Only the Dead Survive.
A massive deep-space mining ship goes dark after unearthing a strange artifact on a distant planet. Engineer Isaac Clarke embarks on the repair mission, only to uncover a nightmarish blood bath the ship's crew horribly slaughtered and infected by alien scourge. Now Isaac is cut off, trapped, and engaged in a desperate fight for survival.
- Strategically dismember the Necromorph enemies limb by bloody limb.
- Zero gravity combat means terror can strike from anywhere.
- Uncover the horrific truth of this shocking thriller.
Game Features:
- Messy monster slaying
The Necromorphs are unlike any enemies you've seen before. Headshots do about as much damage to them as flicking rubber bands. To survive, you'll need to dismember their insect-like limbs, one at a time. - Improvised weapons
There aren't many traditional firearms aboard the Ishimura, but there's plenty of stopping power in Isaac's toolkit. Send horizontal or vertical blasts of energy at enemies with the Plasma Cutter, remotely control a high-speed sawblade with the Disc Ripper, and fill hallways with wide swaths of destruction with the Line Gun. Switch things up with alternate fire modes, and purchase upgrades to increase ammo, power, and reload speed. - Real-time attacks.
Whatever you do, don’t drop your guard. Everything takes place in real-time. That means any action you take, whether it be reloading or digging through your inventory, gives the Necromorphs a perfect opportunity to attack. This nightmare has just begun and it’s up to get to the bottom of what happened here.

One of the best Space horror games. This game is definitely not for the faint of heart and who get startled easily.
Pros-
1) Amazing graphics for the time.
2) Excellent creature designs for the different types of necromorphs.
3) Good story and great level design maps for the different parts of USG Ishimura.
4) Good weapons catalogue and the upgrading technique.
5) Loved the use of statis and kinesis modules in the game.
Cons-
1) Combat can be improved.
2) Startling creature noises can get irritating after a point.
3) In some levels, the number of creatures attacking from different directions can get too much for the player to react.
Verdict - 8.5 / 10
PROS:
+This game stands the test of time.
+A solid survivor horror game set in space.
+The musical score and ambience is superb.
+Still worth the amount of money I invested again to get the game again on Steam.
+Play the second game in the series. It's just as good.
CON:
-The way EA has mishandled the franchise.
This is peak gaming. Not only does the game feel great, but it's a visually stunning game even without the remaster! Seriously impressed with this franchise; finishing DS3 and the DLC this week.
An all time classic shooter horror game, very grindy but also super rewarding
I haven't played any horror games in a while, but god damn -- this game scares the crap out of me with its sheer intensity of its high -volume noises!! Not gonna lie!
The eerie ambient sounds aboard the desolate spaceship crank up the tension, making every step forward a nerve-wracking experience. And the enemies? Absolutely disgusting and terrifying! At first, every encounter felt like life-or-death, but as you progress, you start to adapt and face them with more confidence.
I haven't finished the story yet, but it's gripping enough to keep me hooked. I can't wait to see how it all unfolds!
I LOVED the game. However, since the "new" one has come up, I noticed "issues" with the original. Currently, the problem is that, when starting a new game on "Hard", the game will not allow me to progress beyond finding the plasma cutter. Continuously, where the first necromorph you can shoot SHOULD be, there is nothing. The crewman being attacked is being attacked by air. Without being able to kill that necro, you cannot go through the door and progress. This is ESPECIALLY upsetting because there is NO save point before this...meaning you have to go through the WHOLE OPENING SEQUENCE before getting to this point to try again. I tried it on medium, and there's no problem. I have been through this point already in hard mode, so I know this wasn't a problem previously. Why only now when there's a "Newer" version available? EA: Fix this problem someone in your organization created. I wanted to play through one more time in hard mode and use the cool armor and stuff I'd earned previously. However, I notice that the skins are gone, and the game won't allow me to play. Is this what you have to resort to in order to try and generate sales of a game I"d already planned on getting after one last playthrough??
The Dead Space remake brilliantly revitalizes the 2008 survival horror classic, enhancing nearly every aspect while preserving its terrifying essence. The USG Ishimura is more immersive than ever, with stunningly detailed environments, revamped zero-gravity sections, and a new interconnected design that encourages exploration and backtracking. These updates bring a modern touch to the original’s atmosphere of dread, creating an experience that feels both familiar and fresh.
