Firstly the few problems I noticed with this port/version – audio level of dialogues during cutscenes was way too quiet(almost ruined a lot of the important moments); I had to go trough a lot of trouble to get my NOT xbox controller to work with this game(having to download and calibrate x360ce – controller emulator) since there's no support for other controllers and from what I've heard even Xbox controllers have trouble with this port/version. Trying to make it work also somehow made the game crash in a way that made me restart my pc a couple times, but after the initial setup the game didn't crash again and I didn't experience any problems with performance either.
About the game itself: It's a step up from the first one probably in every way – the overall story is better, it looks slightly better, it has more stuff... But this probably doesn't say anything, especially for someone who hasn't played the first game. To put it very simply – it's a wacky zombie kinda-survival-kinda-sandbox game. Both this and first game have interesting story structure("cases") and I personally really liked the main story of this one, besides a certain moment near the end that ruined it for me. I was planning on playing way more of this game, but after it... Yeah, that moment ruined the whole game for me. I'm just weirdly sensitive about certain things, so maybe when you'll reach that point in the story and it'll happen you won't even care. Anyways, even with that "thing" that happened I would still say that the story is decent and interesting.
Gameplay. You walk/run at snail's-pace(that's not an exaggeration, the MC moves unnaturally slowly. Imagine if you were jogging besides your friend who for some reason decided to walk super slowly and you tried your best to keep pace with him, without outrunning him. That's how mc moves – it's a jogging animation, but if it was in the specific situation I just described. There's a zombie apocalypse, Chuck, why are you SO LAID BACK!!?? And even when I maxed out my speed it was barely any faster, that "max" speed should've been the default and you should've only got faster from there. ) As I was saying(before I got sidetracked), you traverse trough the map that is divided into a few major zones using the speed of a senile turtle and almost anything you find along your way to fight off zombies, save survivors, escort those survivors back to the safehouse and defeat human bosses along the way. You can even pick up stuff like benches or trash bins and swing them around as weapons, besides the more convenient weapons like fire axes, sledgehammers, pistols, shotguns, snipers, teddy bears and so on(basically there's a huge variety of possible weapons, differing greatly in usefulness and damage) all of this already existsed in the first game(it's part of dead rising's identity), but there is a new addition of being able to combine weapons to create something unique crazy and often really fun. These "combo weapons" can be made only in special rooms that are scattered throughout the map and only after you get a "combo card"/blueprint of that new weapon(those blueprints you can get from certain boss fights, also possibly from leveling up and from certain posters. Maybe there's some other ways too, but those were all that I found) I didn't experience this mechanic fully because I was planning on that after I was done with the story +all the combo cards I had gotten up until the end of the story asked for items I couldn't find or forgot where to find, but the ones I got to try out were all cool and awesome, so they were definitely a great addition. Overall the combat is better than the first game, but not by much and I still wouldn't call it good. Fighting zombies you probably won't even notice how bad it is(probably because on zombies it works quite well and against them it's fun), but you'll definitely realise it when fighting bosses. These games have human bosses "psychopaths", they're the most crazy unhinged characters I've ever seen and I understand why people like them so much. The presentation and the craziness of them is a very unique quality and it often is reinforced by their gimmick and that is super cool, but unfortunately there's not a single good boss fight in the game(at least of those I've experienced, I'm sure I missed a couple or more) Those are definitely very entertaining characters, but it's a pain to fight any and all of them. First of all – most of them are much faster than you, which means that if a fat guy with a chainsaw charges after the athletic MC, mc has no chance to outrun that charge and I'm not even sure how you're supposed to avoid majority of their attacks. They also have a ton of health, deal a lot of damage, oftentimes the nearest safe point is far away so you have to run back trough hordes of zombies to most likely die again against some attack you have no idea how to dodge... All of these bosses are very unfun to fight and I could only search for a way to cheese them or somehow trick their ai – ANYTHING, that's how terrible they were to fight. Maybe at the end their craziness makes it worth to defeat them and possibly see a cutscene of their fate, but they are just the most unfun bosses to fight I've seen probably ever. These bosses are difficult, but not in a good fair way, this game is too very difficult and I kinda wished that it had difficulty options. I heard some people say to just ignore the story and get strong by saving survivors, killing zombies, leveling up(the main story, levels, progress, the sandbox and time works really strangely in this game, i would recommend learning about it beforehand from someone who is better at explaining than me), but I always want to experience the story first and the timer is needlessly stressful and doesn't allow me to approach the game how I want to and that really sucks the fun out of it – that, boss fights, difficulty only ramping up(with zombies getting more aggressive, starting to use more grab attacks – I hate those, they felt like a waste of time and super difficult to avoid, and later on in the story the zombies become even more aggressive and with even worse grab attacks)... For me that really ruins what I feel dead rising should be. Maybe it wouldn't make sense stroy-wise, but from the first time I've seen dead rising it was a super fun, crazy zombie sandbox... Now that I've played the first two games I know that it's much more restricting than what I imagined. It's still a good game, but for me at least, it feels needlessly difficult. If I want a difficult zombie survival game I can always play resident evil, dead rising should be about having fun instead(unfortunately a lot of design choices contradict that.) There's few other things I wanted to mention – the music is great(good range of tracks – from intense boss fight music with lyrics to calm, almost-nostalgic tunes), the cutscenes are better than in the first game, but they still feel kinda old. I don't mind it too much, but it can sometimes feel jarring how cutscenes look worse than regular gameplay graphics(regular gameplay graphics and style I really like, but the cutscenes look different from that and I'm not sure it's in a good way), they're still good if judging by what happens in them and stuff like camera angles, direction of movement and all that important stuff though.
