In Dead Space™ 2, you join Isaac Clarke, the Systems Engineer from Dead Space, as he wakes up three years after the horrific events on the USG Ishimura. The Ishimura was a Planetcracker-class starship besieged by grotesque reanimations of its dead crew, known as “Necromorphs.”
After unearthing a strange artifact known as the Marker, Isaac finds himself on the Sprawl, a giant space station in orbit around Saturn. Unable to remember how he got here and plagued with demented visions of his dead girlfriend Nicole, he must survive another nightmarish outbreak of Necromorphs as he fights his way towards an answer he hopes will end all the chaos.
Key Features:
- Tear through space with full 360 degree movement.
- Wield a set of devastating tools to bring the terror to space. Impale Necromorphs into the walls with the Javelin, use improved telekinesis to turn limbs into deadly weapons, plant powerful dismembering trip mines, or create a hull-breach to suck a group of monsters out into space.
- Fire up Isaac’s suit boosters to rocket around in zero gravity like never before. Explore the depths of the Sprawl and encounter new weightless combat and physics-based puzzles with full 360⁰ movement.

Fantastic horror game that breaks the usual mold of "you can try and run and hide or avoid to save resources."
Combines action and horror seamlessly. No longer can you cower and hope the creatures avoid you, the screaming, hissing, gurgling necromorphs are instantly in your face and slicing at you. Suspenseful scenes done well and scary atmospheres aplenty. The only thing to mention is that disabling v-sync drastically changes the experience and must be done.
A must play for any horror fans.
A fun sequel to Dead Space 2. The end gets to be a bit too much of a grind without much strategy or skill involved. But I liked the narrative and the characters. The voice acting was excellent and the game play overall had that great Dead Space feel to it!
This is a worthy sequel to Dead Space 1. the only problem is its too scary haha, soo scary i might not even be able to finish it and im only playing it on normal because its too scary haha
This game is Amazing. The problem is EA, as it always has been and will be. The game currently does not run on modern machines, there are multiple threads with fixes. I spent 2 hours looking for the one that worked for me which is this one: https://steamcommunity.com/app/47780/discussions/0/3451465085384043949/
The game is good but if you can, avoid EA games like the plague.
Nevermind, the game still won't run. Fuck this company
This is my favorite video game. Everything from the art direction in every aspect, the gameplay, the sound, the music, the story in both fore and background, the actors performances, it's all so tight and well executed. If you asked me to point to a single game that swirls together all the things involved in making a game and nails all of them, I'd point you here. More than a couple games do a better job at all of the things I listed individually, but damn few even come close to presenting such a compelling and complete package.
Dead Space 2 is even better than Dead Space 1. It has all of the good things the first game has and builds upon them, has almost none of the bad ones, the graphics are better, Isaac now actually has a personality, the game has many setpiece sequences and the gameplay is faster, gorier and even more fun. It's one of those games that I consider a perfect sequel.
Dead Space 2 is a masterpiece of a game.
It excels at everything ranging from story telling and characters, gameplay, level design and pacing, graphics and sound design.
Dead Space 2 has had a significant impact on me personally - even outside of gaming - to an extent that I can say that I would not be in my life where I am today, hadn't I played this game 13 years ago for the first time.
And thus, it is and will always be the most important game I've ever put my hands on.
I just hope EA will never touch this game and try to remake it. As there is a high chance that they will fail to improve upon what Visceral Games built over a decade ago.
Best game in the series but unplayable on current PCs without a good amount of effort. Got passed the CTD on startup using MS Compatibility Administrator's Processor Line options. Made it into the game finally to get to seeing how bad the mouse feels, found the fix for that. Played through some of the intro noticing a bunch of things seemed off/missing from the console version to realize that too high of an FPS ruins the physics and cut scenes, only it crashes to desktop again if I use Nvidia Control Panel or RTSS to cap FPS and the in game vsync is 30fps but feels more like a jittery 15fps tops...
this game gives me an arsenal of tools and still manages to make me hesitant to check out a room with no encounters
Right up there with Resident Evil 4 as one of the greatest action/horror titles of all time.