Combat remains a gruesome highlight, demanding strategic dismemberment of necromorphs while introducing new layers of gore and enemy variety. Enhancements like circuit breakers and Stasis canisters add tactical depth, while quality-of-life improvements, such as manual flight controls and reimagined sequences like the asteroid defense, refine rougher edges of the original. The Plasma Cutter and other weapons shine in combat, making each encounter feel dynamic and tense.
With its meticulously crafted upgrades and attention to detail, this remake not only honors the original but sets a new standard for remasters. Whether you're a returning fan or a newcomer, Dead Space is a masterclass in sci-fi horror, blending strategic gameplay, a gripping story, and a hauntingly atmospheric world. It’s an unforgettable journey into terror.
Controls a little jank, but the charm is not lost on me and it holds up as a really fun game to play. Only 3 hours in now but I've been having a lot of fun, not a lot of scares yet but I'm also a lot older and more jaded, maybe when I'm further in I'll get spooked!
An exceptional video game. Apparently my previous playtime was just a bit of 2 (not counting 3, because who cares?), and I had actually never played through the original before. I'll likely play the remake at some point as well, but we will see! The weapon variety was always a bit strange, as I ended up just not using my third weapon slot, because I felt strong enough with the Ripper and Line Gun as my full arsenal aside from the default Plasma Cutter. This did cause a bit of a scare at the final boss, as my inventory was full to bursting with ripper blades, which wasn't ideal for that fight. Made it through in one attempt regardless! The weapons in Dead Space are so memorable, even if I didn't touch a few of them. Do note that the controller controls suck for the turret section. I used a keyboard for that and nothing else.
Now for the star of the show: The sound design! I played this game set so loud, which is not my habit. The sounds of the ship creaking and falling apart, the ominous and varying whispers, the distant tinny voices of the security system, the dullness of everything but the inside of your suit when you enter a vacuum. Chef's kiss. Stupendous.
Overall, A tightly-packed and excellent gaming experience. It gave me something I'm not entirely used to; I often found myself entering a strangely zen state while playing it. A sort of anxiety-induced meditation, if that makes sense. High marks.
I also have to briefly gush about the UI choices. It's all in-world, and it's so classy. Your healthbar is along your spine on your engineer suit, along with your stasis meter. Your ammo count is shown by the weapon. The menu is an actual HUD that Isaac has to actually pull up and look at. It's stylish and elegant and I love it.
Played this for the first time recently and it turned into one of my favorite horror games. An absolute classic
Absolutely recommend it !! the best scifi horror game ive ever had the priviledge of playing hold onto your seat because the immersion will make you crap your pants
Waste of money. Keys are locked and cannot be configured, even when trying various hacks from google search. Mouse movement sluggish and even playing with xbox controller still need a mouse to turn the player. Not recommended!
Once you play this game, you will understand how the name 'Dead Space' is everywhere even among those who don't play the game. I love how the game is not too complicated in terms of puzzling. Imagine, instead of confronting various types of aliens that you need to deal with, you spend more time walking around with no clue where to go or what to do. You won't like it, right? We all know the reason for playing this type of game. So, this game knows its audience pretty well. The story progression is simple. It tells you almost everything, including where to do or what to do, but to accomplish them, well, it depends on your skills.
I felt in love with the style and creepy atmosphere of the game and I really like the model of the main character. I bought it a long time ago and I am glad I played it only now in its full glory. This kind of games with very dark scenes are especially good on OLED displays. There is something especially creepy to be alone in space, knowing some unfriendly alien form of life is transferring behind steel walls of a spaceship and at any second can attack and kill you.
Very good game, space survival horror before new politics if you know what i mean (guiño guiño)
Without a doubt, THE best horror game I have ever played. This games ambiance is absolutely stellar, it had me checking my back time and time again to make sure there wasnt anything behind me. The Ishimura creaks and groans, and you can hear things running through the vents, screams, human or otherwise, echo throughout. The game keeps you on your toes the entire time, I literally could not recommend it enough!
