Its a lil jank, Its lil ugly, but its fun and interesting.

Overall, not anything I would every play again.
Taking it in the context of a ~10yr old game, the graphics are still a bit of a let down. Environments were ok enough, but character models were pretty rough. And plenty of clipping glitches and getting stuck on terrain.

May different guns, but just about all of them feel significantly worse than the main two so I really never found a reason to use any aside from saving ammo. Aliens either run in waves for you to mindless mow down, or drop on you with zero warning. No in-between. Armor feels useless and damage seem to have no consistency.

For me, as a fan of the early franchise, the story. It's bad. Like ... completely nonsense bad. And that 20th Century tried to insist this was 'canon' to the franchise makes it even more silly. Oh and if you are watching the little trailer video on the Steam Store page, trust me, the game looks NOTHING like that. Game play footage is worse in every way.

One of the best Co-op games I have played. I like campaign co-op.

This game gets A LOT of unnecessary hate, but I find those who hate it, aren't really big on alien, and that's the issue, this game will only make sense if your into alien, yes the AI is buggy, but it was 2013, who gives a crap. The game has spirit and a TON of action, I am a die-hard alien fan and I enjoyed the game a bunch, so much so I wish there was more content for it. Some missions were so good I had to replay them over and over. There's a lot of parts that hit to home with the alien franchise, and I'm all for it, don't listen to the haters.

I can only recommend this game to Aliens fans, given the soundtrack taken straight from the movie, as well as the accurate pulse rifle and motion detector sounds. There are as many easter eggs as there are plot holes! And that's about all the good things I can say about the game...
But hey! It's pretty cheap and the campaign won't take you long to complete, even on Bad Ass difficulty.

i played this all the way through in 2017.
That said, i am, doing a run because i want to immerse myself in the Alien Universe.
And kill mass quantities of xenomorphs while i do it.
I really would've loved an update of this game. Where the code that was taken out to make the Xeno's less powerful was put back in.
Looking forward to the atmosphere as well.

The game is kind of like a joke without a punchline or maybe like that one construction joke but they're still working on it

properties eventually run as admin, but for me i did run the redist, restart.. and it works. playable perfectly fine. they fixed the game 4 years after release.. too late the hero? no in the slightest if you want to play and experience one fine story, lore and action in the alien universe and add more on one of the finest sequels thats counts as canon - you should go for it.. go for it already!

I do reccommend this game if you like aliens and want more colonial marines action.
Played DLC "Statis interrupted" first and played through ! And i do reccommend this strongly.!!! (without any spoilers but that made that game worth it...)
After that i was so hyped and did start with the main campaign and had still fun.
i went for the whole thing ultimate badass difficulty, and searching every level for every trinket and unlock available..

if you cant get enough of LV426...
if you cant get enough of Colonial Marines and want a more wholesome alien action experience...
if you want to revisit and experience locations from the movies, fight the xenos, use colonial marines equipment and machinery...
if you are able to see past minor issues and are strong willed to finish this game (so far mission 9 no complaints from me)
this is the game for you.

i think there are mods out there that even do even more but i sticked with the base game so far and have a lot to try out until this is going to be the next step!

---Reasons not to buy:
Multiplayer is basically dead. REAL SHAME - becasue is actually fun, but you can get marine achievements and unlocks, perks and stuff by playing the campaign.

i do reccomend this game in a sale because the dlc singlehandedly made it so fun, that i had even more fun playing the campaign afterwards..

In short, this game is amazing. The atmosphere is very tense, incredibly terrifying game, also fast paced, which I like about it. Reminds me of classic FPS games for some reason. Absolutely love it though, definitely a game worth checking out!!!