Dead Space 2 is an exceptional sequel that not only builds upon the strengths of its predecessor but also refines and expands them to create a masterclass in survival horror.
This game delivers a perfect blend of heart-pounding action, psychological terror, and emotional depth, cementing its place as one of the finest entries in the genre!
Once again, players step into the shoes of Isaac Clarke, now a more vocal and fully fleshed-out protagonist.
The game wastes no time thrusting you into chaos, opening with one of the most intense and memorable sequences in gaming history.
From that moment on, Dead Space 2 never lets up, keeping you on edge with its relentless pacing and expertly crafted scares.
The gameplay is tighter and more polished than ever!
Combat retains the strategic dismemberment mechanic that made the first game so unique, but the improved weapon variety and smoother controls make every encounter feel fresh and exhilarating.
The zero-gravity sections are vastly improved, offering more freedom of movement and adding an exciting new dimension to exploration and combat.
The Sprawl is a terrifyingly immersive setting, with its diverse environments ranging from eerie residential quarters to hauntingly quiet schools and churches.
The sound design remains a standout feature, with every creak, whisper, and Necromorph screech contributing to an almost unbearable tension.
The game’s visuals are stunning, showcasing intricate details and gruesome effects that bring the horrors of the Sprawl to life...
Isaac’s struggle with his traumatic past and deteriorating mental state is deeply compelling, adding a psychological layer to the horror.
The game’s narrative expertly balances action-packed moments with quieter, introspective scenes that give Isaac’s journey real heart.
The addition of Ellie Langford as a strong and likable ally further enriches the story, providing a glimmer of hope amidst the darkness...
Dead Space 2 also excels in its variety of gameplay moments.
From intense boss battles and adrenaline-pumping set pieces to quieter, puzzle-solving sections, the game keeps you engaged and constantly guessing what’s next!
In every way, Dead Space 2 is a worthy successor to the original.
It’s a thrilling, terrifying, and emotionally resonant journey that improves on its predecessor while carving its own identity.
Whether you’re a fan of the first game or new to the series, Dead Space 2 is an unmissable experience that deserves a spot in every horror fan’s library!
It's a good game, I really had fun and horror while playing. I would advise playing the first game though, since it literally is what the whole story has been built up upon.
On PC However, it DOES have major issues upon start up. Crashes and out sync, specifically for modern computers. There is a work around that may or may not fix these issues. I'm simple enough to just enjoy this masterpiece on console.
Quick review, I haven't played much of the game (I own it on PS3) but I surfed the reviews before buying it and wanted to put it out there that it works perfectly for me, and it did not launch the EA app at all! So if that's your worry, it's not a problem.
this game is good, I really love Dead Space 2. the reason why I am giving it a negative review is that every time you want to play DS2 you have to do so many things to get it to open. just buy this on a console instead so it actually works
Game wont run crashes immediately on newer computers what a shame.
dead space 2 is a masterpiece but the limit to 5 activation's is a joke. EA wants you to be mindful about how many times you install the game on different computers i.e. be careful about upgrading, ever. funny thing is it took me not even 5 mins to get around their dumb ass drm and i can play again.
Just keep that in mind. you may, in the future need to do a work around to play this.
and just FYI to you EA (and every other company), you will never stop people getting around the ability to play your game. if we have to steal, we will and there's nothing you can do about it so get over it.
7/10
Dead Space 2 is easily worth the 5 USD I paid for it. However, I've been greatly spoiled by the Dead Space 1 Remake, and this was a significant step down in style and quality.
This game captured a lot of the same feel from the first game and you absolutely need to play it if you liked the first one. The voice actor for the MC was great and I can see why they brought him back to reprise his role for the DS1 Remake. The main female lead was super likable. It has a great horror "feel" and captures a lot of fear elements that make a great survival horror game (e.g., Resident Evil 2).
