Awesome little game that i feel like you should absolutely buy and play.
The game is basically free and it's a fun little adventure game of sorts. You play through six short levels, each of which is a day from an office worker's mundane life. Each day is sort of a vignette from the employee's decades of soul-crushing service. The player character ages over time, getting slower and needing glasses towards the end.
You can also do drugs and jump from a 10 story window.
I played this game 4 years ago for 30 minutes and when I looked at the screenshots today I immediately smiled. This is one of the funniest and most memorable games I've played in a long time. I absolutely love the aesthetic, the humour, the sound, and the narrative. It reminds me of my youth as a computer geek while poking fun at my current office life. What a smart, witty, hilarious game.

It's like if they brought back the filter settings for MC and put them into a game that simulates an old sitcom/comic strip based on working in an office building.
A cross between Normality and Stanley Parable.
Absolutely worth the price of admission.

Payroll is basically poor man's Stanley Parable with a Windows 95 graphics touch!
Several endings! A lot to do! Walk around and fuck shit up! Okay maybe not that much, but it's still a decent game.
It's quite short but I do recommend it!
Hello everyone. First of all, I just want to say... wow... I was kind of blown away by this. I mean, it wasn't the greatest game ever, but after having like, $5 left over after purchasing Terraria, I felt like going out and finding some cheap, underrated games. And for $0.99, I really can't complain much.
The game is simple, graphics are in the style of Windows 95 FPS RPG games (which is a literal selling point, and part of why I personally bought it), and there are some seemingly ridiculously expensive Foil cards (I got one and it sells for about $3.28 so yeah, there's a little bit of a profit on buying a cheap game so thank you developers for making a small indie game that resulted in me being able to buy more small indie games! Seriously!) so I mean, what can you really complain about? I mean sure, it's only like, 5 levels long, and the game is kind of confusing on who you're supposed to interact with (the game shows your current objective on your cubicle's computer screen, but due to the low resolution of the screen and the low resolution of the character faces and objects like the Gold Watch, it's hard to make out who and what you're supposed to specifically look for), but there's a couple secrets, achievements, and even multiple endings! Yeah, multiple endings in a game made by two busy guys (seriously though, give these guys some credit, they put 11 months of work into the game as stated in the "Quotes" screen accessed from the main menu when you complete the game). Either way, I could praise this for the good things it does all day, primarily because it was cheap, but also because I genuinely enjoyed my time playing it, so let's talk about the cons of the game, huh? Alright, as discussed before, the game is only 5 levels long, and not even inherently long level either, and I blew through the game in about 15 minutes (blind speedrunning and stuff), so it's not hard to say that it could use a LITTLE padding... Another issue I had was that characters didn't have voices. I know, I know, it's the whole "95 experience" and whatnot, but there could've at least been dialog boxes or something, something that informed me, "Hey, this is what I'm saying instead of being a sawtooth sound byte!" Also, as stated earlier, I didn't really initially know where I was going, and the game wasn't too clear on that for the whole computer issue like I mentioned before. Another issue I had was after your character grows in age. Firstly, your character becomes slower which, okay, fine, that's realistic, but from your "young" character, it feels REALLY slow, but the real issue I have with that is the fact that the glasses overlay is a tad intrusive to play with. Other than that, I really have nothing to complain about. There's really not much more to say about the game in general. If you're looking for a quick $1 time waster, I do genuinely suggest this game.
For the price, this is great. The build is solid, the music is catchy and fitting for the environment you're in. The art style and graphics is very nostalgic in my opinion, since the aim was to look like a game from the 95/98 era, the devs totally nailed it.
Multiple endings are a nice touch, I finished them all in not too much time, however, it still added onto the replay value.
Even though there is no dialoge throughout the entire game, I still understood everything I needed to do just by checking the monitor in the office cubicle or just looking at stuff for a minute.
Final thoughts: If you enjoy relaxing simple games that are short and simple, it's a smart purchase; even if not, you might still like it.
Ehh I'd pass on Payroll. After first turning it on, I thought this felt like it could be something special, but the more I played it, it felt ho-hum. I think it looks beautiful, but the actual play was underwhelming. It could have been more abstract and dare I say edgy. Yes, it has a Stanley Parable feel, but none of the heart.
I will say that it's a decent achievement hunting game to 100%. Getting all of the achievements is fairly easy and there is a sweet guide to help you. The gameplay is certainly far superior to most cash-grab achievement based games.
Essentially, this is a walking simulator with a series of fetch quests, and some interesting secrets. It is very short; in fact one of the achievements is to simply play the game for 2 hours. Controller support is nice, and the whole game feels polished. The dev obviously put a lot of care into it. I just wish it was more of a thinkpiece.

-Ah, that music is too generic for me
-Not a whole lot going on, or to think about really
-Not something I care to play after getting all the achievements (compared to another short game - Thirty Flights of Loving, which I would showcase to friends)
-What is all that 'payroll' dialogue you forced me to sit through? It went on forever and didn't really make sense
It's cheap, this is true. Buy it if you are looking to get fairly decent games to 100%, but if you are looking for something with the quality and tone of The Stanley Parable - I fear you will be disapointed.
This game can be compared with The Stanley Parable. Walk around and do what is asked of you... or don't.
As to the gameplay, Payroll is most definitely inferior. Less options, less of a game overall to play.
Graphically while The Stanley Parable is more impressive, Payroll has a fun style that I haven't seen in a while.
As to the achievements, Payroll wins without a doubt. There aren't any bullshit achievements, like "Play 24h on a Tuesday" and "Have an erection during the baby minigame". Getting the achievements in Payroll made the game way more fun and it also made my try and figure out what I can even do in the game.
Plus, it's way cheaper than The Stanley Parable.
This game is a case of "great concept, poor execution".
In Payroll, you assume the role of an office drone. The game is meant to feel like a windows 95 era throwback, and captures the spirit of the era with it's simple mechanics and 256-color graphics. Unfortunatley, that's about all it gets right.
The gameplay is frustrating, and you are only given the most cryptic of indications of what you are supposed to be doing. Every character "speaks" in a manner reminicant of the adult dialogue in a Charlie Brown cartoon. The tasks are menial, and there is pretty much zero fun to be had. You're better off watching old reruns of "The Office". I really can't find a single reason to reccomend this game to anyone. Don't waste your time.
This game is pretty fun, I love the soundtrack. It took me a second to see my objectives, but I figured it out. IT's definitely worth the price.

What is Payroll? Well, I'll leave the philosophizing to the eggheads in thinktanks, because I'm a Gamer. As a gamer, I'm always looking for fresh and exciting new digital experiences chock full of immersion and graphics. Payroll, as they say, fits the bill nicely. If you've never wondered just how high (or low!!!) of a score you can rack up in a simulated 3D role-playing environment, while being involved in a powerful emotional narrative that makes Dilbert look like something for babies, well, can you really call yourself a Gamer? 'Nuff said.
This game is something to behold. It is committed to the idea that this is a lost game from Windows 95. Starts off hard, but gets easier once you know where to find the objectives. (hint: computer)

Imagine stanley parable, but 20 minutes long and looks like it's from 1995.
Pros: I love the graphics, has multiple endings (about 5 endings), what you do affects your rank in the end (slacking off by taking LSD, going to the bathroom without washing your hands, and snooping around, lowers your rank).
Cons: No randomly generated tasks so when you beat the game you're just playing it again to get a different ending and achievements, the game is a little too short but the price justifies it.
Overall, I recommend it. Very good game indeed 8/10