Aliens: Colonial Marines is one of the very first fps games I have ever played. That being said, I might be looking at this game through rose-tinted glasses a bit, or whatever, but I really like it. I tried to hold back my nostalgia a bit when fully completing this game, and I can say that it's still very enjoyable. The setup process for this game is a nightmare though.
Gameplay wise, It's got some interesting mechanics. Being able to swap to whatever weapon on the fly is cool, and the variety of weapons is (albeit limited) keeps you engaged enough. Some minor annoyances is the aim wandering, damage output on enemies sometimes (I was playing on hardened in case you were wondering), and the shotguns. They're about as consistent as the shotgun from doom 3, in the sense that the damage they do can go from nerf dart, to 40mm anti-tank round. The range? A cumshot, to a laser beam.
The graphics in this game are...meh...they don't really stand out but aren't that terrible. There are some nice looking backdrops. However, the clunky animations, the weird shadows that you can only fix through the nvidia control panel, and the cutscenes that have character models that are completely devoid of emotion overshadow the good parts of the visuals of this game.
The ost slaps though. That main menu theme is one of the reasons why I bought the game. As for the other sounds in the game, they're pretty good, and are faithful to the movies.
As for the story, it's alright. The ending easily feels like the worst/most rushed part, and most of it isn't explained until stasis interrupted, the dlc.
Overall, this is gonna be a 7.2/10. An enjoyable experience, unlikely that I will return to it by myself anytime soon, unless it's with friends.

Can't overcome even with some mods.

Runs fine on Linux with Proton, but had lots of problems due to failed attempt to download some file. Finally installatin worked with Proton 8 after repeated tries with different verrsions. The game itself is very so-so. Rather tedious and uninspired. Kinda good idea with bad execution.

Once you fix the spelling error in the config, this game becomes a very enjoyable experience.

Much better than 99% of modern games released today - glad I tried this now.

I’ll start by saying Aliens: Colonial Marines had a lot of potential, but unfortunately, it feels like much of it went to waste. The voice acting is one of the first things you'll notice—it feels almost robotic, like it was generated by an AI. There’s no emotion, no real connection to the characters. Same goes for the animations. They’re stiff and lifeless, with no real feeling behind them.

The story is also a letdown. It plays out like a third-rate action movie, with no real depth or intrigue. It’s clear that this game was made with more of a focus on meeting deadlines and fulfilling contractual obligations than out of genuine passion or creative drive.

As for the gameplay, it's... meh. There’s no satisfying hit feedback when you’re shooting enemies, and the enemies themselves are just bullet sponges—there’s no real sense of challenge or tension. The combat lacks impact, and you never really feel like you're using a weapon in any meaningful way.

The graphics are another issue. For a game released in its era, the visuals feel outdated and underwhelming. The textures are flat, the environments are uninspired, and everything has a noticeable lack of polish. It feels like the game was designed with technology a few years behind what should’ve been expected at the time.

The physics in Colonial Marines are also worth mentioning—they feel completely inconsistent, almost as if the game doesn’t follow any of the usual rules of physics. Things just don’t behave in a believable way, making it hard to immerse yourself in the experience. Objects float unnaturally, and certain interactions don’t make sense, which breaks the overall flow of the game.

Let me give you an idea of what was released the same year to put this in perspective: Grand Theft Auto 5, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Tomb Raider, BioShock Infinite, The Last of Us, and Batman: Arkham Origins. These games not only had far better graphics, mechanics, and storytelling, but also a deeper sense of polish and creativity. Aliens: Colonial Marines feels like it belongs to a different generation entirely.

Overall, Aliens: Colonial Marines doesn’t leave much of an impression, good or bad. It’s a game that feels like it could’ve been so much more, but ends up falling short in nearly every area.

The Alien franchise has been a favorite of mine ever since I was younger and first discovered it. This game released shortly after I discovered video game walkthroughs on YouTube, so this game holds a bit of nostalgia for me. I want to mention this because my view of the game comes through a rose-tinted glass.

