I actually played this game on the Nintendo switch but there were a ton of bugs on the switch (despite that I played through the entire game twice) so I bought a copy on steam. As a matter of fact... I bought a steam deck so I could play My time at Sandrock! There was a bundle deal so why not get another copy of portia.
My time at Portia is the first installment of the "My time" series, initially I had trouble getting in to the game in the beginning, on the 2nd attempt I was absolutely hooked. The characters in My Time at Portia are very lovable! In fact I think the characters in my time at portia are a little more interesting than sandrock though I love both games.
I'm completely in love with Gust and my big oversized pink pet cat. Recommend.
The game keeps crashing, I loose progress and have to re-do stuff . Very frustrating.
This line of games has turned into one of my favorites to play! The setting is well though out and the mechanics are very enjoyable.
The game is super enjoyable to unwind. It loads a bit slow at first but once the game is open it's not an issue
Honestly I adore the sequel (My Time at Sandrock) and I'm glad I gave it a chance, but I've tried so hard to get into My Time at Portia, several times across different platforms, and it is just so bad lol. You can see the potential everywhere, but the execution is just not there--it's janky and grindy, it's not fun, the writing is nowhere near up to the fantastic level achieved in Sandrock, and the designs and character models are just SO poorly realized. I know the developers floated the idea of possibly remaking Portia one day, which I would love to see. For now, if you're just getting into this series, my suggestion is to skip Portia, get Sandrock, and look forward to Evershine.
The movement lags weirdly, you keep running for a minute after you stop holding the key down. I think it may have been designed for controller, and the port to mouse and keyboard wasn't perfect. Also, quests can be picked up at the builder guild, and must be turned in within a limited number of days, but I think they have to be turned in to the NPC the quest is for ... so in order to do Any quests, you have to memorize the schedule and habits of every NPC in town.
The main menu screen has an equal amount of space dedicated to advertising two other games and some DLC, as it does all of the actual menu options put together.
It just...leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
The crafting itself feels good. The minimap is very pretty, but I wish I could make it big enough to see any detail. The NPC's are interesting, if stereotypical -- don't expect any of them to act like human beings, but they're very strongly characterized tropes. IE, the pink-haired thin young man who loves fashion, wears a magnificent glittery coat, twirls in place a lot, and giggles frequently. Or the giant muscular blond man that flexes constantly, is twice the height of any other character, and refers to everyone else as small. Some of the in-game tutorial text written by your character refers to your character as male, regardless of if you are playing a woman.
In-game days pass a little quickly, even after turning the speed down to half. The amount of stuff you can get done in a day is very limited, due to your character's stamina.
It feels like it could use some polish.
For me this is a worthy successor in my library to Stardew Valley. Lots of stories and quests, and the crafting is not too heavy. Level progression seems a little slow and the incremental rewards are ok, but nothing that is a deal breaker for me. The time sensitive missions still give you lots of time to complete them. Very happy with this so far.
One of the games in my long line of "Stardew-alikes," My Time at Portia is a quirky builder's simulator with some resemblance to Stardew Valley - mainly, in setting up tasks that will take in-game days to finish, grinding for items in the mines, befriending and aiding the community, and exploring as new areas open up to you. I've enjoyed it a fair bit, though it didn't suck me in like Stardew did. I've heard a lot of good things about its sequel, My Time at Sandrock, and I intend to purchase that as soon as it goes on sale - edges rounded off, bugs smoothed out, etc. The bobblehead art style doesn't really appeal to me, and I turned off the voice acting - the lines were read so gormlessly, blandly upbeat, it was like a Bob the Builder episode - but aside from that, it did hook me long enough to get a fair distance into the game. I'd recommend it to others for certain, as a relaxing, exploring game.
Chill, honest, naive and at the same time — deep as heck.
What a joyful and wholesome experience. Everything and everyone is just where there should be, so even awful combat won't frustrate you that much.
Cool game, but it's also 700 hours I will never get back. Can't wait to try Sandrock.
best game ever. love the once a fortnight balls you can host. i also love the game makanics for fighting building and in genoral game play. dont buy the dlc they are shit. Love Cruha
I really had fun playing this game despite its flaws. The long timers for the farming/smelting/crafting didn't really bother me as it helped me to explore and enjoy other aspects of the game.
End game/Post-credit missions were a bit of a letdown, but overall, the ending for this game is satisfying imo.
A bit rough around the edges, but holds a lot of charm. The team is passionate and I'm super excited for MTAE!
