Good game, just some bugs here and their rest ok

Even as an avid fan of sniper games, and I really liked the first one in this series, I couldn't force myself to finish this one. Even on Sniper Elite difficulty, the sniping is quite easy, and it's a fairly rare occasion if you want to play smart. Most of the time you sneak around and take out enemies at close range, and when you finally have the chance to take out enemies at a distance you find yourself waiting forever for the noises you're supposed to use to mask your shots. What really broke me was some stupid bug that caused the character to day (as if from an explosion) whenever I uploaded a specific save which happened to be where I blew up a cannon (about half an hour earlier...). After that, I just couldn't be bothered to restart the level.

This game should have been called Shovel Elite because for a sniping simulator I spent more time killing Nazi's with shovels than I did with a rifle. I lost interest quick. It is sad.

This Sniper Elite is the worst of the bunch.
The AI is broken and some missions as well.
Very few weapons and associated upgrades.
I would recommend the 5th or 4th game instead.

Play an hour as an underequipped close combat assassine to spend a minute shooting at stuff with a sniper rifle. Bugs have not been patched for years...

No matter if stealthy or loud, action packed or realistic: Sniper Elite gives you the options to customize its gameplay to your liking and conquer their open ended playgrounds any way you see fit.
A blast in Singleplayer aswell as in Coop that keeps you coming back again and again.

A surprisingly good game. It scratched the itch I had to play a sniping game. It's incredibly atmospheric and I found myself getting lost in the game while many hours passed in real life. There are a few different approaches to the game and I think that makes it replayable. Being based in Africa makes a nice change from the endless number of WW2 games based in Europe that all look sort of the same. The story is also not bad.

There were a few things I didn't like. There aren't a lot of weapons but I think the DLC fixes that. The handguns are all useless except the Welrod because the others alert enemies so you might as well use a sniper rifle. I started to get a little bored towards the end after figuring out the trick to killing most enemies but it was still ok.

Overall, a very good game and thoroughly engrossing experience.

Good Improvement from previous Sniper elite although there are little improvements that need to be fix (sniper elite 4 already assess this issue). it this game ease my boredom during quarantine.

Great story, good pacing, good weapon selection, physics are good, the DLCs are fun, and the amount of achievements is good for a game like this.

Game is easy but the ai can see you through the walls, kill you instantly, you can get damaged by grenade when hiding behind the wall and best of all they can even kill you when they are dead

My opinion? Worst SE game ever. Even the first game is better

good game fun missions and combat

This game is great to be honest. graphics look good. Gameplay is fun. Story is good. And this game isn't to pricey. The reason i gave this game a 7 its because this game is very buggy. Multiplayer is unplayable because its broken. Enemeys are broken in this game. Veichels are a big probelm. Its a good game but for me its the weakest in the trilogy.

Fun and enjoyable. Comparing to Sniper Elite 4, weapons are less in quantity and there are NO SILENT RIFLES or SILENT AMMO so it's all skill based. The controls are a bit different/primitive/less-refined than 4 but the game-play is still satisfying if you've played the newer ones. Africa makes a good desert/tropical setting for the story.
Verdict : Don't think, just buy it. Especially if it's on sale, then grab the DLC story packs as well, for extra content but the campaign is sufficient enough.

killing the mustache man and his friends is very fun.

As a part of the series I would say that it's worth playing, but on its own there's no reason to play this game over one of its successors (unless you're still running Windows 7).
Regarding presentation: the game looks nice, and despite the implications of the title there was a clear effort to diversify the environments the player is exposed to. That iconic theme notwithstanding, the music is forgettable and leans on exotic flourishes. There is a story, but despite Rebellion's best half-efforts it's hard to care about the morality of war or Brauer in a game that's known for its nut-shot killcams.
Regarding gameplay: Sniper Elite 3 plays like the mutant freak child of two different games. The game's systems were clearly all designed in service to the "shoot and scoot" method of play: the 'stealthy' approach is unbearably slow, enemies are very quick on the uptake, and every part of your arsenal other than the rifle is meant for defensive use. Unfortunately, the majority of the levels in the game don't reflect this, as more than half are linear, most encounters occur in small areas, and the maps aren't dynamic at all--the resulting experience is like Call of Duty with Resident Evil controls.
If you're set on playing this, wait until it goes on sale so you can get all the p2w weapon packs.

great realistic game to play

Bought this after having a lot of fun in Sniper Elite 2. It's a completely different game and, to be honest, I don't like it.

3 should be called Sneaking Elite rather than Sniper Elite. You can't play it like a sniper game, it's stealth above all else. Your first shot using the sniper rifle is usually a free shot but after that, unless you've moved a significant distance (and somehow avoided being seen) any further shots give the enemies miracle sight - they instantly know exactly where you are, can shoot you through walls, round corners, through floors and roofs and they converge on your position as if they're telepathically linked.

It's buggy as well. I've had it CTD without warning on a few occasions and getting into a prone position, something which works 100% of the time instantly in SE2 is frustrating as heck in 3. If there's a slope to the ground under you, you can't cant go prone. If there's a stone or rock, or even a blade of grass, it'll prevent you going prone. You have to mess about going back and forth trying to find a spot it likes then crawl back to where you actually want to be.

I've just gone back to playing SE2 where you can set yourself up in a good position, set a few traps for any incoming enemies you miss and just be a sniper rather than a sneak.

