- STEALTH MECHANICS - Fade into the darkness that is silence.

- SKINS - We know you love'em
- 4K HDR GRAPHICS - Gotta get in on them buzzwords.

I bought this game because I found the concept very interesting, and this could have been a hell of a gem if the devs would have kept working on the game.
This game is dead and always has been dead since launch. It's another game stuck in Early Access limbo that will never be finished. Don't waste your time with this one.
it is very creative and unusual, especially on the maps that literally want you to fail (hello, rooftops!). You literally have to pick between running and being visible to everybody miles away or stay quiet and see NOTHING! Obviously you have a 'pulse' that shows you things in the distance and up close, but everybody else can see it too! Pretty fun, but not too much variety in maps and guns...WE NEED MORE CONTENT! the game is great though!
no lobbies, website and discord link go to a gambling website, game hasnt been updated and twitter hasnt posted since 2019, game is dead and abandoned
Such a fun mechanic, too bad there's no one to play with
I am pretty dissapointed. I expected this game to be at least fun, but right now there almost no players. Almost every game is filled with bots. Also there are pretty uncofortable controls. Maybe I will comeback in a year or so, but right now this game is too raw.
Incredibly good concept, but needs a lot of work to be done, gun rework is needed, as the recoil is questionable at best, since first bullets are accurate but the travel speed is insanely slow, plus no specific hitbox that defines which is what, a headshot is the same as hitting the toe, its that just some guns take away more health than others (because of the bullet spread), although handgun is quite broken because the recoil restarts pretty fast, especially compared to the rest of the arsenal, and because of the distance travel, if you have decent aim, you can calmly kill everyone from a distance, not needing long range weapons, and up close just spam with it and you're good, the shotgun with the spread/bouncing bullets (or whatever they are) is really cool concept but its range is close up of course, because although you could hit from a longer range the travel of bullets is so slow its way to easy to dodge, the sub-machine/rifle is laughable, short range its alright i guess, although the delay on that gun is terrible, and sometime even up close because of the their recoil system and super slow cooldown time, you will get destroyed by a spamming pistol. sniper rifle is garbage, hard to aim, no scope, and sort of slow travel bullet time, but if you do get a hit and someone is full health it will do nearly no damage, and you have to finish them of with 4-5 bullets with a pistol, and i believe the rocket launcher is a one hit kill only if its directly on target, and if you manage to hit a tiny corner in front of you you will be dead, so you can't really be sneaky about it. recoil is bad although if you play behind a wall and wait for it to cool down and repeak that is one way of doing, or being super up close but trying to be behind the enemy because you'll need time for recoil/gun firing restriction to cool down before shooting and needing a solid 4 hits on them, so best is preying on those who are almost down or sprinting and doing a b-hop of sort which can help you get faster to your destination, and never trying to play long distance. there are no objectives besides kill this x amount before round ends, and since the game is pretty dead, you'll be mostly playing with bots. and all the other guns are absolute trash, like the smoke grenade launcher and decoy gun, they are too obvious and you will be spotted, too linear and too short of an effect, if it had some team based Incentive like cs:go, rainbow six, or any other military tactical shooters, then it would be useful and fun. all in all, has great potential since the echolocation is very new and could be experienced with to bring a new experience as well as it having low expectation for a need of a high end computer, a potato will do just fine. with all this the fact that every step, crouch a shot, or a sonar signal sent out to see the outline of the map is really cool as the enemy can see you for a short time, and you too can locate them with you sonar if they are trying to be sneaky, as well as the fact that if you don't have quite the info on the map but you are nearby you see ripples of sound of where the person is, and having sound now being more important than ever, i'm really hoping and waiting for any further updates, and hopefully the devs listen and have time to put into this game to improve it, as they themselves want it to be in the e-sports, so its up to them to make it happen, and up to us to keep them motivated
recap; guns need rework (recoil because to slow of a cooldown and no pattern, bullet travel time, and balancing/rebalancing the guns), echolocation is great but needs to be implemented in some sort of a goal (team based goal of sort, 5v5, capture the flag, hide and seek, etc), hitboxes (adding different damage to each part of body), and movement could be changed a little since it feels a little wonky and slow and sprint does feel fast but only works if you go in one direction.
and for now i would still recommend the game because of its potential and game changing possibilities, but at this early state i would hold of for now and look for updates in the future
TL;DR: basically Toph simulator with guns set in the future
great early access, great concept, smooth gameplay, easy to get the gameplay, just sad that the players aren't here to play it, i hope this game will get the player-base he needs and deserve. The cosmetics are really nice btw.
if the development of this game continu the way it's going now, this will be a really great game.
the aim isn't shaky, the weapons really feel different and great.
the sound spatialistion is really good, and that's oen of the most importatn things to have on this game.
i'll recommend this game to everyone i can, because it feels really great to find an fps like this.
