Frank's Big Package would be great to shove into your friends stocking, I'm sure they will be surprised! Honestly, I think this game gets a lot of unnecessary hate, not saying that the negative reviews don't have some truth to them, but for a mixed review, I am having more fun than one would believe. Take this from someone who has played all the Dead Risings and bought them 3 times across multiple platforms. Though as of this writing I am still playing it.
I like the setup of this one. Black Friday and the mall, all pretty cool, which btw, this is not the same mall from one and you also get to go outside like DR3. The inventory system in this game, I did not like it at first. However, after thinking about it, at max level, you have more inventory than ever! I just need to stop trowing explosives on accident since they change the control layout in this one. In general the game has some nifty ideas.
There is no time-limit, some like it, some hate it. I've gotten too good at these to even care. I have had down time in all of the games because I already did everything. I am disappointed that the story is not co-op, it is just a spin-off mode, but it could still be fun, I have not had the chance to try it.
There are some glitches and bugs that should not happen in a game this old, but they have been nothing major yet. Worst was when an enemy got stuck in a wall and I just walked away. Funniest is when my car went flying when I hit a bump lol. If you get it on sale, you shouldn't really be bothered.
My biggest complaint in this however is the save system, it is no longer manual and it is probably one of the worst auto saves I have ever seen. Auto save doesn't save your weapons, unless is says checkpoint, but it saves everything else. There is a saving grace however, the checkpoint system can be abused to help farm challenges, money, xp, survivors, ect. and your weapons go back to the previous state. The dumbest thing about this is the mall basically has no checkpoints despite having like half the collectibles in the game, though outside I trigger them a lot. My advice, get outside trough the story ASAP.
Close second on complaints is in order to get all skills, you have to do the trials I believe. I find this to be annoying as I hate getting collectibles, I didn't care for it in DR3 either, or being forced to play a certain way. If it was challenges that just accumulated overtime or stuff that would happen overtime in general, sure, but if you played any of these games before, there are some items you realize suck and you don't want to use them. For example the challenge says to use a hockey stick to kill 10 humans, not hard, just annoying.
.
I put in some actual hours after watching the 2 hour long youtube videos on this game and I think I can agree with one of their sayings ~ this wasn't the worst game I've ever played but the worst experience playing one. I honestly don't even know where to begin from the lackluster story, psychopaths, humor or lack of. I finished the story and messed around on Frank Rising and the capcom stuff, and was honestly just stunned as to how bad it was from the direction of the game to the content within in it. I explained the story to a friend and I think it lasted like 4 sentences, that's how little there was to it. The world despite having a rather large map (mainly due road padding) felt so barren. There is more gameplay outside the mall than inside it? I tried to go for most achievements so I put some hours in but i was honestly clocked out by like, case 3. It's just sad. Infinite mode in DR is arguably more fun than the content in this game.
Dead rising 4 is genuinely a fun game if you just focus on the funny weapons and costumes and zombie killing.
If you focus on it more deeply it simply cannot be considered a good game at the 30 dollar price point. The game is riddled with glitches and bugs most easily laughed off but others down right infuriating.
Story is downright uninteresting and all the characters including frank are absolutely soulless
ON SALE it's worth getting. Mindless zombie killing fun
This Game Is Shit Don`t Buy it
Just finished. By far, a mediocre dead rising.
If you have a zombie killing itch. This game can scratch it... However, it is bottom of the barrel. Highly recommend Dead Rising 2 and 3. Unfortunately for me the new engine they used on this one was just not good. Feels suuuuper clunky compared to 2 and 3. It just feels like a husk of a Dead Rising game. They used all the same pieces but something was not fitting quite right.
Bruh just retire the jersey already
Its okay, its not dead rising though. Its fun for some mindless gameplay.
I can't play this game. got to case 2 and now my game just constantly freezes after about 5 minutes of playing. save your money
It works very well, dead rising remaster played slow/bad audio so this dead rising really saved the day.
Bad the worst lag I've seen for co-op which isn't the main contender for the game but it shouldn't exist since you rubber-band the entire time.
Soft Brain
killing zombies is FUNヽ༼ຈل͜ຈ༽ノ
I recently gave this game a redo years after release. I first played Dead Rising Remaster and it got me in the mood to replay all of them and wanting to get the worst out of the way I started with 4.
I’ll say this, this is the worst dead rising game still. No psycho cut scenes, no survivor escorts, no time limit, the area is missing it seems. Oh and that’s not the Mall. Franks annoying and the story is bleh. However, the gameplay is there. The variety is there. Zombies pile on screen. Had some frame limit problems on the steam deck and had a crash but for the amount of chaos on screen the game holds up. And you can really get that hit counter up high. It’s as good or better than DR3.
Frank Rising is probably the best Overtime mode. It’s almost everything I’d want as a fan lore, and playing as a super zombie wise. The story did suck tho.
As far as the extras like heroes mode, golf etc. DR4 excels at simply being a zombie horde slaying masterpiece. You’ll find a lot of satisfaction there just don’t expect the same excitement you get from the first 2 games.

