About the Game

Mutants and monsters unleash maniacal carnage on the gridiron in THIS action packed, arcade-style football game. Mutant Football League delivers intense online multiplayer action, deep strategy and deadly humor.
Fantastical arenas full of ruthless fans and deadly traps set the stage for mayhem in every contest that allows players to win by highest score or by killing and eradicating their opponents - a feat made easier as teams use their unique “Dirty Tricks” such as “Bribe the Ref” to overturn a call or having a player become “Ginormous” to grow in size and pummel the puny combatants in their path. Whenever a game begins you’ll quickly discover the only predictable element is broken bones.
Mutant Football League is the bloody-fun, next-gen, successor to arcade-style American football games, taking inspiration from over-the-top sports games such as NFL Blitz and the Sega Genesis classic, Mutant League Football. Digital Dreams' MFL game delivers deep strategic 7-on-7 gameplay, with bone-crunching, tooth-shattering, head splitting hits, and a roster of comical ghouls delivering tongue-through-cheek humor. Oh, and blood. Lots of blood.

- Two player online or four player local MULTIPLAYER gives you the choice to clobber one another or team up and crush opposing miscreants.
- Choose from 18 TEAMS made up of blood thirsty, wisecracking Skeletal Deadheads, Armored Bruiserbots, Criminal Aliens, Mutated Humans and Monstrous Orcs.
- NBA Jam and NFL Blitz hall of fame commentator, Tim Kitzrow gives unforgettable, adult-oriented play-by play commentary for every game.
- Use Dirty Tricks during game play to Bribe the Ref, throw Bombs, or equip Shotguns and Chainsaws to your players to inflict maximum carnage against the unsuspecting competition for real difference-making moments!
- 18 unique fields across the league offer landmines, booby traps, fire pits, toxic moats and buzz saws as fun but deadly obstacles.
- Play as MFL All-Stars Drak Bloodclot, Despawn Rotsom, Jorgan Lust and more who dominate the league with their rising kill counts and ferocious abilities.
- Includes updated team rosters and player ratings for the 2023 season!
- Multiple punishing play modes like EXHIBITION, PRACTICE, PLAYOFFS, or try to survive a FULL SEASON and reach the ultimate glory: THE MAYHEM BOWL!
- Make the most of POST-PLAY MAYHEM by bludgeoning your opponents with brass knuckles, body slams, and rib-crushing kicks after the whistle blows
- Exploding body parts, comically horrific deaths, and blood splatters fuel the MFL GORE FX visual experience.

This game is amazing. If your just looking for a "football game", this game will surprise you. I suggest getting the Dynasty edition. Dynasty mode is brutal at first but its rewarding. I was about to download it again and play it. Turns out MFL2 is in early access so giving that a go instead.
Go Birds!!!!!
Dallas sucks.
Super Bowl LIX true final score, Eagles 40 - Chiefs 6

