brackets good game even gooder
I have seen the horizon. I have beaten all of it. Even on the hardest difficulty. I do not recomend this game. Just like this review, the game is all over the place in terms of quality. The Exo-suits are a great idea, killing thousands of zombies is still fun, but my god the amount of glitches and clearly plenty of untested parts of the map let alone entire cases. My god, do NOT play this first time on Blackest Friday Night. The game's tutorial is nearly impossible to get through and grinding in near impossible until you get the Ion Cannon. The balance of the game is BAD. Just search for the Ion Cannon and beat the game, that is all the weapons you need. Frank is going through a mid-life crisis throughout the entire game. Making the same quips over and over again. However, I can forgive most of this if it wasn't for one particular character. Vicky...the royal pain in the ass that kickstarts the new outbreak, blames you, then has the nerve to steal your story from you and call FRANK an egomaniac asshole. There is no words I have for this character except "Hate". Never have I learned the meaning of Hate till today as if I ever met Vicky in real life (Not the voice actor) I would equip one of those exo-suits before drop kicking her into a pit of endless flaming zombies covered in poison ivy and peanuts. Why peanuts? Because I'm pretty sure this character was written with the defining trait "Hates men."
It just feels like a cheap, low quality product with bad controls, weightless enemy and the inventory is so weird like your weapons automatically switch mid-combo??? I've heard about capcom vancouver but they still should have either canceled this or left it cooking for another year.
I love this game on my playstation but when I got this game there are way more glitches like when I press the button to run it would not let my character run at all.
ive completed this on my xbox and it was pretty good, people be bad mouthing this game just cause "it aint like the old games" fucking move on bro 2012 was 12 years ago things aren't the same as they used to be, fucking grow up
One of the best zombie games and unique.
fun killing zombies but not as good as dr3
This game is pure bug and garbage to the level you should come out and apologize to community and fan.

It's an awful game way far to glitchy and they made Frank into this sort of Jerk It just seems like what they did was Slapped Frank west's name and put him back in Willamete and yeah that's it
I understand why Dead Rising fans hate this compared to the first three. It gets rid of the formula and goes (even more) open world. It has some bugs, well, a lot of bugs, but it generally doesn't take away from the overall enjoyment of the game. However, IMO this is one of the most fun games I've ever played. I just don't consider it a good Dead Rising game. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to play a zombie game that doesn't take itself seriously.
PEAK CHRISTMAS VIBES. i get it, most people hate this game. and for good reasons. but this is my favorite game in the series because i get to do all the goofy stuff in dead rising without feeling restrained by time. i get to goof off as much as i want without a care in the world. most people have a christmas movie every year. this is my christmas game, and i hope it can be yours too.
This game is trash all zombie head is that yellow stupid things do not buy it
I don`t recommend this game. Horrible FPS in a 4070 TI.
Stopped playing after act 2 (mall) where things got really awful.
A game definitely not worthy of bearing the Dead Rising title, but if you look past the insufferably written characters of "Frank West" (Not the real Frank West imo),other irritating characters like Vick, the lazy, shoddy mechanics of the game that have completely watered down what made the original dead rising so fantastic, the lack of atmosphere and love gone into the game's world, and the reddit themed humour the game insists on shoving down your throat every 2 minutes, then it becomes a solid albeit mindless zombie horde killing game that doesn't take itself too seriously.
This game still surprisingly holds up. It's by far my favorite zombie killing franchise. Nothing quite compares to running around in a green skin tight jumper with your ass cheeks hanging out and flavor blasting zombies to pieces. Yes, the game has bugs and sometimes they can even be game breaking. But they're worth it for a little nostalgia around the holiday season.
If you just got finished with Dead Rising 3, just go replay it. DR3 was such a fun game and I was hoping they took everything we loved about the previous games and made an amazing zombie sandbox in DR4. Nope, this game is lacking EVERYTHING that made the previous titles great.
Pros:
-I'm 6 hours in and the only thing I genuinely like about the game is there's a bunch of fashion options available :)
Cons-
- Combo weapons are underwhelming,
- Combat in general isn't about killing zombies its about building a "hit streak" which makes everything severely wonky and unpredictable. (not to mention the bugs)
- Psychopaths have been replaced with Boring NPC`s and no cool interesting characters or any characters that offer interesting dialog.
