After primarily playing this game on the PS4, just played my first PC play through. This version is sooooooo much better than the console version. What is better about this version, you ask? Detail at distance, and much better frame rate. Nothing like seeing a mountain top to snipe off of only to have trees show up out of nowhere on the console version, PC version does not suffer from that problem.
This game isn't bad but holy shit are the npcs fucking stupid, don't rely on them and don't even waste your skill points on their tree.
this is the one and, as of writting, only game i have bought twice early on after release spending nearly $200 in total. i enjoyed the special events and nods to films from my younger years. the cross over missions with Ubisofts other titles is also interesting. the world is so vast and yet does not feel empty in the slightest. There are frustrations with certain mechanics but they do eventually become less of a pain to deal with and the gun play can be quite fast paced.
With the context of Breakpoint releasing and ubisoft showing that they learned nothing from the the initial updates for Wildlands makes me believe that for the casual solo player this may be the last good game for ghost recon Ubisoft has released or may ever release. enjoy it before it goes away! especially on sale!
8/10 gameplay, open world, nice coop game, story 7/10, UBISOFT CONNECT 0/10 servers are horrible but it its a 2017 game would recommend with friends, kick back and rlx.
Very open world map! lots to do! Just wish it was even more open!
Damn, to see the alternative ending it made me replay that pain-in-the-ass mission. Loved the game overall—grindy, but the ending mission was great. The story was solid, and the AI buddies were awesome. Loved it
Just finished the game and I enjoyed it very much:
- the world design is amazing - I know very little of of Bolivia but it did feel like a real live place. Very diverse and immersive I think.
- graphics - there is some scenery shit (combined with weather and day/night cycle) and if you have a good display, like an oled it looks dope
- the premise - fighting sicarios and narc cartels is my cup of tea
- missions are fine and plenty, story is okayish but they could've made the missions much more interesting, for example, in such a big world they could've made some missions reveal with clues instead of pointing you directly on the map - I'd feel much more engaged if I had to figure out clues and play a little bit of detective, searching for something in the world
- dialog is cheesy but bearable
- game play provides a very good balance of arcade and realism imho (you can turn on/off some features in the settings to lean one way or the other).
- AI on enemies isn't great but they move around enough and do different things depending on threat level to surprise you a lot of times. The aiming of enemies is broken in sense that they hit you from surprising distance/angles. Sometimes it feels like they literally roll a dice if they should hit you or not, instead of taking into account various things. Enemy AI sees through thick grass/bushes (when in combat) and doesn't feel realistic.
I played solo but I think the game would be way more fun with friends in coop as team AI is dumb as potato.
I'd say solid 9/10.
The BEST pve military game.... EVER!
Amazing Graphics!!!
Fantastic character creation!
Pretty Cool Combat!
It has a MSQ, side missions for extra experience, things to collect in the zones and a mini-cartel-boss per each zone. zone completion is a must for the rewards. Tons of things to do. I cranked the difficulty up to max, as the game feels like it requires it for the realism and intensity.
Highly Recommended!
This was such a fun concept in theory and I feel they pulled it off pretty well. It mashes the tactical nature of the first games while implementing the GR Future Soldier gameplay core. And it works like a charm. I had a huge gripe with the gameplay of GR FS, its movement and lack of any requirement of tactical thinking even in the highest difficulty. I am happy to say, this game solves those parts.
The story is pretty simple, set in a fictional setting of the real state of Bolivia. However, the execution of the story is done very well with mature themes intertwined with them sparingly, but effectively. Considering the huge amount of bosses this game has, and the limited time we get to meet them (mostly when we shoot them in the head or capture them) - most of them are pretty well fleshed out. The gameplay is well intertwined with the story and even if one doesn't take in the lore, the nature of the missions within each of the bosses' territory effectively manages to tell you a lot about your adversary. We don't have a Vaas or a Pagan Min in our hands here, but those games have a tendency to become boring in gameplay within the first playthrough itself.
And that brings us into the gameplay. And I have to say, GR FS walked so this could run. The core gameplay is the same. 4 soldiers, not directly controlled - only controlled through in game commands. But this works much better in this open world setting, especially since they did fix the movement and did away with the forced cover-to-cover sprint movement. Each fight is tactical and somehow felt fresh right up to El Sueno. This is facilitated by the variety of environments which forces you to switch tactics. Some has thick foliage that make sneaking up a bit easy and sometimes you are in a nigh barren wasteland where you cautiously avoid open spaces. The gameplay is significantly different during the day as compared to that during the night as well. It really gives a feeling that the world is alive - only broken by the respawning of enemies (a necessary evil).
