The Game itself is decent but f*ck Ubisoft with their Bullsh*t. Forcing players to install another gaming browser that takes an eternity to load and screwing up the servers is such an idiotic move! Ubisoft get your sh*t together!
As a completionist/achievement hunter, this has quite literally been my worst ever experience in a video game ever. the base game & Fallen Ghosts DLC are fine. the shitshow begins in the Narco Road DLC, and on god it is the single worst made piece of content EVER. you WILL encounter glitches throughout every mission/challenge you play, across ALL FOUR REGIONS in the DLC. The worst thing is, this game has been out for about 8(?) years and the devs still haven't given the slightest fuck about fixing this abomination of a game. as for the overall experience with the base game, it is fun for a bit, but becomes repetitive real quick. the world is well made with many varied regions and great scale, but is very under utilized.
I've sworn by all the things dear to my heart that I won't buy a game from Ubisoft ever again. it is that bad.
this game is basically gta and blackops mixxed... so far pretty cool only 5 hours in though
shoot cartel.
cartel get angry.
cartel fight you.
you win.
game end.
For me, this is the best shooter game that Ubisoft has ever come out with!
not too shit.. enemies dont render in for me past 600 something meters so getting long range sniper shots arent really that easy but i still love the shit out this game and wouldnt stop playing...my opinion, beter than breakpoint
I play the Ghost Recon series of games from time to time. I really like the new gameplay style for Ghost Recon Wildlands.
In its massive open-world map, set in a fictional version of Bolivia, players will have to adapt to a variety of environments, including forests, mountains, and deserts. The featured co-op mode allows friends to team up for missions, which adds fun and tactical depth.
The helicopter controls are a bit clunky. There are also times when the AI team goes crazy. Overall, it's a game that shines in multiplayer, but solo players don't feel as exciting.
The graphics is showing it's age, but it's still doesn't look bad after all these years. Movement can be a little clunky, but I think most people will get surprised how god this game still is.
This review is based on the hardest difficulty of the game because that is all I experienced.
Postives
High Replayability & Tier Mode
Multiple difficulty levels and Tier Mode, plenty of challenge and incentive to keep playing and the freedom the player is given keeps things fresh and adds a sense of variety
Stealth Mechanics
IMO the game does a good job of distinguishing when you are spotted vs hidden the stealth feels pretty polished and makes staying stealthy feel rewarding.
Weapon Variety:
Tons of guns and attachments to unlock buy or find allowing for deep customization.
Character Customization
I didn't mess with it too much, the game allows for a good level of character customization keeping your ghost personalized to your liking and keeping the game immersive.
Vehicles
Helicopters are super easy to fly which I like. Arcadey controls make it more fun than frustrating.
Realistic vehicle damage which adds to the immersion. Crashes visibly affect your car and can even total it making it fun to chase and crash into enemies.
Story and Mission Structure
The story is well written requiring you to take down different branches of the cartel before facing the leader. You need to dismantle the cartel security, production lines, social influence, and trafficking ring adding depth to the campaign.
The nonlinear mission structure allows to you take on any objective in any order making the game less restrictive and more replayable.
Gunplay and Bullet Physics
Shooting feels great and bullet physics are realistic forcing you to compensate for drop when at a distance. You can also shoot through a variety of objects walls and vehicles with certain calibers which is a nice feature.
Content
Tons of content a huge map packed with missions, side missions, skill points to collect and weapons to find.
Rebel missions and character progression keep the gameplay engaging upgrading rebel abilities is super useful and maintains its strength throughout the entire game.
Ghost mode adds a hardcore permadeath experience, making every decision feel high stakes.
Its also not a live service game. So you can enjoy this game offline for years to come even when there is no more support for the game itself.
World and Atmosphere
The world feels alive with civilians walking about, cartel soldiers patrolling and fighting Unidad, Rebel soldiers on the move, and aircrafts flying above. The audio is great and immersive with authentic Bolivian accents that adds to the setting and the gunfire and environmental sounds are S tier making shootouts feel intense.