Very fun to play. Music is calming
I LOVE THIS GAME!!! Hours of play time. I have this on the Switch Lite and hours upon hours of play time on it. Since this is an old game.. I recommend buying this when it is on sale.
Now that I have a Steam Deck I can experience this game all over again with different DLCs. So far this feels very nostalgic for me. After this, I am going to play My Time at Sandrock on my switch and hopeful do it all again on the Steam Deck.
Love this games and its series. I hope ya'll love this game like I did. Best advice going to any game - have low to no expectation when playing any game and let it just WOW you. You will find a gem and this game was a gem for me.
BTW, its rough at first because you have no idea what you are doing... but you will get the hang of it. Just play around, explore, and take your time (but not for time quests.. do those). lol
DLC WARNING FOR NEW PLAYERS: I'm thoroughly enjoying this game now, but I want to jump in here quickly to prevent other new players making the same mistake I did upon startup.
If you're picking up this game for the first time (which is more likely now that Evershine has been announced), and you purchase the DLC clothing bundle, you receive your new outfits via letter outside your workshop. If you're just starting your file, DO NOT OPEN THE CLOTHING RIGHT AWAY. There is a warning to not accept the clothing unless you have the inventory space, but it's easy to miss if you're just clicking through your mail.
You begin the game with a relatively small inventory that can be upgraded by purchasing extra slots. However, you don't start with enough gold to buy new inventory spaces. The DLC gives you plenty of outfit choices BUT, unfortunately, it's more than your Builder can carry out the gate. If you open your DLC mail right away, the outfits COMPLETELY CLOG YOUR INVENTORY. In other games, this wouldn't be an issue but in MTaP, there are several limiting factors here:
1. You can't abandon/drop DLC items
2. You can't sell/destroy DLC items
3. You can't gift DLC items
This results in a nearly unplayable start to your game. After looking online, the best fixes for this seem to be restarting from your last save or starting a new file completely if you don't HAVE a last save (like I did). There is *technically* a way around all this if you're stubborn and determined like me, but it's not practical. For those of you who might need it, I'll describe it here, but it's really more efficient to just restart:
With a full backpack, run far away from your mail box (out of auto-pick up range)
Open your inventory
Equip as many clothing items as you can (three), to free up some inventory spaces
Purchase a storage chest at Best Brother (Paulie's shop) or, if you can't afford one, collect the materials you need to craft a storage chest at your work table*
Place chest and put DLC items inside
*If, while collecting materials and/or building your storage chest your inventory fills up again, the chest will automatically drop to the ground when you craft it. To pick it up, move out of auto-pick up range again, open your inventory, and UNEQUIP one of the clothing items you put on earlier. It will drop to the ground because your inventory is full. Then, close your inventory screen and run back to your work table (in auto-pick up range of the storage chest ONLY), open your inventory, and equip a new clothing item to replace whichever one you removed. Exiting your inventory at this stage will pick up the storage chest.
For the Devs: A really simple fix for this would be to provide the DLC in its own storage chest. Otherwise, really love this game!
This is definitely my go too. I take a break for a while and always come back to my little town. This game is so much fun and so calming. The art work and story and the amount of things you can do in a day are awesome. Before you know it you are running back home with a few seconds before end of day. Great fun and you will find yourself visiting your little town often.
The game is absolutely amazing, right up until it crashes every time you try to play. Save yourself the frustration, wasted time and money. I wish I had.
Sincerely,
Someone who once called Portia my favorite game.
It's good fun, there are lots of things to do along side the main story line. I've enjoyed playing. If you liked Stardew Valley it's likely you'd enjoy this.
One of my favorite games since forever.
Fun to play, easy to understand, relaxing, cute artstyle. Actually very interesting lore if you get into it.
I played My Time at Sandrock first and really, really enjoyed it. So I decided to play My Time at Portia. Although I did not enjoy it at much as I did enjoy Sandrock, I did like Portia. I like the housing portion of Portia, as I often had difficulty with this mechanic in Sandrock. I did not care for the fact that I was limited to the amount of commissions I could take with no ability, (at least not that I ever figured out) how to increase the number per day. Everything else was awesome about Portia and I would play it again.
My time at Portia (and it's sequel My time at Sandrock) are easily my favorite cozy game. The lore is interesting and the story line is hilarious.
I love how you get to do a bit of everything you fight, you farm, you build (which is the main part of the game), you mine, you ranch, and of course you make friends and get married. The dates are all up to you as well as you have many date options.
