Staff it and watch your “minions” attempt to navigate through your hospital maze and solve all your patients’ troubles. As the administrator, you really do not need to care much about what your employees keep themselves occupied with on a daily schedule. You have much more important things to do, like taking big decisions and building the hospital.
Balance your next hospital expansion between what the hospital needs and what that is most profitable. Choose the right staff and manage the hospital policies. Do the patients need to be fully healed before the doctors discharge them, or will you discharge them early and get paid?
Send patients through your different hospital examinations and see if you or any of your doctors are able to identify the cause of their symptoms and give them the right treatment. Your doctors and nurses will often try to do their best, but as the hospital administrator, you can always overrule their decisions and modify all your patients’ journals.
Features
- Sandbox construction
- Hospital management
- Financial reports
- Diseases and treatments based on real life
- Doctors handbook
- Randomized missions
Every patient is affected by a unique combination of symptoms of different strength. Some are more obvious and easy to handle, while others are more challenging. Use the doctor’s handbook as a guide while trying to navigate the complex web of symptoms, illnesses and treatments.
Avoid malpractice, and become the best hospital administrator in the world!

so many bugs. i slogged through it trying my best to give it a go, but in the end, the game has too many bugs. poor optimization. abandoned.
Would have been fun if the dev put in more effort instead of abandoning the game. No updates for years.
Can not recommend it because it looks like it's never going to be finished.
Buy other games instead.
Years later no updates or hotfixes to deal with bugs, this game has been abandoned DO NOT BUY!!!
I am really sad, I had such high hopes for this game!
This is the third time i buy an early access game, and so far the devs all seem to abandon the game once their pockets are filled. Do not get this game, its buggy as hell and the devs arent updating it at all
I just checked to see what the company Illeris had to say about the progress on this game, and from what I could find it looks like they have moved over to do web design instead without ever letting the community know the game is abandoned, and probably also tricking more people into buying their unfinished buggy game.
They have also written on their webpage that the game is fully released and they have sold several thousand copies. If they feel like they were done with the game, either put it as released or remove it from steam as this is just a lousy way of treating your hopeful consumers.
Game has been abandoned. No update in over 2 years. Get Project Hospital if you want a game like this instead.
So much potential wasted.
It plays quite well and is fun for a few hours.
But its a dead game. No updates for a long time. It's a shame.
Do not buy a dead game! Especially not for this price!
It seemed like this game had so much promise. It was going to satisfy an itch that had lingered since Theme Hospital. However, this was posted today on their Discord by one of the developers:
"Basically, we don't have anyone to work on the game, so until then it's pretty much on hold. It sucks, but that's the gist of it :/"
It's sad, and given the other hospital management games that have been released in the last year, I doubt there will be much motivation to put any more work into this. Although it's relatively playable in it's current form, there are frustrating bugs that eventually kill the experience (expected, given that it's early access and never completed). Try "Two Point Hospital" if you're looking for the spiritual successor of Theme Hospital, or "Project Hospital" if you're looking for a more serious approach.
ABANDONED BROKEN GAME
A great idea but essentially dead. Last update September 2018. Really wanted to like this one, but lack of updates or bug fixes and very infrequent comments from developer except to claim game isn't dead mean I can't recommend it at any price.
As of July 2020, there are still no updates and game breaking bugs prevent the game from being enjoyable - you'll quickly reach a point where you can progress no further. Devs no longer even bother to claim that the game is in active development. I think we can assume from previous dev comments that "hiatus" is a euphemism for "abandoned".
If only they had the honesty and integrity to pull this broken mess from Steam instead of pretending it's a functional work-in-progress worth even 1/10th of the price they charge.
