The Isle: A World Designed to Kill You
The Isle is intended to be a gritty, open-world survival horror game. Explore vast landscapes of dense forest and open plains, traverse treacherous mountains and wade through dark swamps where horrors lurk. Hidden within are ruins that hold insight as to what came before. Through it all, keep in mind there is only one goal: survive.
There is little in the way of hand holding or ulterior precepts to alter play styles or purpose. It's kill or be killed. In the end, the only one you can trust is yourself. Over the course of development the islands and their inhabitants will radically change, ever-evolving as players themselves learn how to flourish and thrive. Your mistakes will be punished. Expect no survivors.
Massive Prehistoric Multiplayer
Become the beast within. When joining The Isle, you can play as one of dozens of unique creatures, from tiny darting herbivores like Dryosaurus to blood-thirsty giants such as T. Rex or Allosaurus (with many more still to come!) As a dinosaur, you'll be the epitome of majestic, cunning and ferocious. Use your natural abilities and senses to stay off the menu and grow into a stronger, more capable creature.
Engage with a living prehistoric ecosystem as you become either predator or prey on servers featuring up to 100+ players, all of them as hungry and dangerous as you. Form packs/herds, create nests, defend your offspring, hunt, and claim territory. A single mistake can spell your demise.
Survival or Sandbox?
The Isle's core game mode is Survival, a tense and difficult experience where you need to grow fast or die young. Dinosaurs in Survival mode progress through several life stages, starting out small and vulnerable. Use your scent ability, night vision and wits to survive long enough to grow, becoming more powerful and unlock new abilities such as nesting. Because of the time needed to develop a full character life cycle, not every creature is or will be playable in Survival, though more will be added in future updates.
However, sometimes you don't want to struggle to survive, or you don't have the time to go through a dinosaur's whole life story. And that's okay. For players who want a less intense experience, Sandbox mode lets you play an expanded roster of dinosaurs (and soon humans!). You can jump right in as an adult super predator or a peaceful giant, with no major penalties or consequences from dying. We won't judge.
A Global Community Story
The Isle features a narrative told strictly through the environment, achievable only through immense cooperation among players. Are you stranded? Can you just leave? What is AE? How did the dinosaurs get here? What is the distant call that pierces the night?
It will take the entire community to answer these mysteries and unravel the purpose to their being on The Isle, and each discovery will directly affect the future of the game's storyline.
Future Development Goals
We realize that there is a long road ahead, and a lot of work to be done to turn this into the game we want it to be. Throughout development, we will be adding a lot more to The Isle and incorporating user feedback in how we evolve the experience. Some of our planned features include:
- Playable aquatic and aerial creatures
- Even more playable dinosaurs with complete life cycles
- Two new playable factions: modern humans & the indigenous
- Evolve into advanced "strain" versions of certain dinosaurs
- Realistic dinosaur AI that uses complex behaviours
- Additional world biome types such as thick jungles
- Dynamic aerial drop-in spawn system
- Global in-game world quest
- Localization of all in-game menus & text
- Better accessibility & customization options
- Steam Achievements, Trading Cards, Emotes
- Mod support using Steam Workshop
All that and more are on our radar going forward. We started with a plan of just a mere handful of playable carnivores, but based on player demand we expanded our scope, increased that number greatly and introduced herbivorous dinosaurs as well. Listening to our community has been instrumental in guiding our process and helped to correct our mistakes, and we hope that together we can transform The Isle into the ultimate dinosaur game.

Love the game play and the design of the game pluss when playing evrima the graphics are really good. Side note better hide when your small or your gonna be a nice snack for a bigger dino.
Specifically talking about evrima, this sucks. They themselves have said they don't cater to players while also being upset when said players criticize their game. They wont listen to the community. Each update breaks some crazy things that you wouldn't even imagine happening. The Halloween event was empty because of the horrid updates.
