Would not recommend. no updates in years. not a single patch or bug fix but they still release dlc. this company is cancer. bought this on sale. still not worth it. Us RenPy. it works better, looks better and is being regularly updated. avoid this abandoned software. it is crappy.
I've used this application for long enough now, so I think it's time to give it an honest review.
To start it off, I have been using Visual Novel Maker to create a game I am currently working on called Trapped: Forced To Kill. Would I recommend this game to others? The simple answer is yes, but my explanations of the pros and cons will be under this.
Visual Novel maker is a good application to use if your a beginner and just wanting to make your first game (which is what I'm doing) or if you would like to use it to get to understand how scripting and game development works. Notice how I used good? Well I did that on purpose because the application is definitely not 'great'.
Firstly I'll start with the cons:
-The game has many bugs and is sometimes frustrating and difficult to work with (such as moving characters, saving & loading and trying to view your game)
-It is expensive for the quality of it. $ 87.95 Australian dollars is very expensive for how the app runs and works. (I got it for $20 on sale).
- The developers don't update it anymore. The game would definitely be a lot better if there were recent updates to fix/remove bugs.
Then the pros!
-The game is easy to use, fun and has heaps of different backgrounds, characters (I drew my own though) music assets + much more!
-The game is super beginner friendly (I learnt how to use everything in a few weeks).
-The actual game/ game package runs fast and doesn't take long to load into.
-There are heaps of already made scripts for you to use.
-You have the choice to add your own scripts in case you would rather code instead.
And that's about it! If you're still reading this, hiii, and I would say get this game when its on sale. Because it is definitely worth $20, but $87... I don't think so. You could probably buy a good Visual Novel Maker for cheaper than that.