> conclusion:
great game, low player-base (sadly), good gampelay, good sound spatialisation, graphisme are perfect the way they are (the game was running at 60fps on my crappy laptop). It feels great to have new experiences like this gae when all the fps are starting to look the same.
play it, you'll like it :)
Possibly one of the coolest ideas for an fps I have played since SUPERHOT
Only downside is that there are not many players. But this shouldn't discourage you. The more people buy this game the more players there will be, so don't not buy it just because there aren't many players. That's just making it harder for the game to grow. Help it grow. You can always play against bots in the meantime. If you are looking for players go to their the official discord.
Even though I haven't played this game much, I think it's a very cool and unique game. The only Issue I really have with it is that I can never find lobbies with other people since there's not many people who play it.
This game is great but repetitive. i think the sound mechanics have to be tweaked and i wish i had customiztion of the colors.
As a game maker i know some customization is easy-ish. changing colors should be easy and i sound like a know-it-all but simple tweaks will make this a great game
also the lack of players isn't your fault but it kinda sucks
It's a great idea with a lot of potential. It was fun to play, even with the little content it had.
Unfortunately, it's dead.
Largest (and only) server I haf was one I hosted with bots that had 2 people join at one point.
It's fun, but it's dead.
I would not buy it right now.
Its a frustrating game even if you are really good. You have to contantly right click and it gets annoying. Also the fact that the hipfire sight is anoying. Otherwise it's a good game, just not for me. For me it's a no but I can see other people saying yes to this game so I guess I will give it a yes.
So far I have played 1 game and it is fun a different way to play multiplayer but is great and i look forward to updates in the game and how they change it.
Highly recommend this game.
The controls feel like old school FPS games, and the beautiful twist of Echolocation really levels the playing field for the more 'advanced' gamers out there. The gameplay is great and only getting better. The devs are really into feedback and are really trying to make the best possible game they can AND IT SHOWS.
As of right now, player base is small but I have watched it grow over the course of a few weeks. Join the ranks! Fight the good fight using echolocation and kick some A**!!! I hate multiplayer online games, but this is one I can see myself enjoying for a long time.
There is gun variety that changes your play style, neat little gadgets like the decoy gun to lure out your enemies, close quarters and wide open space combat, and a unique style of gameplay you wont find anywhere else.
This is a very unique FPS game that is a blast to play! Still needs some polish, for sure, but I cannot wait to see where this goes! Devs are super friendly, too!
I usually prefer to cover horror games, but seeing how I also have a love for multiplayer games and the team who made horror games like Stifled and Lurking, I wanted to give their newest sound-based game a shot. Here's the usual gameplay insert, all that good shit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkZGCDMYLe4

Enough blatherin', let's get to why I genuinely believe this game has such a high appeal to me and many others.
This FPS requires your hearing as much as your visuals. You're practically blind, stumbling about in a dark, monotone environment. The only guide lines you'll recieve are... well, literal guide lines represented as white sound waves. Every single action has a reaction, each scaling in magnitude depending on the loudness of said action. Players must keep this in mind as they hunt each other down to kill them in a classic deathmatch fashion. Currently, deathmatch is the only available mode with three maps to chose from, but at least there are bots so you never feel alone, and you can host a server to play with your chums. There's even a quick play feature to hop right into a match almost flawlessly, as well as a rewarding level-up system where you don't rely on paying for a boost; you get what you get by actively playing and getting good. That's how a shooter should be nowadays, nothin' but using skill in order to reap in the rewards with no bullshit buyable pass.
With this said, people have claimed the game to become too stale and chose to refund it until it has more to it. From speaking with the developers within a stream, I get the feeling they want to add more, and mind you, I'm typing this as it's still in early access, so... chill people, lol. They still have a while yet before the full product is 100% done.
This game has so much potential to be a great multiplayer game, but the dev team should make sure to take the right steps in order to do so. Between the unique sound-based combat and seamless connection, you're guaranteed a blast that'll last for a long while. Additionally, you can visit their Discord channel and stay up-to-date with news, as well as visit their Twitch to view the developers play with their followers! An active team talkin' to an active community? Now that sounds like a nice gig for me. Thanks for readin', and I hope this review was helpful enough for ya. Have a great day, folks.
A fresh new take on the tried, tired, and true arena shooter genre.
This review is written on the initial 1.0 Early Access version.
Gameplay
The game is a multiplayer-only shooter where up to 8 players can connect together in a room. Each round typically plays up until the time limit is hit or until someone hits the score limit. Players are connected via Steam's matchmaking services; there is currently no dedicated server available for the game.
The only available mode now is a free-for-all deathmatch, where players must kill anyone they encounter to score. The game currently as 3 maps; Mansion, Open Plains, and Sewers. The way to experience these maps is what makes this game truly different from others on the market; you have to make noise to see your surroundings. Noise can be made by shooting your gun, your projectiles hitting surfaces, moving, and right-clicking to fire a sonic bullet that "lights" up the desired location for a second using sound waves. Occasionally, lightning may strike which will light up the whole map because of its loud sound. Conversely, if no sound is being made, then everything will be pitch black and nobody can see anything.