These dinosaur survival game devs still haven't figured out a fun and compelling gameplay loop that actually incorporates PvE elements in to supplement the PvP world. Instead, we get an empty walking simulator with permadeath that has you waiting in a bush for 5-10 hours before you can participate in the game's only activity (PvP) with nothing to do in between except drink water and stare at pixelated grass and foliage. Even fixing the game's horrible optimization and ridiculous balancing won't be enough if they can't nail the gameplay and give people a reason to keep playing. I can't get my friends to want to play through this slog and the ones that did quit a couple of days in and I can't get them to return and I don't blame them. I genuinely want this game to have a future but if the developers don't stop acting like they're better than everyone else and finish the product we paid for, it can stay in the past with the dinosaurs.
I really really want to enjoy this game and give good review as I've spent almost 1000 hours on this game but I just can't at it's current state. The game has it's plus and cons - like every game. But there are some things I truly just don't understand right now. I might update this review later on if things take a better turn (unless I get banned for leaving this negative review as I've understood from the community lol).
Things I find bad at their current state:
1: The performance issues are awful, they truly are.
2: The devs are changing things that were ok at some point and now some of them are just really bad. E.g. I guess they wanted more interaction between players so they've reduced AI _BUT_ they also disabled a chance to pick your spawn point -> now you run in dead areas of map without finding any players OR AI and either die of mixpackers or hunger, trying to work your way to the hot spots you know you could find food from. Starving is the most frustrating and biggest problem for me right now, especially if I manage to grow my dino for hours to a full grown state and then I die because there is literally no food anywhere.
3: I've run into SO many cheaters in this game (I know right, cheaters in a DINOSARU sim?!) The reporting system is utter **** as you need to report trough Discord (there is no option to report trough game) and you should be recording your gameplay to prove that you died to a cheater. Like. Why is it so hard to make a report system ingame? By the time you maybe manage to start recording the game, you're already dead because of the cheater. It's ridiculous and so frustrating because first you grow your dinosaur literally for HOURS and die to a cheater and nobody gives a **** and that's basically your own fault because YoU DidN'T ReCoRd YOuR GamEPlaY. Duh. Also, if you try to warn other players on official Discord server of the cheater and tell their ingame location, your messages will be deleted. :)) So have fun dying to a cheater whom are free to roam around the map without any punishment at all!
4: Mixpackers are annoying problem too, as there are no rules at all for them on Official Servers. I truly would like to play on Official Servers as the community servers usually have way too much rules. But I guess this is just a me-problem. (Somehow I just thought the game was supposed to be somewhat realistic but maybe the herbivores and carnivores really did mixpack back in their days! *laughs in dinosaur*)
5: The queue times to servers are insane sometimes. When a new patch gets launched, DO NOT expect to get on a server even within hours. I don't understand why there ain't no more Official Servers as there is always queue to the existing ones, especially when new patches come out?? Queuing on normal days takes usually anything from 15-40 mins which is insane as your game will probably get bugged at some point so you need to restart and do the queuing all over again.
6: I think most of the people literally only want new dinos and performance issues to be fixed, but instead we are getting reworked maps etc. and the reworks are just not good. We still don't have got the elderly system either which I've been waiting for years.
I don't know. I really love and hate this game at the same time. I've found some amazing people to play with from this game though. I think it's the only good thing right now. I didn't want to write a review earlier but it just has been a big downhill for a while now. I'd recommend people to wait for the game to be more balanced in every possible way before getting it. As said, I might update this review later on.
I have 15 minutes of gameplay. It was great spending them and at least 30 mins more to read how to make this game to start. Go do this, go delete this file, open with note pad write -1 instead of 0 and etc. It was a great experience, but I would love someday to be able to start it and play for real.
P.s. Solve your problem as said above I would love to play your game for real, without the need of me becoming a developer myself.
I don't write reviews, and there was a time when I loved this game. I'm telling you right now, do not spend a second or a dime playing this. Its a total waste of your time and appreciation. The developers are completely delusional and clearly don't play the product they are developing. Mixpacking (playing different species, talking on discord, indiscriminately ganking and removing the few functional aspects of balance the game has) is completely ruining the game across all servers i've wasted my time on this week. There is no plan to resolve this ridiculous, unintended issue, and no acknowledgement from the devs, this will only will continue to get worse and it's already made the game unplayable. You will spend most of your time as a new player running around wondering where everyone is only to realize they are all in the same area of this needlessly large map, actively destroying the server with their play, then you will die over and over again, never getting the satisfaction of a good fight. If you'd like to wait 10-40 to get into your server, spend time learning an unbalanced system, struggle with sudden disgusting FPS drops (100 to 5) due to player density, and if you are ambitious attempt to deal with an echochamber kool-aid drinking community led by devs that truly don't care about glaring issues, then welcome to paradise. This is a poorly optimized time gambling game, made exponentially worse by a degenerate community. All potential is overshadowed by how miserable this experience has become, and it's truly a shame. Trust me, and do not start thinking it's going to get better. It's only getting worse. And it's a massive shame.
