wow. hoooooooly cow, this was a ride lemme tell you!!!! so SO SO many great characters in this game, like javi, breakkkkkk me off a piece of THAT kitkat bar amirriiiiteeeeeeeeeeeee? tripp was rhett and i was link, i wish i could've done him over the sink. good. mythical. morning. kate was just a cover for me and tripppppp, aaaaaaaaanddd jesus joins in on the fun sometimes. i meannnn, did you see the way jesus bit his lip at me??? nothing holy about that. but seriously though, this game was fire, buy it now now now!!!!
The Walking Dead: A New Frontier is another solid entry in Telltale’s series. It brings back everything you’d expect: emotional storytelling, tough choices, and characters you can’t help but get invested in. This time, the focus shifts to a new protagonist, Javier, while still keeping Clementine in the mix. It’s a nice balance between introducing new faces and building on the story of someone we’ve grown to care about.
The choices feel as heavy as ever, and some of them really make you stop and think. The branching paths and evolving relationships make the story feel personal, which is what these games do best. It also looks better than earlier seasons, with improved visuals and more cinematic moments.
There’s plenty of tension in the action scenes, but the real focus is still on the narrative. My only complaint is that the season feels shorter and maybe a bit simplified compared to the earlier ones, and while the new characters are great, they don’t quite replace the connection I had with Lee and young Clem.
If you’re into story-driven games or loved the previous seasons, this one is definitely worth playing. It might not be perfect, but it’s still a gripping experience that’ll keep you hooked until the end.
Its not worse than Michonne, Ill give it that and has some pulp fiction like tension but is all style and no substance. Clem not being the main character is heresy and the new characters are not fleshed out in the slightest besides the complicated sibling relationship between the brothers. Gabe is a very punchable kid.
Engine is nicer though, smoother walking and action as well more expressive and detailed models. Writing is very on the nose. Only played this for the masterpiece that was season 1 and the good sequel of season 2.
THe puzzle sections are pointless and too easy as well.
TWD: A New Frontier was a gamechanger for the series in nearly every way (negatively and positively). The graphics had a huge overhaul that still mostly felt like Telltale's iconic style, but definitely was modernized to be much more visually advanced than the previous games in the series. I personally really enjoyed the story of Javi, but unfortunately it's really hard to not entirely focus on Clementine's story. She plays a big role in A New Frontier, but something always felt quite lacking to me. I love the characters that we're introduced to, and this game does have very emotional moments that make up for some if its downfalls.. but after playing it I don't feel like it stuck with me nearly as much as the other games in the series.
6.6/10
Definitely recommend playing in order to continue onto Season 4, however this was by far my least favorite up to now. The characters were relatively unlikable this season. But it moved Clems story further so its all good. Just definitely not my favorite
all attempts to anti-romance kate ends up with broken face anyway.
clem tried to carry through the season solo but it wasn't enough.
love the new character so far, gives new energy
The Walking Dead A New Frontier is a great addition to the series, offering a new perspective focusing on Javier Garcia and his fight to protect his family. The storytelling and character development was still massive, but the game strikes a slightly less sadness than the first two seasons. this game gives it a more hopeful tone despite the heavy themes. However, the visuals could have been better, as the character models and environments feel underwhelming and rushed at most times. You could tell that most of it is just PNG's I know that's what they had to do but they could've made it better. It isn't perfect, A New Frontier is a must play for fans of the series, and I’d rate it a 10/10.
The Worst Season of them all. Gameplay is the same, and the Story is kind of messy. I would say the graphics are obviously better. Making Realistic type of models with Cel-Shading that also includes a Shiny like effect does not make it look good, Season 4 does the exact same thing but without a shiny effect and somehow executes it better.
(You also don't play as Clementine, which I did not like.)
It's pretty meh, some parts are good, others not. You can skip if you're playing through TWD Telltale series, it doesn't really add anything substantial to Clementine's story.
This is easily the weakest entry, though I haven't played the final season yet. It comes with all the most glaring issues of the dialogue options in previous entries. It would be forgivable if the last episode wasn't the worst. So many characters are so unlikable or go from likable to recklessly irrational so quickly that a lot of the dialogue options are not what I would call "difficult" choices. There are a few gut wrenching moments, but they're far outweighed by frustrating moments with irrational people. The one positive is I feel like this is the first time I haven't had a bleakly dark ending in a telltale game. You can tell they wanted this to spin off into another series. They were smart to keep Clem involved in the story, because otherwise people would not have stuck around for this one.