If you have a machine that's able to run the remake get it instead of this version, if not, well this is an option. Although it's old, it's great and you can still get scared by it, has a fun story and gameplay. Like always, graphics might deceive you but trust me, it's awesome.
Still one of my favorite games! It's Resident Evil 4.... IN SPACE! Can't wait to try the remake that came out a few years ago.
-Story is absurd and predictable
-The sound designs are not for fear but for torture of the ear
-Game mechanics cause headaches and nausea
-Monsters are so boring
-Characters do not provide a lively atmosphere at all
it was the WORST game i've ever played
Also, Resident evil 4 (orginal) is mentioned in the reccomendations. But this game cannot be match for it
(Game that everyone praised was nothing)
10/2
This game is amazing with its gameplay, music, atmosphere, tension. A masterclass in horror action games
However, I got too scared and had to turn it off.
I've always been a huge fan of apocalyptic games, but 'DEAD SPACE' franchise delivers cosmic survival horror on another level. I played 'DEAD SPACE 3' long ago on my first PC around 2014-2015. I still remember that feeling of a fresh and deadly horror atmosphere that the game gave me but, until today I never got an opportunity to experience the actual origin of the story. After all these years I kept every single spoiler about the main story of both 'DEAD SPACE 1' & 'DEAD SPACE 2' far away and I'm so glad I did. This was such an awesome experience and even though the game is around 16 years old everything including story, graphics, gameplay, and art/sound design was crafted by heart. The only problem I faced was FPS problems so locking it under 120 FPS was a great solution. I can't wait to experience the second part of this masterpiece and eventually re-imagine all those memories from the third one!
This is one of my favourite series. It can be a bit difficult, allocate points to defense and damage and max the suit, and you will be good .
This is a phenomenal horror game set in outer space. It's a brilliant cuisine formed from a melting pot of terrific influences. If you like games like silent hill, resident evil, Half-life, bioshock and system shock (The last of which, I think this game was supposed to be the third game to in conception) Then you'll probably like this game for the puzzles, combat, world building, character building and just everything really. It also has its inspirations from cinema like the thing, alien and event horizon.
This game has an ever intriguing mystery that you find out clues through text logs, audio logs, the environments and connotations from some of the characters.
The combat feels amazing although in the beginning it might take some time getting used to the controls, but you'll get a hang of it in no time :)
The sound design is perfect as it really is centred around being in a space ship. Sometimes you'll shit yourself in fear of a dreadful sand and it's just pipes or something falling down the main tunnel. It's very atmospheric. But despite the atmosphere it takes a great lesson from Half-life by not taking you out of the action with any cut scenes.
I would just love to gush about everything to do with this game, but you have to check it out yourself. It's a must for any fan of horror games. I got this on sale for £7. If you don't want to wait for another sale, trust that the current price is worth it. You'll definitely find it worth it after completion. I hope you enjoy :)
Great story, excellent gameplay and overall an incredible game
its literally re4 but in space and its cool, and awesome and oh my gawd i edge to the sound design and the ui in this game (im 6'11 btw)
Amazing game that stands the test of time. Great voice work and excellent story telling. Simply a masterclass in horror personified along with the intricacies of maintaining atmosphere along with holding your breath for the next fright. The enemy design is well done and fantastic for a 2008 title and can surely give you a fright. The soldier necromorph was one of my favorite enemy types right up there with the Regenerator. 10/10 Definitely pick this up on a sale for sure
The delayed responses to inputs, lower visual clarity and jarring sound mixing makes fighting in this game an enjoyably nerve wrecking experience. you cant capture that in a remaster
"Be an Engineer they said, it'll be fun they said." This is peak survival horror, words can't express how good it is you'll just have to play and find out
I played this 13-14 years ago and I remember really enjoying it, playing it now I realize how good this game really is. The atmosphere, the music, the shooting, the weapon variety. Truly a masterpiece in ambience, space horror at its best.
Technical Issues (Many)
You should try to cap the framerate at 60, but you have to do it with an external program since the internal Vsinc caps it at 30 (so dumb).
I was able to finish the game with uncapped fps but I had many crashes.
I suggest using the mouse fixer that you can find in the guides to remove the weird “joystick feeling”.
Still holds up extremely well 16 years later. Really great sound design reminded me of Thief 1/2, there is a lot that horror games today could learn about the atmosphere good sound design can build
Instead of optimizing this game, they tried to make it again from scratch.
