Amazing story, amazing gameplay, amazing music, amazing artstyle, not too hard, not too easy. Only complaint is thats its kinda short but its probably a blast to speedrun (there's a mode dedicated to that).

Yes, absolutely a masterpiece. You can have an excellent, clean-off and breathtaking fight (especially without using the bullet time), or just hang-around listening to its fabulous OST. Better use with Hotline Miami series and John Wick movies.
Still repeatedly playing this game while waiting for the DLC.

music isnt my favorite but its still relaxing and catchy, and the story and gameplay make it all come together nicely
First of all, my Steam time isn't accurate.
That's because I've mostly played this on my commute via Steam Deck in offline mode.
With that being said, I believe Katana Zero is a beautifully designed labor of love.
The animations ooze so much character and style that it's easy to forget you're playing a 2D pixel-art game.
Special shoutout to the text animations—truly genius design.
The Story
The story was gripping, though sometimes a little hard to follow.
Overall, it's engaging and the main reason I pushed through to the end.
The Gameplay
My biggest gripe with this game is, honestly, the gameplay. Maybe I just had the wrong expectations, but when I think of a "drugged-up killer with a katana", I imagine PURE SPEED.
The actual movement, however, feels slow and sluggish. I haven’t seen this mentioned in other reviews, but to me, the game felt slow.
By the end, this occasionally detracted from my experience.

Otherwise, I thought Katana Zero was a very cool piece of media, with a compelling story and top-tier 2D animations.
Killer soundtrack, tight gameplay and intriguing story. Definitely worth your time.
An upcoming DLC that hasn't come out in years. Maybe it gets too big and become its own game, and not come out in the foreseen future. Sounds familiar? Silksong-virus spreads rapidly, make sure to stay safe.
Cyberpunk Ninja. You won't get a lot of play time, but you'll be obsessed.

At first I was gonna glaze the game play , then the lore got insane so I had to glaze it. Then the game play become even more insane.
Less of a game and more like a short (AMAZING) experience

A solid 2D action platformer with some interesting mechanics and pretty good story. Each "level" is sort of a puzzle: how to eliminate all enemies on the map without getting hit. For the vast majority of levels, I was able to get through them in a few minutes, but some of them are quit tough and took me a bit to nail down.
Great soundtrack to a very good game. Worth a shot for those looking for a nice action-packed 2D platformer.

Very unique campaign, maybe a little short but it is just engaging like no other game I've played.
The story is great and the way your character moves with grace and fluidity along with the music is addicting, the graphics compliment the game perfectly and the scenarios/enemies are varied enough to keep you glued.
Absolutely fantastic experience. Amazingly satisfying combat that feels straight out of an action movie. Interesting story as well. Cannot recommend more.
Katana ZERO is an absolute gem! I’ve beaten it, but now I’m going back to complete all achievements, including hard mode and Speedrun mode. Hopefully, it won’t take too long! The story was amazing, and the combat is very enjoyable. There’s an incredible satisfaction in taking down enemies quickly and precisely, especially when you can breeze through a sequence without dying!
I missed the sale, but it was worth every cent at full price. If you love fast-paced action and a deep story, this game is a must-play!

review after finishing the game... up there with the best games i have ever had the pleasure to experience. gameplay is fun and all but the world characters, story is all so god damn immersive. and the music omg. last time i felt this good after playing a game was my alltime favourite game ori and the will of the wisp. its a very different game ofcourse but they are both masterclass in game design... just amazing. im struggeling to put into words how good this experience was.

My favorite game of all time, and don't let the numbers fool you. I've had more fulfillment in ten hours of Katana ZERO than a hundred or a thousand in any other game. One of the few games best experienced "going in blind". A true 10/10 in my eyes.

This game is one of my favourite games of all time, despite playing it for such a short amount of time it has insane replayability value and the story just makes the game 20x better than it already is.
I was recommended this game nonstop and I'm glad I tried it because now I understand why i was told to play it. This game is cinema, I may not be a critic but it should be known this game is a solid 10/10 and worth every penny.

If you like hotline miami, you will love this. The 80s tape and tv aesthetics, the swift movement, the soundtrack, the story... This game has a energetic hyper violence and a beautiful melancholy very fitting of the cyberpunk adventure it is.

This game has stuck with me since I first played it when it initially released on the Switch. Back then, I was only playing it as something to fill the fast-paced, violent hole in my library that finishing Hotline Miami left (have no real interest in HM2 atm, will get there someday) and as such, I paid the story very little mind. It was all just set dressing.
Then I bought the game this year, on Steam, and I realized that it never stuck with me because of the flashy combat & music. Sure, those things are positives, but really, it is the story of a broken man. It's not something I will go into a great amount of detail here, although I could, as the story is told beautifully & is drip-fed in a very satisfying way that I would hate to rob you of.
There is a free DLC coming someday as well, which I am hugely looking forward to, but it's looking like it may still be a ways off. Given the absolutely insane level of quality in the base game, I trust it'll be worth the wait.

Highly recommended, after one complete play through with most of the achievements still locked. I can't remember the last time I've written a steam review, but this game deserved one.
The game is hard, but not punishing. If you get hit once, you die. Failure is common, but so are checkpoints. Each failure feels more like gaining knowledge rather than losing progress.
Gameplay is smooth, I have never played a 2D side scroller / platform game before, so it took me a while to get used to things like pressing W to jump instead of move forward. While mechanics were important at times, knowledge gained through trial and error was more important to progress, allowing a noob like me to feel badass as well.
Vibe is lit. This includes the general aesthetics and soundtrack. Overall I felt like a Samurai John Wick with a cyberpunk Sandevistan equipped.
It feels like the choices in the game really matter, before playing the game I didn't even know there were going to be choices. like I am in control of deciding the character's future while learning more about his past and uncovering more mysteries as the game progresses. While being a badass soulless killing machine is great, I came to find over time that my character having a soul was pretty great too, and made the story more impactful.
People who haven't played the game yet won't understand this next part, but I really enjoyed the Dragon's Tape and wish there was more content with fifteen.
If a sequel ever comes out I'm going to get it on day 1.

one of the best 2D platformers and games i have ever played. It's kind of short but there is a speed run mode that I think a lot of players will have fun with. I can't wait for the sequel or dlc that will defiantly come out soon.