Overall, I would still recommend it to people who like zombie games and want a crazy, wacky one, especially if you played and liked dead rising 1. It's just a really good sequel and a fun zombie game.

One of my favorite games of all time, this edition will require you to download the tool to make the game with controller. Besides that the game plays great and Co-op still works.
such an op game, peak dead rising
Somehow this game improves on the gameplay while being technically less sound than its predecessor. The co-op is a welcome addition when it works, but the fact that you have to use a specific resolution setting (60hz Vsync) for optimal results is a little bizarre. Also there is no built in support for xbox one controllers despite DR1 working with them out the box. Even with the fix proposed by the community mine inexplicably stopped working about 80% through the story.
It's a fun time and worth the money if you can look past its flaws.
This is the best $20 i spent. I can ride a fucking tricycle in the middle of a zombie-infested mall
i lik benig chunk gren an he get medsin fr katy zomberx n sumutim im undwer ! pley 60 hz or coop bnot workig! i bet tthe repoter smels lik mangos
great game 10/10
hehehe
Used to be fun, probably better to get the remastered game. I wouldn't pay more than 10 bucks for this
For the love of all that is good, Capcom: WHERE is Case Zero and Case West?!
fun game,
however, player 2 data in co-op doesn't save items
david said so
It's a really fun game. It has better combat than Dead Rising 1 and the inclusion of combo weapons was brilliant. I also liked Chuck as a protagonist, but Frank is obviously the best. The story also isn't as cheesy as the first game in my opinion. It's worth the time and money.
its harder than it looks
Freezes on Launch... Even After Waiting It Out. It Will Freeze Again Every Couple Seconds. Unless you Bought the Bundle When It Was on Sale its Not Worth Buying... DONT BUY THIS GAME
Same Can Be Said For DR 2 Off The Record...
good sequel yay
It's a fun couch potato game that u can play anytime you want.
Great game ran completely fine on my modern pc, Keyboard and mouse controls are actually very smooth. Couldn't get a controller to work without using a steam community layout. Took me like 15 hours to beat the main story. Tons of good combo weapons tons of fun.

Was probably a good game when it first came out. Hasn't aged well though. 20 minutes of terrible cut scenes, poor controls, outdated graphics and crap animations was enough for me.
Don't pay more than 7 bucks for it or you'll feel ripped off. Better still, put that towards a much better modern game.
One for the old game collectors only.
It all started here... (My lore)
i have played this game for many years. one of the best games for the x box 360. i wanted to relive my younger years by beating this game again, only to find out that it does not support xbox controls. ruins the entire gameplay
great zombie fun
The best part of this game was Rebecca Chang. The things i'd let that woman do to me....
The Cooler Daniel
good but controller no work :(
Great sequel that doesn't feel like a re skin with much needed features that the old one was missing. PLUS GAMBLING
its like the first one, but good
port sucks. game good. perfect cross of dead rising 1 elements and new stuff that still feels like 1.
blunt object goes wham zombie gos dead and counter goes tick
Variety of weapons is fun and very creative. This keeps combat from feeling too repetitive. Kill counter for zombies is a nice touch and goes well with the arcadey aesthetic. The story is OK so far and fairly coherent. Overall a well designed game that holds up well after all these years.
