Its either cheaters or sweats that seem to be cheating but they are not
very good game but dead servers unfortunately GAY-BEN DO SOMETHING
I personally had more fun with this over Counter Strike GO, which is now CS2 which is a shame.
I originally bought this game to fix some missing textures and errors in Garry's Mod. I never played a Counter-Strike game before, but I got bored and played this since it was in my library. I can say that this game is fun enough that I can enjoyable play this game in a server full of bots rather than actual players. Since this game was released in 2004 this game is also great for older hardware.
run on cheap pc with i5 core 3470 and intergarted ghraphics (HD) at a smooth frame rate would recomend.
Too many cheaters. That is sad, the game is fun.
Good game on windows and macOS (ew, macOS sucks for gaming...) BUT. I literally cannot get it working on linux mint, it just crashes when I try to make a match or do the video stress test! OG Counter-strike works perfectly fine, but I can't find a way to spawn in bots.
if no cs2 play this, this game has no vac and has better movement and is closer to csgo. 10/10
It's improved version of Counter-Strike 1.6.
It has bots, good UI, good animations etc.
I loved it.
i never played before but i wanted to surf again and cs2 surf doesn't work so i bought this and this game has better surf than any other game i must've been living under a rock, feels so good its unbelievable
$14 is expensive and I'm lucky I got it on 80% off but honestly for 4GB of space this game slaps so hard.
Offers some really good interactivity in maps such as shooting barrels or hanging lights and plays smooth as butter (1000fps from RTX3050 go BRRRR).
For it's release date the graphics arent bad in the slightest and definitely still hold up today especially seeing as though practically any PC can run it at 60FPS MINIMUM nowadays.
The only use case I can think of is how dead the servers are. I missed the point in time when this game was hot shit and now I don't get the opportunity to see full lobbies.
10/10 game though, CS2 needa take notes on this shi
Counter-Strike: Source is an amazing entry in the Counter-Strike series. The maps are incredibly detailed, and the graphics still hold up well, especially for a game from 2004. The bots are memorable, they’re smart, fun to play against, and some of the funniest bots I’ve ever seen. The movement mechanics are smooth and satisfying, making the gameplay enjoyable. While the player base has shrunk over the years, you can still find some active servers if you search hard enough. Personally, I think Counter-Strike: Source is worth getting just for the textures and models it adds to Garry’s Mod.
Overall, it’s a fantastic game that’s still worth checking out, especially if you’re looking for more content for GMod.
Came back to CS after years, tried CS2, and while it's solid, CS: Source just hits differently. There's a certain rawness to it—whether it's the way the weapons handle or how movement feels less restricted. The older engine and somewhat outdated mechanics actually make it feel faster and more unforgiving, which adds to the challenge.
For anyone looking for an alternative to the newer CS games, this is still a great pick. The servers are alive, the community is still kicking, and if you enjoy old-school, no-nonsense FPS gameplay, Source delivers. Definitely worth playing if you’re into fast aiming and that classic CS feel.
Bro this game is still a Gem to me. Only for the Zombie escape mode though, which i will always enjoy and love.
This game has been pretty fun so far. The only problem I have encountered is finding servers to play on. Many servers are empty, have plugins with very loud music and/or weird visuals and some servers have like 3 real players and 20 bots.
If you're able to find a normal server the game is actually really fun!
Best CS in the existence without this CSGO wouldnt exist, and it is better than CS2, 100 tick servers, very easy on PC etc.
I was only a year old when this game came out. Got it because my computer can't handle cs2, and also because I'm not sure I want to support it in the first place. There's still people running servers on this game. with old, friendly communities. I don't expect css to suddenly become mainstream in the modern day, but I think more people should at least give it a chance. Lots of fun to be had, with decent graphics and satisfying gunplay. Classic Source fun.
Awesome game. Even community servers are fun. I could say this is one of the best in Cs series, mixing simplisity of 1.6 and most map detail of CSGO. Perfect game for bad computers, even has better hitreg than cs2.
I don't even know where to begin with this game. It's genuinely amazing. The recoil, spread, movement is all amazing. Plus it can be both casual and competitive the requirements on this game is very low so your average random laptop could run it. It's also worth the money better than both CS:GO and CS:2 in my opinion.