This game is a hot fucking mess. Do not waste your money, its bugged badly. Patients lose their way often and you have to manually send them to the right department at times, when expanding you have to go back and reset every room. This always breaks the UI and the patients get lost as fuck and you have to discharge them to clean out the errors. Sometimes rooms never reset and its just blacked out until the game catches up with itself and recognizes you made a room. There is no bulldoze tool for you have to click on on every piece you want deleted one at a time. Save games do not load so sometimes you might just lose two hours of play time on a file that will never load again. Their explenation is that its because of playing on different versions...So I tested the theory I started a new game played for 2 hours saved it then tried to reload, and never loads. The devs seem to care but I have seen little improvement in the actual product. Save your money for Two Point Hospital or the other Hospital title coming out. I feel like these guys played off the popularity of Rimworld and Prison Architech made a quick buck, and have put little effort into the product since its initial success. They missed and missed hard. Hopefully they get their asses in gear and clean up the coding, pathfinding issues and fix the game breaking save/load issues.
I've given Hospitalize some time before reviewing it, the game is still early access, the developers have made some progress, but still the game is half-baked idea for a game, have glitchy interface and it is hard to reach the data you need, not to mention the game needs loads and loads of testing...
pros:
- nice idea, sort of improved Theme Hospital
- creators did make some progress in last year
- options to set multi-purpose rooms (f.e. examination room and x-ray)
cons:
- game has no goal (after you reach some point in gameplay you have more money than you need and nothing to do)
- in some parts incomprehensible way of displaying data (f.e. all lists are scrolled, but list of patients is for some reason split into pages and you don't know on which page you are, you see exam rooms are not used or staff sits around do nothing, but you can't find out why nothing is happening)
- disastrous milestones concept (with each milestone you get more equipment and diagnosis, but it spoils the basic game concept since you know what illness it is, but you can't check the diagnose in the patient chart because this illness is not yet on your list)
- staff wander around and often can't find the quickest way to reach some point (f.e. instead of crossing two doors the staff leaves the building and makes the trip 10 times longer)
- patients are waiting in the corridors, examination rooms are empty, staff sits in the staff room and you have no tools to do anything about it (to check what the problems is, why they are waiting or to force the staff to do their job)
- some of the elements are only dummies that have no meaning at all (f.e. electronic door, toilets, decorations)
- some real-life basics are absent, f.e. sanitation (you can put flowers in the operating theatre, you can't separate sick from the cured, no pre or post-operation rooms), coordination (cleaners enter examination rooms or operating theaters while they are in use), tools and reports (you get info that patients are waiting too long, but can't do nothing about it since there is no clear data to spot the flaw in whole hospital operations),
- some strange limits to the rooms (f.e. I have large staff, so I built large staff room, 70 squares, but for the game the max size for staff room is 64)
I could expand that list, but I think you get the picture. The concept is good, but after a year of testing the game it is still in very early stage and it seems the creators did not thought through the basics of the game while developing the interface and gameplay. It might be good in the future, but I'm affraid not near future.
Unfortunately, in it's currently state, I can't recommend the game. It's in Early Access, although I understand it has been for a while, so I have hopes it'll improve.
Currently, there's a few bugs I just haven't been able to play around. Moving with W, A, S, D? Seems pretty straightforward, right? Nope, sometimes, the game will simply not respond to input. There's a supposed edge-scrolling feature as well, but all I've managed to achieve using that so far is the occasional twitch in a certain direction, at a very specific point at the screen, which isn't worth the effort of finding.
At the beginning, the tutorial was pretty much useless. You get a few short sentences of information, then you're left to it. Still not convinced I've figured it out. I'm not going to rate the game down for my potential stupidity, but am judging the lack of instruction/tutorial.
I was hoping this would be like Theme Hospital, but revamped so it's not 90s graphics and AI anymore, I was wrong. The AI will path randomly through walls. The graphics can glitch out quite randomly, in some very interesting ways.
The one good thing might be the idea. It's more realistic than Theme Hospital, with real symptoms for real illnesses. Unfortunately, the whole thing lacks a good execution.