Drone
Great Mechanic and is well implemented with a range of upgrades and a very nice spotting feature it makes it one of the best field gadgets you could ever need. It can explode so you can take down enemies from afar even high priority targets that are hard to reach. It can EMP nearby devices and even shutdown vehicles and convoys. A noisemaker to distract enemies or make them move position. Or it can even revive teammates and other players which make is super OP when using multiplayer. All around the drone is one of the coolest innovative things added to the game.
Negatives
Unfair Enemy AI
The Ai is the biggest downside of the game and the age shows through it.
Enemies spot you way to quickly even from insane distances.
I had enemies in a truck (Facing forward) spot me on a mountain (behind them) while driving away from like 300m-400m
Enemies have perfect accuracy. Meaning a solider with a MAC-10 can beam you instantly from any distance even though its a CQC weapon.
The AI will randomly know your location when hunted, even if you don't make a noise or are spotted instead of searching naturally they will walk straight to you and spot you forcing you to move before they do.
Buggy Team AI
Ai team will shoot convoy trucks until the blow up destroying valuable supplies you can prevent this by ordering them not to fire but its frustrating.
They will also walk straight into enemy view while in stealth breaking immersion (Even though enemies wont react or spot them)
Sometimes they ignore enemies in fights aswell. leaving you to get shot when expecting support.
Dirt Bikes
Total death trap finicky bike physics make them unreliable and dangerous. A small rock can send you to your doom.
Mission Restart
If I get spotted and wanted to restart, I would blow myself up with C4 instead of just having a quick "restart mission" option.
Sniping Limitations
This might be a big one for some of you, In my case bullets would disappear after around 900m which is far but still disappointing. I would have like Arma-style long distance sniping.
Non Dynamic Cartel Strength
Even after taking down key cartel leaders and severely weakening the cartel there is no noticeable decrease in enemy presence across the map so it doesn't truly feel like you are dwindling them down.
Graphics
While the graphics aren't disgusting the visuals show their age. Compared to modern games with ray tracing and next gen lighting Wildlands looks a little outdated though the art style can be seen as appealing for non graphic fanatics.
Bugs
Ive encountered a few soft locks where I had to kill myself or reload because I was stuck in a canyon or a hill or some objects quite annoying.
Also a bug with the cover system every time you try to peak out of cover the camera switches to the wrong shoulder making it harder to peak properly this has gotten me killed a few times happens mostly indoors while 3rd person aiming.
Final Thoughts
GRW is an incredibly fun and tactical open world shooter with high replay-ability, strong stealth mechanics and a good multiplayer. The gunplay stealth drone and mission freedom make it fun to play. The world feels great but the AI and occasional bugs hold it back from perfection like any other game. If you like Tactical shooters you should pick it up. If you are anyone else you should still get it when it goes on sale for less than $6.
UBISOFT!! FIX YOUR GAME LAUNCHER!!!! why is it that when you buy a game, you cannot play it without the company's own launcher being installed, ran, and connected to the internet in order to play your game. this is ridiculous. This is why you are losing customers.
Ubisoft doing Ubisoft things.
Looks as though the company in in it's death throws.
I've enjoyed this game a lot over the course of the last 5 years, but now they have decided to push an update which has bricked this game. Their insistence on using an external launcher is the cause of the issue.
The game is graphically beautiful, the gameplay is engaging and rewards various approaches - whether you enjoy to be patient and methodical, or brash and loud.
The customisation is extensive and it's a blast with friends... When you are able to launch the game.
I'd hope to amend this review when the game is capable of launching, but until that time comes, I cannot stand by and let people waste their money on this waste of disk space.
