Push The Crate: Remastered Edition is probably an asset flip, at least at face value. Some elements of this game certainly make it seem like the developer put some effort into assembling some kind of original here.

On the other hand, a lot of the game assets don't seem like they were created by the developer, but they haven't credited any asset creators for supplying assets, which might be a case of plagiarism. There's no evidence, so we need to give the benefit of the doubt... regardless, asset flip or not, the quality here is indistinguishable from many asset flip/cash grab scams, and that's a problem in itself.

Why do I say this? Because the graphics in this Sokoban ripoff look pretty decent. So we're expected to believe the developer created all these decent looking 3D assets, the character model, the town backdrop and all the other props just to make a Sokoban ripoff? Yeah, pull the other one.

So yeah, this is a Sokoban ripoff, almost 1:1. You push crates around to position them on the target squares in a small puzzle grid. The big difference is the aforementioned Unreal 3D assets all over the place... not gonna lie, visually the game is "okay". You can even customise the controls and the resolution, putting this a little ahead of your average asset flip.

But at the heart of this is a 30 year old Adobe Flash game, and graphics aside, that's all this is, and nothing more than that. You can play Sokoban for free, so why pay for a 3D version?

What I found to be thought provoking about this is that it really does demonstrate why asset store assets really don't "fix" the problem of developers who lack the time, talent, skill, budget, or whatever other excuses they use for not being professional. Decent looking assets don't make a bad or obsolete game concept suddenly any better.

As a matter of fact, looking at the assets of this game, you almost expect there to be some kind of awesome game behind it, because it looks okay... it's confrontingly deceptive. The result of these nice looking assets on a lame old game concept was a game that frankly is soulless. Why is this nicely rendered 3D man pushing boxes around? Turns out, it doesn't matter. It's just Sokoban.

It's not 1995 anymore. You can't slap modern graphics on an old obsolete game format and expect to get a magically better quality product. Games are a product of their technical implementation and the core game design. A game must have both for it to become greater than the sum of its parts. Here, that just isn't the case.

And as usual, you don't need to take my word for it. SteamDB shows this game only ever peaked at 3 concurrent players, and that only happened once. There's over 12 million gamers on Steam. For a game to be some severely ignored by so many people, well, that's saying something.

So, should you buy this Sokoban ripoff with an asset flip looking veneer?

Push The Crate: Remastered Edition is relatively cheap at $2 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. This is also competing with over 11,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product. Including many, many free Sokoban ripoffs. So if you need to play Sokoban, the free section of Steam has you covered. No need to pay cash money for what you can get for free.

Pretty horrible game. If there was brightness option I could play it more, but as of now I can't even see the fences cause it's so overly bright. Even though there are screens and tags on the game about being First-Person viewed, I couldn't find way to play it from anything other than bird view.

For achievement hunters:

You shouldn´t buy this game. Because all six achievements are currently broken (at the time I write this review).

Just bought this game and played 2nd level and noticed the block would shoot to the other side and force me to restart then when it would move correctly it would then shoot past the gate and into the weeds making me restart.. not sure if that is intended or just a flaw that needs to be fixed by the developer. otherwise this is a good game to play when you just want to wind down from the big games and play something simple..
(sorry for run on sentences its 5:20am lol)
i recommend this title, and support the developers!