Enjoyable decimation
Fun Vast zombie sandbox 10/10

very good story
The game's good.
Dead Rising 4

Fashion Rising is back in force. Bringing fantastic new features, a 10/10 story and the best zombie killing experience to date…
I wish I could start this review with that. I wish I could say the way the fanbase despised this instalment was unfair. I absolutely loved DR4 when I first played it back at release. Being the first Dead Rising game I actually got into and finished, I held it as my favourite zombie killing game. I still like a lot of things about it, but there’s the overwhelming feeling when I play after playing all but one of the titles. It feels like an early access game… Let’s get started.
Story
It’s short. Way too short. It’s not bad, but you can see it’s missing chunks of character development. Issues like a character being introduced at the start, who then essentially ceases to exist until the end of the game. It’s the same generic plot points of: Government is doing illegal testing; things go wrong and it all links back to the first game.
We are brought back to the location of the first game. And I do enjoy the map. It’s big, but not a massive pain to navigate like DR3 and you even get a Mall again. There was a lot of potential with the location, the characters and the soap-opera level lore about the people involved in the original outbreak. It does fall short; feeling like it was chopped and changed, characters being under developed, and a general lack of coherent flow. But in the distance, you can see what could have been.
Characters, Psychos, and everyone in between
Back in the field; having made some past mistakes that led to being buried by the government is our man… Frank West. The players hated this version of Frank. Mr West is not a good person in this, every act of kindness is riddled with self-gain or pure reluctance. Yet very suddenly towards the end of the game he’s being weirdly considerate of others and willing to sacrifice what he wanted to help others. So here’s where the missing chunks of character development comes in. Frank is numb towards the zombie incident, not caring about others and only focusing on his story. People hated this as it was very unlike him in other games, however I look at it as if I was getting dragged into my third outbreak and I was emotionally immature I would respond the same way. This could’ve been explored in further detail for sure, but Frank and every other character only gets real development through… collectibles. I can’t say too much about the others as we really don’t interact with everyone else for long enough to see how they interact off of each other.
Oh right. Psychopaths. One of the biggest things that adds enjoyment for fans. Yeah, they’re gone. Replaced with these half baked “Maniacs”. No cutscenes, no fun interactions, nothing. Just show up, kill some minions and shoot the maniac in the face and leave. DR3 had less in it, but the ones that were, i.e. the 7 Deadly Sins, ended up being a lot of fun.
Gameplay
There are a lot of questionable decisions to tackle here. For starters, throwables, melee and ranged all have separate inventories. This means you can no longer throw every item on you but does mean you can have a ranged weapon assigned that you can quickly switch to. I liked being able to pick up random chairs and throw them but maybe it’s just me. There’s also a lot more as far as collectibles. How many? 6. An important lesson for any developer; you only need two or three small sets of collectibles. Using the abundant amount of them to tell the story instead of… oh I don’t know… showing us in the bloody story! It draws out the game time in a very inorganic way. There’s no side missions that we can use to interact with other survivors, only ‘Distress beacons’; Side missions being a better way of extending playtime and exploring character growth.
Complaining Continued…
So what else do we have? Blueprints- 55 in total. There are a handful of new ones, but no Super Combos or overpowered Psycho weapons, just the maniac weapons. In DR3 we got lockers for any weapon you have previously picked up or made. DR4 returns to the classic method with a slight twist. Merchants in the safehouses. They are certainly a thing… This does mean you get a currency system (scrap), but I only used it for the Location merchant to find the collectibles. It’s there, it doesn’t add anything game changing it’s just something someone probably thought was a good idea. They also removed Co-Op for the campaign and instead added these episodes you can play with friends, hence why we don’t have Scarlett joining us this time (I’m in spirit editing). I think what makes all of these weird, unimpactful or outright bad is that all these new features feel unrefined, like an early access game that’s still trying out different things and not finishing or changing what doesn’t work.
So What Did I like?
I’ve tackled most things that trouble but what did I like? The bugs I encountered were harmless or even fun (with the exception of one) and for once it wasn’t a FUCKING CURVING FRYPAN. DR4 had me using a variety of Combo weapons, not just the same three. The vehicles were entertaining and being able to drive everywhere was such a joy (I’m looking at you DR3). Killing zombies isn’t perfect (there’s a video of DR4 vs DR1 that highlights a lot of things DR4 was just lacking) but it’s still fun. The Mini Golf game mode is fun and I absolutely loved Frank Rising. You know, the DLC where made you look and you play as thankfully not Chuck Greene. And I appreciate the effort that was put into the collectibles and the stories you get from them. I also think you could’ve done the tags and gotten stories from them instead of having six different collectibles. Fashion Rising is still present, you can use any fully body mirror to change your outfit and the Servobot Head changes expressions based on Franks. The camera being back is a feature I enjoyed, selfies included. The skill trees were also well done for the most part.
Conclusion
I do not hate this game. I don’t like it as much as I use to though. DR4 has the same good foundation every Dead Rising I’ve played has, yet still has the same issue as the rest but in different ways. The story is far too short, the characters have no time to get fleshed out and we have far too many collectibles. Yet killing zombies is still fun, combo weapons are great and spending my game dressed as Servobot Knight was great. So in a sentence…
Dead Rising 4 has the same core as the rest with half-baked ideas tossed on top and shipped out before anyone took a second look.
