Joining a community server is either like joining a game of people fully high on crack who are outright good at the game or most people spraying 18+ stuff like anime feet or milkers while screaming at eachother at full volume.
8/10 I love this total sh#tfest of a game
very smooth surfing hundred times better than cs2 maybe the prestrafe takes a little longer but otherwise much better

Personal review:
This game is surprisingly good. it has everything: guns, load-outs, graphics... community... don't check there, now that I think about it. Anyways, it also has maps, gamemodes, and more! There is one problem, though... there is no chicken, but nonetheless, it's a great game!

this is a really good game. the tension of going around a corner or staying somewhere waiting for someone to show up is really good. whenever there is a sniper on the counter terrorists, it always scares me where they might be. 10/10
best cs game i mean its fun
but its still cs
if your computer explodes on cs2 then this is the best choice
but expert bots have aimbot
Fun, especially Deathmatch, ZE and ZM servers but gets boring quick.
For its age, it's a very good game, the servers are live and there are achievements, which adds interest to playing with friends)
This game is possibly the best PC fps I've ever played. Idk why it says 25 hours, I literally played Cal-I back in like 2009. Peak FPS action here. AND oldschool now.
the perfect time of this game was before the physic update, when the deagle 1 shot like awp. after that it went downhill.
A legendary childhood game, never get bored of playing it, it's fun and engaging . Thank you Lê Minh "Gooseman" for contributing to creating one of the legendary shooting game brands !!!!
Game is pretty fun I remember playing it in middle school on our school labtops with zombies. The online community is still alive and the people playing are really funny and "FIRE IN THE HOLE" ear blasting is annoying but funny
Si, no tienes este juego en tu laptop de año de nuestro señor no se que estas esperando la verdad.
Counter-Strike: Source is a game where the custom servers and community are a world all their own, a kind of digital Wild West where anything goes. It's like walking into a game expecting a tactical military shooter and stumbling into a weird, beautiful mess of surf maps, zombie escapes, and endless rounds of “Hide and Seek.”
You booted it up, and the Source Engine hit you with graphics that made you go, "Wow, these water reflections are so realistic!" for the first time in your life. Sure, by today’s standards, the graphics look like someone smeared Vaseline over everything, but in 2004, it was like gazing into the future. Back then, Source was the pinnacle of eye candy—those shiny guns, the ragdoll physics, and that satisfying headshot "ping" sound that echoed through the digital halls of de_dust2.
Thanks to the glorious Source Engine, every grenade throw was a potential physics experiment. Flashbangs bounced off walls in ways that sometimes felt like the game was conspiring against you. Whether you got shotgunned in the face or clipped by a grenade, the physics would send your corpse spinning, flipping, or crumpling in ways that looked half broken, half amazing.
If you ever want to experience peak nostalgia wrapped in pure unpredictability, Source’s custom servers are where it’s at. You might start out playing serious CS, but sooner or later, you'll end up racing through obstacle courses or trying to climb walls in a prison escape map where you’re the warden, and no one takes your authority seriously.
Counter-Strike: Source was more than just a game—it was an experience that defined a generation of shooters. It took the tactical precision of CS 1.6 and dressed it up in prettier graphics and unpredictable physics.
runs on the most doodoo feces of hardware, is actually possible to make maps for, isnt constantly being pushed as an e-sport by valve, and also cs_crackhouse is fun. 10/10 better than cs2
Won't work on linux. Proton runs like a slide show in menus and I'm not switching to x11.
Server list filled with spam I can't filter out.
Couldn't find a single server.
Added a server from some website:
"You are in insecure mode."
Proton = no VAC = no game
Installing steam from pacman instead of flatpak seem to allow native execution.
too many hackers to enjoy the game. sure there are games without them but the report button is very out of the way and a lot of servers dont even care going so far as to include a irl price for the awp or something like that going as far as to not care about hackers warrants this game as dogshit not to mention the people who dont think hackers are a problem and are scum of the earth.
For a 2004 game, its really active. Atleast 5k-10k active playerbase. Not in every but certain servers always has real players. Yes, hackers are there but if you join right servers, you wont have any problem. if you were a csgo player, you will like this.
this game was my very first online experience, ill never forget those times. the game is old now and probably for the most part dead, but the memories are still very alive...