I've played this on the play station before i bought it from steam so I've played quite a bit of this game and the game isn't one I'd say is a short game, but there's stuff to do even after you finish the game.
Fun game, it was the first one I played from Pathea and I enjoyed it a lot.
Still worth giving it a chance before jumping to Sandrock, because the next games have QoL improvements that could make playing this one afterwards a bit tedious.
GRINDFEST.
Basically a Low-Budget Animal Crossing, but No Scamming Racoons. 5/10
got it on switch. loved it. got it on puter. i didnt know it was possible to love it more but OH MY GOD its like a whole different game
Tried to like this, but the grinding is overkill to the point of it not feeling fun. Thought it would be a cozy game but many little things just felt annoying and too much.
I think a simple way to tell you how much I recommend this game is the following: my mom, wife, and I all got obsessed with it, and we're all very different gamers. This is a phenomenal game! Can't wait to try out Sandrock.
My Time at Portia has been quite a satisfying experience. The changing of the seasons also adds variety to the game, making it feel less repetitive as you advance. The quest system by its nature, provides a good piece of balance and reason, giving you something of interest to achieve. I must mention that I enjoy the fishing aspect, finding it quite soothing yet rewarding. To sum it up, they come together nicely to form a well-rounded game that I would recommend to gamers who are searching for an interesting life simulation game which offers a lot to do.
Always liked these types of games ever since childhood. I must admit I still prefer 2D pixel graphics but gameplay is gameplay. The game was pretty fun, even the grinding bits of it. The character design wasn't really my taste but I guess you can't find a perfect game anyway. I haven't bought the sequel yet and they are making a third one already. Gotta catch up soon.
I haven't gotten very far in the game yet, but I can tell the town has a rich and developed history that makes the game-play feel super immersive.
Mechanics are easy, art is beautiful and gameplay is fun
It is such a cute game and there is so much to do in it. The characters are unique in their own way too! Love it!
Personally I LOVE this game. It's like a 3rd stardew valley. Some of the mechanics are a little clunky but if you love cutesy building/farming sims, this is perfect. I can't wait to play the sequel once I've finished the game
A great and relaxing time, one of my favorite cozy games, There is a bit of jank, especially with the voiced dialogue, but the game is fun and the characters are all enjoyable, if not all are likeable. Totally worth getting, especially since the third game has just been announced.
I really like this game; I wish I could play it. I own it now for PC and Switch and it crashes regularly on both. Got a lot further on the pc edition before it started crashing every time. I’m sad I’ll never finish it, but no tweaking of settings has fixed the problem. Bought the switch edition on sale hoping it would work better but it works worse for sure. If y'all got any advice hit me up.
I did try to get into it, mechanics wise it's fine, it's just a very aesthetically unappealing game. I was hoping the animals would be more like actual animals, not goofy dressed up bugs. Seemed to be a lot of grinding to get to the good part too, but maybe that was just me. All personal taste, doesn't mean the game is bad, but very not for me
I enjoy this game! Can be a wee bit buggy at times but over all its a good time!
To think this is considered a competitor to Stardew Valley at the time is beyond me.
The visual style, the immediate emptiness of the land you're introduced to as a first impression, the awkward voice acting, the incredibly uncanny and unappealing character design, the non-existant/half-done mechanics, the complete lack of any direction the moment you're thrown in with very little explanation.. I could only last an hour, before I decided to give up on it.
It's a personal thing. I just cannot get into the game at all, I've tried a lot of times but it just doesn't hold my attention for very long, if at all. I'm glad others can enjoy the game, don't get me wrong, I just wish I could too. (Personal again, but the art style, I also cannot get into)
This game is SO ADDICTING I spend HOURS on it. It's like minecraft+thesims it's so much fun PLS PLAY I need more people knowing this game
I absolutely love almost everything about this game: from the story line, to some of the commissions or actions that have to be fulfilled, and other commissions that are options. Took me a bit to figure out how some things work, but all in all this is a great game. I'm not really pushing on social commitments in the game, and rather taking that as it comes, and focusing more on the missions, the story and the game in general.
EDIT: The game started crashing my system (Intel i5, GTX 1050Ti, 16Gb ram) to the point where I had to reinstall Windows. Long story short, other crashes also started happening with other games, and I finally got two bluescreens which led me to the real issue which was the game card driver!
I've reinstalled the game - and have as of now played for three-four hours with no issues, no crashes, no slowing down, etc.
I really like this game, and am happy that I have sorted out the issue (I hope and pray).
