didn't enjoy this season. this one is mostly about politics, not surviving. the characters feel fake, the dialogs feel fake, the motives feel fake (everyone for some reason would instantly love to help the main hero and stuff like that), the Clementine feels fake, the overall feeling of the game is unrealistic.
The controls are a little sketchy, but the story is good.
i love the game it a good add to the walking dead universe and i loved ever second of 8.5/10
cool story multiple choices and as always NICE STORY
The story is fun, but some of the choices do feel like a bit of railroading.
100% - 6.9 hrs
Achievements - 30
Review - 7/10 - Decent game
Difficulty - 1/10
Hardest Achievement - N/A
Despite this game using the same color of dialogue for a few different characters having the walkers flesh not being as bright unlike Season 1 and 2 and only numbers for Achievement icons it’s a whole lot better than the Michonne miniseries which is my least favorite Telltale’s The Walking Dead game and even though this game has some of the problems from the Michonne game I didn’t like it’s just refreshing to be with familiar characters again
Edit: I can hardly see blood sometimes since the color isn't that bright still a lot better than Michonne
It’s better than the disappointing Michonne series, but far worse than Episode 1. Personally, I wanted the complete story of Clementine, so I purchased the entire collection. As for Episode 3… I can only give it a 5.5/10.
On the positive side, it features Clementine, and the game engine itself is interesting. The voice acting is enjoyable, as always, and the fast-paced dialogue adds some engagement, making it a bit more entertaining than merely watching a TV show.
Now, on to the downsides, which are, unfortunately, significant.
1. Flat Main Character:
The protagonist, Javi, is quite underwhelming. While he’s not a bad guy, he lacks depth. The game tries to depict him as a likable, somewhat jealous character who is often at odds with his brother (and perhaps even contributes to his brother’s twisted nature). However, his character feels hollow, despite added traits like a failed baseball career and alleged irresponsibility toward his family. I still can't discern what he truly cares about. Is he motivated by a desire to protect his family? It’s hard to say, as he spends the game fending off accusations from his brother about his supposed irresponsibility while simultaneously becoming romantically involved with his sister-in-law. Does he value friendship? It’s unclear if he forms any meaningful connections. Self-preservation? His many actions often feel self-sacrificing. Ultimately, he comes across as conflicted and uninteresting.
2. Limited Role for Clem and Over-Defined Personality:
Clem is underused and feels too constrained by a fixed personality. In Season 2, Clem often acted in ways that allowed player choices to shape her character. In Season 3, however, she feels like a Jane Jr. This isn't inherently bad, but it’s not the Clem I grew attached to in Season 2, and it can be misleading to players. Despite the hype, player choices still don't seem to matter—neither in Season 2 nor in this game. This is a major step down from Season 1.
2.1 AJ:
I’m sorry, but I don't feel any attachment to AJ. Clem (and I as the player) don’t know AJ's father well, and his mother, Rebecca, was often hostile in Season 2. The game’s assertion that “it’s a miracle” Clem managed to raise a constantly crying baby on her own is hard to buy, especially given the danger that such noise would attract walkers. Moreover, what about Omid and Christa’s child, who seemed much more connected to Clem’s journey? I understand that Clem feels bound to AJ, but as a teenager who doesn’t yet understand her own experiences, it feels odd that she continually refers to herself as his “mother.” Some might argue, “It’s a baby! How can you give up on a baby?” or “Lee didn’t die trying to care for Clem just to have her abandon others.” But that’s different. Lee and Clem shared a mutual bond from the first day of the apocalypse, with Clem often protecting Lee in return. AJ, on the other hand, is just a baby whose cries constantly endanger Clem. This dynamic leads her to make nearly every decision with AJ in mind, and it seems like she loses herself. And throughout this, the player has no real choice. The promotional art for Season 4, showing Clem holding AJ’s hand, suggests that AJ will continue to follow her story, which I find exhausting.
3. David:
David is a difficult character—volatile and arguably more untrustworthy than Kenny. Kate is always eager to hit the road, and I’m not invested in either character. Gabe constantly gets into trouble and even betrayed me over the Conrad incident. The entire cast feels like a burden I’m forced to save, despite my indifference. David, in particular, is violent, eager to rejoin the military, and neglectful of his family for years, only to accuse Javi of irresponsibility. Meanwhile, Javi himself is involved with his sister-in-law, a situation I reluctantly sympathize with.
4. The repetitive storylines are exhausting:
Consider how many times we've seen a supposedly safe, walled-off community destroyed due to a newcomer or accident: the motel, Crawford, and Savannah’s aqueduct in Season 1; the lodge, the hardware store, and Matthew’s windmill Christmas cottage, Wellington at the end in Season 2; and now Prescott and Richmond in this season. Each episode follows a strikingly similar formula: “let me in,” “put down your gun,” and “we refuse entry,” only for the character to gain access regardless. This is then followed by an argument, the walls breaking down, walkers flooding in, and the majority of the population getting killed, leaving the main character to move on.
After all these years, walkers seemingly don’t need sustenance, and their flesh never deteriorates, directly contradicting the law of conservation of energy (though let’s assume this is just part of the fictional world). Ultimately, the real threat isn’t the walkers—it’s other humans. Most of these “safe” communities are held together by tyranny and then collapse for the same reason. I can’t help but suspect that Season 4 will repeat this pattern. It’s all starting to feel tiresome, predictable, and uninspired.
5. Poor QTEs:
Like in Michonne, the excessive Quick Time Events (QTEs) detract from the gameplay and ruin the tension. The constant prompts for rapid key-presses followed by other keys fail to add immersion and only make the game feel clunky.
6. No Rewind Function:
The lack of a rewind option is frustrating. This feature, available since Season 1, allowed players to replay specific moments. Now, to revisit a choice, you must replay the entire chapter. It seems like an attempt to discourage players from realizing how inconsequential their choices really are, perhaps revealing the production team’s lack of commitment.
7. Technical Issues and Lack of Testing:
The game feels unfinished. In my playthrough, every time Javi picked up a baseball bat, mapping errors and graphic glitches filled the screen. Flashing visuals and other bugs are frequent, and videos on YouTube show many similar issues, indicating that the production team didn’t test the game properly. As with Michonne, they didn’t even design achievement icons for Steam—just lazy.
8. Short Gameplay:
With only 8 hours of gameplay across 5 chapters, the game is significantly shorter than Season 1 but still sells at the same price. I wouldn’t have purchased it if I weren’t interested in Clem’s full story. Let Season 4 be the conclusion—it seems inevitable that it will end things, for better or worse.
As we near the end of this series it still does keep on it's grip. A new frontier is an okay game with okay characters but it's starting to show it's cracks.
Previous two didn't really have that many throwaway or out of place characters, where this one does. Jesus being a prime example: satirical and comical as it gets. Maybe it was supposed to be some lighthearted joke but it's really out of tone from the rest of the setting. There's a bunch of characters you end up not really giving a damn as well, hell, that being most of them.
Even though this is not a long game the story still does feel drawn out and parts of them just make you shake your head.
The whole series is often on discount and it is worth it at least up to this point.
Game is somewhat rare in the sense that over 60% of people have completed the story, where many applauded games like Witcher 3 are closer to 20%. But that might just be because it's a trivial game to 100% for achievement junkies. The more you know.
Besides some performance issues, and some choices and arcs that did not feel fleshed out, i overall enjoyed my time with this game. Is it the best in the series? No. Definitely worth picking up, but probably on a discount.
A really good story with three dimensional characters and great dialogue options!
Just about every choice you have to make puts you in some kind of dilemma, and it draws you in and feels really immersive.
You don't play as Clementine in this one - instead, she's an NPC, and you get to see her with fresh eyes from a different point of view. This really worked for me ... also because I really liked the new main character and his story.
It took me just under 7 hours to play through the game. I found it to be a really good length; the story had excellent pacing, didn't overstay its welcome and had no "filler" content.
Opps everywhere
Almost any character in this game is annoying, unsufferable, an asshole or a combination of these. It's like their only purpose is to bust your balls. Luckily the protagonist is likeable, and then there's Clem.
Don't skip it.
Painfully mid, I was super let down since I loved the last two. No problems with Javi or anything, I actually think it's smart to take us out of control of Clementine for a bit, but nothing interesting really happens as a result of that. Really hoping that the final season is better because playing through this one has me a bit worried.
I found the game very slow loading and froze up often, and was unable to finish the game due to these issues(the other three worked fine)
From what I saw, I didn't like the new characters , and remember some a brother having an affair with his brothers wife and
some really boring washing up scenes (in the kitchen before the Walkers)
I very much enjoyed 1,2 and 4, and got this in a bundle.
miss the one if you have the choice, or it , might not run anyway?