Players start with the trusty pistol and can pick 4 more weapons on the battlefield such as the 3-round Burst Rifle, the shotgun-like Flakgun, the Sniper Rifle, and the Rocket Launcher. When players are respawning, they can pick a spawn bonus weapon that includes any of the 4 aforementioned weapons as well as 2 harmless respawn-exclusive weapons; the Smoke Launcher and the Decoy Gun (which can distract even seasoned players in the heat of the moment despite them only walking in a line before disappearing). Weapons will be less accurate as you keep firing them, and you must wait a bit for them to cool down to be accurate again. All guns shoot projectiles at varying speed; there is no hitscan in the game. There is no armor system in the game, and the only form of health items are +30 health pickups are scattered around the maps.
In terms of movement options, the player usually moves at a walking pace but can speed up by sprinting forward (changing directions will cancel the sprint). Players can sprint-jump for a powerful lunge forward, which can also be used to climb over ledges to reach certain items on the levels. Crouch-walking can also be used to make less sound and thus revealing less of yourself to other players. Weapon spread is unaffected by movement, so feel free to jump and crouch-spam and sprint as you shoot.
Presentation
The game's graphics are simple and blocky. There are no textures to be seen as everything is only in black and white. There is also no music in the game. Sound effects are nothing groundbreaking, but not bad enough to break immersion.
There is a basic leveling system (up to lv20) that unlocks customization items that you can use to customize your in-game avatar. The items are grouped into 3 categories; Head, Torso, and Legs; each change the body part based on the category. There are currently 6 sets of items in the game; Default, Bounty Hunter, Boxy, Knight, Mannequin, Skeleton, and Wraith.
Settings are rather simplistic; there are only 2 categories, Video and Audio. In Video settings, only screen resolution and fullscreen toggle can be changed. In Audio settings, there's a slider bar for Master volume, SFX volume, and a BGM volume for the non-existant BGM. This is not that much of an issue though due to how simple and optimized the game is.
Story
The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic future where mankind has been blinded by the beauty of Half-Life 2: Episode 3 and created soldier robots that uses echolocation to attack other human factions so as to obtain the sole copy of HL2: Ep3 on the planet. However, the robots turned on their human masters in the end because they also wanted that copy of HL2: Ep3 for themselves. Now the robots are stuck in a eternal war among themselves due to the prophecy foretelling that the final living being alive shall receive HL2: Ep3 straight from Lord Gaben himself.
Just kidding, the game has no story.
Conclusion
In the end, the game is a creative take on the arena shooter genre thanks to its echolocation mechanic but is rather short on content that'll keep people coming back. As it is, it's only suitable for skirmishes among friends.
However, what truly sets this game apart from all the other multiplayer-only shooters on the market in recent years (whether indie or AAA) is that it has bots for offline play; a feature essential to friendless folks such as myself. Players can create a room with up to 7 bots that'll leave whenever another human player enters the room. Bots normally walk around the map in search for weapons but they'll strafe, jump, and crouchspam upon sighting an enemy. There is no difficulty options for the bots, but they should be challenging enough for people of all skill levels.
Thanks to bots, I can play with myself even if there is nobody else around to play the game after WW3. Ultimately, I'd say that bots are what makes this game worth your money even if you're only buying to see how well the game holds up.
Lots of fun! Simple and easy to learn as its like any FPS....
except you/other can't see anything unless you move or shoot.
Sneak around or react faster!
I fully understand this is an early access game, changes may or may not have been made to it since my review.
Muffled Warfare is a very interesting concept of a game. An echolocation FPS game seems like a really cool idea, but there are some issues.
The game feels very bland and one-sided.
After playing a few matches in random lobbys through quick join, the game starts to get really repetitive and boring quickly. There's only a few different maps to play on that seem very "whoever can crouchjump the most and click fastest" wins maps. And while the game is based around being seen if you make sound. It was hard for me to tell if I was visible to other players or not, Sometimes standing still and being shot thinking I was invisible happened quite often.
Weapons
Most of the weapons are basic. Pistols, burstrifles, snipers. But then there's a couple that seem kinda useless. I had yet to ever use the smoke grenades or decoy ammo when I recieved a spawn bonus. They don't really stand out that much and provide much use.
Some of the better parts.
I find a good bit of the map design interesting. I find the thunder lighting up the whole map a pretty cool feature.
The cosmetics are also pretty nice, theres no microtransactions or anything for them and you have to play the game to unlock them. Though you most likely won't be seeing them much, as everyone in the game is blind.
Personal suggestions.
I would LOVE to see some kind of team-based gamemode in this, and maybe a voicechat too. A visibility detection system for your hud would also be nice. I'd also love to see more unique weapons.
I think this game has lots of potential. I'll be returning back to it another time for sure. But for now I'll pass.
So, what have i got to say about this game, It's... A really unique experience. A sound FPS shooter.
It is still in development and yet it's doing great so far. For anyone who want to try a really unique FPS game, this one is for you.
10/10
Worth every cent.
