Decent Story. Boring generic RPGmaker Combat.
It's an OK game, nothing too special about it. The achievements are somewhat buggy. Did first session yesterday and when I closed, the first 2 cheevos popped up at the same time even though one should have triggered earlier than the other.
Wouldn't pay full price though but it's OK i guess. Only got it because it was on sale.
Game finished in 7 hours with all corners explored. Combat is boring and slow, same rotation of skills in each combat. Straight story, player has no possibilities to affect it. I am not sure why it is called subterra, nearly all houses are wooden with roof, many maps have grass on it without decent explanation.
Story is linear but serviceable, there's not much to do other than the main quest, however is not a terrible game.
Grab it on sale if you wanna kill some hours.
Also save before entering the final dungeon, I interacted with a specific jump tile that got me softlocked.
Not quite sure what I just played, but deff not 10 hour gameplay, and I had to do stuff, left afk for like 2-3 hrs. Its like a generic game, but there are a lot of generics games... This is just bad.
Honestly, I liked this game. The poison hack everyone's talking about is pretty sweet, ngl.
I did find the mazes a tad infuriating at points...easy to get lost and I was constantly running into enemies.
Art was what it was. I liked that the sprites didn't match the drawings.
Story is middling, though the 'pale' is freakin' hilarious. Multiple endings would have been interesting, but for 49 cents, I ain't complaining.
Was it 10 hours? Even for a casual noob like moi, nope. Maaaaaybe if I was to explore more and kill every monster, I could hit 6 or so.
If you're looking for a time-killer, you could do a lot worse than Subterra.
I wasn't sure if I should do a yes or no to recommend to others. I only paid 49 cents so for that price I am saying yes. There's quite a bit of grammatical errors but they don't really affect anything too much. There's also a few glitches still in the game after all this time, some that prevent you from going to certain areas on the map, like others have already stated. The story itself is okay and is pretty basic, but has the potential to be really good if you use your imagination a little bit. The maps are confusing at best and with no mini maps they are difficult to navigate. There is no restoration of stats on level ups and minus a couple of new abilities there's almost no reason to level up. There's no place to heal mid dungeon so make sure you bring items with you. I love exploring and grinding through dungeons but I found myself just trying to get from point A to point B. I skipped and avoided most battles and still was able to easily defeat the final boss. I'm glad all the achievements seem to be unmissable because I don't think I'd be able to give this another play through, but again it was only 49 cents so it was worth it to me. Good for a few hours of distraction.
The in game art work is terrible, your main character is always seen with a sword but can only equip axes. The game is super short you can beat it in 4 hours also is really easy, one thing i did like about the game is the story but obviously because of the short length there's not much character development don't recommend it unless your really bored and its on sale for like a dollar.
I bought the game for less than a dollar on sale, and I'd say I got my moneys worth. Its a short, easy RPG that is occasionally buggy. A good time killer for a few hours
Bottm line: super short RPG with a fun little story, but enemies don't respawn so you must be careful how you spend your money at the item shops.
This is an old-school RPG. No grinding though, enemies never respawn. That makes it somewhat difficult to manage your items; you should have enough money to buy all of the equipment upgrades as you go but not much left to pay for healing items. Luckily one character is a decent healer, and when she runs out of MP and you run low on HP you can go sleep at an inn or go all the way back to your house and sleep for free there. The only real bug I found is that in the last couple of dungeons there are three places where the developer messed up and made the path too narrow to walk through, but these are just side areas leading to some probably-useless treasure.
The story goes that humans were chased from the surface of the earth by a monster and are forced to live underground. Now they are at war with the indigenous subterranean people, who are locked in a civil war of their own as well. There is a legend about a magical sword that has the power to kill the monster, and your main character is the "chosen one" to wield that blade and return his people to the surface.
Aside from that, it is a very short game, can be beaten in a single day. It is possible, if you skip as many fights as you can, to finish in about an hour actually. By the end of the game you will probably be somewhere between level 10-12, depending how many enemies you decided to fight or walk around them and skip the battles. Being as it is very short, I recommend waiting for it to go on sale.
Nice little game, finished in 5 hours taking my time.
Pros :
- easy, for casual gamers
- short story, good for an evening chilling on your couch
- ennemies do not re-spawn and can be avoided, so no drawn out battles during dungeons.
Cons :
- way too easy : once you have paralyze, you can virtually destroy any ennemy, even the final boss did not touch me
- it's easy to get lost in dungeons, if you want to clear the game
- some bugs : you can pass through textures
- the story is more than simplistic, and the characters have a tea spoon of depth
- the story finishes abruptly, with no real ending.
I would not pay more than 1€ to get this game.
Subterra = Subpar
No way is this worth $4.99. I purchased it for $0.49 and still do not think it was worth it. So far I have played two Rpg maker games from Warfare Studios and both had bugs as well as lacked any substance. If you want a cheap Rpg maker style game that is short but sweet there are a lot of other options.
The game felt short as you were going through it like it was trying to nickel and dime you for a next "chapter" to purchase, which is why I find the $4.99 price tag to be so offensive. It's a wolf in sheep's clothing. It looks like an rpg so someone can buy it and spend enough time to where they cannot return it by then. Oh and here let us throw in some boobs to get people distracted for those 90 minutes. Which does not work on me but hey it does for some people!
The story is save your half naked sister from an underground illness *cough cough* Help her boobs to see the light! You are the main guy whose name I already forget and you just want to be alone with her on the outskirts of town so no one can hear her screams. I mean because you love your sister and your parents are dead.. so no witnesses.
