When I bought the game, I thought about a top-down shooter and a cyberpunk theme in first place.
But I didn't know that it's a hack and slash game, which I actually hate. Still I finished the game on hard level difficulty...
Gameplay is super cool. You are free to change your skills any moment to try different combinations. There are many different weapons: swords, maces, machineguns, flamethrowers, lasers, frostgun, etc.
Visuals are good, but I think that there is WAY TOO MUCH of red color and I believe that some animations may cause epilepsy. Also I wish level appearance would be more diverse.
Game is pretty short but still has nice plot. Characters are funny.
Also I would say that the game is well optimized - usually it takes a second too respawn after death and jump into battle again.
BRUTAL AND DYNAMIC!
This is genuinely a fun game if you know what you're getting into, overall a B+ for sure, mayyybe A-, so like a 7/10, but a good 7/10, mayyybe even 8/10, but its obviously not a large budget massive game, but not buggy or boring or anything, I could give it an 8/10 I suppose
Gameplay-wise its played like an isometric hack and slash, where reaction and speed is important, its important to react to and dodge enemy attacks, you must act fast but also mindfully, there is a dodge that doesn’t give you immunity so you must avoid attacks, you also get a v effective shield and the ability to see everything slower, and ofc a bunch of other skills, I WOULD QUALIFY THIS AS A DIFFICULT GAME, and I’m writing this in all caps as a warning to someone who wants something more fun and chill, much like you must account for every attack in soulslikes, this is way different but you must act very fast to both avoid many strong attacks, even from weaker mobs, and attack the enemies
Story-wise its a decent cyberpunk dystopian story, dark enough, original, interesting enough
+ great world building
+ good art style and decent graphics
+ good sound design with a great soundtrack for this sort of a game
+ a fun experience, completable in a day, doesn’t take forever doing things, and even the more repetitive bits don’t get boring
+ quick, action packed and speed-based combat
- dialog options that dont matter
- flawed story, overall decent, but at some point loses any symbolism and is just fascinating things happening for the sake of a fun story, but that’s not a horrible thing, its alright, but i feel it could be even better given the world building
- sometimes gets button-mashy and hard to follow through even though the controls start to feel clunky
- to reiterate the previous point, YOUR CHARACTER DOES NOT MELEE IN THE DIRECTION YOURE RUNNING, YOU STILL NEED TO TURN THE RIGHT STICK, which gets really annoying on a controller
- sometimes gets a bit annoying in combat, but that’s a minor drawback, as I have seen FAR, FAR more annoying parts in great games
Next game when?
OH SWEET CHROME JESUS, PLUG ME IN!
A great twin stick shooter with some amazing visuals and an outstanding soundtrack
Short, extremely difficult, and possibly seizure inducing. But that soundtrack is straight 🔥🔥🔥
It's shame the game isn't longer and doesn't let you revisit Rengkok South after the finale nor tell you when you are leaving Rengkok South for the last time that you won't be coming back. It would also be nice to visit more areas of the city and the gameplay is more linear than I would like but at least the combat is more interesting than a similar game (The Ascent) while that game is much bigger and non-linear. The game has some great music too.
New kink unlocked.
Anyway, i bought this game literally five minutes before the Steam New Year sale ended and wasn’t expecting to be so impressed by this game as i usually don’t enjoy these types of games. I ended up playing for almost six hours during my first session.
I got this on sale for 3 bucks, and I'd say that's a pretty good deal, but i probably wouldn't pay much more for it. the art is good, but the sheer amount of visual effects completely drown out all visual cues. it's hard to tell when you're taking damage, it's hard to tell where the enemies are, it's hard to tell whether your shield is even up, especially when the teleporting enemies start showing up. At any given time, there are about 3 explosions happening onscreen. It's hard to tell when I'm low on energy or health. If there's an audio cue, i certainly wasn't able to hear it over the music, enemy dialogue, and explosions. When I die, I'm often not entirely sure what happened. There's also a huge difficulty spike with one random miniboss around halfway through the game, it took me about 3x as many attempts as the final boss
The story also doesn't make much sense. There's a twist that comes out of nowhere at the very end and it's more comical than anything. You never really interact with a character more than, like, 3 times other than the lady in your head, who I don't think is ever actually given a name. Your whole goal is to save a brother you have no emotional attachment to, and once you do it, the game just ends. The game is 5 hours long, and the last 10 minutes felt super rushed, but honestly, I'm thankful it didn't keep going, because the gameplay loop was wearing pretty thin. Also, the skill tree gave me the impression that the game would be a lot longer. by the time I beat the game, I only had, like, a third of the skills. Even the ones I did unlock, most of them seemed pretty impractical, and I never really had any reason to use any abilities other than the shield.
The game is severely unpolished. A lot of things feel tacked on and incomplete. Maybe, given more time, it could have been something more, but as it stands, this is a cool 2 hour game that was stretched into a pretty not great 5 hour game.
Great fun, great gameplay, cool story. I'd compare it to Hardcore Henry in game form, but with a cyberpunk theme. Doesn't get lost in the weeds of the story, just lets it act as a vessel for the gameplay. The pace is fast, the humor dark, and despite it's small size it does a good job world building and making it feel real and lived in. Only complaint is a positive, too short! Would love to tear through more levels.
Cool game
unable to run it on the deck. it crashes the whole machine. Tried the linux native version and proton version with the same result. Do not buy it if you intend to play on deck.
pros:
- the combat is awesome and very fluid
- SA setting that's rare in cyberpunk media
- addicting gameplay loop
- soundtrack
- main hub despite being so small feels like a real place
- her
wish there was a sequel
*nod*
A really solid twin-stick shooter - the art-style is great, the soundtrack is fantastic, interesting plot. The only downside is the control scheme for the keyboard is pretty bad.
Great for a weekend!
Cool game
Fun little genre story with some goofy elements and a great atmosphere. If you are just interested in the story and world, make sure to have plenty of patience on hand to get you through the combat.
Fantastic music, good world building, decent set of skills. Combat encounters are fairly well designed, but the controls make some of the more challenging encounters an exercise in frustration.
Violent art.
Very good! Will be keeping an eye on what they release next
KILL THE BOSS
Smooth and varied gunplay with a cool cyberpunk aesthetic. Ok story. It's not going to blow you away but I enjoyed my time with it so I'd recommend it.

