de Blob is a 3D platformer where players maneuver their hero, de Blob. Equal parts amorphous blob of paint, struggling artist, revolutionary and juvenile delinquent, de Blob's goal is to replace the drab, lifeless gray coloring that the I.N.K.T. Corporation has imposed on Chroma City and its inhabitants, the Raydians, with a range of vibrant life-giving colors, all the while avoiding and battling the gray-clad forces of the Inkies.
Players must acquire paint and hurl de Blob at the buildings, walls, statues, roads and skies above Chroma City. As de Blob bounces around, adding color wherever he lands, his supply of paint is depleted and he begins to dry out. As this happens players must collect more paint and rehydrate in pools and in front of hydrants scattered across the city. As the game starts access is limited to the colors red, blue and yellow, but these can be blended to create a number of other colors. Being able to create and apply these colors becomes important as Chroma City and its inhabitants come to life, and de Blob makes contact with a range of other characters known as the 'Color Revolutionaries' and receives an increasing amount of missions that charge him with splattering color all over town. Success at these mission gains the player point which drives the game forward, eventually leading to a direct assault on Comrade Black's I.N.K.T. fortress guarded by elite Inky soldiers and massive ink turrets.

Plenty of Play Modes
de Blob features both a deep story-driven singleplayer mode where players get to dig into the Raydian's struggle against all-powerful I.N.K.T. Corporation, as well as a diverse range of multiplayer options. These multiplayer campaigns support up to four players, come with street and sewer maps and include four player split-screen functionality.Just a few of the multiplayer campaigns include:
- Paint Match - Paint as many buildings as possible and steal points from opponents by re-painting the buildings that they've already covered.
- Blob on the Run - A variation of 'Capture the Flag,' in this mode only one blob can paint and is pursued by opponents who attempt to slam him into submission and gain the ability to paint and accumulate points themselves.
- Blob Race - In this mode buildings can only be painted once and are indicated by in-game arrow. With time limited it's a race not only to paint the town but also to keep opponents from doing the same.

8/10 Short little adventure with charming characters helping to re-painting the town to it's glory days!
I've known about this game since this launched alongside the marketing for the Nintendo Wii. Always was interested in trying this out, though nowadays getting a copy of this game for the Wii isn't commonly easy anymore. Found out they ported it to Steam, so I got it here!
While this game isn't anything to go super crazy about buying immediately, especially since this was designed for the Wii, the game revolves around you bringing back color to a city that's become terrorized by the INKT Patrol by painting the town and restoring buildings to their former glory. This does feel like a game you'd very easily become bored playing, especially since each world seems to be the same common objectives as the last one. With the final one being slightly different.
The only downside with this game falls heavily on controls. I'm not sure if this is because I played off a controller, and not off a Keyboard/Mouse or Wiimote controls, but controlling de Blob throughout the game felt very limited. In better context, you'll find yourself sticking to things more often instead of being able to climb up structures to paint objects on top of buildings. And it gets worse when there are missions where you have to paint particular objects/buildings of a certain color in a short amount of time without messing up. These missions can be skipped, however this becomes the objective later on in the game. Though, the fact this game gives you a lot of lifes, helps eliminate the issue of having to restart the whole world again.
If you're more-so a hardcore player, you'll probably have a better time playing this game. Casual players may struggle with particular puzzles that sometimes have no context as to how to solve them. But, with the game giving players so many lives to collect throughout each level, you'll find yourself not raging as much as other games would.
A good game, but the controls and camera are absolutely ruined. Everything else is great—the concept, the visuals (which still hold up thanks to the stylized art), and even some fresh ideas brought into the new maps.
But there are two major downsides: first, the gigantic maps/levels. I honestly don’t understand why each map needs to take over an hour to complete. I’m the kind of person who likes getting all the achievements, but this just feels like overkill. I’d much prefer more levels that are half the size.
Second, the incredibly frustrating behavior of the damn Blob. It often jumps in the wrong direction, and the camera just spins all over the place when it’s not supposed to. Because of this, I can’t recommend the game.
P.S. Taking a break before coming back to finish it—I need some time to recharge…
This game is just flat out awesome and puts me in such a good mood playing it. The upbeat music, vibrant environments and amazing frutiger metro aesthetics please me so much.
You can say that the mini missions in each of the levels can get a little repetitive, but the levels are so well designed and laid out to where I didn't realize the repetition of the mini missions until reading other's reviews on the game.
Always wanted to play this game as a kid, as 8 remember seeing loads of ads in Nintendo Power for it growing up. So glad I got to play it now and on a pretty good PC port at 4K too.

A Wii classic that I never got to play. A flawed masterpiece. I miss the days of 3D mascot platformers. It's a shame they got left behind in 7th gen.. (except with Nintendo)
de Blob performed really well on the SD OLED, giving me over 7h of playtime at 60hz! Worked just fine with almost no issues right outa the box on Proton 9.0-4! Just disable Anti Aliasing and the game will look clear and crisp!
While addictively fun and really easy to complete, it also has its problems, both technically and mechanically..