Your sister apparently is a healer, and yet cannot cure her illness. She also has a bow as a weapon and when she attacks she is punching?! I do not even know who the character is who is in the picture for the game..
Pros- The game was only 5 hours
Cons- The game was 5 hours!!!!
P.S there are so many other problems like walking through boxes, invisible structures blocking your path etc. If I mention all of the problems it would mean I would be putting more effort into my review than the creators did in making the game and well... that has already happened so no need to type more. ^_^ Can you say cash grab?
P.S.S But it has boobs.
There are so many bugs: a lot of collision bugs, a blonde character with a dark haired sprite, a human enemy with an orc sprite, a character using a bow fighting in close combat, so many useless techniques (the mage is stronger with her knife than with her spells)... And it's not a 10 hours rpg as written on the store but less than 5 hours.
Think this game kinda' belongs in the Subterra.
Don't get me wrong, I recognized the trailer and immediately thought of Chosen RPG and Storm of Spears RPG (same dev who created this game) and thought to give it a try after buying it during Summer Sale. Given what I paid, I can't complain too much, but this is clearly a low point for this developer.
Story is about as cliche as it gets. The hero Dryst is fated to be the hero who saves mankind, but doesn't want the responsibility as he takes care of his sick sister. You later find out that the reason the sister (Dian) is sick is because she's underground and the only cure is the Sun (Gee, who didn't see that coming?), adventure happens, enemies become allies, there's a royal person in disguise, a sacrificial person that doesn't seem to care that her life is just so she can die, stuff you've seen a thousand times before.
True, the RPGs I mentioned above are kinda' bad, but I actually enjoyed both of them. Subterra has bugged and uninspired maps, no hidden objects (or new dialogues), and only rewards the player with boredom and repetitive enemy fights. Every area has a set of 2-3 groups of monsters that keeps popping up. Battles are dispersed by monsters that physically roam the levels (well...they waddle towards you) and eliminating them results in their permanent erasure from the game...meaning that gold is finite, don't go too crazy with it. Your average RPG player will know to spend gold on important stuff and still come out in the end with a few thousand gold.
So, do I recommend Subterra? Not this time. Subterra may be made by the same guy(s) who made Chosen RPG (though the name differs here...it's Warfare Studios here and Little Big Lee on Chosen RPG) and Storm of Spears, but this title captures none of the charm. It's as uninspired and generic as it gets. Not worth your $5, but maybe worth about $1. Most people say this game takes them 6 hours to complete. Others say 2 hours if you get sick of all the dialogue and go from point A to point B. I've exhausted everything this game had to offer in about 4.5 hours and left sorely disappointed.
3/10 So, that's why they call it Subterra. Because that's where it belongs.
A great evil named Devordor has driven humanity underground, and the spawn that live there now fight with the remnants. Even these remnants have internal issues, not least "the Pale", which appears to be in relation to being forced to live underground (lack of direct sunlight can be... hazardous).
The main hero of this tale is Dryst who seeks to protect his sister Dian and through some happenstances, is forced to try and save these last vestiges of humanity and face Devordor.
Characters are interesting, plot is engaging, and the gameplay... well, it is RPGMaker, so decent...
Worth a try.
Bosses pose no real threat because the main character can just paralyze them and let you mash attack for the rest of the fight. Very minimal to no grinding needed. Story wise; this game is nothing spectacular, but is entertaining for the few hours of playtime it has. (Which even exploring everything couldn't be more than 5-6 hours.)
Unless you're looking for a challenge, this is worth picking up when on sale if you want an rpg to kill time.
Easy RPG Game and Easy boss, the boss can casted paralyz so the boss stuck, can't move at all and wait for it's dead by protagonist. at least the story is good overall, I like happy ending. but really it's a short story afterall, so relax and enjoy it if you play this game =D.
Welp...this is another game that I just finished a few minuts ago. My verdict about this game is that it's not bad....it's a pretty short RPG maker game (about 3 hours of gameplay), but there are some glitches in the game but since it's still an Early Access game I'm not gonna complain too much.
If you want to play a quick RPG maker game, then you should add this to your library and give this a try for yourself.
Games story is ok, would like some plot twists, mini games, or strategy needed to defeat enemies. Paralysis spell from hero works on bosses. no monsters have counter attacks or seem strong against physical or magical attacks. Story is ok. Glad i bought this when on sale. Game pretty much needs no skill.
A very short and sweet rpg. I finished it completely in 6 hours by getting every achievement, finished every quest and killed every monsters (monster DO NOT respawn in this game.) and collected every single treasure chest.
So at the end of 6 hours, I was tired of running around with nothing to kill or do, and just went ahead and kill the big boss, Devora and finished the game.
I got the game on sale for like $0.49 and is defnintely worth it. I did not find any major game breaking bugs. The quests are also very easy to follow and I have no problem getting to the end.
This game is good for taking a break, after playing a whole week of Civilization 6. Please do not have any high expectations of the game --- it's just a regular, short RPG maker game for killing time. It has a OK storyline, nothing innovative but also not buggy. Good for killing time.
The game is alright, I would say better get it on a sale. Alright changed the review annd i beat the game within like 2 hours? Problem is once your get the paralysis spell on the main guy you can stun pretty much anything even bosses. The game doesnt take you 10 hours as it states, and you dont need to grind really, as long you do some fights get lvl 8 and find some gear and buy the new weps in each town you will be able to beat the game easy peasy.