This game is pretty cozy, and doesn't make you think too hard. You start of building items and relationships, and eventually you get to the farming bit of this game. It runs smoother on Mac than it does on the Switch. Until you complete the tree farm quest that gets you resource deliveries, it does get a little grindy having to gather resources everyday. There are also relationship mechanics where you can romance some of the NPCs, if that's something you like. I have now bought this game twice for two different platforms, so that should tell you something.
I am finding it quite slow and a bit too repetitive already after only 16 hours. It is not unattractive and the characters are cute in a child's story book sort of way. There is a distinct lack of information about the game functions and interface and no tutorial. So, even though I would say that children might get more from this game than an adult, I cannot, because it would quickly frustrate most children. I have several other, very similar games with cute characters and relying on farming, mining and crafting but which are much more user friendly, more interesting and provide a more diverse environment. I purchased on special offer, so only £5 and still not worth the money imo.
This game felt special to me in a way many games from my childhood did.
Perhaps that's partly because it had all the jank of a gamecube game but I enjoyed this game thoroughly regardless.
I've put 100 hours into this game, I did not enjoy most of it. Had I played it during this time in my life where I still have a bunch of free time, but not infinite amounts, I would have probably dropped it.
I am a Harvest Moon fan, love Stardew Valley and love Runefactory. This game tries to replicate Stardew Valley but in 3D and fails horribly because of the developers main design philosophy.
Quanity of Quality.
There are so many features that work but feel unfinished or don't evolve beyond what they are the first time you experience them.
NPC's are bland. Have you played any farming sim game at all? The characters in farming sims are some of the most important additions to the farming sim genre. Living a simple daily farming life while getting to know the people around you better is THE APPEAL to the genre. Why is every NPC interaction the same, I can box them for 2 friendship points, I need like 500+. A lot of their dialogue is repeated. I've never played a farming sim and not wanted to interact with NPC's.
Mining for resources and artefacts. Beyond upgrading my pickaxe there is nothing I can do to make the process better? Every mine is the exact same except it has different stuff in each of them.
The game is suprisingly little about farming and more about getting the right resources in time in preperation for future projects, so why is the way you get these resources always the same but a little bit faster?
Combat and dungeons are bland. Just keep spamming attack on an enemy and you will win, no matter what weapon you're using.
Festivals are boring. Can't blame them for it tho, the majority of festivals are boring in farming sims, only Runefactory and Stardew Valley have done a good job with them from the ones ive played.
A lot of different features, the quality of each and every one of them is fine at best. That is what you will experience with My Time at Portia, My Time at Sandrock and probably also in the future with My Time at Evershine.
One of the heavy hitters in my cozy gaming lineup. The characters are lovely and fun to get to know, there's lots to learn, but nothing is too complicated so as to stress you out. Demands to be played with a hot drink and fluffy socks.
My Time At Portia Review
Our game takes place in a town called Portia. After creating the character we control on a simple creation screen with options that are not very detailed but very suitable for the texture of the game and giving it a name, we enter the town. Portia is the town where our character's father lived and died. We have a workshop here from our father. After meeting all the residents and introducing ourselves in this small and cute town where we first came from the outside world, we get the necessary permissions from the municipality to run our workshop and thus the story of our game begins. The world of the game is actually a new post-apocalyptic world, there are dangerous factories and buildings left over from the old modern times around the map. In a sense, the producers have built a utopia on the destroyed modern world. This cute and small town, which lives on agriculture and animal husbandry, has taken the place of the old civilization that was regrouped and destroyed by technology. Throughout the game, you find pieces and disks left over from the old civilization while digging in the mines. You can use these pieces in your workshop and make useful tools.
Choices and Results
There are two sides in the game that represent science and beliefs and have very different views on the old (modern) civilization. One of them is the church and the other is the scientists. The church absolutely rejects old technology. It claims that the modern society that lived and disappeared in the past caused great harm to nature and itself due to technology and that all kinds of objects and tools left from that society should be destroyed and that this way we can protect the town and nature from the same fate. The scientists in the science workshop of the town think completely the opposite. According to them, the remains of the old civilization can help us with very useful inventions and innovations that will make life easier today. They think that we should research and evaluate all of them. With your arrival in this town, these old technology pieces somehow turn into new inventions that will help the townspeople.
The game structure will not force you, on the contrary, it has an entertaining gameplay. Especially the music does not bore you, normally the game music playing in the background would bore me after a while, but I did not feel this at all in my time at portia and although I have a habit of turning off the music from the settings after a while, I did not feel the need in this game where I spent long hours.
