Achivments simulator, probably still have notifications about them, highly recomended, the best experience ever, beautiful deep story OwO

Absolute garbage. Asset flip³. I dont understand how this made it onto Steam.
Im on a quest of at least trying every game in my library, of which I got plenty from all kinds of bundles, not all though. If you are interested in my journey, check out my other reviews :)
There's something strangely charming about the goofy, disjointedness of a game like Dinosaur Forest. Despite the fact that it's not a very good game, it's still surprisingly entertaining - at least for the time it takes to finish it. I expect though that If i was planning to play it any longer, that charm would likely fade into boredom. Still, it was decent fun while it lasted.

Exceptionally bad low effort asset flip. The "developer" has reused this same generic, buggy asset/template many times. Here's at least three examples: 1 2 3
Warning: Asset Flip!
Dinosaur Forest is a Digital Homicide style asset flip, or what Valve calls a "Fake Game". The "developer" paid for/pirated a few Unity asset store packs, dumped them all in a blender, and submitted it to Valve as if they're real game developers.
Two notable criteria for what makes an asset flip instead of legitimate use of stock assets are whether those assets comprise the majority of the game, and whether the "developer" properly credited the people who created most of the assets in the game. This game fails both of those tests. The "developers" here didn't credit any of the artists and real, actual game developers who created the assets here, so this is plagiarism, as well as cash grab shovelware.
In this case, the asset flipper took a bunch of Unity dinosaur assets from the asset store and dumped them on a very basic forest map with the Unity FPS engine, a pointless asset flip where you just run around and shoot dinosaurs. It has no value or merit as a real game.
ANPA.US/Racing Bros have shown a repeat pattern of unethically dumping other people's work onto Steam as a cheap, nasty cash grab, through this account or through closely linked/alt accounts. Here's some examples so you can see for yourself:
- "District 112 Incident: Bowling Alley" = Starter Kit #1 Bowling Kit developed by Inane Game
- "My Golf" = Mini Golf Ball Game Kit developed by XBR Studios
- "Darts and Friends" = Starter Kit #1 Darts Kit developed by Inane Game
- "Simple Sailing" = Sailing Regatta developed by Blab Dev SA
[*] "My Bingo" = Brilliant Bingo Kit developed by Rumyancev Pavel
Taking this shovelware seriously as if it was a genuine attempt to make a game, it doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
While the graphics look okay, the developer weirdly decided to lock the number of resolution options you can get... now, if you have a modern GPU, you'll probably get a bunch of superresolution options (to render the game at a higher resolution than your monitor... brute forcing AA if you like), and these are the only options that appear, because the developer decided there's no need for you to scroll through the resolutions available to you. The upshot? You can't set the game to your monitor native resolution. Now, if you're gaming on a CRT, that's fine... but come on, everyone uses a fixed resolution LCD or OLED monitor nowadays. That kind of screwup from the developer isn't acceptable.
The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
Dinosaur Forest didn't appeal much to the people who own a copy of the game, either. It has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game didn't really capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for starting the game, trivial to get, but less than 23 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. Hardly a success story, gamers just weren't all that interested in the game.
Speaking of achievements, one of the driving elements of this shovelware game is "achievement spam", that is to say the game features a ridiculously large number of trivial/automatically granted achievements, 1317 of them, in fact. It's a damning indictment for this shovelware that people only bought it for easy achievements, and not because it has any serious merit as a real game.
Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a very healthy spike in player counts for the game. But this only happened once, around the same time that trading cards were applied to the game... so this is just card idlers getting their cards and moving on. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with no merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards.
It's also important to note the "developer" here has connections to a number of shady Russian asset flippers and review manipulators who show an organised pattern to scam and defraud gamers with fake reviews and asset flipping the work of others for profit. While reviews are about the games, gamers should be informed when developers act unethically. Whether these connections are the same developer using multiple accounts, or just working closely with other unethical developers, gamers should be warned about the harm to gamers by this developer and their associates. Buying games from unethical developers puts your money at risk.
So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam?
Dinosaur Forest is relatively cheap at $1 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, and the questionable ethical nature of the developer and/or their associates (as outlined above), this is impossible to recommend. Remember that if you buy a game from an unethical developer, you're putting your money at risk.