developers are stinky and the game would be better if the developers listened to the community more and stopped making things worse, the game is alright :)
Not now. ping gets to 180 out of no where. Queue time is crazy and servers sometimes just dont work.
Trash game. Horrible performance, boring gameplay and toxic playerbase. Do not recommend.
In the beginning of my journey with the isle it was incredible and I loved playing it so much. When I bought it there was only legacy servers which gradually upgraded to evrima. For awhile now I have been playing the new branch and let me tell you it’s not worth the $20. You enjoy the play style of stego, you won’t enjoy it now when the horde testing switches to the main branch. You enjoy having full diets and full belly all the time? You won’t enjoy it when horde testing adds it to the main branch. Never in my life would I have thought that my 1k hours played in this game would be destroyed by decisions to add things into this game. I use to recommend this game to literally anyone and everyone. Now I’m telling them to not even bother with it bc ITS NOT WORTH IT ANYMORE.
This game has been kicking the can down the road since 2016 and not only does it not have a gameplay loop, the map isn't finished. The devs just play with their dino dolls on private servers and post hundreds of 'Update' videos on dinosaurs that will never ever make it to the live version. Save your money.
current iteration is completely broken and laggy as hell, still nothing that can even come close to properly fighting stego, not to mention stego now has a one shot attack against everything except maybe deino not like it matters because it still shits on deino, and the servers are completely lag filled and have absolutely no work done to fix the latency issues.
I think it's very obvious that I would recommend this game considering how many hours I have in it. This game is very immersive and I personally believe that the community is amazing. I have seen and died to a few hackers and some rude people here and there, but that goes with every pvp game you play. They're still currently working on the game and the videos they have on there page is the old version. I will be honest and say that they are extremely slow on the updates and they have been in the early access stage for years. There's not a huge selection of dinosaurs to play right now, but the ones that they have out you can tell they put love into. Me personally I feel like this is the best survival dinosaur game out there that you are going to find right now. Hope to see even more players join <3
This game is slowly progressing into a better version of what it previosuly was. Slow roll out on updates but for content that it currently has, i would still reccomend it to those who enjoy a more realistic feeling dinosaur game.
Pros:
- Clean graphics & Animations
- Some what balanced so long as you're taking your time and learning your dinos & mechanics
- Affordable and fairly priced game for what it really is.
- Can always choose play style regardless of creature, wether to be a faster more agressive player or more chill and vibey. I would say its very free range and as a player, adaptable to your playstyle.
Cons:
- Very slow rolling out new dinos, updates , Fixed [though fixes has been more speedy lately]
- Could improve some performace and smoother FPS. [Overall could use a bit more optimization in certain areas]
- PERSONAL OPINION; Could have a better hunting, scenting system. [Slight tweaks and imporovemnts]
- Would love a better balance and availability on food for certain species
These are all personal opinons id rate it overall for the genre & mission of the game 7.8 out of 10 in its current state. Easily could get up to 8.5 - 9 with these small tweaks and additions in mind.
I would reccomend this if you like games like Ark, Path Of Titans, and any other dinosaur based game.
***Excuse my typos & grammar***
I'm shocked it took me this long to realised this game is nothing but a time waste and doesn't even reward a player with entertainment.
I'm sad I wasted 8 hours growing a croc to learn the game has 3 rivers so escape isn't a thing and that's after starting to try to grow one 16 times. Crocs kill on sight, cannibalism is the only solid source of food for these dinosaurs since the AI doesn't need water, they don't need to visit water and will sense you approaching even if you're underwater. AI will despawn on you and in front of you.
wasted time a cera, was killed by starvation 3 times before finally getting a kill against a dilo, later starved to death.