I love this game, because I love the Alien franchise and I love its continuation of the story after Alien 3. If you love the franchise too and just want to fight xenomorphs as a colonial marine, then this is your game, but if you're looking for a fleshed out first-person shooter with a fleshed out story, then you will be disappointed. You will fight most enemies alone, as friendly AI often does little to no damage if they can hit their shots. Human enemies are incredibly punishing as they deal a lot of damage but are sometimes immune to shots if in the right position, an error with the hit-boxes I assume. The story has its moments, but there's little character development and the voice acting will make you laugh from how out of place it can be. Also O'Neal is the worst character in the game, you cannot change my mind, he needed to die lol.

What this game excels at is the helplessness of a marine fighting the xenomorphs as they climb through the dark and the environment itself. The graphics are meh but the attention to detail to the environments, especially when going to areas from the movie Aliens, is incredible.

I do recommend this game if its on sale. I haven't tried the DLC yet but I will be starting it soon.

I still love the game but for some reason... everytime I enter and I can't play like I just press play but suddenly the stop button turns back into play like I'm banned or something? It would be better if this game got a Remake and kept the multiplayer as I hoped for Aliens: Fireteam Elite didn't promise because they are done, I think?

I cannot recommend this game enough!

Sure, there are probably a couple of factors contributing to my controversial opinion: for example my love of the franchise, me growing up in the age of jank games, my ability to fully immerse myself in an experience and the additional install of TemplarGFX's ACM Overhaul Mod V6.2 (must-have to fix core game issues).

That being said, I absolutely loved the experience, both the base campaign and the DLC. I had such a blast. Encounters with xenomorphs feel tense, the atmosphere is on-point, gameplay is varied and the story is fun. Pack you popcorn and rounds and kick ass marine. A definite must-play for any Aliens fan or person who enjoys old-school FPS campaigns!

Pretty good despite what people said about it over the years i still enjoy an alien game!

Very conflicted game that has many great creative ideas, but largely fumbled due to file issues that didn't get caught before release breaking the game, unless one manually corrects typos.

I remember this having a very fun survival mode with friends called Bug Hunt, unfortunately it seems that this game's DRM is tripped in some way that the game no longer launches if you run it on the 2024 builds of Windows 11.

I wouldn't say there is a lot of stuff wrong with Colonial Marines, it's just generic Call of Duty styled gameplay. I think that's what most people have an issue with when discussing this game. So why does Call of Duty get a pass and this game still has bad review stigma attached to it so many years later? It's because CoD's generic gameplay is what defines the genre meanwhile the Alien franchise had always a special signature attached to it and you always expected something different when playing a new game or even watching a movie. All the other Alien games in the franchise felt always different in one way or another, for better or worse, but Colonial Marines just feel too much like CoD. The bugs, some awfully cringe characters and the not so much amusing quick time events don't help either.
But as a canonical addition to the franchise I like it. The game looks and feels like it's from the ALIEN universe. The environments and the atmosphere are the main positives - if you get bored from the gameplay then atleast you have the environment which you just have to explore, because of how spot on it is. The environments and some story elements sometimes are inconsistent with what happened in the Aliens movie, but if you don't have crippling OCD then you could easily give this issue a pass. The game doesn't feel scary or at least tense and as it should since were in horror genre territory. I would say the motion tracker is the coolest part of the game, but you'll be barely using since the threats are just waves of xenomorphs marching straight towards you with no sense of environmental awareness.
The key to liking this game is simply immersing your self into the world. If you are not a fan of the series then I wouldn't even bother playing this, but if you're a fan you definitely need to try this game out. I would recommend (if you're playing the campaign for the first time) to watch ALIENS right before starting the game to keep those film emotions intact while playing the game.

Wanted to boot it up again on Windows 11, the game does NOT work.

There are some friendly souls who have made something Templar GFX mod, which works for some people. Didnt work for me, so have to leave a negative reply because the game is simply just not playable in 2024.

Do not buy in 2024. Steam will just say "updating executable" as it says its "launching" the game and it will not launch. There is no existing fix for this issue. Frankly valve needs to remove the game from the store as their policy states now that games have to work to be on steam

Not really sure why there are so many negative comments about this game. I think it's actually pretty awesome. A bit freaky and stressy at times, but fun. Only wish people were more active for coop play.