Watched an arm spin around like a helicopter before phasing through the wall
10/10 literally playable
We all know Dead Space is an amazing game... but EA doesn't deserve a good review.
A classic for scary games, although right now theres a newer version it still a good game
I will start by saying the game is unplayable with it's current port unless you are comfortable with modding, and downloading external programs to supplement the game. Looking past that and once the mouse sense and gpu profile mods were installed,
The game is great! Still holds up as a first time player, and I thoroughly enjoyed my playthrough of the game. They don't make games like they used to, it seems.
It is an excellent game for heart patients, hypertensive patients, and people suffering from anxiety and panic attacks.
It's great therapy, it helps you become stronger, more resilient, and helps you recover more quickly and effectively.
It is a great game, it is based on Lovecraft terror style, it keeps the tension, and the horror up.
Different from the second game, in which is a aim, shoot game, Dead Space 1, holds the horror, it keeps you tense, it gives you something to be scared about, even after the game ends.
Excellent game! Just perfect.
16 years later and this game still looks amazing for it's age. It's like the first time every time I replay, the only game that a spook I know is comin' still gets me sometimes.
Truly a masterpiece I must recommend you experience for yourself, if you haven't already. 9/10
Yes, me encantó.
Juego bien hecho, sin bugs, experiencia disfrutable, buen survival horror, dificultad adecuada para disfrutarlo y divertirse, historia media meh pero good enough.
It's Res Evil 4 in space. Don't believe me? There's even a shooting gallery minigame. I also love Res Evil 4.
I say this a lot but It what can I say. You can't beat a classic :)!
This game is still scary and great to play.
The atmosphere and environmental design created here reminds me why I love survival horror games so much
Thought if I try a horror game, I try one of the best. It did its job and after at least one heart attack, I put it aside ... for "health" reasons ofc, I could otherwise play it anytime I want because I am not scared.
I give Dead Space 1 a 7/10. Worth full price too
Dead Space fulfills the action survival horror fantasy while succeeding in keeping the horror elements intact unlike most of its contemporaries at the time. Mainly due to the iconic necromorph designs and dreadful atmosphere. It's satisfying working your way up from unconventional weapons barely scraping by to clearing rooms worth of enemies with ease.
How repetitive the narrative gets during the middle alongside dull puzzles/exploration at the end is my issue with DS1. The last leg of the game feels like it doesn’t know what else it can do with the concept from a gameplay perspective and is running the player through the motions. Enemy variety also isn’t used to its fullest so you spend most of the runtime fighting the same 2-4 types despite there being over 7.
A story about a man looking for his wife.
Finds a hive mind instead.
Stomps his way through the drones.
Kills the queen.
Goes home.
Only uses his feet and his right arm.
Absolute chad.
Other than slight controller sensitivity issues (that can be rectified with mods or Steam custom controller configurations) Dead Space is a pure terrifying joy that holds up 15+ years later.
It's 2024 (nearly 2025) and still it worth to buy this game. (Not for 20 USD)
Yes, there are lots of sci-fi horror games that you just start alone in the middle of a ship that is centuries away from any civilization but this one is different.
Yes, there are monsters out there that are a combination of undead and alien. God bless this is a unique combination. We had mushroom zombies, virus zombies, bacteria zombies, and just zombies before, but not alien zombies.
Yes, there are some futuristic amazing weapons with extraordinary names such as cutters. But an extraordinary melee weapon is not forgotten too. (which I never used)
Actually the story has a potential, the problem is it is not well structured and detailed even if you read the comic books of the game. If you are into details, lots of your questions will be unanswered and after a while, you will feel that the story is just a simple creation just to make an alien-zombie (or zombie-alien) game.
The "easy" mode of the game is overdose easy. you feel like cheating during the fights. The horror game becomes a Serious Sam style monster massacre. So I recommend to play at least "normal" difficulty. Otherwise you will not even realize the big thing you just killed was the boss.
The game has some platform aspects which is nice. I like the no-gravity jump parts, even though sometimes it was difficult to realize where to go. Puzzle parts were weak and it was very obvious that they were there just to put some challenge in front of the players.
