Explore the randomly generated open world of planet Xcylin, delve into the ruins left by an alien race, and expand your arsenal and abilities. Exotic Matter offers countless items, weapons and block types to discover and unlock on your adventure to save Earth.
Exotic Matter is a single-player open world voxel Metroidvania adventure, currently being developed for PC. A blend between a sci-fi mystery and a survival/crafting experience, Exotic Matter takes you on a compelling adventure through fully simulated planet with roguelike underground facilities. The game's sophisticated "dungeon" generation system ensures that no two playthroughs or dungeons are ever the same.
Exotic Matter also features a fully moddable engine, allowing you to explore countless other worlds created by the community or put on your creative hat and make your own sci-fi adventure!
Features
- a completely simulated planet open for total exploration
- fully destructible and reconstructible terrain
- build your own shelters/bases with sophisticated in-game technology. Connect lights and doors with switches, pressure sensitive blocks and even in-game computer systems
- mine resources deep below the surface and find hidden treasures and secret underground complexes
- a vast amount of different block types, each with different attributes and abilities
- tens of ancient items and technologies left behind by an alien civilization
- a crafting system combining personal crafting and large-scale crafting via replicator technology, for even more complex items
- tens of roguelike facilities for you to explore - some large and important, some small and secret - all created by a sophisticated dungeon generation system
- a "wide linear", deep sci-fi narrative driven by your own exploration and sense of adventure
- intelligently interacting and overlapping procedural generation systems - from the alien landscape to secret facilities - ensuring no two adventures ever play the same
- a fully moddable engine allowing you to create your own entirely custom worlds. Built-in modding support means that almost every aspect of the game is laid open to your creativity (from items and block types to planet composition and terrain, to biomes, and more)!
Please note that although these features are all planned and most of them are fully implemented, they are all subject to change due to the fact that this is an Early Access game. We are working on a new roadmap to prepare Exotic Matter for full launch - we'd love to hear your feedback on the Exotic Matter Discord

WARNING: ABANDONWARE
This charmingly dead game has a great tutorial experience and sends you off with no directive to find beacons which may or may not decide to add the intended waypoints to other beacons. Don't bother focusing on gear progression other than your tree potato launcher as you can't advance without miraculously clearing the fetch quest main storyline with broken typewriter speed dialogue that you must be stationary to watch.
Great potential for a sci-fi styled minecraft reskin that you wouldn't even think of minecraft while playing at first but unfortunately the last update was in 2018. I would judge the game to be worth 3-5$ in its current state.
Last update was over 1 year ago. The game was't really that enjoyable in it's current state, but there are many games I have that I just let sit to be reevaluated when updates come in. Since it's been over a year since this game got anything (It's october 2019 and the last update was Sept 2018) I'm going to say that it looks like this is all you get, and that is not worth it.
Exotic Matter is an open world sandbox game with a lot of potential.
The game has a very intricate lighting engine and an interesting juxtaposition of alien landscapes and futuristic interior. The surrounding environment, despite being procedural is quite beautiful with an extensive sky box and multiple different biomes.
At the time of writing it’s currently quite a Zen experience, there aren’t that many threats besides the environment that will threaten your life. Though when you do die, you keep all mission critical equipment, but lose some of the resources that you were carrying on your person. The dev has mentioned on the forum that they plan on adding more monsters and combat capabilities later to spice things up. The GUI is near seamless, though I found increasing the default text speed to be helpful (open the Settings sub-menu from pressing
Side note, if you’re running a middle to low end laptop (like mine), be sure to back up your saves.

This aint worth no twenty bucks as it is right now.
Devs should chill the fuck out with pricing until they actually have a game thats even worth selling.
This game is fun and has huge potential.
I enjoy how it is procedurally generated, and it's up to you how to decide to get to each waypoint, or explore an area.
Should I build stairs? Blast my way through? Make a bridge? Just jump? I enjoy finding the different locations and more bits of the story.
It has a bright future if the Dev's keep on updating and adding new content.
Also, props to the Dev's for writing their own new engine for the game!
Early access - I know, but I see no point in this. It's kind of Minecraft remake - Minecraft with tech mods. Even - Minecraft with 50+ mods, texturepacks and shaders will look better (sorry, I wrote this). I don't say it's bad game, there are bugs, like - in the beginning I died while was building way up, by placing blocks under me, died on the lift platform on the top... even world loads same way as minecraft - by chunks. I think you must find your idea of game, not trying to go that way by coping ideas of Minecraft.
Really interesting game, has an interesting learning curve that wasn't to difficult to figure out, Was great fun.
I really do recommened this game to anyone who enjoys the block building type of game. Exotic Matter takes the base of these games and really does improve upon it.
Now i am an adult who has a rather short attention span so i give you the feedback of a 7 year old that loves Minecraft.
"you should add swimming effects and i really like this game"
Simple and to the point, if a 7 year old has enjoyed it after a thousand or so hours in minecraft then you cant go wrong expanding your library with a game that expands this genre of Gaming.
I don't usually take the time to write about first impressions but I thought I would give this one a go. So first off I would say that
Exotic matter is much more beautiful than Minecraft was in Alpha. For early alpha, it plays well, and the framerate seems
to stay pretty consistent. I started to work out a story developing right away -You are going to have to do a little reading to advance
and get your bearings. In fact, I would plan to be in the starting area for the first 45 minutes or so. I wanted to get on with it and get outside and explore, but don't do that, you will have a bad time.
The world that generated for me was difficult to navigate and treacherous and I think nearly impossible to build on and I don't know if that was by intention or if the procedural generation needs to be fleshed out some. I either didn't find a flashlight or one is not yet provided but later found light blocks and those did the trick well enough. I would say that this game isn't nearly as intuitive as Minecraft was and I think that is intentional. This game is a little more grown up and requires for you to pay some attention and I don't mind that at all.
I have to admit that when I started I thought to myself "Okay another one of these" but the more I played, the more I wanted to explore and the more I wanted of the story. I have questions that need answering. A few hours in and I know I have barely scratched it and yet this is in Alpha. I have to say that I am extremely excited to see how this develops in the future; and did I mention its beautiful?