How come I never reviewed this game?
Bollocks, I've been still listening it's musics, back in the day, they used Sidewalks and Skeletons, Zamilka etc. and that was years and years and years before the cyberpunk and so-called tiktok/blade runner/collage trends. I liked it quite a lot, it offered a different gameplay, and even though it had its own complexities, it was an experience that didn't tire you out. Moreover, I still remember the concept of it's plot, AI and Identity crises, that means something, ain't it? After all those years, the market and expectations have changed, as have the players themselves. But I still think that of all the gamess I've experienced, if it has earned a permanent place in my memory, it deserves respect and a mention.
I think about your expectations nowadays, maybe you won't find the beauty that I found in this game in my time...
I wish that the devs would have pursued a second product or a brand-new but different experience. For all the fellas who bought it, enjoy your stay,
CyperPunk Miami!
War Crimes? That's a joke. I was a hero to these people!
Run of the mill, linear level enemy wave slasher and shooter.
Many different abilities to choose from, but they don't feel very impactful to the boring gameplay.
Some moments evoke Hotline Miami style and feel, but otherwise very bland and repetitive.
Works well on Steam Deck. Really like the mindless dialogues between characters which seems it was written by an AI. The wold is quite well presented and the characters as well. The gameplay is boring and repeats itself: same mobs + a boss at the end which all in all do the same. small difference sometimes. And has a layer of complexity that I did not enjoy. Mostly played the dash+sword combo to learn that the melee weapon has durability and after killing an x amount of enemies you go back to default weapon. i did not find the gameplay fun but i liked the concept.
This game has a "Hit stop" system such that when you kill enemies, the game freezes for a split second. This would be fine if done right, but it feels weird and I was convinced I was skipping frames. It also happens just shooting enemies too which is especially weird.
Some people may like this design choice but it's not for me.
dashmaxxer build is a sandevistan user's wet dream
Ruiner is a standout title in the cyberpunk action genre, delivering an intense, visually striking, and deeply engaging experience.
This top-down shooter takes players into a gritty, dystopian future where brutal combat, atmospheric storytelling, and mesmerizing aesthetics come together to create a game that's hard to put down.
While Ruiner is a remarkable experience, it’s not without its flaws. Some players might find the difficulty spikes frustrating, especially during later stages. Additionally, the story, while intriguing, occasionally leaves questions unanswered. However, these are minor quibbles in an otherwise stellar game.
Fantastic game but I do feel it was rushed at times. I beat it on normal mode with in 3 hours so it's quite short, and it isn't too hard either. I do feel the ending could've been more.. informative in a way. It leaves the player with a lot of questions which is good but at the same time, I would like certain questions answered. But I would still recommend the game to anyone who comes across it and likes this sort of genre.
Juicy game! Finished on my Steam Deck. Really backward controls ..