I decided to try the dilo and found out real fast it's poison doesn't do much damage, talked to other dilos and found out it summons ghost versions of yourself to attack the target, they do damage if they hit but they get stuck and stopped by EVERYTHING. Rock, stopped. Tree, stopped. Water, stopped. Blade of grass, stopped. Useless.
I grew the Troodon, its just a smaller version of the dilo who can jump. It's poison is just as useless and everything can kill you with one movement.
This is all just fighting other carnivores and every carnivore i've tried has pretty much the same experience.
Herbivores has a weird playstyle. It's fun growing one until you reach adulthood, now your time will be spent socializing and grazing with the occasional rush of going for a drink of water, hoping there are no crocs but also hoping there is just one to keep your group on their toes.
If nothing happens, all herbivores eventually become mixpackers, so they can get into fights while also rewarding a friend. If they don't become mixpackers, they will make the travel of death, going off on their own just to fight anything they see so they can fight until they respawn. To play a new dinosaur or start growing again.
That's just the game, I far too into the game when I learned about the Lead Dev and his enjoyment of the youth and how the dev team afterwards continues to gaslight players into thinking its normal to go after kids and then asked their players to ignore everything.
While alot of the time there are players who have WAY too much fun causing havoc and going on killing sprees... There are also just as many who are there to make friends and have fun with. It is because of those types of people that i Love this game. Helped me go through a really tough breakup, and now im married with my firstborn son on the way. Love this game!
Want to spend hours walking around, interacting with almost nothing, in a game that's been in early-access for a decade? Look no further.
its a work in progress that I've been following for years now. finally i picked it up, and the experience I've had so far has been brutally fun and adrenaline fuelled. and with updates further refining the gameplay and mechanics puts it above the other dino game i have played.
unpopular opinion but i don't enjoy the new night vision i preferred the previous version where it was black and white with colour splashing across the world when lightning struck! very stunning to look at and very scary. but i see why people prefer this version more.
another note is trying to convince my friends to play is really tough! i think this is down to the difficulty of meeting up after spawning in. however maybe there's an easier way to meet up i'm not aware of yet.
Incredibly unintuitive and boring. spawned in on a server that had 75 other players. saw a total of 3 other players in 2 hours. Spent most of that time running form bush to bush and drinking water. Then night time hits and you just go from a nice looking game to utter darkness with crappy night vision. And night last sooooo long. I just sat down and waiting all night to see what would happened and nothing happened beside getting hungry and thirsty again. Dino hit 100 growth and no clue what to do after that. nothing tells you to do anything. Character sheet lists random things and nothing is clickable. What the hell even is this game. Save youre money. much better games to play out there.
One of the best survival games i have ever played, bought it 3 days ago and i have 30 hours in this game. It is very good.
This game is fun, there is 4 versions but in reality 3. There is Legacy, Evrima, Spiro, and Hordetesting. Although I have not played Spiro the other 3 (2) are fun to play. But do be warned as growing a dinosaur will take hours upon hours. But from my experience so far I do recommend this game as it makes many new friends and foes. Please do consider buying this wonderful (but painful) game.
Play the official servers if you play, the unofficial servers will ban you for everything and anything and are almost always run by children.
Terrible game. You work for hours to grow a dinosaur. You learn to love this creature, help it live a full life, have children of it's own, only to watch it starve to death in a poorly placed hole you can't jump out of. 10/10 will do again.
This game is very immersive and fun, but I understand if its not for everyone. I think the best part of it is the social interactions and the interactions between players. For me, it almost feels like Journey. You can only communicate with calls with players from other species, and it allows for some close, special bonds. The game is no masterpiece, it has many flaws and jank, like getting stuck in terrain, server restarts, having to wait in queue sometimes... But it still has a special place in my heart. Each play session feels like a story. Here is something that happened to me that I will never forget:
- I was a baby stego, and met another baby pachy in sanctuary. He followed me, and we became travelling buddies. We went through many things throughout our journey together. We hid together at night as the raptors were closing in. He was fearless. He fought off attacking carnos and deinos, one time going up against 4 tenos at once. As we grew up, I went from a baby half his height to a towering giant, and it struck me that it is I who must now protect him. We travelled the world, searching for better food. We made friends with a little bird. We met other herbivores and chilled with them leisurely before moving on. I met another stego and had babies. My babies didn't make it, and my wife left. I told them that I'm not leaving this pachy behind because we've been through hell together. In the end, other baby creatures also joined our posse. In a desperate attempt to protect the little ones from a deinosuchus, I forgot that even though I was the protector of the herd, I wasn't invincible. A fully grown deinosuchus surprised me and dragged me to the depths. As I lay at the bottom of the river, drowning, on my last breath, I was crying in real life and thinking that I never got to tell the pachy I love him, and now I'll never see him again.
