I am 32 years old.

My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old.

When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing.

Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side.

With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay.

After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like.

Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends.

Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together.

Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that.

Thank you.

Farm Life: Natures Adventure is a free mobile app that's been dumped on Steam as a paid product, as if it was a real PC game (it's not)... it's a cash grab from greedy mobile devs. The mobile app is just an incredibly lame, shallow ripoff of Stardew Valley from a morally bankrupt mobile dev, keen to steal the ideas of others in the hope of scraping up a few pounds. The result is not a fantastic game, but more pollution on Steam that should never have been accepted on the store if Valve had a QA department.

What really surprised me most about this is that Google actually accepted this onto the Play store. I guess they had the work experience kit try his hand at QA. Curious footnote there, that guy now works at McDonalds scraping the grease out of deep friers with his fingernails. They don't let him touch any tools or equipment after they found out he was the guy at Google who let this garbage onto their app store. He just can't be trusted.

Anyway about the game... it's truly terrible, on par with the other garbage from this developer. For starters it doesn't actually work, the interface is basically so unpolished it's largely incomplete. The developer couldn't work out how to put the mouse pointer in the foreground, so good luck clicking around the interface on this broken heap of trash. Let's go over some more defects. There's a lot, because this really, really is garbage.

From a technical perspective, as a mobile app, this doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.

A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result.

There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision.

The implementation here is of such poor quality, the developer couldn't work out how to make the mobile app display in fullscreen, it only runs in a window.

The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the mobile app unplayable for differently-abled gamers, or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts.

Because this is a mobile app, it carries a number of deliberate design deficiencies. Compromises were made to cater to the iPhones that the mobile app was designed for. These are unfortunate handicaps and limitations that PC gamers shouldn't be forced to accept, but it's evident that PC was an afterthought for the iPhone developers who are to blame for this. The mobile app is deficient as a result of these choices, and would have been so much better without the handicaps that designing games for mobile phones forces upon a game. Once more, mobile devs have made gaming worse for everyone. I didn't spend thousands on building a gaming rig just so I could pretend it's an iPhone.

Some of the defects in the mobile app can be attributed to the poor choice of using node-webkit/NW.js instead of a serious game engine. This is a very poor quality toolset for gaming, sometimes used by amateur developers as it doesn't require advanced game development skills, but unfortunately has very limited capabilities because it's primary function for games is to make simple HTML/browser/simple mobile apps rather than full fledged PC games (and given we are here for PC games, you can see why this is a problem). Just as you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, you can't make a great video game if you use a terrible engine.

These technical defects push this mobile app below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.

You don't have to take my word about how bad the mobile app is, we can measure the interest in a game by how much people bothered to play it. Farm Life: Natures Adventure has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the mobile app absolutely failed to capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for completing the tutorial, trivial to achieve, but less than 3 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the mobile app. That's a tiny, tiny proportion of gamers who even bothered with this. Ouch.

Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this mobile app was with players reveals a surprise... there's a very healthy spike in player counts for the mobile app. But this isn't consistent with the achievement stats, that show less than 3 percent of players bothered playing the mobile app for any reasonable amount of time. How is it possible for this mobile app to have so many concurrent players who didn't bother to played the mobile app? Trading cards. People will use card idling software to collect the cards and sell them, but this won't trigger any achievements in-game.

That tells us people only really bought this mobile app for trading cards, and that's a damning indictment of the woeful quality. A closer look at the numbers shows the mobile app just has a couple of players every week running up the mobile app and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many mobile apps like this, with no merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards.

Once more we see greedy mobile devs trying to scam PC gamers. On Steam, this is $1 USD, on app stores, it's free. Mobile devs must learn PC gamers are not here to be gouged, and can't be expected to pay a premium for a free mobile app just because it's been lazily dumped on Steam. This is unacceptable disrespect for PC gamers. Because this can be played free elsewhere, and because of the other defects, it's impossible to recommend. Who do they think we are?

I played this on my other Steam account and system, given it won't work on this system for some reason. Not sure why, but it's probably due to a conflict as a result of having installed so many games onto this system. Worked flawlessly on a fully updated Windows 10 system.

The game itself is rather simplistic but functional. It's a farming game. You can have animals, fish, and grow crops. There are light RPG elements and towns. You can play with more than one player. It resembles something between BYOND and RPG Maker as far as graphics are concerned, I didn't find any features that didn't work.

It's definitely no Stardew Valley or Sun Haven but for being a budget title, it'll offer those into this style of farming game a bit of enjoyment. It's definitely a middling game but I enjoyed it for what I paid. A very weak recommend.

Tutorial cut out and nulled halfway through, I restart the game and am unable to use any tools. All the events that took part in the tutorial appear to remain persistent despite numerous restarts to try to clear the issue. not worth seeking rectification.

Game controls are fine but inventory management is extremely unwieldy and being unable to move on angles makes movement very unintuitive.

Avoid this game, the low pricetag is no justification.

Poor little games getting a lot of hate for the price, it's small, cute, and what you see is what you get, pretty good deal in my opinion for 2-3 bucks. The dev stated he's married, working, and trying to implement patches, which he's already done at least one since it launched. From what I've read on the devs post there is no "win" it's nice relaxing sandbox, so kick back enjoy the fun on the farm and get that break you deserve.