However, the game suffers from the same problems as Resident Evil 6 & 8, emphasizing too much fast-paced game-play. The enemy encounters happen at breakneck speed compared to the first game and robs you of the true value of the genre. Jump scares are great, but when you're dead before you know it because of some enemy jumping out of the dark and taking half your health before being finished off by five enemies surrounding you, you just get irritated and the thrill is gone. I never felt like I got a chance to take a look at the enemies I was fighting and really appreciate the mechanics and design of each one. There was a strategy for beating each enemy in DS1 but DS2 just feels like a very long version of the shooting gallery mini-game/side quest from DS1. Too much call of duty energy for a game that should be a slow burn. The mental pressure put on a player from the regenerating Necromorphs in DS1 was executed to near perfection like Mr. X from Resident Evil 2. The regenerator enemy in this game doesn't show up until the very last chapter and just feels like an ammo/ability sink because of the army of enemies dog-piling you faster than you can move or react .
Other negatives:
- The controller support was not good and I was forced to play with janky keyboard & mouse controls instead.
- An antiquated equipment upgrade system that you won't use because it's not worth the time since you really just need to buy lots of ammo on higher difficulties. To beat the final boss on the middle difficulty, you'll need at least 350 rounds for a fully upgraded pulse rifle. If you make it there with less, I hope you have a manual save at the buy station, lol.
- The pointless quick time events that were mindlessly shoved into every game from the 2007-2013 era are a huge pain.
- I had to do the 10+ processor core fix
- if you die before completing the trip to the solar array station, there's a glitch that forces you to load from the manual save point, losing at least 15-30 minutes of time if you only die twice in the section.
Overall, I liked the game for the story since I already played DS1 and there were some moments that recaptured the same feel of the first game. However, the age of the game shows, and the remake of DS1 is the far superior gaming experience for the genre. I'm super disappointed they probably aren't going to remake DS2 because of under-performing sales numbers (only 2 million copies). Slowing down the pace of the game-play and re-balancing the game mechanics to more effectively scale difficulty would make this game a 10/10 experience.
I only have 2 main complaints that bothered me a wee bit:
The first one would be the "weapon wheel". It's pure shite. You have to memorise what key brings you to what gun, which is doable, but it's really frustrating to deal with in a intensive combat situation.
The second one is how many enemies are thrown at you. I don't remember the first game being like that. (there's been a while since I've played it, but still) Sometimes, you have to face hordes of enemies, coming fae everywhere. And they being bullet sponges at the end of the game just doesnae help at all.
But, aside fae that, I loved it: the atmosphere, the weapon designs and everything, in general. A classic and a must-play
you need install fixes to play this game smoothly in 2024 new machine. other wise is okay
Overall really good upgrade from dead space 1 enjoyed all the new elements they added. Dead space is good at creating atmosphere and moments that you'll remember for a long time as iconic and 2 also did a really good job
really solid squeal. if you've played one you gotta play 2
Issac is still my goat....
The game is amazing and i love it.
EA however.... being EA, must by the nature of their very existence ruin everything it touches by making the game not run half the time because they violently fisted into the very soul of the game a third party launcher that stops the game from working.
Why would they do that?
Honestly, i don't think even EA understands why they do half the stuff they do. Much like the Xenomorphs in the game they just slither around killing anything that was once living and beautiful out of instinct.
tried everything aside from the mod link, total bullshit .i shouldnt have to perform risky mods and use 3rd party code to make a game work i payed for
Played through all of it when it initially came out. Love the game. The needle scene has scarred me forever.
Never have I had an issue with this game. Play the series and keep in touch if they add on to the series beautiful.
Finally got around to playing the remake I got from PS Plus, and I immediately picked this up. Holy shit. Play this game. 10/10.
Good game, really solid combat - fun weapons, and cool monsters.
For being over a decade old, this feels like it came out yesterday. Everything that made the first game awesome applies here. Atmosphere, graphics, gameplay, story, characters are all top notch. I even love the more action focused take as it never takes away from the horror. Near masterpiece.
Very Atmospheric Game! 10/10, don't play Dead Space 3, just play 1, 2 and the remake.
Where do i start? An absolute classic that holds up against other classics like resident evil 4 and even the modern remakes. Terrifying but accessible, the first time i played this 11 years ago i couldn't put it down. If you've only played the recent remake of DS1 and looking to see what becomes of Isaac next, this masterpiece still holds up extremely well. My favourite horror game of all time.
whatever lupine reaper said
not a deadspace fan so i cant say anything bad but the combat is fun
good game ever been playing this game since i was 4 and now im 14 and still playing till this day
I'm running on Windows 11. I tried to play this game and immediately ran in to screen resolution problems that made almost all of the menus partially hidden and unreachable in either full screen mode or not. Tricking it to a higher resolution did not solve the problem. it look like about 30% of the game screen is hidden and the pane jumps erratically instead of scrolling the the hidden portions. Game is unplayable.