But I'm okay now, because I think he knows that in his heart, and there was no need for words.
2183 hours in this game and 2000 of it is waiting in a Q to be instructed that I forgot to wait in Q, or fatal erroring after 20 minutes. Mods in their official discord will ban you for asking a question or sometimes for no reason at all and will reject appeals with no reasoning. Game is just too broken to play still which kind of sucks because it had so much potential.
Horrible new player experience.
You buy the game, you download it, only to see it's nothing but botted Chinese servers.
Yep that's right. The devs haven't set the game to be the actual branch of the game you're supposed to be playing, the one the video on the store page is about, but a horrible outdated branch literally no one in the world is playing but bots.
Buy Path of Titans or Beasts of Bermuda instead.
I might recommend this game when it is beyond an alpha state, likely ten years in the future.
This game has a lot of potential. The community is great and the graphics are stunning, what few dinosaurs are in Evirma (the new build) are balanced and a lot of fun to play. The devs consistently put out dev logs and it's so fun to see everything being built. All of this to say, the servers suck. The servers are constantly being restarted and there's massive rollback every day. Over the past 3 days, we've had multiple server rollbacks from 6hrs to 24hrs+. And considering it takes certain dinosaurs (like the Deino) over 10+ hours to grow, it's definitely a frustrating experience. It's almost completely unplayable on AU servers because of the rollback. We've also had several server-wide crashes. These are the official servers, and they can't even maintain them enough to let their community play the game. Whenever you bring up the issue, you're told to just go onto an unofficial server - even though most people like playing on the official servers 'cause. you know, they're meant to be the good ones.
While I like the game (when it's working), I cannot in good faith recommend it in the state it's in currently. The community is fun and very friendly, and the best parts of the isle have been teaming up with other players and forming a massive raptor pack. So, if you're here for the gameplay - don't bother, you can't play the game. But if you're willing to stick out the bugs and server issues, there's a great community behind it.
This game continues to amaze me with how horrible the decisions of the developers are, with every update the game gets worse and worse. From unneeded balance changes to the developers not listening to the community and barely doing anything to fix the biggest problem, the performance, save yourself the headache and do. Not. Buy. This. Game
dogshit buggy barley even a alpha demo after 10 years, garbage
HACKERS!!!!! People are using WALL HACKS to see where all other players are. Playing Deino's its impossible to get full grown being hunted by cheaters all day and night. So many bugs still. I have an amazing bran new PC and this game runs form 5 fps to 40 fps at mostly low graphics. If i try to run it 3800 x w.e the game only shows in the top left corner of my screen and the other 3/4 of the screen is just glitchy looking. You starve, finally find something to eat then get glitched trying to eat it and now you cant eat, attack or pick anything up so you now have to relog. Oh wait there is a 50 player queue on either of the NA servers. So now i have a hour - 2 hour wait to get back in. They need to open another NA server, or get rid of the NO AI server that has 0 players in it and make another regular one. Its insane to expect player to wait for hours to get into a glitchy buggy game that they will due to bugs have to log back out of in no time flat. They also got rid of the ability to choose where to spawn so now you spawn in the top right corner of the map all the time which is really really really far from where everyone is playing. No way to kill yourself so you stand around for 10 mins to die from no food or water slowly. Clearly the devs suck or have no brains.
Its better to watch videos on the game than to play it. Its addicting yes, but hackers are insane, the devs have no worry about what the people say and with every update they mess it up even more. I would NOT recommend this game at all. Atleast not in 10 years.
