Ngl took 10 tries for me to complete tutorial mission, but still nice game
Tedious game that relies too much on luck.
For a game named "Police Stories" the story is the most boring thing i ever played through.
AI one shots you in 0.1ms before you can even see them and have to restart the extremely long level all over again.
God playing through this sucked.
Very fun 4-6 hours
There were a few bugs like, unable to interact ("E"), weapon disappear, glitchy arresting action, crazy ping crash, and game crashes for unknown reasons...
But overall, if you can get a friend to play together, this is a fun game to suffer with your friends!
I've been playing this game with a friend and it's really fun I wish I could've discovered this game earlier cuz him and I were trying to find a good co-op game that we can enjoy. My experience was great the difficulty it's acceptable but sometimes I feel that the ai does some weird things but is not really that annoying, another flaw that I can find is that sometimes the co-op becomes really buggy, for example whenever I tried to play a game chapter with my friend once we skipped the dialogue it just showed our own players like we were playing individually. anyways it's a great game!

[td]Visually speaking, the game is pretty basic. It has this old school arcade game look to it. Personally, I actually like the aesthetic. It has a certain charm to it. The details in the maps are pretty good too! For example, killing an enemy leaves a trail of blood, and bloody footsteps do track around, which can lead you to an enemy, or to you. Bullet casing stays permanently, giving you a sense of immersion. The effects are pretty retro or arcady, like tear gas looking pretty odd, but looks just fine. Cutscenes do look super cool though, and well crafted.[/td]

[td]Police Stories is a top down tactical shooter. I will say, don’t judge a book by its cover. This game may look arcady, but it’s far from it. This game is brutal, and super punishing if you don’t take your time and really plan. Speed will kill you, so take your time and check your corners. The only speed that will help you, is your reaction time, and trust me when I say this game will test that. You will experience many one shot deaths early on before you get heavy armor. It’s overall super challenging. The gameplay loop? It’s pretty straightforward. Rescue civilians, stop the bad guys, and if there is a bomb, then defuse that. That’s really it. You do have many cool police gadgets, but to unlock them, you may need to play the story first. Every run you do on a level, the enemies will randomly spawn each time, so there is no remembering enemy placement. The level design is also really good. Most levels are tight, with many fatal funnels. The main gripes I have with this game, is mainly the AI teammate, and the use of deadly force mechanics. Now for the AI, he just feels super inconsistent. Now maybe it’s just me not using him well, but on some occasions, he will throw flashbangs in horrible angles, blind himself, look at the enemy and get killed (not all the time), etc. The other issue I have is the use of force. I don’t get how when a guy that has a knife or gun runs towards me, I can’t shoot him. For the knife (or bat) he has to be swinging first before I can shoot him. Now that, I guess I can probably be more understanding, but with the guys with guns going towards me, I can’t shoot him without being penalized? I don’t really like that. Maybe this is a way to balance the game, so it makes less lethal useful. That would make sense if that’s that case. Besides those complaints, the overall gameplay is really fun! [/td]

[td]The story is servable. It’s not horrible, but pretty generic and not unique. Team up with a long time friend, kill bad guys, find the main antagonist, and save the day. The story does go by super quick, and to be honest, I don’t remember much of it, and I just beaten the game lol. It is pretty forgettable. Not a trash story, it’s just okay enough to keep the game interesting until the end.[/td]

I had like 4 crashes in 2 hours at one point. I only get this crash after missions too, like during the cutscenes. Not all the time, but it was frequent enough for me to make a complaint in this review. So be warned about the crashes![/td]

Police Stories is a top-down, SWAT 4- like gameplay, where "shout first, shoot when threaten" is the ROE of the entire game. Of course the game comes with a service-able story that fits nicely with the game.
Impressive stuff
The pixelated graphics looks nice, and I love the vision cone mechanic too (that I can't replicate myself till this day). The ROE is literally 1 to 1 SWAT 4; You cannot shoot a fleeing suspect unless threaten.
Story wise, its something out of the any cop-themed TV series would do, fighting the baddies, betrayal by goodies, nothing special, but its serviceable and I don't mind at all.
Weapons and equipment are variety enough, even better, it gets even better as the supporter edition trumpet definitely takes the cake in terms of goofiness and tactical advantage (IYKYK)
Issues
Very obviously, alot of reviews already pointed out how horrible the AI works in this game. But I'll still add-on my personal observation on why the AI is lackluster and designed that way:
- The civilian and suspect AI is not the same as SWAT 4 morale system. The civilian and suspect AI seems to be running on RNG check afaik, like everytime you yelled at them, its either they instantly comply, stubborn, running away, or they draw their weapon. But when they're doing these actions, they will not be interrupted by any additional shouting until they're done running to a set location (and will not comply during weapon drawn). Unless you interrupt them via fist, shooting (direct hit or one/multiple warning shot) or pepper spray, they will comply with no issue. But stunning them via flashbang, blast concussion, and tear gas does not affect their compliance RNG tbh.
Plus, only suspect & fake civilians will come check out any shots fired. So you can already determine its no good.
- Because of the AI's behavior, player are being limited to only few tactical options: Rush in and interrupt them before they either run away, kill a civilian, or turn lethal. Or go lethal when being threaten. Its literally these 2 options, there's no 3rd or 4th option.
- Suspect accuracy are either designed to be unforgiving by able to 1 shot you at times, or its just a poorly done method to add difficulty to the game.
- The civilian and suspect sprites are being recycle way too often. At times, it felt very out of place of them showing up in weird places.
- Partner AI is only slightly better than the suspect and civilian, but horrible at being self-conscious of his surrounding: always getting your line of fire, chasing against fleeing people across the room and die, blocking your way, staring at un-cuff people at times, always bad at throwing grenades properly, so on-so forth.
- Doors are annoying in this game, especially in an enclosed space where it literally fu*ks anyone over by a inconvenient door, blocking, or pushing anyone away.
- Breakable walls are good addition, but alot of times its easily missable due to how subtle it was (and almost only few levels has it, literally easily forgettable)
Overall, this game is good and fun, but it can be better. Everything is basically being held back by how the AI is designed. I know Im asking way too high, but seriously, a SWAT 4-like game is not something taken lightly, especially the entire gameplay loop really depends on how well the AI can behave, not the map design or story.