Very good game (still better than breakpoint in my opinion), the bugs make it funny on casual mode but on mode ghost I still have ptsd due to some of them
8/10
fun game, quite ridiculous you need uplay to play a game on steam. i just keep clicking launch and it eventually launches
"Unable to locate Uplay PC. Please reinstall Uplay PC."
dont push fucking beta version of your own shitty launcher to prod
shit company, game is ok ig
Ubi broke the game today - No one is able to play
Shame - almost a perfect game if it weren't for having to play through UbiConnect
The game is more than great but ubisoft just fails at being decent or competent so right now the game is not at all playable thanks to their annoying third party launcher which broke the game after a recent update, Because one of the files from the update is "mistrusted" the game will not start at all
it´s shame that you can´t play the game out of a sudden just because ubisoft connect and steam ain´t good friends and don´t seem to be able to fix ongoing issues...so i get permanently a pop up that i am supposed to install uplay pc which doesn´t A no longer has that name and B makes no sense after i played this morning andf after a ubisoft update i wasn´t able anymore ever since.-....it´s pretty annoying when find online even more people who had the same issue and their post are pretty much outdated...and the only thing which seems to resolve that issue seems to be to reinstall steam entirelyx....which would mean in my case a complete reinstall of aboput 800 GB....deinstalling the game now and will try it in a couple a mounth again...may be steam and ubisoft have found a permantnetly solution for that crap
Despite being a pretty great game, Ghost Recon Wildlands is as ever hindered by Ubisoft being a complete joke of a company. Releasing a launcher that nobody asked for nor wants to use, forcing DRM into your games and then potentially bricking them at a random update down the line is surely a fantastic consumer friendly strategy that will not have any long term repercussions (It did)
If you're a new buyer, avoid Ubisoft at all costs.
Game has become literally unplayable due to a update to ubisoft 3rd party launcher. It will not launch as it can not find the previous version of the launcher that does not exist because there was a mandatory update. This is UbiSoft.
game crashes on launch after last update
Doesn't work. Says missing uPlay. I have no idea what that means. I installed the game, I expected I can play it right away.
Ubisoft is total garbage but this was a diamond in their catalog, the story is deeply missing the Sicario-esque grit that would really elevate the world, it kinda gives G.I Joe, Pro-American interventionism which if you just ignore the ridiculous nature of that, you will find a deeply immersive, intuitive and optimized game with a very exciting gameplay loop.
There really isn't too much to go in depth on, Bolivia is a beautiful setting, very diverse and magnificent landscapes captured by graphics that make things cinematic during any time of day and any weather and in any location. The detail is insane for a map this big and this varied, each outpost feels polished, with generally intelligent enemy patrol locations (A.I is decent enough) and there is so much customization that you can make things as hard or easy as you want, with dozens and dozens of HUD options that let you minimize or maximize your information at your will. The upgrade system is actually solid, and almost every collectible is useful and not some stupid leaflet floating in the wind. You find new guns, attachments or skill points, and side missions give you resources to upgrade your skills, health, vehicles, rebel help and team.
To sell this game I will just describe how many different options you have to take an outpost.
STEALTH
You can slip in alone, telling your teammates to stay back while you silently kill off each enemy without being seen, no drone, turn off the hud in the options, just hardcore stealth. Shooting out lights (nearly every single light source can be shot out, its honestly super fucking cool) and slipping from corner to corner.
You can sit on an elevated position, custom sniper in hand, and slowly tag and pick off enemies with a satisfying bullet drop system. Even using your teammates sync kill to help out.
You can sit your team on a hill, use them as snipers as you clear the place.
You can call in rebels, and have them get into an all out fire fight while you slip past the shooting and escape unseen.
You can rig explosives and cause distractions to throw off patrols that are in your way.
Just use stealth to take out alarms and heavy units, then clear the rest out going balls to the wall.
Take a helicopter and parachute in unseen.
LOUD
Just go for it, run head first like Rambo and clean them out. This may be difficult but will result in absolutely insane and fun moments of chaos, with helicopters shooting through buildings, bombs dropping, cars flying in, bullets flying like rain drops. Turn this shit into a twitch shooter.
Clear alarms and calling rebel help, going in with a small army and dropping motor strikes, all out war.
Come in with a tank or helicopter, rip and tear.