It’s not good, but it’s not any worse than DR2 for me. You might think otherwise, all I ask is you remember that you don’t have to like or dislike anything because it’s good or bad. But I see now I must finish my Dead Rising journey with were it all began. Until then…
May Your Travels Lead You To Warm Sands Friend,
Ody
It's not bad
Frank….what did they do too you my boy? Otis would be so sad. If you’re a diehard fan of the DR series then this one may one tickle that spot for you a lil but if you go in open minded as it’s a DR non cannon game it’s hella fun driving through highways filled to the brim amazing weapon combinations this game is decent on sale for a quick holiday pick up.
This game is trash, any of the previous Dead rising entries and dlc are far away in another class of greatness than this. Its not due to any weird dog whistle terms or DEI trash. Its just due to bad writing and lackluster performances. Frank is not the same as either OTR or Dead Rising 1. He lacks any of his witty or serious charm. Yeah he cracks jokes and puns or whatever, but its like hearing your dad say the cheesiest shit in hopes of being funny while you are trying to enjoy something on a serious level. The plot can't take itself seriously, it feels like the Joss Whedon esq writing cant ever stop. Dead Rising 1, 2, and 3 for all of its goofiness tried to ground you in the weight of the situation. The gravity of it all. This game feels like it wants to do that with Vick's character, but ultimately it just feels like she is overeacting whenever Frank is around. Though to be fair with this entry, Frank feels like he just jokes about death and getting money. Which the greedy part was part of his character In dead rising 1, but he quickly abandoned that as he got addicted to looking for the scoop.
Overall I could write an essay, the point is though, just stay away, I got this in a bundle with Dead Rising 2 and OTR, or else I wouldn't have touched it.
i love this game, very fun. I am not too sure why it gets the hate that it does when all that the game is, is just a zombie killing simulator with a mid story. The multiplayer could be improved on and have a story mode added to it but other than that I really like the way the multiplayer is laid out and how the blueprints from singeplayer will carry over. 10/10
Would've been good if it didn't suck
very cool game
its alright.
i mean i get why alot of people dislike the game. cuz i mean its lacking the usual psychopath and also lacking the timer.
but i still find it fun myself, its a big map, fun combat, fun missions.
Not Recommended
Best of the series !
Not a bad game to sit back and chill on. Not the Dead Rising of old (original 1 & 2 ) but in its own right has some great qualities. Very well optimised meaning good FPS even if you have lower end computers. To my surprise a very strong story, best in the series. for a game costing £4 on sale these days you cant really go wrong!
It's an awful Dead Rising game but a fun zombie game, just switch your brain off and go kill.
Just imagine you're playing as some boomer dad trying to be hip and not Frank West... it helps.
its aight
Visual is quite great and vast improvement from prequel, like blood and gore, flame, laser, every visual.
However, the story is non-canon in my view, as the writing for story is like it is written by some 16 years old arrogant teenager.
The game is also not polished, as quite many minor crucial features that make the game great was removed, such as dead body react to player hit on it, pick up every objects, and least effort done for psycho.
Very fun game. No timer like the other dead rising games. Best in series.
That’s good game. I know that’s sure Dead Rising 3 better than Dead Rising 4. I hopefully about new Dead rising 5?
Dead Rising 4 brings back Frank West as the playable character as we return to Willamette to celebrate the Holidays amidst another zombie outbreak, and work alongside others to uncover the cause of the outbreak.
While I enjoyed Dead Rising 4 for both the story and the gameplay, It's easy to notice the different controls and mechanics. This includes the removal of psychopath bosses in favor of a different but similar system instead and having a story and quests that aren't on time limits. No more time management in this game.
You also can't pick-up and throw items or your weapons, Leaving only standard throwable items available to be thrown. (I like to randomly pick-up & throw items at zombies in other Dead Rising games.)
As a Dead Rising game, the differences in mechanics, features and controls may cause some to not enjoy it. Though I got used to the controls, new systems and honestly most of all enjoyed the story.
NOT A GOOD ENDING
BEAUTIFUL GAME DESPITE THE HATE I LOVE COMING BACK TO PLAY FOR CHRISTMAS COZY TIME <3
Best Christmas game eveeeeeeeeeeeeeer. Everyone should be this during Christmas time and play it. Love it so much. For sure will be one of my favorite games ever forever and will probably play it every Christmas.
no co op campaign. its just kill zombies in a mall horde mode style.
I fell for easiest trick in the book.
It's a fun romp, but the core gameplay loop does get boring after a time. It's also pretty clear that minimal improvement has been made since the game's release. It's more than a little buggy. Still fun if it's on sale. The story is also campy, but in the best way possible.
mindless stress relief. challenging for a new gamer but hours of fun
Gameplay is Good, I'm on Case 2
But A lot of Bugs.
I'll put on Hold on this game until I play on a Better PC.
So Frank wait for me Dude I'll be back playing this Game.