I was so ecited for this game but in no capacity should it be eligible for sale. THIS GAME ONLY WORKS IF YOU ADD A SCRIPT. You shouldnt be allowed to sell a game you cannot play without tweaking it. Absolutely unacceptable.
Its overall a good dino game, but it is terrible to new players, with no tutorial or information in game, it is very hard for new player to figure out how to play on evrima and how each dino mechanic works. You can play 2 versions of the game, Legacy and Evrima, while legacy has more dinos and bigger maps, it has simpler mechanics, with long wait times to grow dinos, being basically a walking simulator, it only gets interesting while in a herd or group of carnivores. On the other hand, Evrima has many new mechanics, but they might be a bit too much and too complex for new players, one can only trully understand them through hours of gameplay or through watching tutorials on youtube, however, the mechanics makes the gameplay more interesting, with diets, patrol zones and migrations zones, it is no longer just a walking simulator, but rather a foraging and exploring simulator, and when the sun goes down, the game can quicly turn into a horror experience, with unkown sounds coming from the shadows and behind bushes, you'll never know when you're trully safe. One thing is common in both games is how it might be a bit unbalances, with juveniles easily killing adults, a new player could never know if a small dino is a threat or a meal. Still, is a game worth experiencing at least once, very fun alone and even funier with friends!
(also, sorry if my english is bad, its not my native language)
I was playing it side by side with my brother. As predator I was not able to find any other pray and died. Its beautiful big open world map, the sounds around you makes it quite nice but overall I find it boring: Walking/running, drinking, looking for pray, eat, repeat. I would not recomment it
really fun but i wish there was more stuff to do.. a lot of the game play is just sitting around until you are fully grown.
I bought the game but it wont let me host my own server and the only ones I can join are china servers with no npc/players for miles which makes it difficult to progress. I played almost an hour and had no opportunities to do anything in the game besides sprint and roar every 30 seconds.
Man, so much to say about this game if you know what I mean. While the models are top tier, the fps is a whole other issue. The game barely runs, and even the best pcs have trouble, it’s a very wonderful game but just trying to run it is a nightmare. The game has been in “beta” for who knows how long, and I don’t see it coming out of it anytime soon. Until this game has fixed these major issues I would steer clear, otherwise you will not have a great time.
After almost an hour of researching online, I finally found someone explaining that I had to download the EVRIMA public branch in order to play on supported servers. This was not made clear to me by the developers that I had to do this to play their servers. After getting on a server, it was not as impressive as people who play the game made it out to be. This game bores me but above all else it is inexcusable that the regular multiplayer browser for this game (9 years old) is almost broken. Excusable if the game was out for a few weeks and they were going to integrate the beta branch with the official game. Thanks to the community for explaining to brand new players they have to play on a public beta branch to actually play the game.
This is the best dinosaur simulator, sadly. they are slowly adding in new dinosaurs every so often, however I wish the updates would be more consistent. The game Path Of Titans, is what I'm comparing The Isle to, is worse because Path Of Titans is like a baby game with quests to grow and explore or find a home base or something. In my opinion dinosaurs did not have to go on quests to grow but what do I know. Over all I think that takes me out of the immersion. The isle is for men and women who really want to feel like they are in life or death situations from birth all the way to adult. If you have the attention span of a sea urchin then Path Of Titans is for you, but if you really want to experience the dread of night when little ding-a-ling dinosaurs are biting at the bushes to find the feet of an unsuspecting juvenile plant eating beta male or female (you), then this game is for you.
wanted this game for 8 YEARS!! when i finally got it i was so happy. This game is AMAZING!!
Its just like the videos ive seen, so fun to interact with people and just survive :D
Roleplaying is super fun too if u find the right server! I recommend this game to any dinosaur and survival game lovers ^_^
What an absolute garbage. The waiting time to connect to the server is absurd (can be up to 30 minutes to even populate the list of the servers, which requires lots of restarts of the game).
When (or rather if) you'll finally connect to the server you discover that the game has nothing interesting to offer. There are a few dinosaurs on a huge map, the tracking (scent) mechanism does not seem to be implemented so finding food/other dinosaurs is really hard.
