About the Game

The Turing Test is a challenging first-person puzzle game set on Jupiter’s moon, Europa. You are Ava Turing, an engineer for the International Space Agency (ISA) sent to discover the cause behind the disappearance of the ground crew stationed there.

Upon arrival a series of puzzles awaits you – tests which, according to the station’s AI, Tom, can only be solved by a human. These puzzles have apparently been set by the missing ground crew – but why have they created them and what are they hiding from?

In an evolving story based on mankind’s instinctual need to explore, protect and survive, you’ll delve deeper into Europa’s ice crusted-core and discover that the lines between man and machine begin to blur. Armed with the Energy Manipulation Tool (EMT), solve puzzles to open the way forward as you learn the true cost of human morality.

Key Features:
 • Harness the ability to transfer power between machines using your ‘Energy Manipulation Tool’ providing a unique twist on gameplay mechanics and puzzle logic.
 • Learn the significance of player control as you switch between multiple perspectives to solve The Turing Test’s most challenging puzzles.
 • Discover a story with multiple layers of depth and conspiracy; challenging concepts of human morality and giving freedom to players to form theories about the fate of ISA's crew members.

Both the story and the puzzles were engaging. The game make you think on both how to solve the puzzles and what it means to be human. I enjoyed the 7-hour experience.

It's a good puzzle game. Good if not great story. I almost wouldn't recommend it, due to the puzzle mechinics weren't "taught" before you needed them and or knew that you could even do them. ie like jump into a pit and just as you do, click to switch to a robot. or put a box down to block a door when you can't block a door. there are several like this, but other than that... a fun puzzler with a good story.

An excellent 3_D, first person, sci-fi puzzle game. The puzzles are very easy at the beginning and increase in difficulty as you progress. A good story involving human/computer differences and morality.

This is a 1st-person shooter puzzle in the same vein as Portal, except with an emphasis on philosophy and drama rather than humour. Nonetheless it is a worthy successor, with puzzles that are difficult but always solvable with everything you have. I only had to look up solutions 4 times, 1 because it was not clear what the on-screen prompt was telling me, but this did not detract from the experience.

Oh, and Amelia Tyler and Jay Britton are amongst the crew you have to save. Hearing our beloved BG3 Narrator and her husband together is something special!

Absolutely Brilliant Game, It's been YEARS since I played, so details will definitely be blurry but this is genuinely a 10/10 game for me.

Story

The story is great, and James Faulkner's Performance as TOM makes it feel all the more engaging. It's goes just deep enough to get you thinking, but doesn't really force a belief onto you, just leaves you with it to think about on your own. The back and forth between Ava and TOM can get a bit overt and contrarian at certain times, but it never gets to a point where it's genuinely effecting the storytelling. The plot twists and little reveals are great as well.

Gameplay

The mechanics are simple, so it's very hard to mess up, and that expectation is lived up to. The puzzles are the perfect level of difficulty where they get you thinking, but you aren't ever usually stuck on a level for ages (which is just frustrating and can distract from the story). They feel hard enough to be rewarding, but not so hard they detract from any other aspect

The secret levels offer that great level of added "difficulty" and really push that "Turing Test" feel where you have to employ that lateral thinking. Like that bridge room where you essentially "cheese" the game, but it's intended to be that way.

One small preference I would have would be that instead of each section of levels having a theme and essentially restarting the difficulty and ramping up the difficulty, it compounds throughout the game more consistently.

It doesn't overstay it's welcome, it's not a 100 hours crazy long game, it short and sweet, and satisfying. The easter eggs sprinkled absolutely everywhere and little lore or thought pieces show the creators really put passion into this game.

The game also LOOKS AMAZING even by today's standards.

All in all, would HIGHLY recommend to anyone.

Excellent puzzle game with a unique mechanic I've never seen before. Longer than some I've played, though shorter than others. At just under 5 hours I'd say it's worth the price, though that is, of course, only if you're not a stingy money grubber who believes game developers should be happy to work for some pocket lint and a used tissue. Sorry, i get annoyed when people crap on shorter games. The Turing Test poses an interesting Trolley Problem as a crux to its narrative, with a good plot twist or two thrown in. Recommended, and worth the money.