This is the best Ubisoft exploration experience among all that I've played. Each collectible has a reason to exist and the dynamical gameplay make the process not feel repetitive at all. Moreover, the exploration is adequately accentuated by well spaced side-missions that, although similar in set-pieces - never feel overbearing.
I am actually pretty impressed with this game and feel this game really went below a lot of our radars when it came out. Play it. I recommend it wholeheartedly.
IMPORTANT: However, the does still suffers from a lot of optimisation issues that can really ruin the experience for you especially during Ghost mode runs.
I obviously would've given it a higher score, but with the optimization issues and lack of Steam achievements:
6.5/10
Yeah, I recommend it, if you feel like waiting ten minutes between every menu. This game takes forever to load every screen. I finally selected a game mode, and then backed out of it to try a different one and the game CTDed on me. It then re-started on it's own. Wacky thing. No wonder it was on sale.
alot of fun near 100% on my play station account
Here are the things that stood out to me (good and bad) while playing GR: Wildlands. See the last point for what I think is the most glaring issue.
Pros:
- Very large map with divers biomes
- Many options for map traversal (i.e. vehicles)
- Pretty good loadout customization (weapons, gadgets, clothes, accessories, etc.)
- Go it alone or with up to 3 mates (or strangers)
- AI squad is optional if you do want to go solo, though it is more difficult, I think
- Guns are based on irl counterparts instead of made up garbage
- Weapon customization is pretty good, though somewhat limited
- Decent plot
- Okay cover system, but doesn't always work
- Nice graphical quality
- Adding a suppressor does not affect damage (albeit after a skill upgrade)
- Sam Fisher crossover is pretty cool
- Overall pretty fun
Cons (IMO):
- Ubisoft
- Devs seem to know little about weapons, such as the difference between an AKM and an AK-74 or where to mount an optic or foregrip, etc.
- "Standard" capacity magazines are 20 rounds on intermediate cartridge rifles; should be 30
- Ubisoft script writing
- Movement is sometimes stiff or does not respond well
- Skill upgrades requiring skill points AND specific supplies is a little much
- The BIGGEST complaint I have with Wildlands is the enemy AI and the way they respond to threats. For instance, you plant some explosives on an enemy vehicle or hardpoint and then relocate somewhere on the opposite end of the area. Then you detonate said explosives from the safety of your new spot to create a diversion or something. Somehow the enemy AI knows exactly where you are and attempts to engage you. To me this removes a great deal of the immersion, and by extension, much of the fun. I could deal with the other issues I have with Wildlands if this problem had been addressed or never existed.
Game is very fun, albeit some parts of the game can be considered outdated.
Ubisoft removed all licenced content such as the Predator, which is a big shame, as that was some of the funnest content in the game.
Worth it on sale.
Takes about 5 minutes to load up on a 14900k with a 4090 and a gen 4 m.2 SSD with 32GB of 7200 DDR5, but is a good game after it finally opens
Another Tom Clancy game that surprised me with how against the military industrial and intelligence complexes it is. Your character invades a Latin American country and along with your handler you regularly torture and blackmail people into getting what you want. You're helping arm some socialists to take control now but with the view to destabilising them if they get too big for their britches.
Absolutely gorgeous graphics and environments, but it's interesting to see some of the areas where the follow on (Breakpoint) improved things in terms of UI/UX, gameplay options, and progression. One thing I definitely preferred in Wildlands for the realism aspect was night time raids, when you'd have reduced enemy forces because the others are conveniently sleeping in tents or dorms nearby.
Been playing this game since it came out, then didnt have a console or lap for like 8 years, one of the first games i bough again. you can play it how ever you want it, casual in normal dificulty or hardest and if you to options gameplay you can remove AI team mates. truly alone.
great game, atmospheric, stunning graphics, cant stop coming back to it,great replayability, would recommend.
love the game, good game to play with friends, I've enjoyed it for the 3 hours I've played. Highly recommend to others
it is a good game and i keep coming back to it and you can grind at level 30 for extra stuff i like it
Good story and driving physics pve not the best but its still okay overall good game but if you want good gameplay and pve just buy breakpoint
like Far Cry 3 but with a less fun story and you're a spec ops team instead of some guy
Game is ok, nothing wrong with it.
The issue is the ubisoft laucher, the damn thing is awfully optimized and takes forever to open.
Really fun game, incredible if you got some bros to play with you. Ubisoft launcher is awful and unpredictable for loading times, but still this is overall worth it.
good game the public servers do not work make sure ypu make friends on steam to play ,but playing this game for the first 100 hours is better played solo with ai team
Ghost Recon Wildlands is a blast for anyone who loves open-world shooters. The graphics are stunning, with Bolivia’s landscapes—from dense jungles to bright salt flats—looking absolutely gorgeous and detailed. It's hard not to get lost in the world just taking in the scenery!