I can't recommend playing this unless you are very invested in TWD tell tale games and Clementine as a character.
Dear beloved, we are here gathered to learn if this game is worth it.
As THE man would deem it, it is worthy of your coin and it transcends all expectations.
The story is not directly involved with the TWD story-line BUT it is in the same universe and nods (by the existence of J man in the game) at the show occurring during the same time period.
The gameplay is perfect (yet a bit clunky when you don't read the gameplay tips), point and click with some points of quick time events that are not so quick to my fellow slow mouse users.
Long live Clementine.
Very underrated game for the amount of hate it got.
Definitely has some lazy writing (whole Tripp and Ava situation where whichever one you save they both die anyway... but that is literally in all previous TWD games.
I will say though, I believe they put more effort into the story and the visuals of this one then previous ones, such as all the things that could happen to Conrad etc.
I do believe the first 2 games were very nice, but this one imo kinda dies away with some of the writing in E4.
E5 (final episode) I believe had good variety of endings, and I loved the flashbacks, what I did not like was how Clem's decision making on who she goes with at the end relies on a very small and ineffective seeming choices. (There is a whole decision tree about this but I wont get into it).
Overall, I believe the game could have been a 10/10 if it didnt have the usual TellTale laziness with the writing.
Either way its definetly not a 4/10 or worse as some make it to be. I'd give it a solid 7.9/10 with huge upside potential if Telltale showed it a little more love.
Definetly play it though :)))
once playing these walking dead game they so well put together and every single one has not failed to amaze me and has just gotten better and better.
A New Frontier brings a lot to the table, and thankfully, it’s not just more undead groaning. This installment dives into new characters and a fresh storyline while still keeping the emotional gut punches that the series is known for. Javier is a great protagonist, and watching his family drama unfold against a backdrop of chaos feels like binging a particularly intense season of a TV show.
But let’s be honest—Clementine steals the show. Watching her grow from the wide-eyed kid we met in Season 1 to the hardened survivor she is now is nothing short of amazing. She’s the perfect mix of badass and heart, and every decision she makes feels like a masterclass in how to survive a zombie apocalypse while keeping your humanity intact (well, mostly). You’ll root for her, cry for her, and probably apologize to her every time one of your choices messes up her plans.
The graphics are polished, the choices feel meaningful (even if the game loves to remind you that someone will remember EVERYTHING), and the action sequences are sharper than a machete to a walker’s skull. While I missed the OG cast at first, the new characters grew on me faster than a zombie infection.
Sure, some choices felt more like 'illusion of choice,' and a few plot twists are easy to spot, but honestly? I was too busy crying over yet another heartbreaking death or Clementine’s latest moment of growth to care. If you love The Walking Dead series or just enjoy emotionally devastating games, A New Frontier is a solid addition to the saga. Just keep tissues nearby.
Definitely the worst one of all the walking dead games, boring new characters, ridiculous drama, conflict between MC and his brother is just a familiar idea. Besides,I bought The walking dead because I WANT TO PLAY AS CLEMENTINE,not a random dude!!!
this game is very good tho i js wanna play as clem im a very simple person and javi isnt THAT bad I really really hate Kate tho
This game has some great story telling but i can tell it was made in a hurry. They should have put more time and effort into it. But still it's a great game
7/10
- The chains snapped.
- For a moment, I stared at my wrists, red and marked with the echoes of captivity, now free. I felt the blood rush through them, warm and alive, as if my body were waking up for the first time.
- Slowly, I raised my arms high above my head, the broken chains falling to the ground in a hollow clatter. The sun caught the metal, its glow refracting like liquid fire. I stood tall, my silhouette cutting against the vivid sky, my hands reaching upward as though I could touch the heavens themselves.
- The warmth of the sun bathed me, its final rays soft against my skin, and for the first time in as long as I could remember, I breathed deeply.
- Freedom, I finally did not cry to the ending of a 'The Walking Dead' game.
100/10 rating for this game.
Feels stretched, especially in Episode 3 and 4. Also some unreasonable behavior of characters in certain situations. It was somewhat entertaining though. Barely a recommendation. Not worth a lot of your money though so wait for a good offer.
