good game for those interested in Napoleonic War era.
To much of a sim type game for my tastes. Functions well. Including on Steam Deck.
i have spent 340 hours on warband and i can easily say that it is better than bannerlord
it is a very realistic (story & exploration wise) medieval timey fighting game
if you dont like the realism, i recommend bannerlord
One of the greats of alll time. Take advantage of the mods, the community is incredible
A very well calculated game...
Mount & Blade: Warband is a unique blend of medieval combat simulation, strategy, and RPG elements that has captivated players since its release. Set in the open-world land of Calradia, the game offers unparalleled freedom to carve your own path, whether as a mercenary, trader, or ruler.
The game’s hallmark feature is its dynamic, skill-based combat system. Battles are immersive, with real-time swordplay, archery, and mounted combat that feel satisfyingly realistic. Coupled with sandbox gameplay, Warband offers an experience that feels personal and rewarding.
However, the game’s dated graphics and somewhat clunky interface may deter new players. Despite this, the modding community has kept the game alive, with numerous mods enhancing visuals, gameplay, and introducing entirely new worlds.
Pros:
Deep sandbox gameplay with high replayability.
Immersive medieval combat mechanics.
Dynamic political and economic systems.
Strong modding community extends the game’s lifespan.
Cons:
Outdated graphics and animations.
Steep learning curve for new players.
Lack of narrative depth or structured progression.
AI can be inconsistent in battles and strategy.
Verdict: A must-play for fans of medieval simulations and sandbox RPGs, provided you can look past its aged presentation.
It is a great game for an indie, you get to create your own Character and rise to power, of course the online community is lovely as well, the Mods make it great too, overall I would even recommend this for Low-End PCs, I am running it on a 4 GB RAM Laptop with no performance issues at all.
Older game at this point but still as fun as ever, with a good amount of mods if vanilla gets boring.
Great game! I played it in my childhood when I was 10-11, then stopped playing. Game of Thrones—both the show and A Song of Ice and Fire book series—has a really similar vibe. I played with the Nord Kingdom under King Ragnar. I revisited this awesome game for 2 days recently, and it still rocks. I recommend it to everybody—great fun!
Awesome campaign, great map, good character dynamics. missing a lot of core functions that make Bannerlord awesome, but this came before Bannerlord so that's expected. I've owned this dlc since it came out and ive had great play-throughs.
I would definitely recommend this game to any new or old players, or players.
Fun and easy-to-run game for most systems. Great for those looking to create their own stories. Mods are great.
One of the greatest of all time. Mount and Blade Warband does what no other game has succeeded in doing before. Marrying the kingdom management and rpg mechanics of a Crusader Kings, with the tactical battles of Warhammer, with the fast paces third person combat of a Chivalry: Medieval Warfare. Recruit troops to your Warband, become a mercenary, be a trader, a looter, a lord. All on a dynamic and ever changing feudal world map with interesting characters, lore, and geography. Learn the politics of Calradia and establish yourself as a great King, or maybe even Emperor of all Calradia itself. Even with Bannerlord out, Warband still holds up. The soundtrack, atmosphere, and iconic voice lines are more than enough to return to this classic, let alone the vibrant and still living modding scene this game has nurtured over the years. Seriously, don't miss this one if it is recommended to you.
The base games is fun on Its own, but the mods just make It so much fun
Awesome game. I love the role playing mixed with army building and leading armies in battle. Also the mods for this game add so much content that is like having several games in one.
Mount & Blade: Warband is an incredibly addictive game that offers a unique blend of strategy, combat, and role-playing. Its depth keeps you hooked for hours, whether you’re commanding armies, managing kingdoms, or engaging in intense medieval battles. The thriving community is a testament to the game's enduring appeal, with mods and multiplayer servers constantly breathing new life into it. If you love sandbox adventures and medieval warfare, this is a must-play!
An old, janky strategy/tactical RPG that has aged surprisingly well. The mechanics are easy to approach but allow for seemingly endless adventures with you at the wheel.
Very nice indie game. My brother played it years ago and i used to be content just to watch. Now I'm playing it and i can go hours doing one task or another in the game. WELL MADE
It's really good! The mods also push it a lot further. Worth checking out. It has satisfying fighting, economy, and progression. Very much an open-world experience.
The DLC is the Best, but original is timeless as well. Lots of fun!
