trader without mods and the hitboxes are a real problem. You'll often land what looks like a clean headshot, only for the damage to register on the chest. It's especially frustrating when you're playing solo and every shot matters.

There are also plenty of spots where you can get stuck, some animations can't be canceled, you can only sprint with the knife equipped, and healing requires manually selecting the syringe in your inventory, which really breaks the flow you need to not stress too much.

I think it would be a little better if I had a friend like me irl who liked these kind of old games to test it out and beat it together, getting all the achievements and having fun (and some rage because this game is so annoying sometimes hahaha).

Best zombie survival shooter without a doubt.

I have fond memories of playing this game at 3am on a school laptop with one earbud in to hear if my parents were in the hall. Game still holds up!

(To get around the 82 fps cap open your killingfloor.ini in the game folder and change the max fps string to 200. In game press ~ and type "netspeed 20000" without quotes)

Killing Floor 1 is almost timeless. The atmosphere, the look of the game, the amazing maps and the great weapon models, the weapon animations and sounds. The biggest issue with the game and the part that holds it back from being the best horde shooter ever is the hitboxes. There are plenty of videos on the internet that show that the hitboxes are completely broken, making headshots impossible unless you've studied the jank of this game and achieved a PhD in where the hitbox should be in X scenario. If you can't feel solid feedback from when you shoot, it leads to frustration.

The only reason I am recommending this game is because of the ScRN balance patch which fixes the hitboxes. If you are going to play this game, only play it using the ScRN mod or preferably find a server hosting the ScRN mod since it stores your progress. It adds in new weapons, more classes, and makes the game into the timeless masterpiece that it should have been on launch. The only issue with this method is that the balance patch is not 'whitelisted' meaning that any levels you gain when using it are locked behind either the server you're playing on or on your machine.

Also, if you buy this game, I can't recommend getting the full edition with all the DLC enough. When the game goes on sale, that full edition drops to around 13 dollars which is a fair enough price for such a great game.