7.5/10
Probably the worst main line tell tale walking dead game, but still good over all
Rich and impressive story. I love this series and its comic books style!!
his game keeps up the emotional storytelling and great characters the series is known for. it’s not as strong as the other seasons, but the story’s solid, the choices are engaging, and the comic-book visuals really add to the vibe. yeah, some parts feel rushed and a few characters could’ve gotten more focus, but it’s still a really good addition and worth playing if you’re a fan.
Overall enjoyed the game. Same gameplay as other Telltale games - basically interactive movie. 7/10
- I enjoyed the new characters, solid personalities being explored.
- I enjoyed the overall story of the game.
- I enjoyed the smaller stories unfolding each episode.
- I disliked certain side characters' decision making, a few times they felt forced for the plot. Ex: Running into gun fire across the open.
- A few times I made a choice based on the short description of the choice, and the outcome was not what I was expecting. Spoiler: I want to tell him off for being an asshole, not tell him off by saying his wife wants to leave him?!? What the actual fuck
[*]Sometimes there was clear decisions / things to say that just were not options to do so. Spoiler: I want to convenience the crowd that X is a bad person to gain support, but I don't get the chance to bring up the destroyed neighbouring communities?
Javi is a great protagonist, I really enjoyed his character. This game has some pretty good choices too. It's a nice story and a fun game.
amazing gameplay and storyline. love to see clem continue to grow. cant wait for season 4!
👍 𝘽𝙪𝙚𝙣 𝙟𝙪𝙚𝙜𝙤... (𝙨𝙞 𝙟𝙪𝙜𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙚 𝙡𝙤𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙨 2) - 【6/10】
I mean, it's not bad. It's just not as great as the other games. I thought Joan made for a terrific antagonist, I thought it had good story beats, I thought the dynamic between Javi and David was really interesting. I didn't like Tripp very much, he didn't seem bad but his character was underdeveloped, I think the same goes for the rest of the characters, tbh. It's the same length as the other games but you just don't feel as connected to the characters or story.
It's really just an awkward middle point in the series, I feel like
It honestly wasn't as bad as people made it out to be. I went in to the game expecting absolute crap but it had a lot of moments that I genuinely enjoyed.
Can't really point out a generally bad thing except for Clementine's bad haircut towards the end.
And Gabe. Yeah.
Otherwise 7/10
Give it a shot, don't go by other peoples opinions
Season 3 is the one where it hits the lowest out of the bunch. I didn't like some of the characters nor cared about them at all. The story was okay-ish. Building up to how Clementine acts in Season 4 was a neat thing to see as well.
I know Telltale was going through a bad point while they were making this and it shows too, but I wish they would've stopped and think more on the season rather than making something that feels rushed.
I loved the character Javi, it was a fresh take and a new perspective. I was going fresh and no knowledge of how the third season will be. I though I would play Clementine for s2, s3, and s4 but I though wrong for this season. I loved it. I love seeing Clementine and her decisions because I saw her grow from that person. What a season. I'm only in Episode 3 and I'm loving it. I don't know what to do with Kate.
omg...these graphics are such an improvement from the previous games. the dialogue is so amazing and i love how many different endings you can get, whether thats at the very end or at the end of each episode. this game is truly filled with so much story and emotion. 10/10 and i cant wait to play the next one!!
I enjoyed the game as it shows improvement in gameplay from the previous games. I found it interesting to see another character, viewing another perspective other than clemintine's POV. Javier's story was intriguing to me as well.
Definetly the weakest out of all four games. Which doesn't mean that it's bad, far from it. Javi's a great protagonist and Clem is amazing as always, but i do think that they could've done way more with her. The episodes do also feel a bit on the shorter side. Apart from that, it's still a good game.
Just no, this isn’t really a game with a good story. It was made specifically to build Clementine’s personality and set up a nice place for her probable return in the next story. But the game itself is pathetic. I don’t like how they made Clementine a secondary character here. I’m not 100% fluent in English, but even with subtitles, I got confused—some things were translated wrong, and some choices gave a certain impression but led to a distorted and different outcome. I don’t think it’s worth paying for unless you’re a die-hard Telltale fan.