Return to Father's House
Our aim in My Time at Portia is to improve our relations with the people in this town we have just returned to, which is our father's house, and to help the town develop by producing in our workshop. At the same time, we are trying to be the first in the competition between workshops in the trade guild in the town. After each task you successfully complete from the townspeople, the town also develops and you see it with your own eyes, for example, when you build a sprinkler and irrigation system for a townsperson's field, his field is now watered with that system. Or when you manufacture dee dees and stops for transportation in the town, these are always permanent. There is a world that changes and is affected in real time as a result of the tasks you complete in My Time at Portia. I must admit, despite the many positive comments I have read, I had a prejudice in the beginning due to the childish graphics. I said, I am faced with a simple game that is made to entertain small children and does not appeal to those over the age of 9. However, as I played the game, its immersive structure and detailed gameplay gave way to curiosity and wondering what will happen the next day after the first few hours.
You have a calendar in My Time at Portia. This calendar occasionally adorns your crafting and resource gathering routine with very fun activities. This is actually the part of the game that appeals to players of all ages. There are constantly festivals, celebrations and competitions in Portia. You can register and participate in these events, and if you are successful in the event, you can buy special items from the markets special for that day. This event traffic never ends throughout the year, so you are not stuck in the cycle of constantly producing something in your workshop. You are curious about the next day and the new tasks or events that will come. In this way, the game keeps the player's curiosity constantly alive.
There are many things you can do in Portia. You can help the townspeople by taking daily tasks from the Trade Guild, or you can take your pickaxe and collect resources in the abandoned mines in the town. You can kick big trees and try to make apples and honey fall, hunt pink llamas that you cannot bear to hit and collect their fur and meat. You can improve your house and workshop with the gold you earn, learn more complex designs and produce them. You can increase your health, attack, defense, etc. features by placing items you find or produce in your home and workshop. In this way, you can decorate your home and garden according to your own taste. You can build structures such as coops or barns, raise chicks, ducks or cows and buy their meat and milk or raise and sell them.
Portia is a World Living with Seasons with a Day/Night Cycle
Portia also has a day and night cycle and a seasonal cycle. The game is recorded daily and only automatically saves when you sleep. Other than that, you cannot save the game externally. You have to finish all your work by 03:00 at the latest. After 3, your character faints and you wake up to a new day in your bed.
The game also has features such as marriage and having children. Your relationships with the characters in the town increase as you talk to them, give them gifts or finish the quests you receive. Participating in events in the town is of great importance. When you participate in these events, your relationships with all the townspeople automatically increase. In addition, many events give you resources, ores and items as gifts. So be sure to follow the events on your calendar, these festivals also open the in-game cinematic scenes, you can find the number of these cinematics in the tabs on the character screen.
In My Time at Portia, you will spend time collecting plenty of resources and producing new tools in your workshop. In the meantime, you will need to deal with the town's problems and do the tasks they need. The game's Turkish support is your biggest helper in understanding the crafting system, which may seem complicated at first. Being in Turkish is also a great advantage for young players to understand the game. The things you will need most to develop your workshop in Portia are data disks. Data disks are CDs as we know them. Although they have largely been replaced by portable USB sticks today, these data disks were the things that the ancient civilization in the game stored the most information. We can collect data disks while digging in abandoned mines. When you take these disks to the scientists in the town, they research the data in them for you and give you new tool designs that you can produce in return. Thus, your workshop develops, you can process more ore and produce different tools. If you take these disks you find to the church workers, you can buy some products from their market in exchange for the disks or you can deliver them to destroy the disks and get gold in return. My suggestion is to definitely collect these disks from the beginning of the game and take them to Petra. Petra will decipher the data in the disks and give you the designs of new tools that you can produce and need to do the tasks in return.
That's all I have to say about the game
Thank you for reading, I hope you learned about the game, have fun!
This game was abandoned and the devs did not even bother to finish this and made a second game. Now, they are making a third game and will most likely abandon both. Do not waste your money on these series.
Had promise but didn't get the treatment it deserves due to company greed to abandon the game for a unnecessary sequel. said sequel is getting abandoned for another sequel. Also used AI for the 3rd games promotional announcement. Play literally anything else.
Honestly, I thought I’d just be building some simple stuff... but here I am trying to plant carrots, fix an entire town, and, oh, chase after pink llamas that are giving me funny looks .
Between two broken pieces of furniture and three ridiculous errands, I’m realizing that I’m becoming an entrepreneur, farmer, archaeologist... and part-time llama tamer !