I'll keep an eye on the progress of patches and updates though, maybe they'll allow me to pick this game up again, and perhaps enjoy it.
This game has a lot of potential and if the developer keeps going it is going to be awsome. As someone who works in an EMS setting for a small hospital it is fun to see some of the stuff I see in the day to day real life being shown here with some liberties in making it a game that is fun. This is a fun little tycoon game that let's you go as big or small and at your pace. Being in early aces it still fun with the occasional bug. But I would get this game if you like tycoon games.
This game shows potential for a fun game in the FUTURE, but having recently purchased it and played around for a while, I can already tell there's a long way to go and that sadly I havent taken to it like I have many similar games. Yes, I was hoping for a more modernised 90s Theme Hospital type game, and was excited that this game seemed to offer a more realistic (no bloaty head syndrome - actual routine and critical conditions that you get to aid in the diagnostic process!) take on that old classic. Regrettably, I can't see it developing into something remotely as entertaining as that any time soon. Given that it's almost a year since release, I would have expected to see a more established game with far fewer negatives.
My primary initial thoughts on this game were:
- Very basic interface in some ways, then other text-rich features that make jumping into the game quite complex/more so than it needs to be. WAY too easy to quit out of the game accidentally when you're just starting and cant navigate the controls/buttons.
- Frustrating user controls, edge scrolling/zoom features unsophisticated and laggy.
- For me, the graphics are just a little bit too unrefined. Not entirely down to the devs, obviously I had screenshots/previews prior to purchasing so I was aware of the style but in action it just lacked... the charm of traditional modern era pixel type games. A bit 'bleh' in terms of graphics quality and appeal as it's neither old-school cheery little pixel people, or edgy stylish characters. Additionaly the building process, staff actions and overall feel to the game is just rather slapdash. I dislike the building structure, the walls are hugely thick, obscure a lot of the visibility and don't make me feel like I'm building a hospital but a blocky square featuring a few bits of crammed furniture.
- DELETING things! Confusing, long and drawn out, menus all over the place clogging up my screen and my mind with their unwanted presence. Too much clicking...
- Sandbox?? I belived this was a sandbox game but either thats not an established feature or its way too hard to find. Either way, as soon as something requires me to follow (somewhat glitchy) tutorials, be reliant on before I've even started money, and unable to create as my heart desires, points are immediately deducted. As a lover of Theme Hospital, or virtually every tycoon game, a sandbox mode or money cheat is a vital part of my gameplaying experience. Without it, exploring is too much of a chore until I am ready to go campaign mode.
- £11.99 was not really worth my expense for what hasn't turned out to be endless hours of fun as I had hoped.
Don't mistake my criticism for idle dismissal of what is clearly a promising WIP from the developers and it is clearly satisfactory to some, or those who are willing to hang around for the gradual improvement, however I shall not be returning to playing this game for some time/if at all. Knowing that my review has been largely critical I do want to commend the following feature:
- YAY for some realistic medical things! Proper conditions, symptoms, diagnoses and diagnostic protocols. Having some realism should make for interesting gameplay for those who arent bothered by my other concerns or who can overlook them. I especially love the features such as an emergency room, a vital feature of a hospital that distinguishes it from what otherwise might be a glorified doctors surgery. Its great to see games acknowledge the tiers of medicine can range from routine to life-threatening and offer facilities to accomodate those needs. It shows real depth of thought into the challenges associated with healthcare and I hope the Devs continue to expand on the ERs role and use within the game.
- There are other features that ought to be credited given that this isnt exactly a huge developer franchise that we expect a loooot from, they've done a good job with many aspects, unfortunately its just not for me. Which is fine.
I hope for those who continue to play, the updates continue to be consistent and beneficial, and that the improvement results in a successful and well-rounded game. My final statement on it will just be that if you've got high expectations, expect the diversity and freedom of something like Theme hospital, want to go big or go home, maybe this isnt for you.
