In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. God saw all that he had made, and it was good. Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
'Ooops,' said god, seeing he had created a fool. But before he was able to remedy his error, man spoke;
'No backsies!' he chirped, and scuttled off into the forest.
About
Four Last Things is a point-and-click adventure game made from Renaissance-era paintings and public domain recordings of classical music. It is about sin, and the Four Last Things – Death, Judgement, Heaven and Hell – and strives to be intelligent and ridiculous in equal measures.
It's kind of like if Monkey Island had been made in 16th century Flanders, by a time-travelling Monty Python fanboy...

Monty Python, Monkey Island, classical music, paintings. This was a very fun and short thing. I fully intend to purchase and play all of his other games now.
Very short, but sweet.
Mechanically, it's a fairly traditional point-and-click adventure, but the use of Renaissance art visuals and diegetic classical music give Four Last Things an identity all its own. Thou shalt LOL.
Such a unique, fun, scandalous little game. So well made! 5 Stars. Would sin again.
Four Last Things – A Renaissance Riot
Four Last Things is like Monty Python stumbled into a medieval art gallery and couldn’t stop cracking jokes. It’s absurd, clever, and hilariously irreverent.
Four Last Things is a charming game full of point-and-click witty, religious dark humor that's built off of Renaissance-era art and music. Unfortunately, as a sinner, you must commit all of the 7 deadly sins again in order to be granted the right to confessions before you encounter the four last things: Death, Judgement, Heaven, or Hell. 6/10
Like another of your games, this one is funny too!
As a kid in museums I would always imagine myself in the paintings I was watching, It was always an interesting experience as sometimes you would have proper Heaven and Hell scenarios like Hieronymus Bosch. Where pain and suffering was so easily visible next to the far reaching paradise that is heaven. It's a chaos that this game recreates, and I never thought a point & click game could not only be this good, but be this interesting. It's a genuine fun experience that showcases and recreates art in a liveable sense I haven never seen before.
Funny, sarcastic and a little bit mean. Happy sinning!
Just finished the game, loved it! A little but of a puzzle wrapped up in comedic writing about Christianity, short and sweet.
Quick game, but enjoyable
This is a fun little point-and-click game made with plenty of charm. It’s just the right length, avoiding the frustration that can come from too many complex puzzles. The main objective is simple: commit the seven deadly sins and confess them to the church.
The game doesn’t overwhelm you with too many areas, making it manageable without feeling repetitive. You’re given a limited set of items, and unlike some other point-and-click games, you won’t find yourself trying every item on every object just to progress. The key is to focus on committing the sins, and if you ever feel stuck, simply move on to the next sin (they’re somewhat interconnected).
Be aware that you can miss certain achievements, but I recommend playing through the game first and using a guide afterward to collect them. The intro is brief, so you can quickly jump back in and focus on the missed achievements.
My only real complaint is that some areas are easy to overlook. There were two locations in the back alley that I only discovered after consulting a guide.
Overall, it’s a short, satisfying game with a clever concept and a good balance of puzzles. I’d recommend it for fans of the genre looking for a short, enjoyable experience.
So much fun.
calling this a masterpiece is a tad bit pretentious
I started with "The Procession to Calvary", the second game in the series and pretty much an amazing piece of art, and I must admit that Four Last Things is a bit of a warmup in comparisson. Shorter, more humble, not as funny, and just not as powerful in general - but it was still fun, and it's surprising to see how well did Richardson manage to estabilish his unique style so early on.
LOVE. Feels like this was made for me specifically. A click and point game with a healthy dose of stupid? Art and Music? I'm obsessed with this game and its sequels.
First time in my life I literally solve a puzzle by being AFK while drinking my tea.
silly game, what more is there to say
Hilarious love letter to the renaissance art. Kudos to the dev!
A humorous and quirky adventure. Visually stunning, and rather compact, easily finished in a few hours time. Some of the puzzles are a tad tricky, but the game sets you up without much hassle. Absolutely worth checking out.
Listen. Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.
Short and charmingly funny point and click game making great use of classical art. Good puzzles with only a couple logical leaps I had to look up (mostly I knew what to do—just not how many times I had to do it in some cases).
enjoyable point and click game, though i was expecting it to be longer. my one critique is that, while i understand our protagonist is a sinner, not allowing me to feed/pet the stray dog was truly the most egregious sin of all.
charming as it is, pick it up on sale. i dont think id pay full price for how short the experience was. i did also have to look up a hint just because i didnt realize you could pick up the jug by the landowners because of how it blends in with the rest of the artstyle. i think having a stronger way of differentiating what items you need from the environment would prevent players from mindlessly clicking everything in sight in case its a collectible (but would also cut down the games runtime, i imagine.) so i guess thats 2 critiques!
I don't get the hype. I was attracted by the art, but it turned out to be just another silly humour game. Very disappointing.
Wonderfully bizarre little puzzle game. You can figure out most of the puzzles, although there were a couple of logic leaps that I couldn't quite make without looking them up. Very amusing as long as you aren't too uptight about religion.
This game is a piece of art, I was always stopping to watch the scenes and the artstyle and the music is really nice as well. Very pleasant experience
Sharp-witted, smart, not too obtuse, and short enough that it doesn't overstay its welcome. I played through this game with a friend in a restaurant and we had a fun couple of hours.
The Four Last Things is a short but original point-and-click adventure, so accordingly, my review will be as short.