After the new update i tried playing it after a long time, however for some FUCKING REASON it triggered my Microsoft Firewall :l I Love the new TF2 SDK trust me but at least you dont have to fuck up all the other games, am pretty sure it fucked up DOD:S too not sure but am not risking it... Thanks VALVE very cool. Also now its just only useful for gmod unless VALVE would actually care to fix this.
it is undescribable how funny this game is, i love speaking to raging russians who cant speak english
Its fun, but the sever browser is overran with spam and there isn't a way to play the vanilla game. Sure you can find S&D severs, but its still modded.
Booted up the 64-bit update, saw the server browser flooded with fake servers. Also triggered my firewall. Good job, Valve.

📜 Overview
Counter-Strike: Source is a first-person shooter developed by Valve and released in 2004 as part of the Counter-Strike series. It is a remake of the original Counter-Strike game, utilizing the Source engine, which allowed for enhanced graphics, physics, and environmental interactions. Players are split into two teams: the Terrorists and the Counter-Terrorists, competing in rounds to complete objectives such as planting bombs or rescuing hostages. The game is known for its tactical gameplay, emphasis on team coordination, and its strong competitive nature.
🌟 Pros
✅ Updated Graphics and Physics – The Source engine gives Counter-Strike: Source superior visuals and realistic physics, enhancing immersion, especially in environmental destruction and character animations.
✅ Tactical Gameplay – The game continues the Counter-Strike tradition of strategic, team-based gameplay that requires communication and coordination between teammates.
✅ Balanced Gameplay – CS: Source offers a wide variety of weapons and tactics, with no one weapon being overwhelmingly powerful, making for a balanced experience.
✅ Strong Competitive Scene – Counter-Strike: Source helped build the competitive FPS scene and has a strong community of players and regular tournaments.
✅ Modding and Customization – The game has a thriving modding community, allowing players to create custom maps, skins, and game modes.
⚠️ Cons
❌ Outdated Visuals for Modern Standards – While the Source engine improved visuals from the original Counter-Strike, the game’s graphics may still feel outdated compared to newer FPS titles.
❌ Steep Learning Curve – New players may struggle to understand the mechanics and map strategies, especially when matched with veteran players.
❌ Player Base Decline – As newer Counter-Strike titles, such as CS:GO, have been released, the player base for CS: Source has dwindled, making it more difficult to find consistent, active matches.
❌ Limited New Content – With the release of CS:GO, CS: Source has received fewer updates and new content, which can make it feel stagnant over time.

🎯 Final Verdict
Counter-Strike: Source remains a solid, competitive FPS that benefits from its tactical gameplay and tight controls. While its visuals may feel outdated by today’s standards, the game still offers an engaging and balanced experience for fans of competitive shooters. However, with the increasing popularity of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, the player base for CS: Source has dwindled, making it a better fit for those seeking a nostalgic or more casual Counter-Strike experience.
I'm usually not a big fan of shooters, I only bought CS Source for Gmod to work properly, but one day I thought I'd give the game a shot, I joined a 24/7 deathmatch server and is was bloody amazing
There is never a moment that you're bored in a deathmatch server, the constant chaos and shootings is just so exciting and fun, as well as the amazing maps and controls
Cmoon now STEAM ! Why the last update ?!?!???! It ruined many servers !!!! The game is perfection since the beginning ! Never needed any updates never-ever-never !!!! As always, to almost any programs-softwares, UPDATES FUCKS AND SUCKS ! For that reason everyone wants/needs downgrades !!
good game also needed for some garrys mod stuff so even if u dont get it to play it its worth it
Great game but the 4played servers are filled with snowflakes
My personal favorite Counter-Strike game. both this game and the Original (1.6) are such good and fun games.
I've been playin this game for years and can say with certainty. this was the best CS version released of it's time and still gives the same hype and fun it always have. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
One of the best Counter Strike games. Probably because I never actually played much of other CS games (due to the fact that I have a weak ahh laptop) but this CS brings back memories from when I first played, around 2018. Bussing game, 10/10.
10/10
Amazing game with fun movement, mods which let you customize the game to your heart's content, and with the new update, you can host private matches and invite friends via steam, meaning just you and your friends can play without having to join a random server and pray nobody joins. Great game!
