Megaman 9 and 10 are a true return to classic form!!
Megaman 8 was my absolute favorite as a kid on PS1 and after buying this and trying some of the other Megaman games, I can see it wasn't nostalgia, Megaman 8 is the most fun/frustrating one with better graphics, good puzzles, and cool bosses.
No in-game options for resolution, no in-game options for proper scaling. You're stuck relying on very incomplete guides to use ReShade to try and make it work, and for some reason they all assume everyone is still in the early 2010s playing at 1920 x 1080. If you have a 2560 x 1440 or 3840 x 2160 display to play on, you're going to have an even harder time getting this piece of crap collection to look correct.
That's not even mentioning how Capcom screwed up Steamworks and this game effectively has Always Online DRM, or how many classic Mega Man games are either missing from this collection or not available in their own collection. There's really no excuse for Mega Man & Bass (the SNES version, not the screen crunch GBA version) not to be here. I would have liked to see Mega Man Powered Up from the PSP and the 5 Mega Man World games from the Game Boy here as well, but find their exclusion a bit more forgivable.
I truly wish Capcom cared more. There's no reason for this collection to be so lacking.
Dang I love Mega Man even if the first two games on here sorta suck
Jump, Jump, Slide, Slide!! *blue ripples comes out*
Expected Megaman 9 and 10 to build on Megaman 8, instead they are just cheap throwbacks to the most basic NES games. A fun novelty, but not worth any money.
If you are a long Megaman fan, I highly recomend it. It's a bit funny, that I used to have a NES and now I finally downloaded this pack of Megaman goodies. So I can experience my chidhood again.
Still some solid games, but I'd wait for a sale. It'll go as low as five bucks, so just wait for that.
The games are pretty hard, if you suffer from skill issues (like me) you will probably experience pain.
It does run on Steam Deck, but it seems some Proton updates/high amounts of storage used slow the game down. Also likes to eat battery.
No idea why DRM needs to be put in a collection of 1 SNES game, 1 PS1 game, and 2 Wiiware (I know 9 and 10 were also on Xbox 360 and PS3)
Just get an emulator/buy on another platform.
.
this is actually recomendable due to mega man 9 and 10, if you have those this is not really that special
7/10 best way to play those retro games
Great bundle. Wish it had Mega Man & Bass too, though.
Not having Mega Man & Bass is a glaring omission, but other than that it pretty much works just as well as the first collection, with less games. It's definitely worth getting for 9 and 10 alone though since they were once WiiWare exclusives prior to this. (It even includes the little DLCs they got)
Chill Man is too ez, his level is ez, the boss is ez, Too Ez Man.
mega fun
It nice but megaman 7 is lowkey some mid
you must recover all the energy immediately WWW--megaman
i think 6 was the peak of early megaman, and these games feel, overall, a downgrade from that, but they're still fine enough to play
the rewind function is sorely missed though
why no mega man & bass ):
still 10/10
I give this game a rank B- (70-75%)
Nice game - try if you are interested
See my profile for more details about my reviews.
If you are reading this but did not buy or try the Collection 1, stop here and go read my review of that one first. I am finally done with this next set of legacy collection, and although I had fun with it, I can definitely put it a tad lower (around 75%) than the original collection (from 1 to 6), for many reasons. Good reasons, but also bad reasons, so on average, it is just a bit less good. Why?
Good reasons, Mega Man 1 to 6 came out much before, and were consistent. Mega Man 7 to 10 are just so chaotic in their release span, their design, their concept, their qualities. Also, this set feels less well done than the first one, although they added some accomplishments/achievements kind of thing. Bad resolutions, clunky menu system, so many awkward port decisions... And finally, there is less game in here! (only 4 vs 6 in the first pack!).
Now, there are also "bad" reasons: a game like Mega Man 7, which I really think is between mediocre and bad in design drops the quality average by far, when games like Mega Man 8 or 10 are actually very good! It is hard to judge this when, in the first pack, all of the 6 were at least decent.
This collection had the sad fate of having to put together so different games, games that are so controversially unique compared to each other that it was doomed from the beginning.