A game worth playing. All you have to do is find the right servers, and you're in for a good time.
The funniest cs game with the best physics and underrated at the time gem that aged better than 1.6 decent graphics (amazing for its days) and runs on a potato pc
Staying true to the fundamentals that made the series iconic, Counter-Strike: Source delivers a solid update to a classic. It strikes a perfect balance between old-school tactical gameplay and just the right amount of modern polish. For fans of the genre, it feels like a nostalgic return but manages to feel fresher than CS2 in many ways. It's still the go-to for those who love the mix of strategy, skill, and simplicity that defines Counter-Strike's timeless appeal.
For me, CS:S was on my mind cause I wanted to get the content for GMod. But after actually trying it out, the game isn't actually too bad. Just don't join the "Russian Servers" everyone is talking about, or something like that.
great for people that love terror i love terror films
Classic fun shooter been playing since i was a kid always good to come back to :D
cs2 is ass thankfully this game still exists
also it gives missing gmod textures so that's a bonus
good game
Still active, still fun. Not too many dm servers where you can stay alive for more than 10 seconds, but it's worth 10 bucks.
my opinion about this game is that this is one of the best cs games in history would recommend as a first game for first time cs players
more fun than cs2. loads of modded maps and modes. still has a decent player count too. still worth it even if its an old game.
Solid update to a classic game, preserving the core elements of CS. It remains a beloved title for fans of tactical shooters, particularly those who appreciate a mix of old-school gameplay with a bit of modern polish. Aah feels nostalgic. and better than CS2....
Pretty good game even though it’s old also runs well on pretty much any computer
This might sound funny, but this game feels super fresh after 13 years of maining CSGO and CS2. For community maps and fun, casual gamemodes, CSS is the best. Simply put, CSS excels at everything CS2 is currently neglecting. I hope CS2 will eventually offer everything this game does and more, but for now they compliment each other very nicely. I miss this kind of Counter-Strike.
Also it can run on a potato which is very nice.
you dont have to hear anything from me. this game is the one. no doubt best game ever made for a fun shooter
how good is it, well buy it and find out
best one vavle and steam ever made i wrecken so and i play it on pc and on my steam deck for life.
great game still a lot of servers with good game play and good ppl
I started palying CS:S when I had my old PC and It couldn't run CS2.
There are very nice Surf-Servers and some Deathmatch-Servers that are fun.
Also the people I met here are very chill and nice to have a quick chat with.
VALVE should make It cheaper tho, just buy It when its on sale.
Counter-Strike: Source (CSS) is a game that has unexpectedly reclaimed its place as the definitive Counter-Strike experience in 2024, particularly after the controversial reception of Counter-Strike 2. With the fading popularity of CS2, many players have returned to CSS, appreciating it as a classic that perfectly blends nostalgia with solid, enduring gameplay.
Visuals and Mechanics
Built on the Source engine, the game was revolutionary when it launched in 2004, offering enhanced physics and graphics compared to its predecessor. Even today, the visuals hold up well, especially when considering the era it was released. The game’s mechanics are fluid, with each weapon offering distinct handling, making gunplay feel rewarding. The tactical, team-based nature of the game remains as engaging as ever, with the intensity of matches driven by the lack of respawns until rounds are completed.
Community and Servers
One of the core strengths of CSS is its community, which has managed to keep the game alive over the years. Despite some servers being plagued by outdated mods or less-than-desirable player behavior, many still offer the pure, unadulterated Counter-Strike experience. For those looking to dive back into it, it's easy to find active servers, and if needed, bots are available to fill in when human players are scarce.
Revisiting CSS in 2024
If you're considering playing CSS now, it's an excellent way to experience a piece of gaming history that continues to stand the test of time. Priced at just $9.99 on Steam (often discounted even further), it’s a great value for anyone looking to re-experience or discover the game for the first time. Whether you're chasing nostalgia or simply in search of a reliable and time-tested FPS, CSS is worth your attention.
Conclusion
Counter-Strike: Source in 2024 is not just a relic of the past; it’s a reminder of why the Counter-Strike franchise became iconic in the first place. With CS2 not meeting everyone’s expectations, CSS has naturally filled the void, offering a more stable and familiar experience that many players now appreciate more than ever.