Interesting first-person puzzle game that reminds me of Portal.

The game is a series of rooms to be solved, and new mechanics are introduced little by little.

The plot theme is interesting but sometimes the dialogues fall flat - although the voice acting is good, they can get a bit repetitive.

It's easy to backtrack and get secrets you may miss during your natural gameplay. Achievements are pretty straight-forward.

I went into this game not entirely knowing what to expect. But once I'd finished the game, I was thoroughly impressed. The developers did a fantastic job of creating a complex AI system. Think HAL from 2001, Ash or David from the Alien franchise, or AIDAN from Illuminae Files (for those who have read it). The dialogue was also fantastic and there is on audio file close to the end that gave me literal chills.

I would highly recommend this game to anyone who enjoys sci-fi or just some good story telling. And please, please, please read all the documents you can find throughout the game. They really make the game ten times better and show the care and attention these devs put in.

The Turing Test was an interesting little game, which reminded me in a few ways of Portal (moving from puzzle room to puzzle room while talking to a questionably-ethical AI). The puzzles were mostly quite easy, with a few harder ones mixed in, but I feel like this level of difficulty helped keep the narrative moving forward. The mechanics of the puzzles were pretty interesting too, having a lot to do with positioning and order of operations. I liked the story quite a bit, and I feel like the story is the highlight above the actual puzzles. If you want a cool sci-fi story about ethics and robotics, with some light puzzles, this game would probably be for you.

If you enjoy puzzle games, this one is worth playing.

Overall - 7/10

Enjoyable game that takes after The Talos Principle. There are some good puzzles in here, and the story

Value/Price

$4/hour. $20 for 5 hours of content is not worth it, despite those 5 hours quite enjoyable. I definitely recommend it on sale though.

Detailed Review

Story/Roleplay - 8/10

About me: The most important part of a game for me. If the story is lacking, full of deus ex machina, plot holes, etc. I will drop the game quickly. The only saving grace is if there are interesting roleplaying aspects, especially with the NPCs.

The story revolves around some philosophical questions, especially related to the Trolley Problem with a bit of a twist (In this case, you are one of the trolley's victims). It's not anything new for me, but I always enjoy when games make you think about problems like this -- even if the specific case is abstract and fictional, we deal with smaller versions in real life. I'm also a fan of the sci-fi theme, and a lot of the notes spread about provide some interesting lore.

Gameplay - 7/10

About me: I do care about, but I am willing to ignore if it's at least decent.

The puzzles are well-designed and are enjoyable. The puzzles are not too difficult, but also not obvious right away. I think it makes the game more accessible and ensures you don't get frustrated; however, as a big puzzle fan, I almost wish they made the puzzles more difficult. There were a few times where the puzzle could have been quite complex (without being tedious), but they opted for the simpler solution instead. Again, still requiring thought, but not so much that you sit there for a while trying to figure it out.

Graphics - 8/10

About me: I usually don't care about graphics; I still play NES/Retro games occasionally.

The Turing Test runs on Unreal Engine 4, so certainly excellent graphics. It has quite a clean and desirable aesthetic to it, and the space theme works quite well.

Sound - 6/10

About me: I do care about the sound/atmosphere, and I regularly listen to soundtracks on my daily walks, so I download what I like, and I often think about the background music while playing.

The music is good. Emotional and atmospheric, definitely capturing the vibe of the story well. Though, none of the tracks are particularly memorable or breathtaking. It's acceptable sci-fi background music, and that's about it.

Bugs - 0/5

About me: So long as I can still play the game, bugs don’t greatly impact my review scores.

I didn't experience any bugs while playing.

===Notes About Me===

I am not a professional reviewer, writer, developer, or anything related. I play games for fun, and I write reviews because I enjoy it and wish to help others decide on which games are worth it.

 • Why I bought/played this game - Received with my Humble Choice subscription. I enjoy puzzle games, so I played it.
 • State(s) I played this game in - Generally in good spirits.