Great team building game. Although there were very rare crashes the game is so good that it doesn't matter.
A unique game, I love it. Nice challenging but fun gameplay!

Map layout is the same but enemy placement and item placement differs from game to game, so no playthrough is the same. Kinda nice and refreshing that it doesn't get repetitive.

I'd say it's definitely worth it on sale, for full price of 20€, not really. You have about 6-7 hours of gameplay to get through the story and to 100% the game. Has more to offer since solo gameplay and co-op gameplay is alot different in how it plays.
Co-op is almost always more coordinated and solo requires you to do more since you control your A.I partner with manual commands.

A good game and it really has a good plot
Good 2 player multiplayer game if on discount below £5 as you need a copy for you and your friend.
Poor Elements include:
1. NPCs too close to doors making game to easy. (Just run and punch everyone including civilians).
2. There should be point deduction for punching civilians encouraging you to be a good cop.
3. Game can crash randomly but not very often so don't be alarmed.
Works on linux, be sure to install 32 bit drivers for your graphics display. thought this game was borked. Using 550 linux drivers, had a hard time with 560 - will tinker soon when i have time
Unfortunately this game is a buggy piece of trash with terrible netcode. A real shame because at it's core it has great potential. Even years after release it still struggles to function smoothly.
It's a nice game, the story is very entertaining, but the best part is playing it with a friend. I did it and we both did the voices of the characters, and although we were not professional actors, I must say that there was no shortage of laughter and absurd moments. I also should add I can now understand the american police, i killed more inoccent people than guilty people in these 7 hours of gameplay... apologies, of this shitty film that's absolute cinema, I wish Scorsese would play this game. I absolutely would recommend it to you, reading this review to play this game with your friend.
I found today that they removed the option for co-op multiplayer, this makes a not so good game even worse and for this reason I can't recommend the game in this state.
Only commited to it because I bought it for me and a friend that was staying home with a portable pc devide thingy... It was fun of course because we made it fun. But its repetitive. only 4 types of enemy/npc in the whole game: civilian, civilian with a gun, bad guy, bad guy but with armor. thats it. You will be dealing with those the entire game. They couldve done so much with the game. So... I think playing solo the game is completely unbarable, playing LOCAL coop its a 5/10...
BUT!
It crashed 6 times for me on my gaming ahh pc, and like 3 or 4 times in my friend's portable PC thingy... So we pushed to the end of the game but we were absolutely tired of this game crashing. This piece of software even crashed right at the end credits.. can you believe that? type shi.
Also: The only thing that makes this game difficult is the insane reaction time you need to deal with the enemies. thats it. if a guy wants to kill you when he see you, he will, period. Later this gets "fixed" because you buy amor and a shield... and at that point the game becomes easy again.
So after the crashes and all its like a 3/10 for local coop, solo it must be a -10/10
I dont recommend buying this full price, I did but I was expecting more from the core gameplay, and obviously the crashes are insane.
THey couldve done so much with the gameplay and the "team tactics"... like you could have a shielded enemy that you need your parter to get his attention from one side so your teammate can take him out from behind... you could have at least some enemies with laser sights pointing so you can take them out how you want knowing someones is there (just for some variety). You could have sections in some levels where you have to hold in a room and a boss or something sends enemies trough some doors and you have to take them out before they overwhelm you (also some of the npc entering the "room" could be civilian), and at the end the boss enters with a shild and a one handed smg... I dont know. there is a lot of fun stuff that could happen but it doesnt. Even the final levels is the same as every level. Nothing changes ever.
You have to have incredibly good reflexes to hit anyone
watched my AI teammate shotgun 3 unarmed black civilians in the chest and then run directly into a tripwire to avoid the media.