Usually, we frown on reuse of assets in video games, but Four Last Things (Death, Judgement, Heaven, and Hell) cleverly repurposes medieval (and even Goya-esque) artwork, presenting each scene as a static tableau, paired with a Baroque and Renaissance musicians, to creates a beautiful and immersive atmosphere.
Whilst the gameplay is simple, the puzzles are engaging, and the fourth-wall-breaking humour does not feel out of place in this fantastical .
Despite its brevity, I expect that this game will leave a lasting impression.
Maybe wait for a sale, full price is a bit steep for the length of the game.
Played on Linux.
Yet another time where I wish there were more possibilities for the recommendation than just "yes" or "no".
This is truly a beautiful game, visually as well as musically. It's full of Monty-Python-esque humor.
Sadly, I can't recommend it due to its barely veiled vitriol against Christ. If you are a neo-atheist, you'll love this game for this, but it crosses the line from humorously irreverent into cynically spiteful. The gripes with God are the typical misleading strawman caricatures that delight so many who had bad experiences in church growing up, or who spend a good part of their lives rebelling against authoritarian religious parents.
So yes, play it for the raucous, bawdy, beautiful, hilarious game that it is, but discard the anti-Christian mockery.
Really enjoyed this game. It was a pleasant surprise because I was not expecting it to be so funny and entertaining at such a good price. I now own the 2 sequels of this game and im so excited to finish them.
Ive literally pushed my entire backlog to the side to make space for this trilogy.
You simply have to play it.
Four Last Things takes you on a whimsical journey through a surreal world crafted from Renaissance paintings, where even the angels are caught off guard by the shenanigans that unfold. Picture a point-and-click adventure where Hieronymus Bosch and Hieronymus Karl Friedrich von Münchhausen could have shared a paintbrush and a joke or two.
The puzzles in Four Last Things are as straightforward as a devil's deal, yet wrapped in a Renaissance aesthetic that would make Da Vinci grin with approval. It's a short but sweet escapade, packed with enough classical adventure game tropes to make any seasoned player feel right at home.
As you navigate through this bizarre realm, you'll find yourself chuckling at the clever wit that echoes the comedic genius of Monty Python. The art direction in this game is a masterpiece, a tapestry woven with the threads of Renaissance mastery and Terry Gilliam's twisted dreams.
In Four Last Things sin and satire collide in a glorious mess of artistic anarchy. Prepare to have the fourth wall shattered into delightful shards as the characters deliver lines that make the angels in Heaven blush with laughter.
A short but very unique point and click adventure game. I also appreciate the developer putting down most of the paintings they used, 'twas interesting to see what artwork went into making this game and further looking around different rennaisance artists.
Four Last Things feels like wandering into a medieval painting and finding out everyone’s secretly unhinged. The game combines gorgeous Renaissance artwork with a completely ridiculous sense of humor. Your goal? Commit all the sins you can because apparently, bureaucracy even exists in heaven.
The puzzles are clever without being frustrating, and the solutions usually have you thinking, "Wait, can I really do that?" Spoiler: you can, and it’s hilarious. The humor is spot-on if you’re into weird, Monty Python-style absurdity.
It’s a short game, but that works in its favor—just the right length to enjoy the quirky vibe without it overstaying its welcome. If you’re looking for something different, funny, and surprisingly smart, Four Last Things is an absolute gem.
Awesome visuals, fine gameplay, good but a bit too repetitive music
Very short but was very cheap on sale
This game is PAINTfully funny and delightful.
If you're a fan of Monty Python's Flying Circus, get this game.
If you're not, become one, and get this game anyway.
(The story is great, the gameplay is fantastic, and the game is delightfully silly.)
A silly game, that is also a bit silly when it comes to screen appearance.
Really enable point and click experience which captures all the quirkiness of renaissance art. Very different, creative, atmospheric, silly and funny. Definitely recommend!
This is a short but fun game. The art and the music are so so good!
funny writing and fun puzzles (got stuck but skill issue lol) also RENAISSANCE ART!!
Short and sweet, following in the same way as the previous title but more tightly designed, with less frustrating dead ends.
Had more fun with this game than I thought. I was constatly laughing. Thanks devs for this masterpiece. Looking forward to play more games from you.
Funny game, nice puzzles, original
It's a funny game and the art style is really fun. I love how artistic point-and-click games can be. Overall a very enjoyable experience!
Masterpiece, funny, beautiful, colorful, instructive
Short but fun - beautiful use of renaissance-era paintings! Well worth your $2.
As an art student who has written school reports of Hieronymus Bosch and other Renaissance artists, it thrilled me to no end seeing their art animated in such a fun and cheeky way. There were several times I became the “Leo Pointing” meme when seeing famous paintings I recognised in the art history books.
I appreciate the strong influence to the Monty Python humour and Terry Gilliam animations, but what really impressed me was the credit given to the original painters and musicians. Interacting with musicians will note what song they are playing, and the art gallery in town lists the paintings and artists that inspire the games’ characters and locations.
Bravo, Joe! I’m excited to play the rest of the triptych!
An absurd and cynical comedy for people that enjoy The Secret of Monkey Island, Monty Python, and Hieronymus Bosch.
I was intrigued by Death of the Reprobate and thought I'd give this one a try first. I loved it, fun puzzles and witty writing, plus ingenious use of medieval/renaissance art to create the world. Can't wait to play other titles from this creator.