Peyote Maiming is my GOAT over Bomb Shady tbh
better than any madden game since 2006
This is such a fun game and the commentary is hilarious. I would much rather play this than Madden any day! It has good graphic and the game play is fun and addictive. The names of the teams and players are a riot and it just makes you want to keep playing. Hands down one of the best football games out right now IMO. If you like playing football games and want to step out side the norm...check it out!
This is a spectacular sports game, comedy game, and strategy game. There’s a lot more going on here than meets the eye; so much so, that I think referring to Mutant Football League as only an arcade-style football game is an underselling of its quality. I will absolutely be picking up the sequel when it fully launches. And even though it’s well on the way, I wouldn’t shy away from recommending this to any American football fan.
I picked up Mutant Football League a few times to just play a game or two without fully getting it. The most recent time I tried it though, I got addicted and blitzed through two whole seasons of the Dynasty mode in just a few days.
MFL has all the staples of the arcade-style football game. Reduced player count, funny voiceovers, excessive violence, and simplified controls. The reduced player count let’s the game flow well, and keeps scoring high. Funny voiceovers are plentiful, and although some will be repeated very often, it’s nice there’s some unique ones for the “Mayhem Bowl” among other rare occurrences. There’s a wide collection of tackle animations that don't stale. And simplified controls enhance decision-making as a key factor, as opposed to button complexity. It feels great, and takes virtually no time to learn the basics. All of these things are implemented well, and if that was all this game had to offer, it would still be recommendable, but there’s other things going on and they add substantial enjoyment to the game.
It might take a while, but eventually you’ll learn that each character type (deadheads, bruiserbots, aliens, etc.) has its own strengths, and that some of their strengths might be more valuable at certain position types. This isn’t really relevant in play mode, but it is in dynasty.
The stadiums are also really cool! Each stadium has unique hazards, and learning how to play around them will not only greatly enhance your fun, but also can add strategic depth to the gameplay. Tactically running over a mine to kill more opponent players than you? Picking a play which forces a receiver to run his route just on the other side of a lava pit? These are enjoyable and depth enhancing features!
Another fun thing is the dirty trick system. Initially, the plays seem like low-strategy free TD’s. But there’s other stuff going on here. Did you turn the ball over in your own half? Great, time to run a low risk QB-attack. Are your opponent’s linebashers and safeties their biggest threat? Hot potato, cya! The ref has been bribed? What’s the appropriate response, killing him or re-bribing him yourself? These decisions do matter and learning that is an extremely satisfying part of the game.
The limitation is that each team has their own dirty tricks, and there’s no way to mix and match, even when some would synergize with your team maybe better than others. Although some combinations are pretty thematically appropriate.
This customization more generally is the game’s biggest missing piece. Creating a stadium (even if just the field only) would pump this game to a completely new level! Having a player creator/editor or a team creator/editor would be unbelievable! These two features are on my wishlist for the sequel, and based on the store page description, sounds like they will be part of it!
Other minor shortcomings are: not being able to directional-switch player pre-snap, no button to control player facing direction, limited player/GM decisions in dynasty mode, and a difficulty curve that I think isn’t quite right, as well as a cpu-intelligence based on ‘conventional’ American football decision making, as opposed to today’s more analytics-oriented one (i.e. cpu 4th down decisions don’t seem well informed).
But unexpected positives, besides those already listed are: a good suite of settings for gameplay (no dirty tricks, karnage options, quarter lengths, etc.) the ability to have cpu-vs-cpu games (fun for betting with friends), a pretty killer soundtrack, and just so many puns and great write-ups on teams.
Really pleased with this, and I think that arcade sports fans have much to love, but more traditional sports fans can find some real compelling gameplay here, and will definitely enjoy this against the cpu, or also with friends.
8/10
Just like the old school version! but better!
hard at times but super silly and fun football game
As a fan of "BLITZ" this what I've been waiting for!
Dynasty also gives a chance to build a team while enjoying the arcade carnage.
Recommended!
This game is fun and hilarious!
Mutant Football League is, by far, my favorite video game version of American Football ever. It's not even close. I'd even say it's in my top five sports games overall - if I had a list of those.
I'm a 90s kid and had a Sega Genesis growing up, and I'm well acquainted with the Mutant League Football/Hockey games this new series is inspired by. This new version takes the irreverent and grotesque tone of those games, adds a healthy dose of satire, and plants it directly into what turns out to be an extremely competent football game.
Obviously, if you're looking for a deep, serious football game to play, well... for starters, why are you looking at a game called Mutant Football League? This game certainly leans hard into the arcade side of things - not to mention that you can win a game by killing all of the players on the opposing team. That's an actual strategy.
I can't watch someone score a touchdown in any other football video game - hell, even in a REAL LIFE game - without, for a brief second, waiting for a bullcrap penalty to be called because the other team had the foresight to bribe the ref right before the snap.
Every actual NFL team is "represented" here, although a handful of them are only available through paid DLC that costs very little (or, at this point, you should be able to just buy it all in one bundle.)
There's plenty of blood, gore, and bad language (especially kind of crazy considering one of the announcers is legendary NBA Jam announcer Tim "BOOMSHAKALAKA!" Kitzrow,) but nothing that should hurt anybody's feelings.
Digital Dreams has done a great job of keeping this title updated, but with MFL 2 in early access, don't expect that to last much longer. That being said, this is still one of the best football games ever made and worth picking up.
Played on Steam Deck: 800@60fps on 10 watts.
A fun arcade football (handegg) experience that works well on the Steam Deck.
What it lacks in depth, it makes up for it silly antics and carnage. Now with a free Dynasty DLC where you can build up your own team. There's a nice blend of satire and humour, which fans of the NFL will get.
Commentary is decent, although has some very out of the blue references and swearing. Which in hindsight, shouldn't be expected as the game is 18 rated.

If the chainsaw gauntlet doesn't fit, then you must acquit!
The only sports game I like.
If football was like this, then it would justify their ridiculous million dollar contracts.
I really REALLY like this game. I have gripes however.
Staring with positive though cause It does outweigh the negative. The presentation is excellent. It's silly and fun and carries a lot of the charm of the original. the dynasty mode is a fun challenge and the game play is smooth and reminiscent of NFL blitz in a lot of ways. There so many options to play the game the way you want and that is also appreciated. The fact that the rosters are constantly updated and the massive amount of content that is available since it's release is amazing. This is by far my favorite football game and it isn't even close.
I feel as though this is a problem with a lot of football games but sometimes it's just decides you're going to lose. Like so many awful blunders come in a row derails whatever lead you're holding onto and the game is over. Another thing I've noticed is they know when my dirty plays are coming and they will just counter with whatever dirty play they have or bribe the ref. It tears apart your momentum and these two flaws make the dynasty mode frustrating sometimes as missing on money sometimes means no player signings or trades, maybe you don't get to resurrect enough players, and you don't get to upgrade your players for a whole week. It feels a bit upsetting.
As far as features I think the game needs, a separate franchise mode that doesn't follow the dynasty formula, lets you play for a few years, you can simulate games, and maybe even a draft if it isn't too much trouble. I'd say the game mode probably only needs to go out 10-12 years to make it a worthy experience. I would gladly fork over another 15-20 in DLC if you made a mode like that. It's the only thing keeping me from dumping madden altogether.
This game is a great time. Delivers on what it needs too.
This game is a ton of fun! Two buzzards up!
fun but biggest downside is no player base really
For those who have never heard of gridiron football before, this game is a FANTASTIC intro on how it works. You get to learn how offenses and defenses make plays, what the BEST play is for a certain situation, and how to make the most of the players you have out there. Want to see if you can convert a 3rd and 14 running a hail mary?? Or maybe you want to see exactly why running blitz for a pass play instead of zone or man is a BAD IDEA.
Point is, its whimsical, fucking hilarious at times, and educational.
9.3/10.
The main quickplay is fun..
The DYNASTY mode is just fucking AWFUL. I guess their logic is you're supposed to build the team up over time, but your ENTIRE TEAM starts with 40 rating, so you literally cant do ANYTHING in the games.. you just sit for 30+ minutes getting your ass handed to you. Its ZERO fun. You cant run, you cant pass, you cant do anything.. Even the scrub teams just destroy you.
How is this supposed to be entertaining when you cant even get a first down??
I love bribes
Lost our game because of two penalties on touchdowns. In the game we had 3 penalties on on touchdowns. It's just random garbage.
fuck metal yeah bitch
The best football game ever made!
Great game! a better alternative to madden