However, I still give this collection a B-, not a D! If you think you are interested in Mega Man, you would HAVE to play this, and just because in it you will find one of the coolest and grooviest (may I say "SEGA-est?") Mega Man NOT from the X series, that is Mega Man 8! Search in the community hub around here if, like me, you hate the english dub and want the original, typically japanese 90s feel of the game with voices. The music in Mega Man 8 is just insanely good, Sonic CD level. They tried making an actual story, with lore, and super tacky but adorable anime cutscenes.
Also, Mega Man 10 is worth a try: it is the hardest Mega Man I had to play to this day (I even abused the save system...) and one of the best tributes to the original series. Mega Man 9 is not bad at all, difficulty is up there, and overall a decent retake on the retro style... and finally we have Mega Man 7... a weird abomination where there is about 20% of very good ideas... and the rest is just between meh and really bad. But when you know they took only 3 months to develop the game, you know what to expect.
All in all, if like me you are interested by the whole franchise, you should definitely try this pack, it is still worth it. It has good or great games like MM8, 9 or 10, and the difficulty is HUGE compared to previous ones (it took me 10 more hours with 2 less games!!..).
Hem is live on Hem & Watch
Pretty good ports of awesome games. I appreciate that instead of a rewind system they just have "Load previous checkpoint". Really lets you get better at the game and take more time to appreciate it instead of rewinding every mistake. MM9 has one of the best soundtracks of any game I've ever played.
8.7/10
"This collection works _almost_ perfectly on Steam Deck and Pop!_OS, (Except for MM8's videos.)"

Honestly I mostly got this because I really *really* like Mega Man 8. There aren't that many other videogames with the colorful, cute, and cartoony yet tense action of Mega Man 8 and I feel like the people who put this bundle together knew that.
This collection made me appreciate Mega Man 7 more, as I can see how it was stepping towards that aesthetic direction, but the changed feel in contrast to the NES games via the closer camera, the very different sound effects, and the floor collision check being more middle-of-body rather than edge-of-foot just always bugged me. Plus the late game is much *much* harder if you don't get the RUSH upgrades which are easy to miss.
9 and 10 are fine. I don't have as much to say about them because I played them both back on the Wii and they don't feel all that old in my mind. 9 is kinda brutal in places, but if you turn on "Extra Armor" from the main screen options section of the collection before picking any game, it'll be less of a slog except for the cheap deaths. Mega Man 10 feels like the better of the two with a bit less cheap instant deaths except for one or two levels, and it really feels like it's bringing in the spirit of Mega Man 3, right down to some of its late game returning bosses ala Doc Robots.
This collection works _almost_ perfectly on Steam Deck and Pop!_OS, with the single issue being that the video files in Mega Man 8 will not play properly as the encoder doesn't seem to play nice with NVidia cards. It might work with an AMD card or it might be fixed via later updates to Proton, but it was no issue for me. And really I've played Mega Man 8 soooooo many times, I don't mind just watching the cutscenes online when I really want to see them again. Though they really do set the mood for the game.
What's Old Is Even Older
Not much more to say about these ones; however, it's nice to see Mega Man 9 and 10 receive meaningful preservation efforts. If you don't blast through it all at once, the package is a healthy mixture of the Classic series' pubescent stages and its desire to maintain it's youth.
+ Reworked assist features such as Checkpoint Saves makes for a more ethical playthrough experience
- Lacking content otherwise; fewer games of varying qualities and underwhelming additional game modes
I just wasn't cut out to be a mega man
Its good for a megaman fan or if you enjoy platforming and the voice acting is pretty funny too for 8
Mega Man Legacy Collection #2 contains Mega Man 7 to 10, which often seem to be considered the weaker half of the classic Mega Man series. However, I really enjoyed all of them for the most part, maybe even more so than the first six games from Mega Man's NES era. Mega Man 7 has probably one of the hardest final boss fights of the whole series, but apart from that Mega Man 7 - 10 are actually much more balanced in terms of overall difficulty than the old NES games. I even dare say that Mega Man 10 is by far the easiest classic Mega Man. On top, Mega Man 8 is arguably the best-looking 2D Mega Man besides Mega Man 11 and it also has the best soundtrack of them all.
Lastly, they were wise enough to not include that absolute piece of sh*t called Mega Man & Bass, which would have stained this otherwise rock-solid collection. Must-buy for every Mega Man fan and retro gamer.