- The new inventory system is god awful and gets rid of inventory management in the game.
- A poorly integrated stealth system SOMEHOW made its way in a Dead Rising game.
The game just doesn't feel like dead rising, its just a depressing shell of a game developed by people who had no idea what dead rising was and who Frank West is. If you are just casually looking for a zombie sandbox game and either haven't played the other games, there's some stuff to enjoy about the game I guess. If you are a fan of the DR games I mean this when I say just skip this game and go replay the other ones. I love Capcom but this game is not worth your time.
This is not Dead Rising
Many people will say they don't like this game and all
But i can't say that Sure Dr4 is diffrent but it's Fun :3
And not many games are these days so Dr4 isn't all that bad i love it and will always do so
I liked this game when it released. Sure...it was very different from the earlier entries in the series but it really wasn't terrible. Now coming back to play it in 2024 is impossible. The game does not save for me, even after hitting checkpoints. I end up back at case 0 anytime I need to load checkpoint or quit to menu/desktop and come back. I tried to uninstall the game using REVO uninstaller to get everything cleaned out, I stopped OneDrive from syncing in case that was an issue, re-installed the game, ran the game as admin, and still nothing works. I can't recommend the game in this state as there is no way you're playing the entire game in one sitting with no deaths. It's a shame because I played DR-Remaster and then DR2+3 without issue.
Loved the first few games but this was ... not there. Has Dead Rising Name and Elements in the game but feels so wrong. if you haven't tried the old ones than this might be alright as long as you get lucky with the bugs. also do normal, other difficulties are broken because the bugs. makes it infuriating
FRANKKKKK
This is Dead Rising, but stripped of everything that made Dead Rising an actually interesting, unique zombie game.
Time limit is gone, inventory management is COMPLETELY gone, progression has been made worse in every single way possible with Combo weapons not granting extra PP and leveling mostly giving you bland numerical upgrades such as "+50 HP" or "greatly increased damage", missions are completely gone in favor of random radiant encounters.
The map is atrociously designed, you have all these stores and places to explore, and it's riddled with random collectables that come with snippets of lore. Collecting these things would be fun if most of them weren't located in the most frustrating to reach places, sometimes being gated by either main story progression or by having to locate random keys somewhere else in the map.
The combat is barely an improvement over Dead Rising 3, controls still feel pretty stiff and the combo moves have been entirely replaced by a "instakill one zombie with a normal weapon or AoE attack with a combo weapon" button. There's a dodge roll here as well, for some reason?
Every new mechanic introduced in this game is either forgettable or bland, like Exo Suits, which limits your movement (who needs combo cars am i right?) and barely lasts enough time for you to enjoy it. There's also a safe house mechanic that ties in with the random encounters, where you fill them with the survivors you rescue; the higher the level, the more things you can buy, such as map markers for blueprints or collectables. Because that feels great - progression gated behind RNG. The camera also returns, yet serves no purpose outside of dollar-store Batman: Arkham series detective mode investigation scenes.
This game didn't need more development time, it needed to be redone from the ground up. If you want more Frank West after the first game, just play Off the Record.
One of the best zombie game ever no matter what others say. Christmas atmosphere is amazing honestly . Map is not big but still got a lot places to explore . Story only for 8 hours and kinda meh but i was not looking for story when i bought this game . I recommend this game for gamers who like to hit zombies with microwave and driving a toy car .
Fun game if you don't want to be stuck in the past
Not that bad. Only 9 hours to complete the main story tho.