The port:
-The UI is way too small for this game at any resolution. I don't think it was even this small on the Wii
-Moving Blob and pushing the camera stick around results in very jittery camera movement when over 60fps
-The render distance/LoD is way too short
-The cutscenes and menu backgrounds were very low resolution
-Vsync is built in and can't be disabled
-I also got a solid black screen when skipping a tutorial too fast. I had to force close the game
-There were a few occasions where I tried to target something and I instead just got launcnhed across the map or into orbit lol
Gameplay:
-Navigating the story levels was a hassle on DPAD
-Camera sucks. It messed me up so many times. Very limited vertical range. The first-person camera controls are too slow at highest setting
-The physics are very 'floaty' and sometimes feel VERY stiff. It often made it very difficult to platform
-The wall latching mechanic is neat, but it only ended up getting in the way the overwhelming majority of the time. Getting stuck on corners, flying off them when trying to get off, or getting semi-softlocked onto the corner of a moving object (car, crate) and completely unable to move or get off
-Some buildings are at the 'perfect' height where you jump onto them, but can only latch onto the edge. It's extremely frustrating and dissatisfying
-The cutscenes were always interrupting
-The targeting system was the biggest nuisance. Some targets have priorities over others and it's hecked me up so many times. Heck, just trying to jump on an ink bot, only to fly backwards and hit something else OFF SCREEN
-The targeting controls were really dumb. Instead of holding left trigger and spamming A to slam (like you can in de Blob 2), you had to mash left trigger + A simultaneously, repeatedly. I'm glad they fixed that in de Blob 2
Other than that, best $3.46 I ever spent! I'm going to complete de Blob 2 next!

Although it would have been nice if the game let you flick upwards to jump, if you had a compatible controller. (although I suspect many players will favour the non-motion controls)

I have a Hate-love relationship with this game.
The controls make me wanna break my controller.
The camera sucks monkey bawls.
The locations of some objectives aren't pointed out, which sometimes makes EASY objectives incredibly frustrating simply because you're given zero indication of where to go. And the camera, sucking as bad as it does, often restrains your view so much that you can't see well enough to see where you need to go.
All that aside...I keep coming back to it.
I originally owned it on the WII, but then donated my Wii before I had a chance to beat it.
I recently bought it from Steam, having such fond memories of enjoying the gameplay, the characters, the general silly/fun tone of the game...only to remember how insanely maddening it can be to actually "play" the game, which sometimes feels more like a fight against the camera/controls.
I can only hope the sequel improved these problems...because I already bought it.

I know i said its an 8/10 in my last review 2 weeks ago i was way too harsh
i remember playing this game as a kid and loved it then, now after almost turning 20 i love it all the same and now have the skills to actually get all the medals and such, controls and camera which can be very annoying at times but it is still very playable. i still to this day haven't seen another game which can satisfy the same itch this game does, of course other than it's sequel which i am excited to dive back into after i get all the achievements.
So glad this is on PC, overall it's a solid port with a few minor drawbacks.

Loved this game when it originally came out on the Wii and wanted to revisit it. Controls better than a Wii Remote, too. Unfortunately I was never able to get past the first level because the game would always crash after playing for about 5 minutes or sometimes even less, making me have to start the game from the very beginning multiple times before I inevitably gave up because of how broken it was. Unplugging the controller and playing with keyboard and mouse made no difference and it would just crash at random. A huge pity really because I remember the game being very fun.
Until this gets patched, I can't say I recommend it on PC.

Shit game
As father of 2 kids, I spend hours and days to get "Der Blob" (https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=12424) running on our Linux computers many years ago. I remember it as it was yesterday: I debugged some erros down to problematic case sensitivity in file references in some Ogre scripts of the game. And finally I got it to work on an early Ubuntu release - and the kids had so much fun!
In remembrance of this time I spend the few bucks (during sale) to buy the "de Blob" which lokks quite the same as the old game. Basically it's the same game: you are a buble that can suck up misc colors (and get bigger) to paint the town and squash enemies. Of course it looks better than the old "Der Blob" game, so it's kind of a good successor ...
... if it wouldn't be so bad in the technical side: low resolution graphics, catastrophic input control with keys and not working input control with my gamepad (Logitech). I started yusing the mouse to stear, but it took me a while to figure out why my blob was moving always in circles: the mosue just increases/decreases the rotation spead - no staring! The poor graphics resolution and the bad and buggy controls destroys the game. Too bad: to recommendation.
I played this game as a Kid on my Wii, and that magic still carries over. Keep in mind this isn't really a 2017 game like the steam release date might say. This is a 2008 game, and all that nostalgia is SO HERE! Good easy challenges, great music, the vibes are just here. And for $2 on steam autumn/black friday sale, can't beat it.
the sequel to Splatoon goes hard

I have to be honest I didn't play the Original Wii Version from 2008 when I was younger but I do remember the Frutiger Aero era that this game represents really well and really woke up my nostalgia for the times when life was much simpler. How did We get from such nice visuals that this game presents in really good way to Flat Slop to AI Slop We get nowadays? HOW DID WE DROP FROM THIS?!
That's enough of complaints.
The game looks really good on today's standards IT'S...SO...COLORFUL. It has really nice idea that different color which can be picked up or mixed means different beat to the soundtrack that you can actually select.
Storywise It isn't really that great but from the gameplay perspective It's really good. You have to manage your time by completing challenges while coloring enough spaces to progress further in each level. Challenges go from races, to coloring specific building with different colors, to beating some enemies, etc.
Overall play it If you wanna go on nostalgia trip, wanna listen to some great music or you wanna play something relaxing cause this game can definitely offer it all.
I remember playing the hell out of this on the Wii and it's timeless. Love the funky soundtrack and the colorful gameplay. Controls can sometimes be a bit clunky but other than that it's worth it.
Criminally underrated game I've been obsessed with since I was a kid playing it on my uncle's Wii. Phenomenal music & musical integration with gameplay, super fun gameplay loop itself, such a unique presentation style and premise, so many collectibles and challenges, and for ppl with both ADHD and ASD like me, visual & auditory stimuli galore.
Absolutely a must-play for literally anybody looking for something new. PLEASE show this game the love it deserves.