Probably my favourite game of all time. The 400 hours I have here is just the tip, as I ran a disk copy for many years, and it is probably more like 1500 hours, or more, of playtime. The base game is highly enjoyable, with a long-term campaign and lots to do along the way. It's an open-world RPG, meaning that you are only restricted by the realities of the game, instead of things like level requirements, or gear upgrades. Gear is a thing, but it's all about what you can afford or scavenge. The real heart of the game, of course, are the command options. It's the only game where you feel like a commander taking part in a larger war, with full control of when, where, and how you fight. The game is stable, even on potatoes, and runs great on my 4gb internal graphics card. The modding community is also amazing, and I have probably half my hours just playing warsword conquest.
This game is still good after 14 years. Yes, someone will not like it because game is hard from the start but i like it. Nothing is for free. Enemies are on the hardest difficulty very unforgiving and from the start very tough but it get better after some time.
If you are bored you can install mods from community workshop and some mods are fantastic
A classic. I can sing the praises of its sequel but this game still does so many things better. There's a lot more character here, with consistent nobles and companions. This makes feasts much better. Also, and this may be preference, but the siege maps are always the same. Some are good and some are bad, some favor the defender and others favor the attacker. There's a terrible balancing problem with some units being absolute monsters, and some kingdoms not having a chance to defend themselves with enemies all around them.
Is it worth playing in 2024? Absolutely. Will it be your go-to Mount and Blade if you already own the sequel? Probably not. You can easily adjust to its age and jankiness when you've been playing it for a while, but it's not the kind of classic you can jump right into after its polished successor improves on so many things.
Actually, this game presents the real history , even though the names are different. Every faction try to rebuild calradian empire, real life equivalent roman empire. The sum of the stories in Bannerlord and Warband fits perfectly with this thesis.
It's an excellent game that I've been playing since my childhood. Only the siege mechanics could be a little better.
Even though its almost 15 years old, this game is a load of fun. And what makes it hold out as one of the best medieval strategy/action rpg games to this day is its community and moddablity. The sheer number of mods for this game is astounding. And there is a mod for almost every universe and time period.
Ancient Rome? Theres a mod for that.
Viking age? Theres a mod for that.
Medieval Europe? Theres a mod for that.
Early modern age? Theres a mod for that.
Lord of the Rings? Theres a mod for that.
STAR WARS?? YES. THERE IS A MOD FOR THAT.
All in all, a gem of a game. Highly reccomended. 10/10
Good game. The Combat is unique, and can be as simple/easy or complex/hard as you like. It runs good on lesser devices, even with dozens of units at once. However, the early game is a lot more fun than the late game.
The Game is certainly worth the price regardless.
Extremely fun and addicting gameplay loop with a large modding community. Mount and Blade Warband is worth checking out
***Purchased on sale for 5CAD, would recommend waiting for sale as this goes on pretty regularly
I used to play this on my macbook in middle school, ripped from paulthetall's website. Never did much other than fight bandits and get taken prisoner, but man was it a good time.
Coming back to this game over a decade later, and I'm hooked. It really is more of a sandbox with a simulated kingdom that you play around in. You set your own goals and decide how you want to impact the world, and go from there. I'm learning the game basically for the first time, and would recommend turning down the difficulty a bit so you can get familiar with the game's systems before trying to sweat - no shame in that! There's a lot of nuance about what units are best, how to build your character and party members, kingdom management etc to learn.
I haven't played around with any of the conversion mods but there's a ton of ways to modify your game. It honestly never gets old leading a cavalry charge into an enemy army and hearing your men shout for victory after you've murdered everyone on horseback.
It's a amazing game. There are thousands of mods and the game builds a really close connection to the npc's over time. However to me, this game is very addicting. The best thing about this game is how indipendent a player can be and it's mod. It's mod litrally creates different version of it from real historic events to fantasy, strategy game.
Other than the dated graphics, no complaints. You play as a warrior in the Medieval period and frankly I can't resist laughing like a maniac as I charge into battle and start bashing my enemies with my buddy Jeremus
Very fun game, had so much fun accross many years and many laptops
I will recommend, for a better vanilla experience, the mod "Bannerpage".
But even if you don't install any mods it's a good game, with many hours of gameplay
the emptiness feels like this game has been abandon, what are we doing gang, need more update on this

"Erturia has defeated all rivals and stands as the sole kingdom."
Key Highlights:
Unparalleled Freedom: You're dropped into Calradia with no predetermined path. Will you become a feared warlord, a respected king, or a mercenary leader? Your choices shape the journey.
Combat System: The melee and mounted combat mechanics are unmatched, especially for their time. Each strike, block, and parry feels genuine, and the mounted combat still holds up as some of the best in gaming.
Political Intrigue: The game goes beyond simple battles, offering a dynamic political landscape where you can forge alliances, woo nobles, and rise to power by convincing lords to join your cause.
Multiplayer: Intense multiplayer modes like Siege and Battle keep you coming back, offering a range of classes and equipment options. Even years later, the community remains active and passionate.