It's a great game which i used to play alot in my childhood. I probably have more hours on de_dust2 in this game than in I do in school.
There's a big variety of gamemodes like surf, bhop or kz which are all hella fun, have a big skill ceiling & they are also rewarding since u can adapt certain skills into the normal gamemodes such as war, pcw or gather.
Nowadays this game seems unplayable out of private sessions with friends on ur own server.
Online is flooded with russian servers packed with plugins, skins, sounds and so on which makes CS:S more like an ADHD fest.
German servers are the more authentic ones but they are often leaded by admins which act like The Führer himself. They have absurd rules such as no bhopping, limited awps per team or they even tell you how you should name yourself on steam since they can't pronounce your name.
I love this game and it will always have a special place in my heart but nowadays It's a pain in the ass to play online.
I'll recommend it to everyone who enjoys the movement from the old Half-Life games. You can have a pretty nice time while playing bhop, kz or surf.
Otherwise stay away from it.
The last update broke everything down. Not only servers, but the mechanics. Especially the mechanics of jumping. Why did you touch what was already working? Why breaking the working thing?!
Think of 1.6 but in half life 2 graphics.
Basically the same as 1.6 but in the source engine, i recommend it, play it!
Feb 18 2025 Update is causing a lot of issues for many players including myself. Disappointing that it broke the game. I can't connect to servers. I'm hoping this isn't permanent. Also hoping this isn't an attempt to kill off the game.
Does anyone know of a way to roll-back the patches?
this new update Crashed the whole Counter-Strike Source Game servers the ones i love tho are zombie escape now i am worried this update we cant play zombie escape ever that Valve screwd the whole game up
after an absolutely unnecessary and unwanted update, there is no access to the servers, the game crashes when trying to connect, the display settings cannot be changed, they are at the lowest level
Counter-strike: Source, a game that has changed the way of how games works today is still an amazing game to this day with it's long history of Esports and general gameplay. It'll always be remembered as a great game with lots of love and respect
As of 2025, they've added Steam networking to allow you to invite and play, instead of relying on annoying modded servers that take years to join
VERY WORTH GETTING WITH A FRIENDS NOW!!!
9/10
I enjoyed a lot in the community servers. People are kind here compared to CS2. Graphics is good even it's a 2004 game. CS:S was there with me, experienced years of good time. Solid 9.3/10
a very awesome game
1st of all the pyshics and graphics are great
2nd it has bots unlike 1.6
Rating: 10/10
Counter-Strike: Source (CS: Source) is the definitive version of one of the most iconic tactical shooters ever created. Built on the Source engine, it brought stunning graphics, refined mechanics, and an immersive experience that kept players engaged for years. It improved upon its predecessor, Counter-Strike 1.6, and laid the foundation for future games in the series, including Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Here's why CS: Source remains a perfect 10/10 for fans of competitive gaming.
Why It’s a Must-Play
🔫 Precise Gunplay
At the core of CS: Source is its tight and rewarding gun mechanics. Every weapon in the game feels unique, with its own recoil patterns and handling characteristics. This precision-driven combat is one of the key factors that makes CS: Source such a compelling competitive experience. From the M4A4's controlled spray to the AWP's one-shot kills, every engagement requires skill and accuracy.
🌍 Map Design & Tactical Depth
The iconic maps like Dust 2, Inferno, and Nuke are where the game shines brightest. Each map is meticulously designed to offer a balance of tactical positions, choke points, and strategic opportunities. Whether you're defending bomb sites or pushing through tight corridors, the map design fosters deep teamwork and careful planning.
💥 Gameplay Mechanics
CS: Source features smooth, fluid movement, making it easy to peek around corners, hold angles, and strafe while shooting. The buy system gives players the freedom to choose their preferred weapons and gear, while round-based gameplay forces teams to be efficient with their resources and execute well-planned strategies.
🎮 Vibrant Community & Modding Support
The modding community for CS: Source has been incredibly active, creating a wealth of custom content from maps to skins to even entirely new game modes. This extends the life of the game by offering nearly endless ways to enjoy the experience. The server browser lets players dive into unique community-run servers, making every session feel fresh and exciting.