Case file expired with a recent save, locked out of the main story unless we restart. No Thanks
Otherwise, fun game.
I would personally recommend the game to people who are newer to the Dead Rising series or just new to zombie games as a whole because this game is genuinely perfect, Dead Rising 1 was good but Dead Rising 2 is so much better because of its story, different endings, and characters.
Now moving on to something that also really makes this game fun is the crafting system, I think its so cool how off the bat you can make a really good weapon just by getting one weapon from the safe room and the other right next to the first crafting station you can see, it makes the game a lot more fun and personally I would even say its one of the best parts of the game entirely as almost everything you can see you can combine, hell you can even combine a teddy bear and a machine gun.
Another great part of dead rising 2 however, is the characters, more specifically the psychopaths you encounter throughout the game, they all represent different things just as one of the bosses represents grief over a loved one and another shows lust and resentment over the fact that their father doesn't approve of them due to being a virgin. So these characters really make it better to see how the impacts of the first game really mess them up.
Beautiful game, and it may be buggy or kind of crappy at certain parts but it is a really old game, and even for an old game I dare to say its better than most modern games. I really recommend this game and this is my 4th review so I apologize in advance if my review seems kind of shitty, to whoever sees this and buys the game, I hope you have as much fun as I did!:D
Good game but the servers for coop are complete dogshit
I mean it's Dead Rising 2. The DLC don't work last I remember, and I don't think this got the "Remastered" treatment like the modern console ports. I'd prefer it if we got those as an optional sidegrade when purchasing these games. Either way, good game, I recommend.
Dead Rising 2 takes everything that was frustrating about the first game and improves on it in almost every way. The restrictive save system is more forgiving, the survivors are actually competent instead of brain-dead liabilities, and the combat feels smoother with tons of new combo weapons that make mowing down zombies way more fun. Chuck Greene is also a more likable protagonist than Frank West, with a more personal and engaging motivation driving the story.
The setting of Fortune City is a great evolution of the mall from the first game, offering a larger and more varied environment filled with weapons, vehicles, and plenty of ways to creatively dispatch zombies. The combo weapon system is a fantastic addition, adding an extra layer of strategy and fun to the gameplay. Whether you're duct-taping chainsaws to a paddle or strapping dynamite to a football, the sheer variety of ways to cause chaos is one of the game's biggest highlights.
Overall, Dead Rising 2 refines and expands on the original in all the right ways, making for a much smoother and more enjoyable experience while keeping the series' signature blend of action and dark humor intact. Does the game do anything amazing to warrant me giving it a higher score? No, but that's okay because there is nothing wrong with just a good zombie game.
7/10 (Good)
Game wont launch. Black screen freeze immediately. Tried many different posted solutions with no success. Total waste of money.
the game is very good in story and gameplay but theres no controller support and I would definitely have more hours in the game if I didnt have half of my left arm for movement and be uncomfortable trying to position my arm the way to properly move
funny zombie game got robbed and kidnaped
Great game although the last mission boss can shoot through walls and do massive damage against you.
In my personal humble opinion.. The Best Dead Rising Game.
Great game, my review is 12 years late, but here it is...
no modern controller support lol what a joke
where the fuck is our controller support DICKHOLES
If you are looking for a Zombie hack and slash this is not it, The game is more annoying than difficult. waste of time and money. I did buy DR 1 2 3 and 4 so i will try 3 and 4 as well to see if theyre worth anything.
this game is very fun, especially in co-op mode :)
Outdated port. no modern controller support and the game permanently giving me a black screen after trying to alt tab it are immediate glaring issues. Yes, it even black screened me on different desktop tabs and I had to click stuff in task manager in the allotted time windows gave me every time I hovered over it on the task bar after pressing the windows key. No, there's not even an option to make it windowed for Borderless Fullscreen (the app). This coupled with what other issues I've been hearing about this port made me give up rather quickly, and killed my recent desire to binge the series after recently complete dead rising 1. Please only get this when capcom decides to give a damn and give the same quality the dead rising 1 port gave, which will be never.
before playing this game i had no girlfriend, no friends, and no will to live. after playing this great game with some annoying and tedious moments like the psycho's being way more annoying to kill than in the DRDR, none of those 3 things had changed. regardless tho this game was great.
7/10