(+) Clementines story is explored from another persons perspective which is unique

Additional Notes:
This season is quite the step down compared to the other games both in writing and gameplay-feel. Although it is nice to see part of Clementines story from another persons perspective, it is still disheartening to see so little of her in the game. And when you do interact with her there is little you can learn from her.
Unfortunately this game revolves around some spanish guy who I have difficulty caring for which degraded the overall experience quite a bit.
Overall this game is fine and stays above the recommendation threshold of 5/10 in order to recommend this game.
This game is nothing special it's pretty much just a filler. You don’t continue Clem’s story, and have to play as someone new, it's boring and not worth it from what I've seen. I would say just skip this and play the final season of the walking dead you won't miss anything.
After mild disappointment from Season 2, this is so far the best part of the series (I didn't play Final Season (yet) and 400 days).
Pros:
- The best story so far
- Choices really felt like they matter (in most cases at least)
- Very improved graphic compared to last 2 seasons
- Nice music at the end :)
- Jesus <3
Cons:
- Some dialogue options are badly written - I had to return to last save or repeat the episode few times because Javier said something different or way more than I thought he will. Example (changed to prevent spoilers): "I've got in trouble" ----> "I've got in trouble, BECAUSE (*reveals the exact thing I wanted to hide from others)"
- Few dialogues feels... a bit weird (but really only few)
- In at least two moments the logic goes on the vacation or magic happens (background stuff, nothing that causes the story to go as the writers wanted 'because I say so')
Not as good as the first, some choices seem "fake", for in any case the game goes into some direction, but overall the game is great, good story, heartfelt situations, nice characters.

Are you kidding me, so far the best season. Half way through... that one gun shot man. Like I don''t have enough trauma in my life. Great Season... so far,
you know at first i was expecting it to be bad but nah it was good
"...не будь тем, кто считает, что его проблемы должны решать другие..."
If you see this review please do not buy this game. Play the first 2 only. The games went from realistic horror survival with amazing characters to a shitty unrealistic, boring, trash characters and story
BTW YOU DONT EVEN PLAY AS CLEMENTINE YOU PLAY AS SOME RANDOM AHH SPANISH DUDE
TO SAVE YOU TIME THE GIRL YOU WERE WITH GOT PREGNANT BY LUKE AND OFFED HERSELF LEAVING CLEMENTINE WITH THE BABY ALONE
I love the story telling and I will always ride with Clem!
Story went all over the place, but overall, the character writing was solid. I don't mind playing another survivor. I feel like that's a good thing if you don't want the episodes to feel redundant. Clementine's mentality strangely fits how I played during the whole season 2, so that was a good surprise. The game looks great, but I often encountered flickering or T posing 'muertos'. Also, I've had characters who weren't supposed to be there, appeared in the background during cutscenes. I know that's just the game mixing-up different scenarios, but that's very confusing. I hope for the writing AND the engine to be a little more polished during the 4th game.
Mini-Review :
The best Walking Dead in the series so far (I still haven't played the "Final season") in terms of "choices matter", or at least in the illusion of it.
For the whole game, I really felt I could significantly influence the story, which never really happened in the previous opuses. Of course, most of the time, it wasn't true and it was just fine crafting from the authors, but on some occasions, my choices actually mattered, and as usual, it was on the ending sequence that it had the most impact (which is expected).
Except that, the story is good, the characters and their dynamics interesting, and I was really drawn into the Walking Dead world once again, although everything was very classic now and there was no surprise except for the choice effects.
Overall, the storytelling is very tightly handled, with a good flow and always kept me hooked. On that side, it was noticeably better than Season 2, and more or less on par with the 1st season.
So in short, if you enjoyed the previous seasons, you'll enjoy this one as well, and if you didn't, you likely still won't like this one either.
It took me a bit less than 10 hours to complete the game.
Pros :
- a well-crafted Walking Dead season, for the fans
- Good characters, good story, efficient story-telling
- We see Clementine growing up, and we still take part in her journey, even if she's not the main character
- choices matter, or at least I could believe it most of the time...
Cons :
- ... but actually, the impact of most choices is still limited, you still won't change the story's backbone (which is expected)
- it's really complicated to get the best ending, and somewhat counter-intuitive (ie: you need to be good but not too good), but it's ok, because it feels more real (ie: real-life sucks 😉)
- A couple of weird stuff, although they can be explained by the fact that many people would lose their minds in such a world

