Free To Play in August 2017
In August 2017, Xemo will move to Free to Play. This will happen with the release of version 1.6. In the future, we'll introduce the Xemo Robot Builder and robot part kits as paid DLC. If you purchased the game prior to August 1st, you'll get equivalent credit in DLC when released.
Evolution Engine Added Sept 2017
For release 1.7, we've added the Evolution Chamber, which includes and evolution engine used to evolve your robots behavior. This is still experimental, so play around with it and let us know what you think. We will be adding penalty constraints to the fitness function along with ability to evolve the motion of a subset of robot joints. Lots more to come.
About the Game
Xemo is a physics-based simulation of a humanoid robot. Highly detailed graphics and a refined user interface allow you to quickly create new robot motions such as crouching, crawling, jumping, rolling, walking and climbing. Combine your motions in a control sequence to solve the game's challenging obstacle courses. Compete against your friends and rivals to move to the top of the leader board for each level. You are rewarded for sharing motions with the Xemo community, and can continue to improve your robot's performance using better, faster and more efficient motions. How fast and agile is your robot? Play Xemo and discover just how good you are.We just added: (v1.7 Sept 2017)
- The Balance Controller redesigned for bipedal robots.
- Leader boards - one per level
- Evolution engine for evolving complex robot motion behaviors
This simulation game already includes:
- Xemo : a robot with 13 joints with a total of 24 DoF (Degrees of freedom)
- Sami - a simple 4-legged robot that you teach to crawl, turn, walk, jump andturn over.
- Buster - a more complex 4-legged robot that can walk something like an ant.
- Fido - the dog-like robot that has hip and knee joints - a greater challenge!
- Integrated rigid-body physics simulation
- The Robot Lab where you create new robot motions
- The Pattern Editor, which you use to creation motions for your robot.
- The Game Levels (16) where you compete with your robot
- The Gravity Well, to suspend and position the robot in mid-air
- The Joint Editor, used to adjust the robots ankle, knee, hip, abs, shoulder, elbow and neck joints
- The Spring Editor, used to set the speed and strength of each joint
- Environment and machine sound effects
Early Access
Come and join us to help shape the future of Xemo! We need your help. This first version of the game includes the motion pattern editor, the motion sequencer, fully functional bipedal robot and four game challenge levels. Our plan is to release a new version every month over the next year, with these features planned:
Roadmap for Future Releases
- Xemo Robot Builder - build your own robot designs from parts! (in development now!)
- Robot Kits - pro designed robots that you can use in the game challenges.
- Motion sharing through the Xemo game server
- Ghost recording and sharing (allow in-game playback of other player's motion recordings)
- Learning Guides for classroom use
- Player Scripting (Lua/Javascript) interface through XemoAPI for direct robot control. VS Code debugger integration
- Data capture, export and plotting of robot motion (joint trajectories, center of mass, rigid body position, acceleration, rotation)
- Robot skins and colorization
- Cool ideas for expansion from the community from players like you!

I have had an amazing time with testing around with the in-game mechanics and physics with Xemo, Although sometimes it can be extremely frustrating. I adore the direction in which this game is taking. I only hope to see more improvements. Thank you for the experience!
I would suggest maybe adding in moving objects to the obstacle courses (Ex. Swinging axes, rotating platforms, )
or allowing custom built obstacle maps in the future.
Still looking forward to the pause physics button! :D
The very best thing I've been able to get the robot to so far is to mosh like I've never seen anyone mosh before, which is pretty fun all by itself. Otherwise I see a lot of educational (as well as pure fun) potential for this game. A few things that I would love to see:
-Example motions, to help teach the finer elements of motion control.
-Placing gravity well/robot in different spots of the lab
-Live motion recording, recording a joint as you manipulate it with the mouse
-I'd love to push the robot down some stairs :D
The UI is rather intuitive, a quick tutorial catches you up on the not as obvious parts as well (Shift-clicking, double shift-clicking)
Full disclosure, I do personally know the developers, but I wouldn't recommend this game unless I really thought it was a quality product. They did not ask me to come here and review their product, and I paid full price.
