Cursed West
Has a total of 5 trading cards.
Cursed West is a laughably badly made low poly 3D side scrolling arcade shooter with a Western theme. I don't think this is an asset flip, the assets look worse than any professional asset creator would try selling on an asset store. But that's a problem in itself. Gameplay is equally bad and uninspired, all you do is walk clunkily around, aim up/left/right/whatever and shoot your laser pistol at enemies (it looks like a laser pistol even if it's a 6 shooter... did I mention this was badly made?).
The game is very simplistic, small and limited in scope and ambition. This feels more like a tech demo, proof of concept or student homework assignment rather than a fully fledged product designed for PC gamers. As such it doesn't offer any real value as a serious PC game.
From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
The game features lazy low-polygon "retro" assets, making this look like a barely functional 3D game from the mid 2000s. It's unclear why the developers weren't able to arrange high quality, high polygon count contemporary assets for the game, and also irrelevant... what matters is that this looks bad as a result of their decisions, a compromise PC gamers shouldn't have to put up with.
The developers didn't design the game for modern gaming PCs, as such the display resolution caps out at 1080p, a very low resolution that became mainstream back in 2006 and became obsolete when 4K entered the mainstream in 2014. The game simply won't look right on modern gaming displays due to this failure on the part of the developers.
The controls and game handling are notably very clunky and unsmooth here. It's janky and unsatisfying to play... and any experienced gamer will tell you, the handling, responsiveness and general gameplay feel of the control scheme must be well polished for this kind of game to succeed. Unfortunately, this is something the developer seems to have phoned in, with little to no apparent gameplay testing. They dropped the ball on this one.
The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
You don't have to take my word about how bad the game is, we can measure the interest in a game by how much people bothered to play it. Cursed West has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game absolutely failed to capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for starting the game, trivial to achieve, but less than 2 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. That's a tiny, tiny proportion of gamers who even bothered with this. Ouch.
Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a very healthy spike in player counts for the game. But this only happened once, and isn't consistent with the achievement stats, that show less than 2 percent of players bothered playing the game for any reasonable amount of time. How is it possible for this game to have so many concurrent players who didn't bother engaging with this game? Trading cards. People will use card idling software to collect the cards and sell them, but this won't trigger any achievements in-game.
That tells us people only really bought this game for trading cards, and that's a damning indictment of the woeful quality. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with little merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards.
So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam?
Cursed West is relatively cheap at $1 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. This is also competing with over 11,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product.
it's cursed alright
I am 32 years old.
My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old.
When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing.
Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side.
With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay.
After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like.
Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends.
Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together.
Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that.
Thank you.

A freaking cowboy becomes a freaking space god.
The only thing cursed is this game. Bleh
settle down cowboy
POV: You're a developer that puts little to no effort into games and then you give out keys for free to boost your positive reviews.
Speaking of the game: It's a complete garbage, the graphics are terrible low-quality blurry crap and the gameplay is like being tortured by devil himself. The only good thing about the game is that it has trading cards.

Looking for a good arcade-style run-n-gun a la Sunset Riders? Well, look somewhere else, tenderfoot! The developer, who has some talent, has made design choices that I believe drastically reduce the fun factor.
There are only a few levels that give something akin to the expected arcade experience. One might call it a mosey-n-gun. The bullets move slower than in any arcade game, but they are still annoyingly hard to dodge. Your bullets don't go in a straight line forward; the instead spread randomly within a x-degree angle of your gun. This means some of your shots will miss (or you'll keep shooting, hoping that one will go at the right angle to hit an enemy) and, coupled with the reload mechanic and the general speed, slows your progress and ups the difficulty. The last of these levels has a lot of enemies who can take a number of hits and throw large projectiles at a high rate. Oh, and you have a life bar but only one life. You'll get killed and have to the level over a number of times. The final level has no gunplay, just a race against time to. Memorizing the route, making tricky jumps with dodgy collision or fast-moving platforms, outrunning boulders.
The two 3D levels on horseback are all right, kind of fun, a little frustrating that you can be insta-killed and have to restart. When you get shot off your horse, he'll drag you along, and you can keep shooting and even win the level. Only it won't register that you won, so when you die, you have to manually restart the level. An aggravating bug, and not the only one.
You know what most people who play fast-paced arcade games want? A long, difficult, and sloooow stealth level smack dab in the middle of the game, one with only one checkpoint and instant failure if you're spotted. This exercise in agony on its own would be enough to ruin the game for a lot of people. I spent over an hour and a half learning weave betwixt those dozens of guards whose patterns of movement sometimes line up differently, meaning luck comes into play.
The final boss also requires luck, as far as I can tell. He has powerful attacks, some of them impossible to dodge and some of which will hit you twice simultaneously, if they feel like it! The strategy reduces to constantly shoot him and pray that, of his several available attacks in his first phase, he randomly chooses the ones that you can dodge or deal relatively little damage until you get him to his next phase. In other words, plenty of the times you face him, you can't win. Another tedious and frustrating roadblock.
Beating the game unlocks a new campaign, which seems to be the same levels with a new character. One who can't aim his gun. Meaning you can't even beat the first level.
The game could have been fun and accessible to a much larger audience. It's got a story, nice 3D-rendered graphics, those levels on horseback, and—it's a western run-n-gun! There are neat moments. In the side-view levels, enemies on horseback charge up from far in the background and shoot at you as they pass, or when the bandits you previously are getting killed by the same undead monsters you're in the middle of fighting. The bugs, technical problems, and lack of customization or tutorials aren't what ruin Cursed West. It's these aforesaid design choices that leave me with little desire for another playthrough.
TL,DR: Game ain't worth the unnecessary frustration.
I love how you have to run away from a gunshot for like 10 seconds so that the bullet is low enough for you to jump over it, thats science for you.
The game has some moments that are so bad that it is funny, and funny is always a plus. But other than that i find nothing positive about the game. This thumb is down and up the bum.
ok, i will wait the update.
Speed of the game should be increased...pls.
Thanks