IIRC, you still won't see the choices at the end of each episode, but you'll be able to see them from the menus.
This was a game my wife played. I loved my wife very much, and then she died. I will always associate this game, and the music in the menu, with my beloved wife, who is no longer there. Take care of your loved ones and appreciate what you have.
it's just like any other telltale game it's a great game :)
Nice
Great game
Wasted potential.
Good Story
Amazing, highly recommend the whole series!
not as bad as people say it is
i hate kate so much, she's an opp. gabe was irritating but it's bc of his hormones ig !! clem ate y'all up tho lmfaoooo
p.s. justice for mariana bruh
Great game. great story, worth your money.
Another Telltale Games masterpiece.
It's interesting to see this game get less interesting with each season and just goes to show how hard it is to keep a good idea fresh and exciting. No wonder so many multi-season shows fall apart after a while.
It's still good but nothing here comes close to anything in the first season, story-wise at least.
making Clementine not the main character made me think not to play the season but i say to myself i will just try one episode after i play episode 1 it was great and good but there is one thing making me hate the season 3 its kenny : kenny die in cheap way like he was noting 💀 he was in season 1 fighting like 100 walkers and survived and in season 2 he kill Carver AKA : Bill and he in season 2 episode 4 he sneak into hundreds of walkers and survived and kill Arvo friends with jane he do alot of things in season 2 and he was lee friend but in season 3 make him die in car crash 💀 after i see kenny die this way i ALT+F4 the game and i get angry why he dead like that if you want keeny to die ok make him die like a hero or anything but not in a car crash 💀 by the way i like the characters of the season and the new mechanics and thats it ( sorry for bad english )
great
Ass is my choice of word for the game.
2 seasons following a character that you more or less get fond of and then they make it a side char with too little screentime and the characters you are supposed to cheer on get either killed, killed or killed.
Bland characters that are forgettable.
Had no feelings behind anything and felt more similar to "walking dead 400 days" than another season.
Personally didn't play till end due to boredom but watched playthrough.
Wrong choices with no redemption.
Bankruptcy didn't come as a surprise.
Most people don't like because the change of the protagonist, but this game is maybe a little bit worser than last 2,but you just need to get used to it. I personally enjoyed every moment from episode 3-5.
The Walking Dead: A New Frontier – A Compelling New Chapter in the Zombie Saga

A Fresh Perspective on Survival and Family
The Walking Dead: A New Frontier marks a significant evolution in the beloved franchise, introducing players to a new protagonist while maintaining the emotional core that has defined the series. Set several years after the events of Season Two, this installment follows Javier "Javi" Garcia, a former baseball player navigating the treacherous landscape of a world overrun by walkers. As players immerse themselves in Javi’s journey, they witness the struggle for survival amidst a fractured family dynamic and the complex relationships that arise from the ongoing chaos.

Javier Garcia – A Complex Protagonist
What distinguishes A New Frontier is its exploration of family ties and redemption through the eyes of Javi. As a man grappling with guilt over his past, Javi's character arc is both relatable and compelling. His desire to protect his loved ones—particularly his niece, Kate, and his younger sister, Mariana—fuels the narrative, providing a strong emotional foundation. The game delves into the themes of loyalty, forgiveness, and the moral ambiguity of survival, forcing players to confront their values in the face of desperate situations.