Depth of Progression: Recruiting companions, leveling up skills, and customizing your army give you a sense of real growth. Watching your ragtag band grow into an unstoppable force is incredibly satisfying.

It´s an incredible game. On its own it´s a great game concept, executed pretty well but a little bit stale once you master it. But then, the mods turn it into an incredible experience. Like a "make your own adventure" simulator in a medieval setting revolving around party management, your own combat, tactics and a lot more potential stuff I don´t care that much about like kingdom management and trading. Give it a shot
Addictive, predictable, simulator with great action and strategy.
Fight like a rebel for yourself or a pretender to one of the many crowns in the land.
Or straight up conquer the hearts and minds of the people (or straight up villain,) and claim the towns and castles of the continent of Calradia.
Re-playability with mods is great with tons of high quality mods to completely change the experience anywichway you want it.
Game has amazing manually aimed attack system, which is a real highlight. The kingdom mechanics are pretty rough, especially when you’re not backing any claimants. It feels like an upgraded version of the original Mount & Blade, but it really owes a lot to the modding community. Without their contributions, the game would feel pretty empty and lack the variety and depth in kingdom management.
Very replayable due to the modability. It's truly a classic.
Every time I want to start another playthrough I remember how much time it would take to finish it, so I'm restricting myself cause there's stuff in real world that needs to be done, but in perfect world where you can play games without a care in the world ignoring all responsibillites... I would totally dive into another harvesting season of sea raiders skulls, 10/10
My hours arent much compared to alot of players, but this is probably my favorite game on earth. The mods make it better and some have been in development for many years. This game does things together that no other game one earth does the same (except bannerlord... DUH)
This is brilliant.
The combat is great and responsive, the battles really do have a feeling of scale but the real thing that keeps impressing me about this game is the emergent narrative. Sure the diplomatic and relationship building aspects of this game are very limited, but the ebb and flow of war, the rivalries with opposing nobles, the slow and steady development of your army and lieutenants is just great. I keep coming back to this primitive masterpiece.
What an amazing game. The mods are insane and bring so much variety. Want to play in Roman times, Medieval, 18th century? Want to play in Lotr, GoT or Star Wars? It is all there. This is also one of the only games I played a lot of multiplayer. The Napoleonic Wars DLC is a lot of fun.
Mount and Blade: Warband is the ultimate medieval experience! With its rich open world, you can carve your own path as a noble, merchant, or bandit. The combat is thrilling and realistic, making every battle feel epic.
The game may not boast cutting-edge graphics, but its immersive landscapes and dynamic politics keep you hooked for hours. Plus, the vibrant modding community adds endless replayability.
If you crave a game that combines strategy, adventure, and realism, look no further.
10/10—An absolute must-play!
A really great game once you get to know it.
In Vanilla/Native: Fantasy without the fairies! You can control troops while in 1st/3rd person on the battlefield which still ticks
the strategy box. Just look past the old graphics and quirks (which game doesn't have those?)
There are many mods, and with the DLC's too, so different options for setting / play-style are available.
Even today, better than Bannerlord. Especially with mods.
Best of the best game/play and UMMO and Best graphics/sound quality DLSS Nvidia/latest UFUHD realistic pixels unreal/frostbite engine and THX spatial audio/MIC HQ/Dolby 7.1/oomph/krisp/bass boost surround sound and next gen upgraded gaming and music listening experience to to sound and gameplay and crossplay merge in different multiple servers and less blurred and slugglish movement and cartoonie and childish-gameplay-graphics and more event and updates and more newer reworks AI Benchmark
it is so far the best medieval, combat, trade game that i have played in my life and still do, even after bannerlord came out.
A rather mediocre game (apart from its magnificent manually aimed attacks system) with difficult & horrible one's own kingdom mechanics (when you do not support any claimant). An upgrade of the original Mount & Blade elevated to unimaginable heights by the modding community without whom the game would be utterly barebones and lack any variety or kingdom management depth. 7/10. Modders' efforts: 11/10
It's a decent game. Animations like moving, archery, horseback riding are oh kay. Could've been better. Map overlay is neat. If you're looking to buy this one or the other ones, go with one of the other ones.
I recommend it though. If you decide to buy this one you won't be disappointed.
Very Fun to play,
The graphic is not so good but the game play is extremely fun.
Got a lot of mods can play, can explore for long time.
> download and launch game
> make funny looking guy
> grind for 600 days
> finally grow a pair and siege dhirim (bad choice)
> win the siege and create my own faction
> 10 days later
> i see 1200 nords approaching
> get my ass obliterated
> i lose everything
10/10 experience. THIS IS PEAK GAMING