A decent game inspired by Harvest Moon. The developer's love for his game is clear, and they quickly fixed many of the game-breaking issues and even the minor graphical glitches. There's very little negative I can say, and not a lot stands out either, but there is much promise. The game does have a reasonable amount going for it on a basic level:

-NPC interaction, marriage
-fishing (the fish are actually visible and spawn in different areas)
-easy to navigate UI with pretty pictures and color-coded seeds bags for easy distinction
-quickselling crops via a collector box
-you can make your pet follow you, like, everywhere
-crops behave differently and take different lengths of time to grow

And it is pretty cheap considering it has at least all the functionality of an older Harvest Moon title. So the question is: is there room for multiple games inspired by that series? If your answer is yes, then this will probably be fun to play!

i first got this game on android last year, you can tell alot of work went into it but the android app had touch screen issues i couldn't get past so i didnt play much. then today i found out it was on steam for $2 sale and i had $2 left over from a gift card i earned through swagbucks so bought it.

here's how it's better than android version- the controls! oh my gosh i can use my controller and i love how its so much easier to navigate! and it seems the speed of your character has been fixed a bit, i don't overshoot when i try to go somewhere anymore so very happy on that!

here's the bad sadly because you can tell this game developer put alot into it- time needs to pause when anything in the rucksack or menu. time should pause while talking also. if those were fixed there would be plenty of time during the day to get things done.

i don't know if it has auto save, but with the way the game does the weird freeze where you can move and nothing else it should have auto save for now, maybe optional to turn on and off.

i like this version better than the android app and look forward so much to see it improve!

i recommend this game because i believe the developer will make it a good game if not great. it has the potential if you can get past the basic graphics. but for $2 or even $2.99 it's not that bad of a game.

Poorly optimised android port and/or an unfinished port. But as not in early access approach this as a full game.
Way too buggy, including game ending faults at the moment. Not sure the game will contain enough levels to even compete within the genre with the gameplay coming across as cookie cutter. The engine feels clunky and delayed.
The fun of the game is not coming from challenge or story for me.
The tutorial shouldn't even exist as it explains the easier sections of the game, then does not even touch on the more complex areas and the help files aren't helpful.
Not full controller support with some menus needing you to use the mouse. Creating a weird flick between.
Clicks per action is way too high, adding extra tedium to each part of the game.
Game ending fault (biggest one) when the game stops you using any controls other then move, it happened 7 times within an hour each time I had to reload the game.

I didn't expect much from a two dollar game. And I got less than expected. The controls were buggy and hard to use, the navigation very hard, especially in the town, and while exploring the town I found the conversation with every townsfolk was either a) 'You're the new owner of ____ farm?' or b) 'Oh, you're the owner of that dirty farm. I want nothing to do with you!' or along those lines.

Really, it needs some serious work. Then it might be worth the money to spend on it.

If you're looking for Stardew Valley, skip the stop labelled "Farm Life", and head straight to your destination.

This game appears to be a mobile game ported very badly to PC. The controls are unbelieveably clunky, tools activated with Z and X, movement with WASD, (unable to remap).

First stop for me was the options screen: Fullscreen is merely an icon with no text, and the music didn't turn on until I manually toggled it. Music is a single looping track, and while pleasant at first, gets unbelievably tedious after a few minutes.

Character "customization" is: male/female, dress in blue/hot pink. The initial setup could definitely use some work: it feels like I'm filling in a database when starting the game: naming character, farm, town, pet, etc.

On to the Tutorial... it's very bizarre: you are instructed to choose a tool and then you are told that you're too young to use it x3.... same with the animal feeding. Only a look at the Control options gave a clue as to how to actually use the tools.

Object collisons are clunky as well -- what looks like space is blocked, etc. Talking to the townspeople got boring fast... they ALL started with the same line... "Are you the new owner of Greenleaf Farm?"

After going to the store and buying some seeds, I went back to my farm for planting.

Plowing the soil consists of moving your character over the square, and pressing X. Move to the next square, press X, then press X again, because it didn't take the first time, then press X twice because it still didn't work. Now it worked, but you have plowed and unplowed the square...

Your toolbar consists of only 2 items, making it very tedious to try and plant multiple seeds. (You have to dig into the menu again and again to grab a new type of seeds). The delay in X working is real, and the aiming of moving the character over the square is a bit tedious.

The rest of the tool use items react similarly -- watering, mining, etc. Always a small delay before you can use the item.

I fast-forwarded a few days so I could see my crops grow. They perked up around day 4. I decided that I should go mining.

The train is a very cute addition and I enjoyed the ride. When I got to the mining locale, I again suffered the annoyance of the digging being delayed and delayed.

At this point I experienced a game-breaking bug. After I tried to go down 1 level in the mine, I was no longer able to use any controls, and thus unable to get back home.

After considering that the game only saves when you go to bed, I thought about the tediousness of replaying that day, and said no, I have no desire to do this again.

Pros:
+ Cute graphics, especially the town & animals

Cons:
- Pleasant but insufficient music
- Terrible controls
- Boring dialogue
- F12 (screenshot) brings up a debugging console. (Thus no screenshots!)
- Tutorial is dreadful
- Game-breaking bug doing something simple. (This game is not labeled as EA!)

Overall: go to Stardew. I cannot recommend this game until it gets some serious improvement in the playability department.
