Gameplay
Song of the Deep delivers unique gameplay in a tale of love, heartbreak, and triumph. Explore a fantastic non-linear interactive underwater world filled with more than 200 treasures to collect. Equip your submarine with 30 upgrades and 15-plus abilities to access new areas of the sea, and combine those abilities in surprising ways -- like catching a torpedo with your claw arm mechanism. Outwit, outmaneuver and battle creatures along the way, from lantern jellies to giant bosses like The Watcher.
Storyline
Merryn waits all night for her father to return from his fishing voyage. He never does. After a vivid dream showing her father trapped under the sea, Merryn is determined to save him. This unlikely heroine builds a small submarine from spare parts and sets off to rescue him. Along the way, she’ll make friends, discover lost civilizations and ruins, and upgrade her submarine to explore even deeper. The terrain and monsters of the deep are daunting, but Merryn’s courage, intelligence, and love for her father will help her overcome adversity.

This game has a very charming and feel good story. I will say its not the best in terms of gameplay but I would say that I did have fun. There were parts that are kinda boring but it was quickly overturned with another story piece tying the game together very nicely. This game has a special place in my heart.
One of my favorite games that I've ever played. It's beautifully drawn, has fun exploration and combat, excellent music, and has a great story. Most of the negative reviews are from people with thousands of hours in fps games, who's brains are so fried from constant stimulation they can't enjoy a story focused game. Another common complaint is that the controls suck, but that's just because the game takes place underwater. The controls look and feel great, and are consistent, if you have problems with them, its genuinely a skill issue. I played it first on my xbox one when it first came out, and it still holds up, almost nine years later.
Song of the Deep reminds me more of Aquaria than Pronty or Depths of Sanity in that it plays quite slowly and narrated. Like Aquaria, it doesn't manage to keep my interest.
Good game with high production value. Definitely one kids can get into.
Exactly how I remembered this game from well over a decade ago playing it on xbox360, still really enjoy this title.