The suit, and weapon upgrades are exciting and the capacity is limited so you need to choose wisely while upgrading the weapons. Plus you cannot carry all of them, so you need to specialize since their advantages and disadvantages make a huge difference. Plus you cannot carry unlimited ammunition, health, and other equipment as your inventory has a limit. But you can use that limit however you want.
Thumbs up! Yes because even after 16 years it is fun to play. But the name had to be "Kill the Zombaliens".
Mouse and keyboard straight up just do not work in this, at all. Tried with and without the mouse fix and still does not work at all, game doesn't register any inputs whatsoever.
Then I tried to play with controller, which worked for the menus, until I got into the game, where everything works EXCEPT FOR THE RIGHT STICK, WHICH I NEED TO LOOK AROUND AND AIM.
No mention of this anywhere on the forums or google, tried validating files and reinstalling the game and it's still a problem.
What a waste of my money
They never put much effort into the quality of this port. You really have to tinker with the controls to make it halfway playable, and even then they can glitch on you at the most inopportune times.
Now that the remake is out there's even less likelihood that EA will put any effort into fixing what they should have gotten right the first time. I was actually thinking about getting the rest of the old series, but the experience here has convinced me otherwise.
The Binding Of Isaac 2
🎃
Since its spooktober right now I figured that would be good idea to revisit this game
And after beating "Totally Possible" mode I decided that I can write a review about it
Aged poorly....kinda?
🔴
🟡And most of all - playing this game on modern hardware is a pain - since with V-sync it forces 30 FPS
And without V-sync its tearing all over the place even with locked framerate
Its still playable and tolerable after a while but bear it in mind anyway
🟢LMAO forget about that - I fixed that somehow ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Better System Shock concept wise
🟡You basically stuck on a mining station deep in space. Completely alone versus tons of disgusting Space Zombies. All your friends are either far away, dead or its just the logs that try to "explain" things around you.
Between each chapter you either trying to fix something or finding something, entering and exiting a tram station in the meantime.
At the end - you discover that you're pretty much insane and also dealing with a giant Hive Mind whilst escaping from a dead planet.
Resident Evil 4 in Space
💚Everyone knows that this game was inspired by Capcom's hit game
So yeah - same shoulder camera, same mechanics like breaking boxes, taking ammo from dead enemies. A shop with weapons and ammo and also upgrades for your gun
🟢Is it fun? Yeap, still very enjoyable
Although after like half of the game - you'll start experience heavy ammo lackage so you are forced to actually into buying that
There are some difficulty spikes too.
Like Regenerator Encounters are deadly
And some of the Environment Hazards are just unfair
Silent Protag and some forgettable faces
🟡Character wise - the only thing you'd like to hear in this game - is the Marker's whispers.
Sound department did a great job
🟡While music part is totally Meh
🟢The sound design is top notch, everything is perfect. You can hear machinery works, moans and screams in the dark, LOUD SCARY TRAIN NOISES. Silent Vacuum and so much more. To say that this game is immersive is an understatement. I love it
Although its pretty linear and sometimes boring
🟡This game can easily hook you in with its atmosphere. But the level design....mostly its the same color corridors, toilets. Granted - its a giant ship basically but c'mon.
I hate System Shock with a passion but at least that franchise managed to make every floor unique.
Here I can remember only Medical, Hydroponics. That Room With a Bunch Of Whispering Corpses. Shooting Range, Z-ball court and Planet Surface.
Very replayable tho
🟢After you beat the game once - "Totally Possible" Mode is unlocked - which is way more fun
You can also try to beat the game with Plasma Cutter only - mostly for lulz since this gun is OP and the game is easier that way
If you still want to play - you can upgrade every weapon to the max
After that - you've seen it all
TL;DR:
🟢FUN, not exactly scary but can suprise you from time to time
🟡But definetely janky here and there
Is it better than Remake? No, Remake figured the level pacing way better than OG. And of course - visually its way more immersive
Although I still hate woke changes there too.
👍Still, a good game to blast some Space Zombies in it.
No wonder Isaac is silent here. Have you heard about his childhood and abusive Mom?!
While the remake is amazing. The original still holds up even after 16 years later. Runs out of the box on the deck but needs few fixes to play on Pc.
