Описание

Canopia is in danger! The lizard wizard Glykon has stolen the world’s essence to augment his powers and reshape the land at his will. If he captures and devours all four Essence Spirits, all will be lost… Our only hope lies in Juno, the last free Spirit!

Juno’s Darkest Hour is a simple but challenging 2D action adventure platformer game inspired by the side-scrollers of the past. Explore the secrets of a vast monochromatic and pixelated world, accompanied by a nostalgia-driven soundtrack.

Guide little defenseless Juno through the strange and dangerous land of Canopia in order to rescue her friends and put a stop to Glykon’s evil plans. Quick reflexes and sharp wits will be required to escape and defeat the wizard’s minions. Combine different characters and items to access new areas and discover more and more treasures, until you are ready to confront Glykon!

Will you succeed against all odds, or will you die over and over again?

Features

  • Explore 40 levels with a wide variety in themes : a forest covered in snow, a pirate-infested lagoon, the cozy gentlemen’s lounge, an abandoned temple built on a volcano, caverns made of crystal, a haunted palace soaring across the sky, and much more!
  • Rescue additional playable characters to benefit from their unique abilities, such as being unable to climb ladders and only being able to say "Meow"!
  • Hone your platforming skills to avoid enemies! Compensate for your lack of means of self-defense by equipping useful items like the Top Hat, which greatly increases your social standing.
  • Copious amounts of bottomless pits to fall into!
  • Over eight different bosses to defeat with unexpected strategies. Transform into a sonic assault butterfly to fight the evil spiders or go toe-to-toe against an immortal warrior in a fierce orb duel!
  • Revisit levels with different character/item combinations to collect all the Season Fragments, unlocking pieces of lore and weakening the evil force corrupting the land!
  • There are also probably some secret things to find?
  • But you'll mostly find bottomless pits!

Juno's Darkest Hour is yet another of literally thousands of 2D retro platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere.

This is a particularly poorly made platformer. I hope it's trying to emulate a Gameboy (if so, this is a terrible idea and a good explanation for why the game was such a dismal failure), because if not, it's just awfully made for no clear reason at all. Then again, we're deep in the shovelware section of the Steam store, so anything is possible.

All you do in this platformer is do some precision platforming, collect stuff, don't let the baddies bump your heart containers to empty, etc etc. It's been done a thousand times or more, all better than this.

From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.

A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result.

There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision.

The game only displays in a bizarre 1:1 aspect ratio. Like... do they own a completely square monitor? Has the developer never seen a computer before? This isn't really acceptable, and it's unclear why the developer couldn't format the game correctly. Another reason to avoid this.

To make matters worse, there's no mouse input, despite this being sold on PC as if it were a PC game. This is unacceptable and somewhat insulting to PC gamers. It's a good demonstration of the poor attitude the developer has towards PC gamers, and this attitude has resulted in yet another defect in this game.

These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.

You don't have to take my word about how bad the game is, we can measure the interest in a game by how much people bothered to play it. Juno's Darkest Hour has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game absolutely failed to capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is "Hunger Slayer", collecting some food while already at full health, you can get this within 30 seconds of starting the game, trivial to achieve, but less than 3 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. That's a tiny, tiny proportion of gamers who even bothered with this. Ouch.

Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a modest spike in player counts for the game. But this only happened once, and isn't consistent with the achievement stats, that show less than 3 percent of players bothered playing the game for any reasonable amount of time. How is it possible for this game to have so many concurrent players who didn't bother engaging with this game? Trading cards. People will use card idling software to collect the cards and sell them, but this won't trigger any achievements in-game.

That tells us people only really bought this game for trading cards, and that's a damning indictment of the woeful quality. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with little merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards.

So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 110,000+ games on Steam?

Juno's Darkest Hour is relatively cheap at $3 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. This is also competing with over 14,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product.

I am 32 years old.

My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old.

When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing.

Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side.

With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay.

After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like.

Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends.

Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together.

Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that.

Thank you.

Great music & level design.
The controls have some roughness, but nothing you can't deal with.

Give this hidden gem a try.

This game is pretty fun, but it is very difficult for me (not that that's a bad thing). I'd say check it out and give it a try!

TL;DR If you're into the aesthetics and challenging platforming with some metroidvania-light exploration elements, then this game is easily worth your time and money.

Updated Review:

After coming back to beat this game after a break, I've come to the opinion that Juno is much better designed than it needs to be - easily superior to most of the other recent "NES" clones which don't have solid gameplay to back up their retro look.

If you quit playing Juno after a few hours, let me encourage you with my experience that the game is much deeper than it first appears and ends quite strongly.

Original review:

Has some metroidvania elements in that you unlock new areas by acquiring new items and thorougly exploring already visited levels. It can be much more difficult than the early levels suggest, and a few parts have been quite frustating with slippery feeling controls. But overall the platforming has felt solid and fair, and at this point I think the fun outweighs the frustation to the point where I will try to complete the game. Music is also solid.

Gameboy Style Platformer

Juno's Darkest Hour is a short but challenging platformer with an emphasis of exploring and finding items to traverse. An interesting mechanic is that the main character at the start can not fight back, can only bounce on enemy heads. This means when fighting bosses, you need to collect butterflys to transform into a beast that can fight back, so often fights are tense as you sit and defend. Quite challenging, recommend for people who love non - linear level design and varied level styles.

Deffently a throw back to the nes/GB games. Controls are easy, audio is 8-bit style. and the price is deffently right