I highly recommend this game if you're into that sort of thing and like police novels, noir vibes and stuff like that.
The only concern I have is the teammate AI, which is sometimes really bad, like standing still while someone shoots him to death. But that can be avoided with good strategic commands.
Other than that, it's a really good game and I enjoyed it a lot.

I'll start with a pro tip: Always use police brutality! A single punch will make every character immediately give up, no matter if they are an armed terrorist or someone's grandmother. Punch and cuff!
The game is a great combination of Hotline Miami and the Swat series. Online co-op worked great during action, but often crashed after the mission was complete and the next one was unlocked. So as a client I never lost progress or had issues during the gameplay and only lost pieces of the riveting "story" on crash to desktop. Full price might a bit pricey, but I definitely recommend you get this one on any sale.
Good short game
The AI in this game is so broken and can only do a few very basic things that randomly gets decided when they spot you or you yell at them. They either do nothing, they surrender, they pull their gun and shoot at you after a random delay or they walk to a randomly selected spot and make another decision. Seems simple and effective but there are issues. The enemies have perfect accuracy while you don't and they also seem to posses superhuman reflexes: One time an enemy shot a hostage in front of them and then immediately shot me while I was standing behind them, they just instantly turned around and shot. Also, when enemies decide they walk to a different spot they just often just blindly try to walk past you to a predetermined location behind you to try and shoot you from there, how is that a realistic scenario?
I get that this game tries to be difficult, but with this silly AI behavior it's just too random and not fun for me. Door Kickers is a game that's similar enough but more tactical which I found a lot more enjoyable.
I am trying really hard to like this game, the concept is great, but the experience underdelivers. This game is the highest echelon of artificial difficulty. Visibility on your side is absolutely terrible, yet on the enemy side, you will be spotted and likely instakilled before you even know it.
The Game is good if you play alone, but awesome when you play with friends. The mechanics are very creative and easy to learn. The Best Part of the game probably is the Multiplayer, wich runs really well (my friend is playing on a potato pc but still no bugs). The gameplay is quite repetitive, but still fun to play. Sometimes your gun does not shoot precisely, wich can be annoying but overall 9/10 game
I would recommend the game but the DLC I would not. The story from the first is great and the game in both ways play great. My only gripe is that the DLC dialogue does not even get close to the way the main characters sounded in the first part of the game. It honestly felt AI generated. The characters were saying things they would never had said. good game bad dialogue for DLC
If there's ever a second game, I'll definitely pick it up, but that price better change cause $25 is insane (5-10 is perfect); glad I got it on sale :)
I mainly play on my SteamDeck, and I gotta say the AI can be ridiculously quick at times; some balancing is definitely needed. On PC, I can match the AI's insane reaction time, but I think the developers did that on purpose, as suspects can be unpredictable. I think they should've gone with a different approach, where some suspects shoot on sight, and some actually have a conscience. I wasn't following it, but the story seemed cool. I loved the whole 80's vibe, but I definitely would've paid more attention if they had VAs (voice actors). I guess they were on a budget.
I know I sound like I'm complaining, but I truly enjoyed this game. I wish it was in early access so these issues could be fixed, but I'm pretty sure the devs have moved on, though I can't complain since I snagged this for $3. If there's ever a second instalment with a polished UI, AI, and gameplay, I'll definitely pick it up. I wish my brother or friends would pick this up cause I hate ordering around my AI partner, but bro is clutch sometimes.

really fun coop game! I finished the game with my boyfriend and it's given us some really good laughs and some really bad fights haha. Other than the kind of frustrating online lobby joining issues, it's a really good game :)

i kind of suck at this game. i am still getting used to these kinda games. i kind of like it, it's really fun. i don't like killing people tho but if i need to i sadly will. killing is wicked but if it is the only way to save other peoples lives i will.
The game try to present a cheesy throwback to 80's police dramas while throwing in "realistic" law enforcement scenarios such as practicing ROEs and fire discipline. However the game runs on the gameplay style of hotline miami where enemies act quick, shoots quicker, and have wall hacks that tracks your movement through walls and corners. This mixed with the top down style it is impossible to try and decide whether an enemy has surrendered after they've been shot once as they don't even flinch and would happily tank 3-4 shots will aimbotting your head. There are no consistency in how much damage your weapons do, you can sometimes oneshot enemies while other times they would take 3-4 shots to take down despite the crosshair aiming at the same spot.
Not fun. You need to keep replaying the same missions.
Really, really great game, what a gem! Very hard but never feels unfair (at least not so far). I'd love to see something like this (same controls, view, mechanics) but perhaps for a more atmospheric and horror inspired game. I think it's so cool how you can see where sound is coming from, it's kind of creepy. I'd rate this a 9/10, i only wish it was more/bigger, maybe you could recruit people etc. In all honesty i've been having more fun with this than Ready or Not (which is not a bad game).