My Scoring System

The Scale:

 • 10 - Loved it - Everything here is incredible. Very little could make this any better.
 • 9 - Amazing - Not necessarily lacking anything but not ranked among my top favorites.
 • 8 - Excellent - Everything at this level or above stands out.
 • 7 - Very enjoyable - It's not perfect, but overall it's quite entertaining.
 • 6 - Good - Could be better, but I still liked it.
 • 5 - Enjoyable - An average score. It has its issues, but it's not to be dismissed.
 • 4 - Okay - This is not a bad score. It's just not anything special.
 • 3 - Meh - Definitely has problems, slightly annoying, but not bad.
 • 2 - Bad - Frustrating and littered with problems. I probably stopped playing.
 • 1 - Very bad - Horrendous and unplayable.

The Bugs:

 • 0 - None - I did not experience (or notice) any bugs.
 • 1 - A few - They are barely distracting.
 • 2 - Annoying - Cause major issues but can be bypassed or avoided.
 • 3 - Large problems - Can be gamebreaking, but there are fixes online or it wasn't that important.
 • 4 - Game-breaking - Have no solutions. A significant portion of the game cannot be continued.
 • [*]5 - Unplayable - Must restart the game from the start, and even then, not guaranteed.

Every one of the human characters would fail the Turing Test because they don't act like people. There's a good twist halfway through and some optional puzzles that require out of the box thinking, but on the whole the games has your standard first person puzzles connected by an idiot plot.

This was an amazing game. Definitely had a similar feeling to Portal but without the over the top humor. It felt a bit short but was still amazing nonetheless. Graphics were pretty great especially since I was playing it on Linux. Didn't have one problem at all. Definitely wouldn't mind seeing a sequel one day. 10/10

Paying homage to a multitude of classic science-fiction films, such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, as well as video games, with puzzle-solving in the vein of Portal, The Turing Test drops players into a familiar yet nonetheless intriguing situation.

Awoken from cryostasis aboard a space station, you play as Eva, an astronaut on a mission to Europa, one of the moons of Jupiter. Tom, the station's AI, informs you that contact has been lost with your crewmates on the surface and you're sent down to investigate.

Therein lies the foundation of a mystery, which only deepens upon you entering the base on the moon and discovering that the layouts of the rooms have been turned into Turing Tests. Why this was undertaken and by whom remain ever-present questions in the back of your mind as you endeavour to progress through each section of the base.

Conversations with Tom, while enlightening, more often than not result in you having more questions than answers. Suspicious circumstances breed paranoid thoughts after all, and as you learn about the crew's fate through recordings and journals littered throughout the station the atmosphere of dread thickens.

While certainly not on the same level as The Talos Principle, some of the puzzles force you to adopt lateral thinking as you experiment with potential solutions. Overall, they're a satisfying collection worthy of being the central gameplay mechanic adjacent to a thought-provoking and ever more relevant narrative.

Pretty solid, polished first person puzzle game that lasts a couple hours. Clearly inspired by Portal, not that that's a bad thing, as there is an AI overseeing and narrating while you solve puzzles in chambers. The puzzles don't ever get too difficult but are thought provoking enough. New mechanics are very quickly introduced throughout the chapters which keeps it fresh.

There are also 7 optional puzzles in between each chapter that offer a bit more challenge. The reward for completing them is a hit or miss, with some having interesting lore at the end and others being quite a let down for the effort required.

The narration is high quality and the story was decently interesting albeit fairly shallow. More definitely could've been done with it but it holds up well enough. The narrator only speaks when you first enter a chamber, unlike for instance Portal where GLaDOS yaps throughout playing. It would've been nice for the narrator to yap more so we could understand the story and character better.

My interest waned towards the last couple chapters. The chambers increased in size but not necessarily difficulty - they were just tedious, not engaging. The fact that all the chambers look the same didn't help with that. This was further compounded by the ending that was a bit... goofy and disappointing.

Overall, it's not exceptional but a decently fun time. I'd recommend it on sale.