Bring in heavy weapons, sit up high and just unload like its Just Cause.
Throw a bunch of C4 on a car, drive in, dive out and Osama Bin Laden this bitch.
There is just so much fun to have here, its worth the price but fuck ubisoft, get it on sale.
"A Strong First Entry into the Open-World Ghost Recon Era"
Ghost Recon Wildlands is a great first installment in the franchise’s open-world shift. The game offers a vast, beautifully crafted world with solid tactical gameplay and co-op that makes every mission more fun.
The story is engaging, with a compelling setting and a decent narrative that keeps you invested. While some missions can feel repetitive, the freedom to approach objectives your way makes up for it. If you enjoy tactical shooters with a mix of stealth and action, this is a must-play.
great game lots of fun played for hours on Xbox but i come to PC and i play for a couple hours and then the buttons for controller change. ill be in the middle of a base get detected i press the button to crouch and my drone comes out, i try to run and i melee the air, i try to melee and i throw a grenade this game is so broken i would not recommend buying it if you want to play the game with a controller
Ghost Recon Wildlands is an action packed open world tactical shooter that drops you and 3 more squadmates (Friends or AI, but you can also play solo) into the wilderness of one of the most underutilized environments in gaming, South America (Bolivia in this case). While tactical in many aspects, at the end of the day, Wildlands is more of an arcadey shooter than a tactical one and as with any Ubisoft game you can expect a massive open world filled with a million different collectibles. Customization is a highlight, as Wildlands basically allows you to create the modern soldier of your dreams thanks to the many customization options you have at your disposal, but a lot of customization items are locked behind lootboxes. While the story is decent, the story missions themselves and what you have to do in them get repetitive real quick but thankfully said missions tend to be somewhat short, not taking you more than 15-20 minutes and sometimes less. Honestly, Ghost Recon Wildlands is a trash food tactical shooter, which is something that actually plays on its favor as it was refreshing to play a tactical shooter that doesn't overwhelm me with ultra realistic hardcore mechanics that leave me with actual PTSD and depression (Tarkov).
Narco Road might just be one of the worst DLCs I have ever played in my entire life. I don't know who in Ubisoft thought it was a good idea to expand upon the terrible driving mechanics from the base game and turn them into this DLC's theme, but I hope they lost their job. Fallen Ghosts is okay and it focuses more on the average Wildlands base game experience but it lacks content. The crossbow is fun to use though. The season pass gives you more singleplayer missions too.
7/10
Enjoyable game. Gameplay can become repetitive after a while but the story line and endings were interesting. Would recommend as a game to pickup and play to fill time. 8.5/10
games fun. a bit buggy at times, but its very satisfying taking down a cartel almost single-handedly. too bad i lost my ghost mode save even though i didn't die. i think if you leave the game while you're in combat, they consider that a death (which is lame imo).
The only game that has made me sink more than 100 hours into it. Have played it twice. This is just pinnacle of ghost recon game. The world, the environment, the characters, the game play its all nothing short of spectacular. You can legit create scenes out of a movie in this. The world of Bolivia just draws you in its beauty and danger. And with the tier 1 mode things become truly interesting. I highly recommend this to anyone remotely interested in open world, stealth and just movie level action scenes. Even after so many years, it still holds up to this day.
I had this game originally for the Xbox not long after it's initial release and I've 100% completed it, and STILL play it on Xbox as well as on here. This game has an amazing, involving and completely immersive storyline that seems like it could never end, and I'd be fine with that lol. The world is HUGE, and one could very easily get lost in it. I highly, HIGHLY recommend buying if you're looking for a game you can play casually, or get sucked into and let time slip away from you. The sequal (Breakpoint) I feel was absolute dogsh*t and just a way to give John Bernthal exposure and have his face in a videogame. It would've been a much better DLC to Wildlands instead of a standalone full game release in my opnion. Breakpoint can't even be compared to Wildlands, as Wildlands is a MUCH higher calibre of game. Buy the Ultimate Edition like I did when I got the game, I did for both Xbox and PC. The content is worth it, the game just feels like it's missing a lot if you get the Standard Edition. Trust me, you'll regret not just spending the extra few bucks to get the complete package once you start playing lol.