Returning Faces and New Dynamics
A New Frontier also reintroduces fan-favorite characters from previous seasons, most notably Clementine, who has evolved into a resourceful and determined young woman. The dynamic between Javi and Clementine is one of the highlights of the season, as players navigate the complexities of trust and leadership in a world where every choice has dire consequences. The tension between Javi’s desire to protect his family and Clementine’s fierce independence creates a rich narrative interplay, reminding players of the lasting impacts of their decisions from earlier seasons.

The Weight of Choices and Consequences
Just like its predecessors, A New Frontier emphasizes the significance of player choices. Every decision you make can lead to unexpected outcomes, shaping not only the narrative but also the relationships between characters. The game expertly balances moments of intense action with quieter, character-driven scenes, allowing players to witness the emotional fallout of their choices. This sense of agency makes the story deeply personal, as players feel the weight of their decisions echo throughout the game.

Intense Survival and Conflict
The game introduces new factions and environments, further enriching the narrative. The New Frontier group presents a unique challenge, representing both the best and worst of humanity. Players must navigate the dangers of this new community while facing the ever-present threat of walkers. The tension is palpable as Javi and his group confront the harsh realities of survival, forcing players to make choices that test their moral compass.

Atmosphere and Presentation
A New Frontier continues to utilize the striking art style that has become synonymous with the series. The visuals effectively convey the desolation of the world, from the urban landscapes to the quiet moments in nature. Coupled with a haunting score and stellar voice acting, the game creates an immersive atmosphere that enhances the emotional stakes. The character animations and expressions bring the story to life, allowing players to feel the intensity of each moment.

Conclusion
The Walking Dead: A New Frontier is a compelling addition to the franchise that successfully blends new characters with familiar faces, creating a rich tapestry of relationships and choices. With its focus on family, loyalty, and the moral complexities of survival, the narrative remains engaging and impactful. As players guide Javi through a world fraught with danger and uncertainty, they will find themselves invested in the outcomes of their decisions and the fates of the characters they have grown to love. For fans of narrative-driven games, A New Frontier is a must-play chapter that deepens the exploration of what it means to be human in a world gone mad.
It’s definitely my least favorite Telltale The Walking Dead game so far, and I’ll explain why. But first, let’s start with what I liked:
- The game offers a nice variety of characters, each unique and complex in their own way. I also really love the character designs.
- The flashbacks were fantastic! They added much-needed depth to the storyline, which would have felt flat without them.
- The overall length of the game felt just right for the 14.74 euros I spent. Not too long to become boring, but not so short that it felt unfinished.
What I Didn’t Like:
- The game became buggy in Episode 4, with constant screen glitches that forced me to restart the entire game. It was especially annoying when the game didn’t save beforehand.
- Some objects and animations started glitching too, like Javier’s baseball bat or Clementine’s eyelashes, which took me out of the experience.
- I wasn’t a fan of the shaky camera movements. Sometimes they didn’t make sense, even as an artistic choice, and some characters were way too blurred in certain scenes.
- This might be nitpicky, but some of the dialogue between characters felt bland at times. Though, to be fair, it often redeemed itself.
Would I Recommend It?
Yes and no. For me, it was still worth playing because I absolutely adore Telltale’s The Walking Dead franchise. However, if you’re not a die-hard fan, you could probably skip this one without missing much.
WOOOOOO
Amazing story and characters love the new style as well . the game just get`s better every time and also a sadness and broken heart next level but a really good game
Idk, I played it because of Clementine. It follows the same character tropes and it's boring.
I like this game
I disliked that all the characters from the previous seasons except Clementine and AJ are dumped, and Clementine walks around somewhere on the side as a secondary, and sometimes even as a background character. But i still recommend this game at least to reach the final season
é um jogo bom não gostei tanto dos graficos prefiro os antigos, a historia não é tão ruim tambem mas n é tao boa um otimo jogo
Still going strong with the story , it was different from the previous seasons sure but Javi grows on you too . Main issue I had with this game is the lack of any meaningfull decision to impact season four which makes this whole game neglegible. Still highly advise to play just to have the experience.