🎨 Improved Visuals
Powered by the Source engine, CS: Source delivered a massive graphical leap from its predecessors, offering realistic lighting, better textures, and advanced physics. These improvements gave the game a more immersive and polished feel, while the physics engine introduced interactive objects and destructible environments, adding a layer of depth to gameplay.
What Makes It a 10/10
CS: Source isn’t just a game; it’s a tactical masterpiece that’s stood the test of time. Its emphasis on team coordination, strategy, and individual skill is unmatched. Whether playing with friends or random players, the experience fosters a strong sense of community and competition, making each match feel meaningful. The team-based objectives – like bomb planting/defusal – combined with tight, tactical combat is a dynamic experience that few shooters can replicate.
The longevity of CS: Source is a testament to how well it was designed. While newer titles in the series (like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive) have taken inspiration from it, the smoothness of the gameplay, iconic maps, and endless customization options keep it relevant in the competitive FPS scene.
If you’re a fan of shooters and haven’t experienced CS: Source, you’re missing out on one of the most influential and well-rounded tactical shooters ever made. It’s a game that offers both depth and accessibility, making it suitable for casual players, yet still offering enough challenge for the competitive elite. CS: Source is a timeless classic—pure, competitive, and still as enjoyable today as it was when it first released.
So let's set the stage. The year is 2025 and you are looking for the perfect terrorism based first person shooter. You read on some gay website that Counter Strike 2 (Formerly Global O) is the best. So you download it and boot it up. You are all fired up for the game. So you join a lobby in Casual and its alright. You level up and become Competitive and are instantly struck by just how awful the game actually is. Just loads and loads of genuinely terrible people on both sides of the aisle. This is something you wouldn't want Hitler to play (because he doesn't know how to operate a computer him living in the 40s and all). So you go to the next best option (actually the real best option) called Counter Strike Source. In my house we call it Old Reliable. The first thing you notice is the lack of child pornography addicts in each lobby. The second thing you notice is the non-bloated UI. The third is the amazing gameplay. Easily the best gamemode is the 24/7 DeatMatch gamemode. Best played on A W P Clan Servers. This is the real deal, cream of the crop, Top of the Heap. This is heaven. This is everything CSGO wishes it could be. They say the greatest lie the devil ever pulled was convincing people that CSGO was good. So here is the Cheers to Counter Strike Source, the best installment of the series. Hopefully in the next 4 years Trump institutes a permenant irrevocable ban on Counter Strike 2. This would be amazing.
a slight upgrade to 1.6 and not a slop like CSGO/CS2
the fun of 1.6
a graphical improvement (we do not care about graphics)
a better engine
no gambling or skins
bhop
this game is a gem guys, you must try.
The switch to the Source engine brought improved graphics and physics, but the gameplay changed slightly. Fans of 1.6 were divided, but the game still stands as a solid classic shooter.
No skins but great
Better graphics
Still have more than thousand players
Not much toxicity unlike CS2
Modded servers are good, especially for TDM
If you love shooters, Counter-Strike: Source is a game you HAVE to try. It’s like the perfect mix of old-school Counter-Strike 1.6 with a fresh coat of paint thanks to the Source engine. Even though it’s an older game now, it’s still a ton of fun!
Why It’s Awesome:
🎯 Super Fun Gameplay: Whether you’re planting bombs or rescuing hostages, every match feels exciting and intense. It’s all about teamwork and strategy.
🎮 Great Gunplay: The weapons feel awesome. Landing a headshot is so satisfying!
🌎 Cool Maps: Classic maps like Dust2 and Office are here, and there are TONS of custom maps made by the community. You’ll never run out of places to play.
💾 Modding and Servers: There’s a server for everyone—whether you want to play seriously or mess around with mods and goofy game modes.
A Few Downsides:
😬 It’s an Old Game: The graphics are good for their time but don’t expect anything modern.
🤔 Toxic Players: Some servers can have rude people, but you can always find chill ones to join.
Final Thoughts:
Counter-Strike: Source is a classic for a reason. It’s simple, fun, and still a blast to play with friends or solo. If you’re into competitive games or just want something cool to play, you can’t go wrong with this one!
this game is more like csgo but tghe diffrent is the mpas and the textures.
Lets be honest. We only bought this to get rid of the purple and black textures and the error models.
bought for gmod content stayed for gun game servers
