I was really disappointed with the lack of controller support for this game. The first game played just fine with a controller but for some reason Capcom wont add controller support and the steam input wont work either.
this game is like if Jack Nicholson's life was made into a video game
Attempted to play this but it doesn't actually support controller. I attempted following guides and installing inputs, but nothing worked. I'm too old to switch to keyboard, I just wanted to have fun. This is actually a huge downgrade for me. Used to play this on the 360 and it was great. I guess it's just a memory now.
A good sequel, and a great new protagonist. A father, a motorcross legend, and an enjoyer of one-liners.

Garbage port, capcom shits on it's audience like always. didn't even care enough to make the game co-op invite after they removed windows live from the game.
It wasn't that bad of a game and I think the combo weapons were a neat idea 7/10
I loved the part where chuck said it's rising time and he dead rising'd all over those zombies.
Always really liked the safehouse vibe of bunkering somewhere and helping as many people as you can. It's not perfect, I had some issues where I couldn't start up the game because I ended up tapping on the windows key when the game starts up and it freezes sometimes when I fully charge up or am low on battery, (and other aspects like taming snowflake or learning poker) but it wasn't enough to take away from this. Enjoyed smashing up zombies, story was simple and kind of corny but fun, the time limit aspect was stressful but sold the urgency of whatever story issue was going on. Overall, really liked goofing around and exploring Fortune City, would 100% buy a remaster in 2024.
100 times better than the Dead Rising Deluxe Demaster.
No support for xbox one controllers. Even upon plugging in an xbox 360 controller the same issue occurs even though that is supposed to be the recommended controller. Every setting has been tried at this point so I am sure it is not me. It's also insanely common amongst the community to the point where thousands have resorted to using configs that turn the controller into wasd and mouse within steam input instead of using x360ce which is another pain in the ass in my opinion. Could be a major deal breaker for many, like myself. CAPCOM STOP RELEASING NEW GAMES AND FIX YOUR OLD ONES SO WE CAN ENJOY THEM

Game isn't bad, but the Steam/PC version doesn't run well. Just get it for Xbox 360 if you really want to play it
As a disclaimer, I loved this game on PS3 when I originally played it.
This PC port of the game is a horrible buggy mess. Alt-tabbing freaks the game out, and will sometimes cause it to freeze permanently, effectively crashing your game. Constant audio and video bugs. The game will sometimes just not want to run at all. Random lag spikes. Long load times. And worst of all, there's no controller support if you use one of those USB Xbox One controllers like I do.
Not sure how much support other controllers have, but it took me 2 hours, and downloading a 3rd party program, just to be able to use controller.
They will never fix this port, I'm almost certain there's a cracked version of the game that runs better than this.
Even though I haven't played this game in years, I really enjoy it!!! And yeah, I still suck at it, but we play again and again and again.

Been trying to get into the game, but controller support just doesn't work like it's supposed to and it constantly crashes every so often. Would probably work on other people's PCs but my laptop is probably just not good at running this game idk. Couldn't even finish the game bc the constant crashing got really annoying and I was tired of saving after every second bc of that (which of course doesn't help that you can only have 3 save slots in the game).

Dead Rising 2 is fun with a friend! the story is "okay" id say but most of the fun comes from boss fights, freedom to do whatever within the worldspace and playing with my friend who makes this game a joy to play with.
we try'd to 100% the game together however some achievement require doing PvP Area battles and no one and I mean NO ONE is playing these mini games anymore. making almost impossible. you'd have to find a group of people willing to get on for 50+ matches to get these achievements.
otherwise its a fun game! 7/10

Is one of the best zombie games out there,but a few achievements are busted and controllers don't work for a very clearly controller based game,so just wait for the remaster :)
"Dead Rising 2" is a chaotic and entertaining zombie survival game that allows players to let loose their creativity by crafting a wide range of weapons from common household items. The game's over-the-top action and humor make it a truly unique experience.
Great game, especially with co-op. But Co-op is kinda 50/50 if it will work or not, but solo it's still great and worth playing through.

This game just freezes during the intro credits every time the first time I start it up.
Aside from that, the controls seem fluid until you suddenly stop too often because continuous inputs don't seem like a thing all the time for interactions and movement. This leads to a plethora of frustrating moments where you have to retry the command you were already telling the game (especially during frantic moments).
The falling can be absolutely antagonistic at times, specifically from small heights. Gravity will frequently go slow-mo, which sets you up for some zombies to snack on WAY too often.
The audio is clearly improperly balanced. I can't hear anyone saying shit without having to crank it up, only to then crank it down because the other effects are too loud. I tried balancing it myself, but some idiot made the VA lines hardwired in to the existing sound. So even when I turn sound down, but crank my speakers, it just turns out the same. Clearly the audio was never changed from the console (there was no such problem back then).
Unfortunately, as much as I liked this game before, the narrative is trash and offers Chuck no room to grow as a character. His reactions and demeanor are as safe as they get, with only the one-liners giving him something interesting personally - but it is quipping for the sake of the Player, nothing more. Other characters are also incredibly weak (serviceable at best in some cases) - Capcom played safe and gave us a snoozer of a story. Trying to prove your innocence had promise, but only if everyone is as brain-dead as the zombies. Also, Chuck's daughter plays little role in the game outside of justifying a timer, or being kidnapped.
All-in-all, the game is fun if you literally ignore every aspect it tries to sell you on, and just stick to zombie killing. Psychos are the best part obviously, but their moments are aggressively too short. Then again, other games have those, and do them better. If you're nostalgic, go for it, but be ready for jank.
tl;dr:
Game's fun, but expect problems, and don't expect much from a literal B-rate horror movie-esk game (not the good kind of B-rate either). You know the ones.

