Beautiful game. It's a short puzzle game with an amazing story. It absolutely made me bawl.
RIME has some gameplay design issues that make the game not as enjoyable as say, journey but that does not mean it's not worth experiencing. Whatever flaws it may have pale in comparison to the story that's told here. Without spoiling anything the final act was incredible on a narrative level. It's something that i can see bring people to tears, which it didn't for me, but still gave me goosebumps. The real question you need to ask if you want to play RIME is wether or not you're willing to sit through 5+ hours of slow paced gameplay for this payoff. Not that it's a complete bore but the very slow running speed comparitively to the big levels make it a bit of a slow burn. It was enough to dissuade me from chasing all the achievements, which is something i normally strive for. The puzzles aren't all that fun either so the appeal here is quite literally the story. That and the obviously beautiful art style and OST, which are both excellent as well. In a way you don't lose out much by watching a longplay of this over playing it yourself especially since it's so expensive. If you wanna play it yourself though, pick it up at a discount.
I didn't know what I was signing up when I started playing Rime, but what I had seen looked beautiful and I was down for a short puzzle game. The further I got, the more impressed I became at the size of this "little" game, and the thought, creativeness, and attention to detail the devs put into it.
As a game, it does a great job of respecting the mind of the player, allowing them to teach themselves through game play, experimentation, and creative level design. Each new concept is discovered, practiced, and then mastered in a gradual and creative way, and previous mechanics are frequently brought back to continue to challenge and engage the player. I found myself challenged consistently, pushed to grow, but never frustrated. Solving this games puzzles was rewarding and thought provoking. The story itself is well written and beautiful, slowly unfolding as the player explores and learns, ending in a almost reveal of tragic proportions. Tears may be shed.
The graphics for Rime are simple, colorful (until they arn't), and elegant. Each level you visit has a different feel, but they all follow the same basic principles that helps the story feel smooth and all a part of the same world. The brights are beautiful and the dark moments really work in juxtaposition to them bring a full spectrum of emotions to the player throughout the story,
The audio is next level. A beautiful score accompanies the player through every moment of the game, swelling with joy, leading with anticipation, and drowning in sorrow. I don't believe I ever found myself bored for my entire play though (around 5 hours) in any aspect of the game, but particularly musically. The soundscape is well designed, continuing to clue you in when you are on the right path, when something is happening, and when you discover something new. I could sit in the menu and just chill TBH, absolutely stunning audio.
The only reason I didn't give this game a 10/10 is because I wish I knew before I left the first world that I couldn't come back to it. I wasn't done exploring and was bummed I couldn't go back and keep looking for things.

Rough 1st time play through: 4-6 hours
Games like this: HOA seems to strike a similar chord with me. If you haven't played it, give it a try. If you liked it, this one will also feel great!
nice game
Overall: 6.5/10 (below average)
Recommended: no
Time to complete story+sides: 6.5 hrs
(12/31 achievements, 20/45 collectibles)
Gameplay: 5.5
- painfully slow movement speed relative to the size of the levels/game (to a degree that I won't bother to 100% the game)
- disappointingly few puzzles and puzzle mechanics, spending most of the time being a clunky 3D platformer
Story: 6.5
~ story was vague, primarily told through hidden collectibles, and the primary impact was just the ending
Setting: 7
~ somewhat interesting
Characters: 6
- not much character development until the end
Graphics: 7.5
+ pleasant, with a style that feels similar to (or the same) as cell-shading
Audio: 7.5
~ well done, though the music was a bit too relaxing (combined with the painfully slow movement speed)
- the yells from the kid and frequent barks from the fox became grating quickly
(I think it would've been preferable to have the kid hum to activate things and the fox less frequently bark)