Then after playing for one hour and discovering how truly boring, uneventful and dragging the whole experience is you discover that you can't even refund this misunderstanding of a product because you've spent 3 hours trying to actually play the game and you exceeded 2h playtime.
DO NOT BUY THIS. IT IS NOT IN A STAGE SUITABLE FOR EARLY ACCESS. It's at most a vertical slice.
where do I begin....
this game is the biggest Fustercluck I've played, falsely advertised dinos (seriously, no spino) bugs, annoying combat system, useless yet cool features (like wallowing) but then there is the beautiful models, scenery, concept is great. Just needs more improvement
4.5/10
great game, has an amazing community but can be toxic at times like any other survival game. would recommend
This review is mostly targeted towards those who subscribe to GeForce Now and are considering purchasing the game based on its availability on that platform.
tl;dr: don't buy this game if you subscribe to GeForce Now. You can't play the actual game, only a legacy version of it.
If you're considering buying this game thinking you're going to have access to the same game that you see when looking for reviews, trailers, or streams, stop right now. Look for another game. You will not be able to play that game. That version of the game is called Evirma and it's only accessible by accessing one of the experimental beta branches. Evirma is the ONLY version of the game receiving updates at this point and the ONLY version of the game to offer Official Server support. And, as you know, GeForce Now subscribers cannot access beta branches of any game on Steam.
What you will have access to is the Legacy version of the game which is on the main branch for some reason that I can't possibly wrap my head around. This version of the game is nothing like the current Evirma branch and it never will be because it's not receiving updates. There are no official servers to play on and the community servers are very limited at this point and often full. And while there may be some fun to have playing the Legacy version of this game that fun will dwindle very quickly once you realize you can't ever access the part of the game that is actually receiving updates.
It's like paying for a smartphone, but getting sold the flip with some future promise you might one day enjoy the full features...maybe. I say maybe because there isn't any single timeline I can find anywhere about when it will move to the main branch. When it does I will be happy to change my review to reflect how I feel about the actual game, but at the time of writing this, I simply don't know what that game is. I can't play it. Just the Legacy. Imagine buying Rust and only being able to access the Legacy version...
Aside from that, it's very deceptive to even have this deal with GeForce Now. I mean, it makes sense to want to have your game exposed to more players in an effort to maximize your sales...it doesn't make any sense at all to then not provide that very game, but instead the old version of it.
But...that's how it is right now. So to my fellow GeForce Now subscribers, I cannot possibly justify this game as a good purchase right now. In fact, I strongly suggest you save your money and wait for that to change.
The Isle is a pretty fun game to play solo or with friends. Playing solo you are guaranteed to meet new people since forming groups is better for everyone's survival. Growing and Nesting can take awhile but once you get your numbers and growth up you can start doing great things pvp wise. There is a learning curve for knowing the maps and the different dinosaurs and their sounds. But I highly recommend it. Some servers you can even have mods and the mods from the community are great. I have all Jurassic Park/World models and sounds and an autumn themed map downloaded. 10/10 game, I can't wait to see where it goes in the future.
Pros
You can be a dinosaur
Servers are full of people, you will often see other dinosaurs
Cons
Lack of colours
Herbivores have a hard time finding food, unlike carnivores that have food spawn near them when hungry; herbivores don't get this benefit. You either end up finding a lot of food or none at all.
Lack of dinosaur choices
Having to start from scratch every time you die
I want to give this game a lot of credit for it's realism and graphics. However due to one factor it takes away the fun and realism. LACK OF WILDLIFE. It's insane, what jungle or woods in the world can you walk through without seeing wildlife? Your whole time playing this game your just running around looking for food that barely exists. They tried to make it survival like with a struggle but its a little over the top. Good luck spending hours growing a dinosaur just to not be able to find food and all that time is wasted. Until this is fixed my review will stay negative and I won't be playing, it's just a waste of time
this game always lagged my computer, i'd be lucky to get 15 fps on the lowest graphic settings possible. ill come back with a gaming computer in the near future to play this game again
i didnt think the devs could screw this game even more.... its so sad i wish someone else would make a dino game. if you like to look at dinos and have a chat room this is the game for you.... enjoy the cheaters that never get banned anyone... YEP any1 who spends 500+ in this game would understand... its so bad