The negative recommendation comes with a caveat. I played Sniper Elite 5, then Sniper Elite 4. The differences between 3 and 4/5 are significant, and going backward in the series led to disappointment in two respects. (1) When moving, I felt like Carl was drunk. He would not move in the direction I was looking, or when he stopped would look to the side. Made it very tough to line up shots. (2) Mouse and key customization was less robust than later versions.

Side note: I also downloaded SE1 and 2. I played SE1 for about ten minutes and found it totally unplayable. I'm not even going to try SE2 after my experiences with SE1 and SE3. Moral of the story: don't work backward in the series, lest you want to be disappointed.

it is fun to play

It turns out it's third person view only, and that just makes it unplayable for me. I like the idea, and the game play seems ok, but that third person view just creates weird angles, removes some of the immersion, and causes difficulty moving efficiently, for me at least.

Definitely one of the weaker Sniper Elite games.
1. The reaction ability of the enemy is wildly absurd. For example, Pont du Fahs. There is a stationary armored car that will instantly target you and shoot on your location, no matter how well hidden you are, how far away you are, and even if you mask your shot with noise. It even fired on me one time, without even turning the turret. As soon as I hit its weekspot, I was immediately shot, even though the turret was facing a different direction.

Side note, the armor all appear to have binoculars and can see from any direction, as well. I played one map, I was 200~ away from a tank, at the rear of it, and it still went to yellow, then red, then turned and started shooting on me. While I was hiding in the shadows. Wtf.


2. For a "sniping" game, a tremendous amount of the game has nothing to do with sniping, and is just sneaking around forts, bunkers, etc. Sure, you could still "snipe" in these situations, but kinda pointless when the bad guys are under 50 feet from you.

3. Controls are clunky. They fixed a lot of it in Sniper Elite 4, but trying to go prone is often a hilarious exercise in aerobics. Crouch, stand up, prone, stand up, crouch, prone...wait no, back to crouch, because you moved an inch.

4. There was one level where you have a "spotter." Rebellion apparently doesn't know what spotters are for. The entire level, the spotter identified a whole ONE bad guy for me. Right at the beginning, he points out one obvious enemy in front, and proceeded to do absolutely nothing from that point on.

5. Sound masking is hit or miss. At one point, I was next to a generator that was making noise, and aircraft flew over head....my shot still was heard from some random enemy on the map. So, the little noise indicator can't be trusted. And sometimes the generators will stop producing noise anyway. They'll still be noisy, it just won't give you the indicator, and won't mask your shots. You have to reload, to get them working again.

It's not a flat out terrible game. Steam doesn't allow scale reviews, but I'd give it a solid 3 or 4 out of 10. Points deducted because of the bad mechanics, and also because it's STILL full price, even though it launched in 2014. In fact, all of their games are still full price. I think one of the games is even more expensive than a recently released one. WHY?

It feels like they gave the voice actor a script and just told him to sound cool. 10/10

this game is good, a lot of downloadable content to enjoy, i recommend buying the Axis/German sniper pack. make sure its the one with the Kar98, its one of the best rifles in game

fun zone out game, played the multiplayer a ton back in high school

Title implies a sniper game, but most of the time the game is encouraging silent play using a silenced pistol. The environments aren't suitable to long shots and when sniping is a possibility, constantly waiting for a cover sound to avoid identification. You have a machine gun that couldn't hit a barn wall, yet the enemy can hone in on you with pinpoint accuracy from a distance you can barely see them.
Just to complete it, I set it to Cadet mode and played it as a run and gun.

I've clocked up thousands of hours on SE4 and SE5 and never got round to playing SE3, so I started to play all the missions. I've done about 30 hours - excellent game - the challenges and great visual settings impressed me. Definitely recommend.

for people that love sniping and being stealthy, numerous ways to beat missions but complete a objective

I wanted a game with basically not story and state funded genocide, just the game

A solider bent over to pick something up and I shot him up his ass, through the stomach and out the head at 185 meters and got to watch it all in slow mo. Don't see that in any other game. Love it.

Game doesn't like you tabbing out though. Which is veryyyyyy annoying.

Its a very good stealth sniping game!

AI enemy are stupid, hardest mode - pretty easy, you can ignore all sniping and stealth mechanics, just another one TPP middle-tier shooter.

Wonderful sniping game. Always fun to take out some Nazi scum. Desert setting this time.

Such a step up from Sniper Elite 2 - actually fun for most of the game. Bette,r more open levels add so so much although there are still a couple issues with the side missions, as sometimes you'll spend ages running round the map looking for something for them, unable to know that the next part of the side mission involves doing the next part of the main mission.

very detailed and follows a story line that is hard at times but not impossible to follow. almost the best of the sniper elite games (almost)

Ok, 4 is better, but this is still a blast.
I don't get people giving a game a thumbs down because it's not as good as a different game.
"It's a step back." Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man. And who cares? It's still GREAT.

Played Co-op the whole eight missions. Some missions are just stupid with no save check points between them. Other missions didn't make any sense and most missions were very very short. The main issue was inconsistency.

Playing this game right after Sniper Elite V2, this seems like a step backward. This game wasn't fun. There was nothing memorable. Not one moment that I could point to and remember this game. The things I do remember is unlocks of basic guns and equipments like this game was made for multiplayer only. Single player story seems like an afterthought.

I don't really have much to tell about this game other than that I hated it. Also, it kept crashing on many many modes. BTW we played on the highest difficulty with no tactical assistance.

Another fun addition to the series, but as I play this one I realize that they are quite repetitive. I don't think I will play another. Still a good game, though.