RUINER doesn't aim to be a long game—it aims to be a good game, and it succeeds.
With a short runtime of around 5 hours, the game throws out a bunch of combat mechanics at the player during the introductory tutorial. Some are more intuitive to grasp than others. However, once the real game starts, the player has the freedom to naturally gravitate toward using and upgrading the ones they like while ignoring the rest.
The game is both challenging and rewarding, striking a balance that rarely feels frustrating The sisters boss fight tested my patience. There's zero filler content, it's fun from start to finish.
For 3,90€ (on sale), RUINER is absolutely worth checking out.
pretty gud
I have some experience in bullet hell games, I like Enter the Gungeon, I completed Hades on 100%, I enjoy playing Hades II, but this one, I just hate. Maybe I haven't spent enough time understanding all the mechanics but this game just doesn't work for me. To hard without a lot of rewarding when beat the level, sometimes I die on common enemies. I don't understand why my skills don't trigger, a lot of damage dealing to me happens out of the screen... A lot of annoying things that prevent me from playing this. Uninstalled for the 2nd time. Maybe later... But seems already outdated.
Short but sweet, gameplay & gun feedback is amazing - coupled with the music you'll be feeling it.
Story & dialogue is just makes it come together nicely with an overarching narrative goal.
Amazing gameplay, music, and overall feel - a must play.
Finally got around playing this game, the story is functional, if it was missing its absense wouldn't impact the game, now the gameplay is really solid it has a variety of tools an skills you can unlock with points, whats really great is that you don't have to compromise with a skill once you unlocked you can reclaim your points back and try another build. Most of the time I just ended spamming shield plus dash to ram trough enemies jaja, if you are having trouble at the beggining just invest in dash and passive skills. The art is great and the music phenomenal, In short I loved the game but not enough to go after every achievement

9/10
Ghost in the shell designs. Highly enjoyable.
⭐4.99/5⭐
[Dev company is lazy. They've only made one game in ten years]
RUINER is surely a title not suitabile for everyone because of its top-down shooter mechanics; it's easy to learn, but very, very hard to master. The solid cyberpunk setting gives the game a dark-neon atmosphere that perfectly fits around the gameplay. It features an extremely fun and exciting combat alongside various weapon types, satisfying boss fights and tons of other stuff.

A twin stick type shooter that gets you pumped with the great soundtrack and cyberpunk setting.
good
best twin stick action you can get to this day
"Good Boy"

( ̄y▽ ̄)╭ Ohohoho.....
Its good but... lots of jank. You can be killed in cutscenes. Eg: your frozen in place, forced into a cutscene to watch the bosses die, if you dont kill all the trash mobs before you kill the boss, they can kill you while your stuck. Best counter is to spam skip the cutscenes. Immortal bosses/skill checks.
Other than those gripes, its a decent game, storys a trope, but games fun enough.
This is one where I really don't like being stuck with the binary "recommend" or "don't recommend" rating system, but unfortunately it's gonna be a "don't recommend" from me. I'll preface this by saying I'm a massive fan of the cyberpunk genre across all mediums really - classics like Neuromancer and Snow Crash; Blade Runner; Cyberpunk 2077; Lain, Texhnolyze, Ergo Proxy, Psycho Pass - you get my drift. On paper I should've loved this through and through.
But damn man, there is such a thing as TOO MUCH style. Within the first 10 minutes I was already annoyed with the constant glitchy flashing KILL BOSS nonsense. Combat going slow-mo every two kills for no reason. Every finisher animation going slow-mo for like 3 seconds at a time, over and over. Flashy animation nonsense after every stage, with flashy menus showing you your performance for that stage that barely last 2 seconds for you to even read the damn things. Glitchy animations when the characters are talking to you, glitchy animations every room you walk into. Flashy red peripherals across the bulk of your screen when you're low on health that conflict with the red UI in the moments where you need to watch the UI the most. It interrupts the flow of combat, it interrupts my trying to take in the characters and the surroundings, it just gets in the way left and right.
The soundtrack is great. The aesthetics are great when you finally get a break and can actually look at them. The combat is entertaining enough when it's not being interrupted constantly. But man, this is just a perfect example of the style massively getting in the way of the experience. Way too overbearing and annoying. The game's short enough going off of other reviews that I'm going to try to power through the rest of it, but I really shouldn't be this annoyed after only an hour in the game.
Incredibly stylish and atmospheric twin-stick shooter. Great soundtrack.
good
if you like hotline miami then try this game, it has a good graphic and level design, the mask makes it look even better, just try the game