** You get to kill Predator and gain it's thermo-vision among other goodies from the movies**
** Splinter Cell's Sam Fischer makes a cameo appearance and you can obtain his stealth tech**
Hola Bitches,
The game is really good apart from Error: Ribena where you cant fucking join your friends, the fact that everyone has shit connection and 3 guys are running at high speeds behind your car cause your special operators are indeed special and cant enter a vehicle. Some mong with an ak and a towel around his napper absolutely beams you like its a chinese kid on rust and the dialogue was made by a 3 year old. When hurling down a mountain in a vehicle where im about to instantly die on impact or be left in a vegetative state so bad my wife will leave me for a hunky black man, all my character has to say is "$hit Balls". Paid like 40 squid for this when it come out cause it was revolutionary and boy they couldn't have been more wrong.
eating a cactus raw with spines would be a more pleasant experience than dealing with Ubi's launcher
Ubisoft is garbage, were forced to use uplay for every game. Not only is it a terrible platform it forgets your product key within a week and ubisoft staff and too dense to recognize the product key is valid and linked to my steam account after showing them a picture of both windows open with both accounts with a time stamp and ID. Such a shame this was a decent game.
dont buy ubisoft, half their games dont work and the launcher is very problematic, you have been warned
Get it on discount, the game is fun but alot of gear is locked behind BS lootcrates that you either have to grind for (in a SP game!!!) or pay cash for.
Hope Ubisoft will go out of business because their greed fks up good games.
Seems like a really fun game, and then you try to play it and it runs and looks worse than like Cyberpunk on launch lmao. In all seriousness, the optimization is so horrifically bad that it is just a genuine pain. Maybe its better on an AMD system, but as a NVIDIA user I cannot recommend this.
Edit: for those who care lol, you can make it playable by either turning on Vsynch and turning down to 60hz monitor refresh rate OR simply do borderless mode. (Idk seems full-screen is bugged)
As usual the ubisoft app is awful and I cannot recommend this game. The launcher is plagued with bugs, constant pop-ups, and makes gaming not fun.
I would say definitely worth revising, for what it is it's fun solo or with friends. Countless hours in story mode, yes some things are repetitive but the map makes up for it. Droning is a fun aspect which helps strategize stealth mechanics. If it's on sale for cheap it's a no brainer for people who like the series.
Had an amazing experience playing the story since last two weeks. The diverse map design, diverse enemies, diverse story missions, not great but not bad tactical combat experience, I think Wildlands has every element an open world tactical shooter lover wants in such type of game and I personally loved playing it. Breakpoint felt like a downgrade considering that story is not even near as good compared to that of Wildlands. Not a big fan of Ubisoft, but they did a great job with the Ghost Recon franchise and I hope they take a break from making back to back Assassin's Creed games and focus on making another good Ghost Recon game like Wildlands.
spent almost 90 hours, 100 percent completing, was a lot of fun. i recommend if you like open world and stealth shooters.
Love this game, each time I play, it fells just like the first time.
Game is great but there is a problem many PC players have where the game takes a good 2-5 minutes to start. It will stay at the splash screen for awhile before starting. I love this game but I want to make sure a developer reads this since it seems like they still respond to reviews. This issue needs to be addressed because I've seen many people online with this issue but little to no solutions.
I had forgotten how fun this game is!!!
A great mix of GTA and Splinter Cell with an absolutely beautiful open world to explore. Graphically gorgeous and can be pretty hard on your hardware when maxed out
They did it right on this one - not perfect, but a solid game - definately worth the price!!!
Boring, repetitive rebel missions inorder to lvl up, main storyline meh, ingame transactions to skip the unwanted grind and the stupid gazillion DRMs making the game launch take upto 3-5mins each time after the splash screen comes up! I really tried to enjoy this crap game even after all these years but I simply couldn't. I a big fan of the Far Cry series but this is definitely not a cup of tea for everyone just cuz of open world and diverse weaponry.
