"Full Controller support" well that was a lie
This Mega Man game sux
I never leave reviews, but this game needs a few. This is a great time for $4. Played it for 1.5 hours right after downloading it, which is a lot for me. Enjoy.
Really cute and fun game. Great for casual players, as it is easy enough to play but hard enough to be a decent challenge. The music is one of my favorites things. If you are a fan of chiptune music, then you will like the soundtrack of this game.
Play Home World Run when it releases.
An interesting take on 'brick breaker', combining it with bullet hell elements and bosses. A solid game overall.
This is just Touhou 1 (Highly Responsive to Prayers) but with more i-frames and powerups.
A solid arcade experience that truly deserves to have it's own Arcade machine, this screams classic, and it was made with a huge passion, if you were the kid that liked to go to the arcades to play games of all kinds this is a must have for your collection
Fantastic music, fun gameplay, and ridiculously cheap, absolutely recommend it
Very good casual game, easy to pick up and play. But even still the game is a callenge for all a worth the time.
Picked this up in some Steam Sale a year ago, only just got around to trying it out. Was pleasantly surprised to find a really innovative breakout clone with solid core gameplay!
It's alright.
For a small game that's cheap, it has a nice premise.
My biggest complaint is that it gets repetative. The music and the gameplay both kind of wear on you by level 7 of any given section (10 levels each).
If you like these type of breakout-style games, then give it a try.
It has a lot of charm--I personally like your three hits as "strike 1, 2 and 3"--but lack of variety keeps me from recommending it.
I'd encourage the developer to keep that style they made for the intro. That was a nice throwback to the simple and fun video game intros.
It's not as if I love Breakout or any of its clones that have surfaced over the past 40 years, but something about this game just made it click for me. Perhaps it is my love of baseball that makes a baseball bat and baseball weapon tandem that much sweeter. Maybe I love its challenging but forgiving gameplay and design choices. It could be the interesting bosses that have no right to be as fun as I found them. It might also be because I find its replayability so high.
Chances are, it's a bit of everything and while I have barely played any other games from 2017, I can say that it is without a doubt my favorite game from 2017 as of this review.
A short, very challenging and fun game, well worth it's low price tag!
Basically a better Touhou 1. Swing your bat and make that ball bounce until every brick in the level has been destroyed, while bullying aliens until they cry surviving alien attacks.
Lifetime: two to four hours depending on how good you are.
(+) Really tight gameplay which makes full use of every mechanic (except for scooching which is really minor)
(+) Fantastic soundtrack by +tek (Discovered this game thanks to his work!)
(+) For one, actually decent pixelart
(+) Greatly rewards skill
(+) Level editor
((+) Responsive dev, added an option to reduce screenshake quickly after I complained !

Also fixed some of the issues i have listed below after this review was posted)
(-) Small design mistakes that add a bit of frustration, such as readability problems (background is too bright)*, explosion hurtboxes lasting their whole animation, some really deceptive boss attacks (instant lasers without warning of which areas will be hit, thus requiring memorization from the player/die and retry)* and the slide mechanic being too overpowered, making the player too reliant on it.
(*FIXED)
Besides these really minor issues AGHR is a great little game I would warmly recommend if you are bored and have a spare afternoon to spend!
It's the best baseball/alien defence simulator money can buy.
I can't remember how or why I bought this but I noticed it in my Libraty recently and thought it was silly so I gave it a shot.
It was some super spicy breakout action! Super hectic but also really fair. I like that you don't get a strike if you're hit right out of the slide.
The graphics are simple and the music can get a little repetitive, but these don't stop it from being a real HOME RUN!
It is breakout in a new and interesting way! Great visuals and music and many of the levels have plenty of challenges to overcome!
I got this game on sale, but would have paid full price. The game difficulty is all over the place, with some levels being silly easy, and others being hard. However I don't think any of the hard parts of the game felt unfair*, and mostly boiled down to really making great use of a slide mechanic. The bigest crime is that this game doesn't have a sound track you can download.
*some of the hit boxes are a little off, namely using the slide move to disable a land mine requires for you to wait a second for the hurt box of the mine to disapear before you can then walk through the area it occupied. Still just a really minor thing.
I have mixed feelings about this game for a couple of reasons, one is that the balance and difficulty curve in this game is often pretty bad and, after taking a break from video games for a couple of weeks, the game has seemingly deleted my save data (I was at the final boss too). I do however definitely recommend this game and here's why.
First of all, the game practically oozes charm. If you're into games that are built upon a wacky or crazy idea, or even into games with a good sense of humor, then this is definitely the game for you. Who knew that bloodthirsty aliens could be fought off with baseball ey? The charm even seeps into the gameplay too. At the base of the game we have Breakout but with a completely different rule set. It actually makes Breakout engaging and fun to play, and honestly the worlds/levels that are good are REALLY GOOD. I had a blast playing the levels I actually enjoyed. And holy hell the music in this game is so damn good. I really wish there were more tracks. This is probably more of a backhanded compliment but the music is SO good that I feel like it's wasted somewhat. Most of the bosses share the same theme and I think it would've been cool to have separate boss themes. But that's just me. The art style and character designs are super cool too.
But the game is definitely far from perfect. Firstly the difficulty curve in this game makes no sense whatsoever. World 1, 3 and sometimes 5 are a piece of cake. Worlds 2 and 4 though? Yeesh... My main issue with world 2 is that they introduce one of the most annoying and difficult enemies in the game... straight after world 1. I'm talking about the green slime aliens. You run into them, you get locked in place and have to button mash to break free. Oh and they also take three hits to kill and they have invincibility frames. I'm really not a fan of enemies that freeze or lock you into place and the fact that they're introduced so early and are so hard to kill just made me feel frustrated rather than challenged. Oh and there's a boss that's basically a giant green slime alien on world 4. Why oh why did they think making the most annoying enemy in the game into a boss was a good idea. The green slime boss is by far the worst part of this game. There are a few other small issues with the game but they're mostly nitpicky... dodging sometimes goes in the wrong direction (probably my fault), I only seemed to get items when I didn't need them (probably just a coincidence), the game deleted my save data (probably an isolated issue) etc.
Overall, it's a neat indie game with quite a few flaws. That said, you should definitely pick this game up. It's only £2.79 and even though it has some flaws you'll at least have fun with world 1, a little bit of world 2 and the custom levels... that in itself is at least 2 hours of enjoyment (at least for me). And hey, if you aren't a crybaby like me and don't mind an insanely hard game, this REALLY is the game for you. But maybe not quite for me.
6/10
A fun and wacky mix of Arkanoid, Gradius, and baseball.
The slide is your best friend and it wont take too long to master it when you learn how to graxe enemy bullets. Be careful, if you play for too long you start to mix up your x and z key's
gameplay and music are so sweet
the only flaw is that i terribly suck at this game
What if Touhou and Breakout had a baby? What if that baby decided to play baseball?
This is that baby.
This game thrives on chaos. You gotta dodge. You gotta dive. But most importantly, you gotta home run.
Controls are simple; you can run and swing like a madman or scoot (as the game calls it) and line up your shots, and do a slide to knock the ball up, among other things, like destroy those annoying crusher bots. Keyboard is good, but my fingers are more comfortable to the controller settings.
PRO TIP: The slide is your best friend. Once you get used to the will of the ball you'll be setting up some nice combos.