The Walking Dead: A New Frontier (TWDNF) - I'll be honest, I was biased towards this game from the very beginning. I didn't like the visuals or the characters, nothing, and I put it off for a long time. After finding the strength and patience to pass this game I started to get into the story, and at first I even liked it, I wouldn't call it good, but I liked it. But in the final episode the plot rolled away as much as possible. The characters, their actions, dialogues and thoughts are horrible! The only thing I liked was the plot line of the brothers, Javier and David, but nothing more. Overall, the game was average, and many times worse than the first two instalments
I'm not looking for hate or complaints, but with all due respect, this season is garbage, it's a complete mess, telltale games made a very bad decision with this season, it's very poorly used. I'm talking about killing characters without meaning, the zombie animations are repeated, the zombie skins are all the same. Not even with the passing of the years did they ever create more zombies, this error is more noticeable in S1 and S2, to whom I lie, clearly, they are always the same zombies in each damn season, it is noticeable considerably how the quality of the seasons that they like the most decreases. I can To say it was the same screw-up with the final season with what happened with telltale games since episode 2 of the final season you can see how the quality of the episodes drops sharply with the fact that there are only 4 episodes it is already disgusting, I'm not looking bard nor hate I'm just giving my opinion but I think many people will be upset with my review so cry first.
Ta seria to must-have dla fanów uniwersum.
not the best season of the 3 i played so far and joan's old ass pissed me off, but still good as expected from a Telltale game
didn't enjoy this season. this one is mostly about politics, not surviving. the characters feel fake, the dialogs feel fake, the motives feel fake (everyone for some reason would instantly love to help the main hero and stuff like that), the Clementine feels fake, the overall feeling of the game is unrealistic.
The controls are a little sketchy, but the story is good.
i love the game it a good add to the walking dead universe and i loved ever second of 8.5/10
cool story multiple choices and as always NICE STORY
The story is fun, but some of the choices do feel like a bit of railroading.
100% - 6.9 hrs
Achievements - 30
Review - 7/10 - Decent game
Difficulty - 1/10
Hardest Achievement - N/A
Despite this game using the same color of dialogue for a few different characters having the walkers flesh not being as bright unlike Season 1 and 2 and only numbers for Achievement icons it’s a whole lot better than the Michonne miniseries which is my least favorite Telltale’s The Walking Dead game and even though this game has some of the problems from the Michonne game I didn’t like it’s just refreshing to be with familiar characters again
Edit: I can hardly see blood sometimes since the color isn't that bright still a lot better than Michonne
It’s better than the disappointing Michonne series, but far worse than Episode 1. Personally, I wanted the complete story of Clementine, so I purchased the entire collection. As for Episode 3… I can only give it a 5.5/10.
On the positive side, it features Clementine, and the game engine itself is interesting. The voice acting is enjoyable, as always, and the fast-paced dialogue adds some engagement, making it a bit more entertaining than merely watching a TV show.
Now, on to the downsides, which are, unfortunately, significant.
1. Flat Main Character:
The protagonist, Javi, is quite underwhelming. While he’s not a bad guy, he lacks depth. The game tries to depict him as a likable, somewhat jealous character who is often at odds with his brother (and perhaps even contributes to his brother’s twisted nature). However, his character feels hollow, despite added traits like a failed baseball career and alleged irresponsibility toward his family. I still can't discern what he truly cares about. Is he motivated by a desire to protect his family? It’s hard to say, as he spends the game fending off accusations from his brother about his supposed irresponsibility while simultaneously becoming romantically involved with his sister-in-law. Does he value friendship? It’s unclear if he forms any meaningful connections. Self-preservation? His many actions often feel self-sacrificing. Ultimately, he comes across as conflicted and uninteresting.
2. Limited Role for Clem and Over-Defined Personality:
Clem is underused and feels too constrained by a fixed personality. In Season 2, Clem often acted in ways that allowed player choices to shape her character. In Season 3, however, she feels like a Jane Jr. This isn't inherently bad, but it’s not the Clem I grew attached to in Season 2, and it can be misleading to players. Despite the hype, player choices still don't seem to matter—neither in Season 2 nor in this game. This is a major step down from Season 1.