It's probably my favorite co-op game of all time. Ripping through the Bolivian countryside on my helicopter, taking out targets with surgical precision with my friends is so much fun. Especially when one of my friends always disembarks the helicopter too soon and ends up crushed under it. Never fails to make us laugh. Wildlands is incredibly fun from my point of view, play it quietly in the evening.
gear is from the 90's guns from the 2000's and set in 2017. Game is fantastic, givers you the feeling of being an American Special forces operation unit in South America.
why do i need a separate email and password to play this game? I shouldn't need anything, I bought the game, I should be able to play it without any additional logins or passwords.
You dont play this game for ths tory, mor about playing and hanging out with your friends while shooting stuff in an exotic environment, Wildlands offers a huge playground to drive, fly and blow stuff up
The game is great, but the stupid Ubisoft requirement for an external launcher is frustrating! Stop being greedy and just launch it from steam like you used to!
An "Alright” game for an open world sandbox, a “Decent” game for the franchise
Being a military deployed to fight in a desert like those generic American hero movies (most of the times) feels cool. This game does that absolutely great.
With 93 hours in the game, the Bolivia town still feels alive because how the game was designed. Seeing civilians living their life, enemies patrol, and even a random event that happens randomly along the roads. With all this you can freely roam around the map finding new things like a sandbox. It’s filled with different biomes like jungles, mountains, and desert. which you can freely explore and strategize your attack in various ways. Hit-and-run, sniping, stealth, you call it.
Due to the game with large amount of biome variety, it came with an enormous sized map and a lot of contents to do in the game. With over 20+ bosses around the map with around 4-5 missions each one. Each boss doesn’t feel exactly like a memorable villain to me like in Far Cry series. They do have personality to each other in each of their cut-scenes but most of them seem to serve more of a sense of progression. That feeling when I have beaten all the small bouchons and finally get the bigger one is pretty satisfying. Like most video games, when there’s a boss, there’s their grunts. There are standard enemies, one with bigger health pool, and a long range with small health pool. Most of the time it’s other obstacles that were around them like an alarm or a jammer. Which really tickles my imagination thinking of how I would approach them. It’s like playing with the same action figures but each time you came up with different scenarios. You might start with just stealth all the way to the mission because you wanted to play it safe and still feel cool like Sam Fisher (which appears in the game at some point). But once you know what to do, all-gun ho is crazy and fun experience to have, like an “American hero movie”.
This game gets tiring at one point with how big the map actually is. You do have vehicles to travel around ranging from bikes to a literal missile chopper. But travelling across a province just to reach a mission, even with the fast-traveling system, is just absolutely time consuming, especially when trying get that 100% of game progression. More over, the missions feel somewhat repetitive once you have finished some of them. It’s either clip someone, interrogate, or just blow things up with a little detail to each mission to know that they are different. With how sandbox the game can be, differing your approach to each mission, it does make up for that boring feeling of the game but that kind of just it.
I would say, as much as contents this game has and the possibility on how you can take on the game, it does feels “meh” at some point. Is it a good game? Well, yes, it is. But is it the best? Not really. You would need time and a little bit of commitment to actually beat the game. Comparing this with their old games of this franchise, it does feel underwhelming with how epic or cool those were. It could be due to the old ones being a linear game instead of an open world unlike this one, which means they can go wild with story and cutscenes. But it just kind of gives me that feeling of like “it could’ve been better” but I can’t get it out of my mouth.
This probably one of the last good co-op shooters to ever have been released. Seriously, one of the last of the relics of golden age gaming. So many many memories with this amazing game, it's a damn shame they released that dogshit sequel. It's buggy as fuck but compare to the slop Ubisoft is releasing, it's a whole complete game. Hopefully Ubisoft will release an actual sequel and go back to their roots instead of another dogbooty assassins creed game.