Yeah, I'm thinking you should buy this game when it's on sale and play it with your close friend or family member. You simply won't regret it...
And this fun game is yet another blatantly obvious reminder on why CO-OP horror games will always be better than single player games. Always. Capcom should relearn this lesson and make more of them, like they used to. And they should make another Dead Rising like this that's fresh and new, and very, very Japanese. That way it wouldn't be an unholy Western abomination like DR3 and DR4 are, and wouldn't be just a rotting, bloated corpse propped up on past laurels like all their other forgettable remakes in recent years either.
Dead Rising 2 is pure, chaotic joy when played with a friend, like a never-ending carnival of zombie-slaying fun. You and your buddy, like two lazy Buddhas, drift through Fortune City’s madness, not rushing, not worrying—just enjoying the absurdity of the world around you.
There’s something deeply satisfying about combining the most ridiculous items to create weapons that only add to the chaos. Whether you're smashing zombies with a spiked bat or mowing them down with a motorcycle and chainsaws, the game doesn't ask for precision or strategy—it just wants you to have fun.
The co-op mode feels like two enlightened beings, calmly strolling through waves of the undead, laughing at the ridiculousness of it all. You and your friend, in perfect harmony, take on the hordes without stress, knowing that even in defeat, it's all part of the absurd journey.
Dead Rising 2 is not about victory—it's about the joy of the moment, the shared laughter, and the realization that sometimes, the best way to deal with a zombie apocalypse is to relax, grab a silly weapon, and have a good time with a friend.
Truly a 2010 video game, having just replayed it with a friend.
Does not remember your chosen resolution between launches.
No borderless windowed without a patch, even then didn't seem right.
Does not support widescreen without a patch that bluescreened me on first install.
Cannot join a friend without using an arcane ritual(ie both send mutual invites to game, intended host opens but does not accept, player 2 accepts, then host rejects invite and player 2 can join(thank you guy on the steam forum, how did you ever find this shit worked?))
Can't screen share on discord without it crashing.
Most bosses would be beyond laggy.
Two thirds through the game the character models in cutscenes would stop showing and most NPCs would be t-posing, this included the last boss who thanks to this was unable to properly fight back and got cheesed almost right away.
Despite this, I would actually recommend the game, but not for 18,99€, maybe like half that, since the competitive(lmao) multiplayer is beyond dead and co-op is bordering completely broken.
Somehow Off the Record is buggier than this? I'm scared to even try.

Not worth buying it in my opinion unless you have the right controller... because having to get an emulator just to run a specific controller for this game is beyond idiotic and it doesn't tell you that it does not support controller for PC until you purchase it.
Clunky at times but fun game and decent story
Great game but the port was never updated with the re-release on 8th gen consoles, to play with a controller, which is recommended, you need an emulator to mimic a 360 controller.
Dead Rising 2 is a game that, for some, thrives on its uneven structure, but for me, those same elements made it hard to enjoy. The gameplay often feels disjointed, with significant lulls where the player is simply waiting for the next objective. While some may appreciate the downtime, I found it frustrating as it interrupts the pacing and momentum of the game.
The core gameplay largely consists of running through massive hordes of zombies, engaging in combat only when absolutely necessary. This quickly became monotonous, especially as you repeatedly revisit the same areas. The need to preserve weapon durability encourages avoiding combat, which feels counterintuitive for a zombie game where you’d expect action to be a major focus.
While I generally don't emphasize story in games, the narrative here didn’t grab me either. Fortunately, it’s skippable for those who prefer to dive straight into the gameplay.
The game also suffers from strange difficulty spikes. The core experience often feels too easy, as the zombies themselves rarely pose a real threat to the protagonist. However, the survivors you're tasked with protecting are far more vulnerable, adding a layer of micromanagement that feels more like babysitting than a real challenge. Boss fights, while a bit gimmicky, are probably the most interesting aspect of the game, with each one relying on specific patterns to defeat. Unfortunately, this can make them feel more like puzzles than engaging battles.
Ultimately, Dead Rising 2 didn’t click with me. Its uneven pacing, repetitive environments, and reliance on avoiding combat make it difficult to recommend. That said, I can understand why others might enjoy these very features, especially if they’re looking for something slower-paced or prefer managing resources and planning ahead over constant action.

Not a bad game that has aged VERY poorly. You shouldn't be playing it now, especially not alone. You will get a very negative experience from how the mechanics, controls, and gameplay in general have aged. If you have friends who are willing to play with you - then you can give it a try.
The story is just exist. You can delete the game as soon as you get bored with the gameplay, which as I said above has aged badly.
This game is similar to the first one however they lean more into the goofy comedic side of things!
One moment you will be slaying zombies the next you are wearing a crop top and a Servbot mask while riding a tricycle.
You play as Chuck Greene a Motocross superstar. Chuck can make these unique combo weapons out of junk which help him throughout the story!
The Multiplayer is where its at though. Every Dead Rising game from this point forward I recommend playing with a friend!
Getting all of the unlockables in this game is a very fun task aswell!
A few issues stand out and they can be quite annoying due to the game using "Games for windows-live" however once you figure out how to work around that it runs quite well!
9/10!