2.1 AJ:
I’m sorry, but I don't feel any attachment to AJ. Clem (and I as the player) don’t know AJ's father well, and his mother, Rebecca, was often hostile in Season 2. The game’s assertion that “it’s a miracle” Clem managed to raise a constantly crying baby on her own is hard to buy, especially given the danger that such noise would attract walkers. Moreover, what about Omid and Christa’s child, who seemed much more connected to Clem’s journey? I understand that Clem feels bound to AJ, but as a teenager who doesn’t yet understand her own experiences, it feels odd that she continually refers to herself as his “mother.” Some might argue, “It’s a baby! How can you give up on a baby?” or “Lee didn’t die trying to care for Clem just to have her abandon others.” But that’s different. Lee and Clem shared a mutual bond from the first day of the apocalypse, with Clem often protecting Lee in return. AJ, on the other hand, is just a baby whose cries constantly endanger Clem. This dynamic leads her to make nearly every decision with AJ in mind, and it seems like she loses herself. And throughout this, the player has no real choice. The promotional art for Season 4, showing Clem holding AJ’s hand, suggests that AJ will continue to follow her story, which I find exhausting.
3. David:
David is a difficult character—volatile and arguably more untrustworthy than Kenny. Kate is always eager to hit the road, and I’m not invested in either character. Gabe constantly gets into trouble and even betrayed me over the Conrad incident. The entire cast feels like a burden I’m forced to save, despite my indifference. David, in particular, is violent, eager to rejoin the military, and neglectful of his family for years, only to accuse Javi of irresponsibility. Meanwhile, Javi himself is involved with his sister-in-law, a situation I reluctantly sympathize with.
4. The repetitive storylines are exhausting:
Consider how many times we've seen a supposedly safe, walled-off community destroyed due to a newcomer or accident: the motel, Crawford, and Savannah’s aqueduct in Season 1; the lodge, the hardware store, and Matthew’s windmill Christmas cottage, Wellington at the end in Season 2; and now Prescott and Richmond in this season. Each episode follows a strikingly similar formula: “let me in,” “put down your gun,” and “we refuse entry,” only for the character to gain access regardless. This is then followed by an argument, the walls breaking down, walkers flooding in, and the majority of the population getting killed, leaving the main character to move on.
After all these years, walkers seemingly don’t need sustenance, and their flesh never deteriorates, directly contradicting the law of conservation of energy (though let’s assume this is just part of the fictional world). Ultimately, the real threat isn’t the walkers—it’s other humans. Most of these “safe” communities are held together by tyranny and then collapse for the same reason. I can’t help but suspect that Season 4 will repeat this pattern. It’s all starting to feel tiresome, predictable, and uninspired.
5. Poor QTEs:
Like in Michonne, the excessive Quick Time Events (QTEs) detract from the gameplay and ruin the tension. The constant prompts for rapid key-presses followed by other keys fail to add immersion and only make the game feel clunky.
6. No Rewind Function:
The lack of a rewind option is frustrating. This feature, available since Season 1, allowed players to replay specific moments. Now, to revisit a choice, you must replay the entire chapter. It seems like an attempt to discourage players from realizing how inconsequential their choices really are, perhaps revealing the production team’s lack of commitment.
7. Technical Issues and Lack of Testing:
The game feels unfinished. In my playthrough, every time Javi picked up a baseball bat, mapping errors and graphic glitches filled the screen. Flashing visuals and other bugs are frequent, and videos on YouTube show many similar issues, indicating that the production team didn’t test the game properly. As with Michonne, they didn’t even design achievement icons for Steam—just lazy.
8. Short Gameplay:
With only 8 hours of gameplay across 5 chapters, the game is significantly shorter than Season 1 but still sells at the same price. I wouldn’t have purchased it if I weren’t interested in Clem’s full story. Let Season 4 be the conclusion—it seems inevitable that it will end things, for better or worse.
As we near the end of this series it still does keep on it's grip. A new frontier is an okay game with okay characters but it's starting to show it's cracks.
Previous two didn't really have that many throwaway or out of place characters, where this one does. Jesus being a prime example: satirical and comical as it gets. Maybe it was supposed to be some lighthearted joke but it's really out of tone from the rest of the setting. There's a bunch of characters you end up not really giving a damn as well, hell, that being most of them.
Even though this is not a long game the story still does feel drawn out and parts of them just make you shake your head.
The whole series is often on discount and it is worth it at least up to this point.
Game is somewhat rare in the sense that over 60% of people have completed the story, where many applauded games like Witcher 3 are closer to 20%. But that might just be because it's a trivial game to 100% for achievement junkies. The more you know.
Besides some performance issues, and some choices and arcs that did not feel fleshed out, i overall enjoyed my time with this game. Is it the best in the series? No. Definitely worth picking up, but probably on a discount.