Dead Rising 4 is such a strange case of a game. It’s vilified by fans as the worst game in the franchise and after playing it’s very clear why. The thing about the game though is that it’s not, “one of the worst games I’ve ever played,” or some 1 out of 10. What it really is, is a painfully average game that completely lost the identity of the Dead Rising franchise. On the surface it’s very easy to think they fell into the trap of making a game that’ll appeal to everyone, but that doesn’t even feel like it’s the case. What really shows in the final product though is the nightmarish development this game went through. I’m not going to lay it all out for you, I’m sure other reviewers have already and there’s some great videos online explaining it but the basics you should know is that a series of bad decisions led to this game being developed without the founder of the development studio, the original executive producers for this game, the lead writer for all of Dead Rising 2 & 3, and about 40% of the studio’s original staff. It puts a lot of things into perspective really. Why is Frank completely different than in previous games? Well that’s because the executive producers who’d originally pitched his return got fired and the long time lead writer left of her own accord; meaning those who took up the helm didn’t know and understand Frank West. Why does everything feel half-baked and lacking? Well the game was developed on only 75% of the original time and resources in addition to having a severely reduced staff. I could say more there, but you hopefully get the point. They weren’t trying to make a bad game but they ended up in a situation where they were bound to fail.
Now none of that excuses the flaws of the game, I just wanted to put them into perspective and if you want to say, “cry me a river,” that’s totally justified. What we ultimately got here is what, to me, feels like Dead Rising’s Resident Evil 6. A game that went outside the story and gameplay that fans have come to expect over the years and ultimately created something that’s not awful, but also isn’t great either. There’s fun to be had in Dead Rising 4, but in order to find it you really have to be someone that’s simply not a fan of Dead Rising; because what it is, is essentially a generic open world hack n’ slash with a zombies theme. I played this immediately following fresh playthroughs of the prior games and now that I’m done I can honestly say that I don’t have any interest in playing it again and I also don’t have any interest in picking up the DLC for the, equally as bad, true ending. The best thing I got out of playing this game, as a fan of the series as a whole, is that I now have a greater appreciation for the series as a whole and the efforts they made to make the earlier games stand out.
So many things have been simplified here for one reason or another and it creates a very casual experience that gets boring quickly. Due to character limits, and me trying to not write a college essay, I can only touch on these so much, but hopefully you get the points.
Survivors feel pointless in this game. The thing with survivors is that rather than being crafted NPCs with their own minor personality traits they’re literally just all generic NPCs. The reason for this is that survivors are now almost entirely radiant quests. There’s really no reason to be saving them too because the PP they award you now is like crumbs compared to what it used to be.
Something that hasn’t been simplified and yet feels worse than ever is the map. I personally didn’t enjoy the bigger map of Dead Rising 3, because despite the size, it lacked things to do since the majority of buildings and businesses were inexplicably closed off. Now in Dead Rising 4 you have an even larger map and most of the buildings are accessible, but there’s no reason to go in most of them. What I found is that a lot of the buildings you can enter don’t contain anything of value. I think this became very apparent to me too when I’d reached the end of Case 5 and noticed I had 44 of the 55 combo blueprints but I’d only used maybe 3 or 4 of them regularly. This wasn’t because I didn’t like the other combo weapons, I didn’t like any of them in general, I simply couldn’t find the things to make them most of the time because you see the same few items pretty much everywhere. Just to mention it quickly too, this game has an Ubisoft amount of collectibles to waste your time.
A very important thing I need to touch on is combat because all the depth has been wiped away from it. You can no longer do heavy attacks or throw your weapon, instead you can only spam your basic attack and once getting a high enough streak you can execute a special attack similar to Dead Rising 3. The thing is though, unlike Dead Rising 3 where you built up a kill streak, you’re now building up a hit streak. Once you’ve hit, or shot, enemies enough times you can execute a special attack same as before, but with much less exciting attacks. Any basic, non-combo weapon, will simply trigger an animation where Frank executes a zombie. Combo weapons don’t get these, instead they all trigger some form of AoE attack. The reason for this change is likely because combo weapons no longer earn you additional PP for kills. Yes, you did read that correctly. Combo weapons no longer earn you additional PP because every kill you get regardless of it being with a melee weapon, gun, throwable, or car will always award you the same small amount of PP per kill. Despite that being the case though the combo weapons still don’t offer any real advantage because by design the number of enemies you kill isn’t meant to matter as much as how many times you can hit them in a short period. This is shown to be the case through the skill system. Despite having 107 skills in the game not a single one of them increases your damage. There’s also a skill now that awards you incrementally larger amounts of PP the higher you build your hit streak, meaning killing enemies faster is considered a bad thing in this game! What this results in is extremely underwhelming and weak combo weapons that offer no real incentive to use them. Remember the laser sword from other Dead Rising games? Remember how it would instantly slice zombies in half? Not here, here you’re going to be hitting them multiple times with it before they die because killing them instantly would hurt your hit streak. Something interesting I noticed after experimenting towards the end of the game is that there’s really no disadvantage to using standard weapons on anything but boss enemies. Most of them do similar damage to zombies since you’re not meant to kill them fast and the AoE from combo weapons is generally not effective due to you killing all the nearby zombies while building up the streak to use it.