Well, back in those days, I loved to play Theme Hospital. So I find this game very intriguing.
You start with almost nothing, ca 48,000 Euros (or the currency you prefer; set in a exchange rate to dollars) a handful caretakers, two cleaner ladies and vast land full of bushes and trees.
Step by step you build your own hospital, buying new stuff and expand your team. And it's very funny and unlike the original Theme Hospital there are realistic diseases. Appointing your crew to overseas missions, you can get extra cash and EXP.
Unfortunately, there are many bugs as this game is currently just in a very early alpha stadium. It gets a little frustrating to olad previous savegames because of freezing bugs: When there is some kind of error, patients and your stuff get stuck doing nothing.
I would recommend this game in its current state only to simulation fans who can live with some freezing. It happens so often that you can't get a flow and just enjoy this game for hours and hours. I find this very disturbing.
But the developers are quite active and busy, making this game more stable and adding new interesting content, so allthough I wouldn't recommend this game yet, I am sure, with the next patches and fixes it will get much much better. ;)
=== UPDATE ===
Well, more than two years since my review have passed and it seems as though the developers completely abandoned the game. I had really high hopes but was thanked with a big disappointment. One who really loves hospital sims should definetely try Project Hospital or Two Point Hospital instead.
If you've played other build-it simulators Hospitalize is on it's way to something good.
That said, it's only got about 5-10 hours of gameplay on fast speed before you're running an unstoppable juggernaut with little challenge. (As of June 7).
If you like this type of game, there is a lot of potential. If this is your first, you may want until they add more to the gameplay depth.
wonderful little (not so little) hospital-game...
It´s a shame this hasn´t brought to a wider audience...
be sure about the EA-tag... pretty rough around the edges and you better keep some of the FAQs in your head to advoid some wtf?!-moments...
but in total it´s a very funny game...
Many people know the game Theme Hospital. This is the (more) serious version of it. Although not all treatments would be advisable in real live, but it is close enough.
In this game you are in charge of a hospital as managing physician.
One of the nice things in this game is that you can choose your own level of micro management. You can choose just to focus on the general needs and leave the little details to your staff. So you can focus on growth and building.
On the other hand you can micro-manage almost every decision your staff has to make. If you want more or less examination for a particular patient, just adjust their dossier. You can assign patient to particular staff. You can decide if treatments and examination must happen quickly or more precise and safe (but takes more time).
Even if you are building a large hospital you can take some time to follow the treatments and examination. Although it would be impossible to follow all patients in a large or medium sized hospital. But in principle you decide your level of micro management and can pay more or less attention to it , whenever you feel to it.
At the moment the state of the game is reasonable. Please keep in mind this is still a game in development. At the moment you will notice that the game will become a bit boring after you spend aprox. 25 hours to it. But the developer has big plans with it. So I expect that to change in future.
I have the impresion that the last months the developer focused mainly on bug -fixing.The number of bugs has been reduced significantly the last months. The pathfinder has improved a lot. Now most bugs are out of the game the developer can focus more on new content (as happened with the last big update).
For now it is already a very nice game to kill some time with it. It is a great basis for the future game. For the current price it is a great game with great potential in future.
If you want to play it, please keep in mind that future patches can kill your current builds.
Guys! Don't give up on this game yet! It has yet to show it's true colors! It may be riddled with bugs and sometimes feels a little light on content, that in no way ruins the potential of this game! Seeing that the developers went from a one man show to having four full timers means that the depth and content of this game is about to blow open!
This game is FINALLY a simulation of a real life hospital, without the weird and wild diseases of other games. I love prison architect, and although a completely different setting, shows many promising simularities. I would recommend this game now, but keeping an idea that it's far from complete.
For those of you with a little more medical knowledge depth and background, this is a welcome installment!
Years later, still Early Access, still busted and broken, still not fun or worth the price. Appears to have been abandoned. Go buy Project Hospital instead.