Gameplay is where Wildlands shines. You can approach missions any way you like, whether it’s sneaking around or charging in guns blazing. Playing with friends makes it even better; the co-op experience adds so much fun as you strategize and work together to bring down the cartel.
As for performance, the game is not so well-optimized, my 3060 with AMD 7-5800 struggles a little bit, but it may be my PC's flaw.
overall, worth buying, seriously.
this is my childhood AND favorite game. but ubisoft connect fucked it all over the place. i mostly play on my steam deck since its fun ad good, but ubi connect ruins it all by giving me a MONTH OLD save. ubisoft killed one of best games ever, Shame. not recomended unless you want a ubisoft error disaster.
I purchased this game but it does not load even with modern hardware, 8hrs+ I've spent trying to troubleshoot this game, the only thing left to do is reimage my computer (not happening). The game looks great in trailers. I wish i could play it. I would not recommend buying this game, it seems broken.
Probably my favorite game since OG Ghost Recon. Why? Because, I modded it. It had good bones; A nice large map with lots of guns and GI "barbie" dress-up. As I was a heavy modder of OG Ghost Recon and it's expansions Desert Siege and Island Thunder. It sorta became a neat little sandbox for me. The story was trash. The mission design was braindead. The driving was terrible. But, the sandbox was fun for the guns and the map and tweaking it for fun.
Sadly, for the last decade the military aspect UBISOFT games and it's abandoned espionage games which had took a nose dive finally took a terminal turn for UBISOFT at a certain point *cough*Breakpoint*cough*. The shuttering of the Sam Fisher series and the out of touch "Macho Man Savior of America™" depictions of the military games really, really left a bad taste in my mouth and in the mouths of the other adults in the room.
The jokes in this game of finding a "...prophylactic no make that two prophylactic's in a glove box" as well as the nonsense "clever" musings of your braindead AI battle teammates fighting enemies turreting/teleporting/wallhacking because they can't navigate the terrain properly and the game resorts to cheats to foist them into and out of existence as long as your pov camera is pointed away. It drove the masses away. And the rest learned this lesson a second time on the occasion of Breakpoints release.
It was really no surprise once this dip in quality and lack of proper gaming feature and mechanical development snaked out into the bread and butter games of the Star Wars IP and the sacred cow that was Assassin's Creed. I knew and I said good old UBISOFT is dead, has been dead but the signal hasn't quite been received in the old collective noggin yet.
I told my friends to sell their stock in UBISOFT well over two years ago. I really tried to warn them. Oh, well.
Needless to say I liked the world (map) and the collectivist aspect of this and many old UBISOFT games. It just became all pig all the stinking time and at some point not enough lipstick was gonna cover that up.
The Ghost Recon follow up to this game was an utter disappointment in that it was a spectacle shooter with heavy monetization. The patches to "fix' it was a hilarious adding of AI teammates even dumber than Wildlands and absolutely no balance pass for gear, levels, etc because that was tied into the monetization BS. As well as the utter moronic story and the Sci-Fi take on drones which was just terrible.
UBISOFT actually died some ten-fifteen years ago. However, the signals just haven't traveled up the spinal column to tell the brain this yet. But, the signal is crying out loud now.
This game reminds me of mercenaries on ps2 but way better but also not as good due to no rpg's or rocket type launchers except a grenade launcher to mount on a gun. not many variations in vehicles either. I am however enjoying this game and will continue playing because it is legit fun even in 2024.
This game is so good in simulating realistic tactics with no HUD. I would definitely recommend this to my friends, brothers and cousins to play this game.
so many things, horrible team ai, repetitive missions, kill animations are eh, and every death i spawn 400 meters away... why? just buy just cause 3/4 they are both much better
Fun game, if you can even get it to work. The game just constantly doesn't launch and requires having to reinstall ubisoft WHICH IS A HORRIBLE PROGRAM.
This game does not have centralized servers like counter strike or valve games do.
it makes server on one user's machine, and other friends connect to it.
Nowhere in the game's description / public website / marketing campaign was it told to us as a disclaimer.
the problem is, the game never goes from Strict NAT to Open NAT, because of which I can never make a server, and I can never play with any of my friends.
The company's support - ubisoft has been unresponsive and unreliable about it.
I have spent close to 50 hours trying to debug this,
but i was never able to fix it, neither was any support provided to me.
me and my friends have spent countless number of hours to try ant get NAT working, all of us are programmers at reputed companies, but the company ubisoft just does not seem to care about our requests.