Just beat the first game, now the second. I understand the love of this franchise. I wan't a fan initially of them giving him a voice and sometimes being quipy, but it grew on me. Overall, great game.
Amazing game to this day, runs perfectly on Steam Deck at native resolution
Every bit as perfect as it was on release. This is one of the best survival-horror games ever made, the best horror sequel ever made, and the best game in the Dead Space series. Gameplay, enemy AI, unlockables, performances, score, graphics even after 13 years - all of it holds up. Visceral's closure was a true loss to the industry, the amount of passion poured into this series continues to shine through the in-universe signage, the Marker language, the references to other Dead Space media. EA killed a truly passionate, one of a kind series, and after the Dead Space Remake (great game btw) underperformed, they killed the series a second time.
Buy from a keysite. Through steam, only EA gets your money and Visceral is long gone.
Install the mouse fix on the steam community guides page, turn off Vsync and limit your fps to 60 in either geforce experience or amd adrenalin. All you need in order to play the game on modern systems without hitches.
Wonderful from start to finish.
The game is fun, stays true to the original. Only real complaint is that EA gives you upgrade handouts and ruins the natural progression of the game, by making you op off the bat. But that can be fixed by just not using them.
It moves fast, has great monsters around many corners and literally dropping from the ceiling and all that, looks fantastic for 2011, and runs on a lower-powered PC.
I love this game. After playing DS on iOS, I got hooked on the games for PC. I really dont play anything else else some D2016 or DE2. Best game I've played in 10 years.
Definitely a great sequel to an awesome series. Even in 2024 it's still awesome to play. Sucks there's no achievements but at least the story alone is worth the purchase. Only minor complaint I have is needing a node to reach certain upgrades is a bit weird and unnecessary. Should be more like the DS1 remake where all upgrade paths are connected. If you want to play this game for the story alone I definitely recommend it. 9/10 would dead space 2 again
Graphics quality: 10/10 The game play: 9/10 I recommend it, its a fun game.
Like returning from space into a warm, but sharp necromorphic embrace.
Takes everything from the original and improves on it vastly. More linear than I originally remember it back on the Xbox 360, but every moment counts and still a joy from beginning to end.
All weapons feel purposeful, puzzles are light but break up the action nicely, and enemy diversity keeps things interesting. Still holds up today and would love a remake!
How does EA ruin everything they touch? This was a great game and EA can get fucked for ruining it. I cannot stress this enough, fuck EA.
While I would recommend this game, I would only recommend it if you played the Deadspace 1 Remake. Many of the reviews say DS2 is superior, but I do not find that to be true. The DS1 Remake is far superior. I snagged this on a steep discount at the same time as DS3, which I'll play next, but only because the narrative ends with the trilogy and I'd love to see how they wrap up the story.
not as aesthetically or atmospherically consistent as the first game but it bumps up set piece variety and action as a result, while still being horror-oriented. fire ass game.
A very fun sequel. It may be a bit old now, but it ran well and was still enjoyable. I'm looking forward to playing the 3rd game now.
This sequel competes directly with the first game. The story is great, and the game-play feels dialed in. Dead Space 3 definitely does not play like the first two, and the second in the series just might be my favorite. The environments are really well thought out and the attention to detail is not missed on me!
Still holds up after 13 years! Great set pieces, great story, and the zero-G sections are still out of this world. Highly Recommended - 9/10
Its a great game all around, the story is good, the how the weapons act are realistic. Can't wait to play the third.
While no game is perfect, this one comes the closest out of all the games I’ve played. I’ve played it over a dozen times in the past decade, and it’s still beautiful. If I had to nitpick, it would be that the plasma cutter outshines the other weapons, requiring multiple playthroughs to fully experience other weapons in game. Other than that, it's 10/10 for me.