Just to touch on them very quickly too, combo vehicles. They’re back and I can describe them with one word: forgettable. You’ll never find the vehicles you need to make them without going out of your way and given that, again, hits matter more than kills, driving a normal car is better in a lot of ways. A normal car is extremely durable too, I didn’t have a single one break despite never upgrading their durability.
I’ll wrap this up with a quick lightning round of some other things. The camera returns but doesn’t award PP so it’s really just here for story mechanics, the inventory system change removed the depth of managing your inventory, exo-suits is a cool idea but boring in practice, and psychos were replaced with generic themed NPCs that are forgettable.
This game is certainly not one of the worst I’ve played, but it’s not one I’d recommend picking up. If you’re looking for a zombies sandbox I’d like to direct you to Dead Rising 3 instead since it pretty much does every aspect of this game better.
pretty fun
Ok, so I went back to Dead Rising, what gives? Gotta admit the new remaster made me want to go back and revisit it so I might as well play the fourth one while I'm waiting right? And maybe see why it is so hated. I can't be that bad right? Right?
Well, it is not. It's decent actually, I think. Many of the mechanics from previous games are overhauled and/or improved. Movement and combat are way more fluid. And the new open world/town it's pretty detailed with many locations to visit. So. all in all, I kind of enjoyed it. It ain't that bad.
But wait, there's a reason why this game put the series on ice tho. And it is not just the fact that they took away the time limit. And thank god they did, boy do I hate to be rushing to do everything in an open world game, what a dumbass mechanic. I do, however, miss it. It's odd right? But yeah, that sense of urgency is completely gone in this one, and you could say that this game is less of a Dead Rising just because of it. For better or worse, the "72 hour" gameplay is one of the key things in the series. I hate that, but you know, I get it.
That is also why this game is so particularly easy. The easiest of all four of them. Part of it is because the game is definitively dumbed down in difficulty. Second is cause the mechanics are simply better. You no longer need to resort to idiotic exploits in order to kill a psychopath, or a "maniac" as this one decided to nonsensically call them.
Also, this was the worst era for Capcom, or Crapcom as some people called them back then. But honestly, this isn't the worst they released at the time. And to be fair, Capcom's shitty era started all the way back when Dead Rising hit the shelves as well, The first one might have been the last of the truly original games that made the company, you know, unique. The story is so cliched and standard, and Frank is by no means the same as he was in the first entry. I don't know what Capcom has against the original voice actor, but this guy isn't him. Frank is sometimes funny, sometimes unfunny, most of the times annoying. Also the ending sucks and was made specially so you get the DLC. Come on Capcom, come on!
Graphically it is ok, but there's tons of stuttering. And I do mean like, tons. Either this game was poorly optimized or it's that god damn fucking stupid DRM operating behind it. Like oh my god, just drop that fucking thing, jesus!
I have lots of other things to say about this one, but I feel like I already said the most important ones, and about the rest, well the rest you can find it out yourself. None of the Dead Rising franchise has really struck me like it was gold, to be honest, and I was there when the first one came out. I understand why so many people has strong feelings over it, some because it was part of their childhood, but come on, the game is unique but far from perfect. Like, really far. I do think that some of the criticism leveled towards this one is frankly justified (no pun intended). Capcom Vancouver took away many of the things that, again for better or worse, made Dead Rising, you know, "Dead Rising", but it is not as bad as other things Capcom put out in those years. Namely RE 6, Bionic Commando, Umbrella Chronicles anyone? Ugh.