They cannot provide a single solution to get it working over a PPPoE Public IP reservation Connection, which is the legal consumer-grade internet protocol in india.
This has caused me a lot of grief. after all this time, I have finally given up on the dream of being able to play this with my friends, and this game is pretty useless without it's multiplayer features.
The In-game counter has increased over the limit but i assure you all that time was spent in debugging this NAT issue, i never could actually play this game, and I have developed a newfound hatred for the developer - ubisoft.
It's one of Mountain GOATS at it's peak! Even in 2024 this game is still just incredible. Highly recommended for anyone who is a fan of Splinter Cell series. ∏ ∴ ∏
Just a fun game, playing second time around! It is a great stealth game.
A really good, simplified, easy to learn, open world co-op tactical shooter. Great art design and environment. Needs mod support BADLY.
Really a good game, gigantic map, open-world, lots of weapons and stuff to discover, and playable with 3 more friends, really great :D
With many hours spent on the console version of this game I really enjoy a real world setting that provides a backbone to the immersion of a video game. Elevated by music that is on theme, the title is fun, while at times arcade-like, that other titles just miss in current video games
a great story and fun game mechanics. completed multi times.
I feel like this game is a bit life less with the combat :(
Also some very stupid mission bugs like not getting detected when you already have completed the objective
and the lack of checkpoints is also really frustrating
Pros
-----
Very good graphics
Beautiful nature
Gameplay is fun
Drive cars or fly helicopters
Cons
-----
Stealth mechanics are shit honestly. No way to dump bodies, no ways to hide yourself. Do NOT expect Hitman or Styx here!
Missions can be repetetive. The map is Ubisoft-Style with lots of icons
Overall I would say, it is a fun game for 40 hours, but I wouldn't play any further than the end boss. It gets too repetetive.
It's one of the better shooters out there for single players. I haven't tried co-op yet but it should be just as fun. Got it cheap and certainly worth more than I paid for it. 170 hours and just finished the campaign cause I like to take my time hunting down stuff. I highly recommend it.
best open world military shooter with a focus on single player, that does not require a wifi connection. breakpoint could take the spot if i didnt have to be online to play by myself. always online requirments are game killers.
Great campaign FPS game. The open world concept is cool but the in game actions could be more realistic like ordering to regroup while running, etc
It’s fine. I’ve completed 100% of the Breakpoint content on PS5 so I’m not that interested in spending 200 hours on clearing the map here — the story was enough for me. I can see the appeal of the gameplay but it’s just not as fun solo and gets repetitive fast. Again, it’s fine but don’t expect a non-Ubisoft formula in a Ubisoft game.
This game is unlike any other. I have quite a lot of experience since I have completed the game twice and both DLCs once. I won't lie this game changed my life a little bit it wasn't my first Ghost Recon (Breakpoint Was) but still the atmosphere, the secrets, the story and the gameplay are astounding.
You can go loud and stealth but the game is not as good in stealth as the next installment in the Ghost Recon Series which is Breakpoint still Wildlands does have good stealth too. Now you can go for a complete arcade experience where the difficulty isnt hard and you have full information of enemy clouds on maps and A relaxed game and then you have a balanced difficulty which ranges from regular to advanced this is good for people starting and also is slightly hard and you then have extreme where you have to mark the enemies yourself and they are a lot harder to kill and its easier to die.
Now I'll stop talking about those small details but if your interested in open-world, third-person and shooter games I recommend this game and Ghost Recon Breakpoint.
This game also has pretty good graphics for its age.
Both of the DLCs are good, Fallen Ghosts is good for people who like tactical gameplay and more stealth And Narco Road is good for Car/Aircraft Enthusiasts who like to put some metal on and drive and fly some crazy vehicles while also going loud on crazy shooting missions.
Sorry for going on a bit of a rant but trust me its a Great game.
From Kacper
Game is still awesome in 2024. I've been playing this game since it's release on Xbox and bought here on my VR box to enjoy it even more on a high FPS and it's still an awesome game, you can play it full stealth or just wild'n out.....Just get it and enjoy it for what it has to offer.
The most american game ever made:
- You are stationed in a foreign country
- You are a special agent
- No help just you and the spec ops team
- A female boss who tells you "I don't care how you do it just do it"
- You fighting the cartel
- No emotion towards death and killing
- Every mission where 100 people die you go "Huh i hope we doing the right thing"
This is the first open-world shooter I’ve ever played, and it's an incredible experience. I highly recommend it to any shooter fans. However,
Note : the game has some serious connectivity issues when playing with friends, and a few missions can be buggy. Sometimes, retrying the mission after a while seems to fix it."