This game was really nice to play. This game had a great story, fun adventure, great audio track, atmospheric and chill! I give this 10/10!
absolutely beautiful game with some chill puzzle time if you need a game as downtime. The story itself was nice but still could have had easier explanations
I bought it for the puzzles, now I cri
Go in blind. No guides, no achievements, just enjoy the story.
I cannot begin to stress how incredible this game is.
An astonishingly beautiful game. The scenario, the graphics, the music... Everything fits on its place in a really harmonious way.
It's original and creative games like this that the gaming industry needs!!!
RiME is an amazing adventure game with a beautiful story. The puzzles are not too difficult, the designs are really nice and the ambiant is so relaxing. I really enjoyed this game and I highly recommend it!!! 🩵🩵🩵
This game is a masterpiece, so emotional and amazing visuals. Can't recommend enough!
Rime is a walking simulator mixed with a 3d platformer that is on a fundamental level ok at best. The game is gorgeous and its art style is basically windwaker but better. Of particular note, the rain effects were amazing on the level that used them. As gorgeous as it is, the gameplay is meh at best and the story is obscure until the end. While I will recommend it, It is an art piece more than an an enjoyable game.
Pros:
-Amazing visuals and effects
-Unique and interesting creature design
Cons:
-The game plays slow. I feel it would have been better if the character was overall 10-20% faster (including animations)
-The game did not need the padding that was scattered around in the game. The most obvious was the 8 bars you had to climb over with slow animations in the near last level.
-The game uses fade to whites which is painful
-The first level was too open world relative to the more linear later levels
Play it and replay this game.
All time that you spent on this game will help you get through what is meant to happen or has already happened.
Play this game if you feel like crying.
What drew me in initially was the soundscapes and the art style. Just be warned that RiME will take a part of your soul and you'll need the end credits to recover from it. Wonderful game.
Even if this game is from 2017, it is still one of the best games and it will be for a long time from now. From the graphics to the music, this game is pure art. However the thing that strikes you about RIME is its heartbreaking storyline. It is like you are in a movie but you have the control. The game simply teleports you in that forgotten world, making the journey feel personal.
If you’re looking for a game that emphasizes exploration and emotional depth, "RIME" is definitely worth your time.
Warning! This game has many mental health triggers and gets into heavy emotional topics. This is not just a casual light-hearted puzzle-game. The look of the game is beautiful, and the quality of puzzles makes for a very engaging game. The tone shifts quite dramatically the last third of the game. I should have done more research before buying, but I assumed based on the description it wouldn't be so dark. I would recommend based on quality of design, but the story line was not for me.
From the art design to the immersive sound and breathtaking music, this little game is absolutely beautiful!

TOTAL SCORE: 12/20

Rime is a charming little game about a boy who wakes up on the beach of an uncharted island and begins to explore. Along the way, he finds a little fox spirit who helps him solve puzzles and guides him along the correct path. Rime's world is very beautiful, with a distinct Mediterranean flair to its architecture. Its music is soothing yet melancholy, adding to its isolated atmosphere.
The gameplay is simple: you run, jump, and climb over obstacles. You solve numerous puzzles to find the way forward. Rime is very good at deftly teaching you the mechanics, subtly directing you to figure out the way things work before gradually increasing the difficulty on its puzzles. None of them ever get too difficult to figure out, and there are numerous collectible items you can find on your journey, some of which help flesh out the boy's backstory.
In terms of story, Rime features no dialogue whatsoever, rather letting its imagery tell the story for it. I quite like this approach, as it still feels unique especially in today's game market where stories are more commonly told in cinematic fashion. For the most part, Rime's story is hardly present, with brief glimpses of something more happening behind the curtain. I don't have anything against games that take a traditional cinematic approach, but Rime's light touch was definitely a breath of fresh air.
And then the game's ending decided to systemically destroy me as a human being.
I'll try not to spoil too much here. But the story is an allegory for grief, so it is dealing with some pretty heavy subject matter. I knew this going in, but that knowledge did nothing to lessen the impact of its ending, its final twist feeling like a knife to the gut. But that is the beauty of art, to be able to convey an aspect of the human experience, not matter how grim or depressing.
Rime isn't perfect however. The second section in the desert feels like it lasts just a little too long. And the jumping feels a bit too stiff, leading to some uncertainty when performing jumps. It's a very slow burn of a game as well, so some might find themselves turned off of the game before hitting the end of its roughly five and a half hour runtime.
But overall it is a charming game with a meaningful story. If you're a fan of indie games, I recommend you give this one a shot. Maybe wait for a sale if you feel that thirty bucks is a bit too steep of a price for the runtime it offers.
Depression-rich, I accept things as they are.