There is definitively a decent game underneath the cliched story, the stupid characters, the "Hank East" replacing Frank West, the DRM, the shoddy clipping, the sometimes underwhelming graphics and the repetitive ad nauseum gameplay. After all, I played through the hole thing. I can understand hardcore fans being pissed with it, and they are essentially right in most of the criticism, but then again Dead Rising fans seem to enjoy the terrible mechanics that made the previous three games, so...
This is without a doubt the worst of the Dead Rising series. We can all agree on that.
3/5
why.
This has to be the most janky game ive ever played feels like a low budget indie game with only money on its mind
I like this game. I will be playing it again during Christmas time using the Christmas packages. Nothing can beat the original game. Dead Rising 2 was good ... both versions. If you can get any of these games on sale, you will enjoy them immensely.
The game play itself is fun Pretty solid game play fun costumes from past Capcom games if you get the big package version of the game also fun weapons as well you could easily just spend hours killing zombies and running around. The only reason why the game pisses me off is i got to the 3rd case all of a sudden the game started crashing and then i couldn't even play it right now i am reinstalling it kinda depressed me about having to start over a technical problem a solution would be nice or a fix i know its a old game but if it didn't have that problem id give it ten stars so i will give it a 7/10 for its fun factor and open world. If reinstalling fixes the problem with the game Id say its a really fun open world adventure i like that there is no time limit like in the last game at least in the beginning unless you play the zombie mode from what i have heard.
DO NOT BUY THE GAME IF YOU WANT TO PLAY WITH YOUR FRIENDS, IT HAS NO CAMPAIGN COOP. If you have no friends, its better than 3 but worse than 2.
just dont
Not a great game overall. Clunky controls, story that makes no sense, nobody in the game is likable. If you want a mindless zombie killing game, just get DR 3 instead. Some people like it, some people don't, but at least it doesn't lock the true ending to the game behind a 10 DOLLAR DLC PAYWALL
its an okay game but an horrible dead rising. The only reason i played the game is because it's a dead rising. The worst of them but still. The longer i play, the more i hate it.
easiest one out of them all and the worst one of them why would they make this i dont understand what they were think when they made this its so bad i will never play it again sad to see this was franks last game.
Years later, despite not being on the clock to complete scoops and cases, the world being open and free exploration, this is a more accurate experience in a small town. However, I have to agree, the time limit, scoops, and cases is missed. But the game is still good, nontheless.
its cool
loved it
Very fun
No story co-op mode, which is a big miss for a game like this compared to other Dead Rising series.
The game is enjoyable. I avoided it since it was receiving bad reviews back in the day but its fun. All the people in costumes seems to off rather than just having people in normal clolthing but its supposed to be whacky.
The time limit thing doesn't bother me either way as it is mostly just a time wasting mechanic in the other games for one group of gamers which I hope they have their fun but speed running and looking at guides isn't my thing. The other games have all that.
I am on case 3 and its been a good game so far so check it out if you like Dead Rising and don't mind it to be slightly different. Its basically all there except the timer and for some reason all NPCs except 3 so far are in mascot type outfits or soldier outfits.
absolute worst capcom game ever !!!!
This is fucked up. But I don't hate this game.
Is it a good Dead Rising game?
Hell no.
Is it a mediocre but fun holiday zombie game? Yes. The vibes of this game are actually really enjoyable to me. But yeah if you want a good dead rising game don't play this one. But on it's own I don't hate it actually.
DR4 is just unfortunately an even more mediocre time than DR3. I can't name a single thing that is standout or better than its predecessor. Ultimately limp, unfulfilling, and unsatisfying in every way.
I played the previous games, and I get why those who liked those ones, don't like this one, but me, it is exactly why I like this one lol. I can't play with a timer, I know it's a 'the game' so to speak, but I hate having to feel rushed. I don't mind that survivors could die, etc, but just the idea of the timer to me is a BIG NO, and that's why I like this one (Played it fully previously on PS4 so don't mind the 4 hours here).
